Seperate Master Key and signing/encrypting subkeys method

2012-12-04 Thread Allen Schultz
GnuPG-Users:

I was wondering where that article was about seperating the master key
from daily subkeys (both signing and encrypting). I can't seem to find
it. Are there other articles on the similar methodologies that are still
secure. And is it still recommended that I sign another's keys with the
master signing key?

Thanks in advance.

Advanced Sub-key Management Link

GnuPG-Users:

One of you previously gave me a link last year for advanced sub-key
management where I was using a master key to create limited yearly
expired sub-keys, just in case they were compromised. I cant seem to
find it on Google searches. I have tried any combination of the following:

gpg gnupg subkey advanced management

..to no avail.

If someone on here still has the link, can you please send me the link
again?

Thanks in advance,

Ok. Got it back to what I want it to do. I don't know what agent
demanded the attention of my passphrase, but it's not in the default GPG
package I can see.

Here is what I did, regardless of what other GPG enabled products I have
installed.

1. Uninstall GPG4Win.
2. Download/Installed GnuPG 1.4.10b compiled for Microsoft Windows from
gnupg.org.
3. Update PATH to find new GPG install directory.
4. Now restart any program you have requiring GPG features. This could
be done before the uninstall.

I'm back to the normal agents that need the passphrase for the programs
required.

Nothing else, nor is WinPT installed from that GPG4Win package. I still
do have GPGShell (the german version) still installed on my computer.

Key Transition Letter 2009-05-21

2009-05-21 Thread Allen Schultz
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256,SHA1

For the reason of SHA1 issues in the news, I've recently set up
a new OpenPGP key, and
will be transitioning away from my old one.

The old key will continue to be valid for some time, but i
prefer all future

correspondence to come to the new one.  I would also like this
new key to be re-

integrated into the web of trust.  This message is signed by
both keys to certify the

transition.

the old key was:

pub   1024D/EE79C636 2009-04-24
     Key fingerprint = 0DC0 D8F6 A3A7 C107 59C4  1512 579A F712

uid                  Allen Schultz allen.schu...@gmail.com
uid                  [jpeg image of size 6128]
sub   2048g/762B1E36 2009-04-24

And the new key is:

pub   3072R/DAD4736B 2009-05-20
     Key fingerprint = 16AD EFE1 D68F C8A8 B086  68CD 1A35 85C7

sub   2048R/5687B83E 2009-05-20 [expires: 2010-05-20]

To fetch my new key from a public key server, you can simply do:

 gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-key DAD4736B

If you already know my old key, you can now verify that the new
key is
signed by the old one:

 gpg --check-sigs DAD4736B

If you don't already know my old key, or you just want to be
double
extra paranoid, you can check the fingerprint against the one
above:

 gpg --fingerprint DAD4736B

If you are satisfied that you've got the right key, and the UIDs
match
what you expect, I'd appreciate it if you would sign my key:

 gpg --sign-key DAD4736B

Lastly, if you could upload these signatures, i would appreciate
it.
You can either send me an e-mail with the new signatures (if you
have
a functional MTA on your system):

gpg --armor --export DAD4736B | mail -s 'OpenPGP Signatures'
allen.schu...@gmail.com

Or you can just upload the signatures to a public keyserver
directly:

 gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --send-key DAD4736B

Please let me know if there is any trouble, and sorry for the
inconvenience.

Regards,

As far as signing or verifying through email. The subject has
already been discussed. Again, it's your choice. I may sign at a

questions gpg asks. It does not validate the rest of my public

I did a ls -al and found backup to have 744 access. I set it to 644
access and got the following.

gpg: WARNING: unsafe permissions on homedir `backup1'

Apparently I dont have the permissions right on the directory. Now with
644 I cannot access the directory. For the ring files in the directory
and the directory itself, what is gpg looking for in permissions? Should
I ask this in my LUG?

Troubleshooting signatures

2009-04-25 Thread allen . schultz

Ok. I'm getting a wierd signature verification message in two programs and I
have a few questions. First the situation.

Inline signatures received from more than one person. Recently checked Godwin Stewart's
signature (0xD769AF76) first with FireGPG. It is giving me a flat out Wrong
signature. When I copy to clipboard and tried with WinPT (Using Windows 7), it gave
me the following status below.

Signature is good. Warning: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner.

First. Does the trust warning screw up FireGPG's signature validity or am I
missing something else? Second, is this the normal reaction from GnuPG v1.4.9?

Any help in understanding this would be helpful.

There is nothing on FireGPG Forums stating the same problem, so I'm
assuming at the moment, it's just my issue. There is no #firegpg on
IRC anywhere and #gpg has told me to go to the forumns already on
this. I have sent messages through FireGPG/Google back to myself and
they come through just fine. I have copied/pasted to GPG from others

Does anyone have any suggestions? Yes. I'd like to stay with Firefox/Google.
