The Panaji Bench of the Bombay High Court was very right in taking a serious
note of alleged misconduct on the part of the Additional Advocate General.
Anyone who even tries to slow down the speedy dispensation of justice should
not be spared.

Rumours that the Advocate General himself has orchestrated and masterminded
the whole charade against his Additional can be dismissed for lack of hard
evidence. However, the Advocate General himself should take responsibility
for any thing that goes wrong within his department.

Having to defend insane acts of the Government, the Advocate General's task
could be very hectic. The current incumbent, Atmaram, is very skilful.
Though he was appointed during the Sardinha regime, he has managed to
stay on despite changes of Governments. That is no mean skill.

That the Chief Minister had assured the Goa Legislative Assembly that Mr
Vilas Thali's appointment as Additional Advocate General was purely a
temporary affair is a different question. When the Chief Minister says
temporary one should presume it is permanent and vice -versa.

With the other organs of Government virtually unwilling to provide just
solutions, the judiciary is the only hope to ensure that justice and
justice alone prevails.

The lawyer's profession is a noble one. We should be ready to oppose and
fight illegal and unjust judgements. We should never give up striving for
justice and the Supreme Court should always be the ultimate resort to
justice.

There is an erroneous presumption that a lawyer has to sacrifice his
individuality and cannot speak out as candidly and vociferously as any other
citizen. One has to be ready to speak out and if any judge errs there should
be no hesitation in putting the Judge right.

Morals and ethics cannot be picked up from books. Neither can a senior
advocate transplant these virtues onto his juniors. On the contrary, if
you land up with the wrong Coach you may learn a dirty trick or two.

In Italy the legal system is skewed. When the Socialists were governing, they got decisions in their favour and now Berlusconi, who has over a dozen cases against him is using his power as PM to get the court to rule in his favour. What a traversty. In India decisions are postponed sine die and as they say "Justice dekayed is justice denied". India needs a revolution and its legal system must be reviewed and strengthened. This is what happens when the judiciary and the legislature are intertwined and interfered with instead of being detached - one from the other.

The lawyer's profession is a noble one. We should be ready to oppose and
fight illegal and unjust judgements. We should never give up striving for
justice and the Supreme Court should always be the ultimate resort to
justice

Beautiful words in a not so beautiful world.
