I have suspected that my problem may be my hardware or OS, to my
embarrassment. Thanks to all for trying.

Re: [GNC] I can't see above the current widow

2019-04-29 Thread Tony Vanson
Hi Jonathan,
For the record, I'm using Gnucash V 3.5+(2019-03-30) and Windows 10
V10.0.17134 Build 17134.
I have attempted to duplicate your problem, with no result.
I can scroll fully up and down with the scroll wheel on the scroll bar, and
also when placed inside the body of all the registers.
Dragging the scroll bar up and down with the mouse also works for me as do
the arrow keys, both on the keyboard and the number pad. with the NumLock
off.
I may be way off base, but suspect more of an OS or hardware problem then
something to do with Gnucash.
Cheers

Re: [GNC] I can't see above the current widow

2019-04-29 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Not sure what you mean by ‘very full’ as there is no such thing as far as I am
aware. But if the account has only a handful of transactions in it, then
certainly, the scroll bar won’t be very long/tall.

If the bug already has been filed, then when it is fixed, you’ll see it listed
in the release notes here on the list. (also posted to the website I believe)

If the bug has not been filed, then you’d need to file one or it will likely
never get fixed.

Goto bugzilla.gnucash.org, sign up for an account, and file the bug so the devs
know there is a potential problem.

Adrien

It happens whether an account is very full or nearly empty.

If there is a bug when using Windows 10 and Gnucash 3.5, will I be told
whenit is fixed?

Re: [GNC] I can't see above the current widow

2019-04-25 Thread Stan Brown
Every time I see this topic, I'm reminded of the old Gerard Hoffnung
routine. He is reading (supposedly) letters from Tyrolean landlords who
responded to his holiday inquiries, and one of then wrote:

"There is a French widow in every bedroom ... affording delightful
prospects!"

(For the full effect, you have to hear it in his magnificent declamatory
voice. It's probably on Youtube, because it's part of his famous
"Bricklayer" speech to the Oxford Union.)

Re: [GNC] I can't see above the current widow

2019-04-25 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Is that particular account fairly new/empty? That is, the size of the scrollbar
indicates there aren’t many transactions in it. (the bar will size according to
how ‘long the page’ is just like in a web browser or word processor, the
shorter the bar, the longer the page) If there are years of transactions there,
something is wrong.

There was a bug in an early 3.x version where the scroll bar sat at the bottom
and didn’t move, but the content did. I think I also couldn’t scroll by trying
to drag the bar itself. (my mouse wheel and trackpad though allowed me to view
content ‘above the fold’ and presumably arrow keys would have as well, but I
didn’t use them then.) That however has been fixed, at least I can confirm, on
Mac and Linux. Perhaps it still needs addressing on Windows unless someone else
here can confirm it works properly on that OS.

But if you can’t actually scroll to the earlier content, or advance to it with
the up arrow, I’d say you found a bug.

Regards,
Adrien

Re: [GNC] I can't see above the current widow

2019-04-25 Thread Greg Feneis
Also, does the unwillingness to scroll happen only on the account register
shown, or does it happen only on some other account registers, or all
account registers?

I just opened my GnuCash, opened a register, put the cursor in the
description field of a transaction, and then pressed the up arrow. The
cursor moved to the next transaction above and selected the text of that
description field. The background of the selected transaction changed to
yellow from green. When I pressed the up arrow repeatedly, the cursor
eventually moved to the uppermost transaction and then the list of
transactions began to scroll every time I pressed the up arrow key. If you
try this, do you get the same behavior?

Kind regards,

Greg Feneis

Are you viewing a specific account register or the General Journal?

If the Journal, can you see earlier transactions when viewing a specific

Including the list in this reply as you sent it only to me. You have
to use Reply All or similar on this list.

Version 2.6.21 was the suggested minimum version to upgrade to. 3 is
much less than 21.

2019-04-23 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Are you viewing a particular account register, or the General Journal? (the
Journal has a 30 day window by default, which you can change)

If the journal, then what can you see when you view an individual account
register? everything? only one ‘page'?

Also, version 2.6.3 is ancient. (released 3/3/14 - 5 years ago) There have been
many, many, many bug fixes since then. (probably 100s) Please install 3.5
(current version), but if you’re iffy about the 3.x series, then please install
at least 2.6.21 and get back to us if this resolved the issue.

Adrien

help.

It seems what I was trying to say was that the scrollbar will not move to a
date earlier than the top of the window. That's what I meant by 'moving up'.

2019-04-22 Thread David Carlson
Adrian,
I confess that I do not have any instance of GnuCash in the 3.x series
running but my general experience with GTK3 applications, especially in
Linux and Android, is that the arrow and page up/down keys work far better
than the scroll bar. They do not 'jump' to some place an unknown number of
screens away like the scroll bar does in long lists.

Is it possible that the OP has set up a filter to restrict the display of the
account to a date range?

Or that he is looking at the General Journal (which is, by default, restricted
to a view of the last month’s transactions?

Please upgrade to at least gnucash 2.6.21 first. There have been a ton bug
fixes since 2.6.3 which may fix your issue.

If that doesn't fix it we can try to dig deeper.

What do you mean by "cannot go above the top line of a window?” Go above it
how? What are you expecting to see? What are you referring to as the ’top line’?

If you use a description in one account register, it is *not* remembered for
auto-fill in a different account register. That is a per-account thing.

So if you enter a transaction with a description ‘Wal-Mart’ in your Cash
account, then later open your credit card account and start another transaction
with description ‘Wal-Mart’, GnuCash will *not* autofill the info from what you
entered in the Cash account.
