Did you install from gnucash-5.5.setup.exe or gnucash-5.5-1.setup.exe? If the
former, reinstall from the latter from https://www.gnucash.org
in the downloads pane on the top right or from
https://github.com/gnucash/gnucash/releases.

[GNC] Error message on opening GnuCash

2024-03-01 Thread Graham & Irene Taggart via gnucash-user
I have recently upgraded GnuCash to Version: 5.5 Build ID: 5.5+(2023-12-16).
However, every time I open the program I now get the following error
message.

The program appears to work OK after pressing OK. I have tried reinstalling
version 5.5 and also copying the libxmlsec1.dll file from an old backup I
have but that hasn't worked. What can I do to correct the error message?

Graham

Thank you very much. The 5.1 release worked perfectly.
It seems that few users implemented this "book currency" feature. Question: Is
it possible for me to reverse it, so that in the event future releases finally
disable this feature, users like me can still apply the updates without
problems?

The book-currency feature was created 6 years ago as part of an ambitious
project that never got finished. It added several hundred unused lines to the
options code so I removed it as part of rewriting that options code in C++. I
thought that it wouldn't have gotten set in any books.

I've restored the feature to 5.1 so you and anyone else with the feature set

Dunno where you got gnc-path-check, but it wasn't from us. We have a
gnc-fq-check, gnc-fq-dump, gnc-fq-helper, and gnc-fq-update. No gnc-path-check.

What same answer does gnc-fq-dump give, that the symbol isn't found? What are
the two symbols? Have you tried price source tiaacref?

[GNC] error message with finance::quote gnc-path-check + problems with retrieving quotes for 2 symbols.

2020-06-22 Thread uhopfer@gmail
I had to reinstall strawberry perl and finance::quote (1.49) and now can
download again all my quotes except for 2 symbols using alpha vantage,
vanguard, or yahoo_json.

I discovered that gnc-path-check comes back  with a programming error
message (below):

perl gnc-path-check -v 2>temp.txt

Can't use global $_ in "my" at gnc-path-check line 60, near "my $_ "
Execution of gnc-path-check aborted due to compilation errors.

That error needs  to be fixed, but I do not know any perl.

I wondered whether the error could be related to my  new problem of
retrieving 2 of 3 TIAA-CREF symbols with yahoo_json that I used to be
able to retrieve automatically, but now can only retrieve manually. In
other words, yahoo still has information on the symbols, but f::q does
not retrieve it. The automatic retrieval works for 1, but not the other
2 sumbols. gnc-fq-dump gives the same anwer.

I am grateful for any hint.

Best regards,

Ulrich

Reading the error, I'd say you have a scheduled transaction named "CHECKING
STATEMENT" that refers to a no-longer-valid account ID.

Did you by chance delete your checking account at some point and then create a

Tom,

Be sure to direct your messages to the Gnucash user list. Usually reply
all works, but sometimes you need to manually add the address from the
footer of the message.

I am not sure how to help you myself, but others will be able to help after
they know which version of Gnucash you upgraded from, ie the last version
that actually worked.

Re: [GNC] ERROR MESSAGE - NO SUITABLE BACKEND FOUND

2019-01-07 Thread David Carlson
That normally means that your data is in a database format but GnuCash does
not have the correct tools to open it. This can happen after an update.

Alas, I do not use a database format but I do know that there are
differences depending on which operating system you are using. Let us know
which OS you are using.

[GNC] ERROR MESSAGE - NO SUITABLE BACKEND FOUND

2019-01-07 Thread Tom Murphy
After updating to version 3.4 my file won't open and I get an error message
"no suitable backed was found for my account"

I don't know what this means and help is non-existent.

Does anyone know what this means?

[GNC] error message when opening preferences

2018-06-24 Thread Karin Lagesen

Hi!

I am starting over with gnucash, and thought I'd do a clean re-install.
Note, I am on windows, and have removed all the gnucash files I could
find before installing 3.1.

However, now I am getting an annoying error message every time I try to
look at the preferences, as well as when I do "save as":

Gnucash.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
\Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

I have the options Cancel, Try Again and Continue. Try Again just pops
up the message again, so do the other two too. However, if I click
enough times on Cancel or Continue, the message goes away.

Note, when I change something in Preferences, that change stays when I
quit and restart.

This is quite annoying, and if anybody could shed some light on what has
happened and how to get rid of said message, I'd be very happy.

Re: [GNC] Error Message on trying to Open a gnucash file "There was an error parsing the file...."

2018-05-30 Thread DaveC49
Francis,

If you look in the folder which contains your gnucash file there should be a
set of backup files. Gnucash creates a backup file. I am assuming you are
using the XML format files and not a database. The file will have a name of
the form
.gnucash
and the backups will have the form
.gnucash..gnucash .
There will also be logfiles of the form
.gnucash..log .
is a number with the format mmddhhmmss eg
20180529153426.

You should be able to open any of these files using the File->Open menu item
provided the GnuCash program is opening. If it is not, if you start gnucash
from a shell opened at the directory which contains your gnucash data files
and then enter at the prompt
gnucash ./.gnucash..gnucash
you should be able to start GnuCash with the specified file substituting as
appropriate for and

You could look at opening the most recent backup to see if that opens and if
it doesn't move back through the backups until you find one that opens
successfully. You may then have to examine the log files to see whether you
recorded any transactions after the last backup file you can open was
created and reenter them. You can also use the log files to recover any lost
data as described in the guide:

see https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v3/C/gnucash-guide/basics-backup1.html for
more information.

If you are using a database, someone else who uses the database backends may
be able to help.
