Re: [GNC] Gnu cash Version 5.5 error message

2023-12-29 Thread uhopfer@gmail
I had the same problem as Paras Desai. I checked the library and it
contains a file libxmlsec1.dll, but not the required libxmlsec.dll one.
I renamed the first file name to the required one (removing the "1") and
the error message disappeared.

Forgive the possibly silly question, but are you sure that the installation
completed successfully? Is that referenced library file in the folder?

Paras,

Sorry, I misinterpreted

I find a message about lock file stating gnu cash instance is already running

That's normal after a crash, which prevents GnuCash removing the lock file. You can
safely click "Open Anyway" in that case.

If you get the entry point error again could you take a screenshot? I can't find any
references to "xmllOFTPClose" in any of our dependencies nor does Google find
it.

Re: [GNC] Gnu cash Version 5.5 error message

2023-12-25 Thread Paul Kroitor
Not sure how much of a show-stopper this actually is, but 5.5 pops up an
"Entry Point Not Found" error upon startup here too. I note this error was
reported in prior message (below) and a screenshot was requested (see
attachment).

The exact message is: The procedure entry point xmllOFTPClose could not be
located in the dynamic link library C:\Program files
(x86)\gnucash\bin\libxmlsec1.dll.

Clicking OK clears the warning and Gnucash starts (otherwise) normally.
However, I have not yet tested any XML features beyond the basic file open
that occurs upon startup.

I too encountered the "cannot install due to a running instance" issue upon
upgrading (which was unexpected, as I upgraded to 5.4.1 weeks ago) but
cleared it by terminating it in the task manager, then aborting and
restarting the install (which then completed as expected). At some point in
this the "cannot obtain lock" dialog also popped up, but I thought it was a
function of the terminated process, so I simply hit ignore.

Platform is Win 11, fully updated. 5.4.1 was working happily before the
update.

I'm happy to do tests / uninstalls / reinstalls here if useful.

Paul

PS: The above dll name is typed out, not copy/pasted. Could there be a
confusion between one of the lower case Ls and an upper case I? It's always
been a huge annoyance to me that Windows rarely allows error messages in
dialogs to be copied for searches etc.

It seems that this issue is bit adamant.

After uninstalling and reinstalling, the message disappeared as i reported.

But when i set to enter transactions this evening, the message again
reappeared.

So I restarted computer and open gnucash, it opened without error message. I
tried to close gnu cash and reopen few times the error message appeared
randomly.

Worse, i decided to update gnu cash on another laptop used by my wife. It
failed to install stating that it is unable to close service. I was forced
to abort the installation, re-start the laptop and then i only I could
install the update.

So there seems some problem with New Version or the legacy issue of back
ground service running interfering the successful update.

Re: [GNC] Gnu cash Version 5.5 error message

2023-12-19 Thread John Ralls
Paras,

The failure to install is probably down to the 5.4 problem of leaving the
gnucash process running. The xmlIOFTPClose entry point problem is strange. It's
optionally provided by libxml2 but MSYS-mingw doesn't build it in (neither does
the macOS build). It's (also optionally) consumed by libxmlsec1, but again
MSYS-mingw doesn't build with that option.

Re: [GNC] Gnu cash Version 5.5 error message

2023-12-19 Thread Paras Desai
Hello John

I uninstalled the GNU cash completely after saving my account files.

And then downloaded exe file again from sourceforge and reinstalled again.

After reinstall, the problem and error message i reported earlier disappeared.

I think some thing might have gone wrong during my earlier installation, though
GNU cash showed successful installation.

With my best regards and against thanks for your kind support as always

Paras,

Sorry, I misinterpreted

I find a message about lock file stating gnu cash instance is already running

That's normal after a crash, which prevents GnuCash removing the lock file. You
can safely click "Open Anyway" in that case.

If you get the entry point error again could you take a screenshot? I can't
find any references to "xmllOFTPClose" in any of our dependencies nor does
Google find it.

John Ralls

Try killing the gnucash instance in Task Manager and restarting GnuCash 5.5. I
hope that's a leftover from 5.4.

Yes the installation completed successfully.

That message was there .

Little Google search points to the possibility of a corrupted XML file in
windows.

Thanks.

Forgive the possibly silly question, but are you sure that the installation
completed successfully? Is that referenced library file in the folder?

In trying to track down a Total (Period) issue, I used Edit -> Preferences ->
Accounting Period to change the Start Date and End Date fields to Absolute
dates.
After doing Close of that dialog,
there appeared to be no change
in the values in the Total (period) column.
I expected a change, but maybe it is working as designed.

However, after closing and reopening GnuCash, there then were changes in the
values.
