I have been reading every mail but really did not get time to respond. I have seen that some dirty tricks are also played here such as name calling again and again which is like two dogs tearing a chunk of meat into pieces. ..perhaps, they have a priest in their family etc. Yes, I did go too far where most others dare not. Yes, like my most posts, that particular subject post/s had a message too. All you had to do was to trust me on this. I am a Christian, and very proud to be one. I have been associated with the church for about 25 years. From the age of 7 to 21, if I take the average, my monthly average would come to 40 masses (that's include daily mass, funeral mass etc) Yes, I was a dedicated Catechist too for 5 years. Yes, I have been associated with all the church activities/committees/organisations I have been there and saw it all (don't necessarily rely on 'hearsay'). I have seen how parish priests and his assistants(Curate) never see eye to eye each other or seen them arguing and shouting, this is just one fact of the many which is pretty comparable to that of the relationship between the deceased priest and his assistant before Macazana Church. No, I have nothing personal against the priest. And it's true, I don't even know him. This was not the first time I write about it, infact, when I first join Goanet about 3/4 years ago (WITH SAME ID), a similar post was posted which was one of my first 2 or 3 posts on the Goanet. Then I remembers writing again when there was a discussion about 'Ribandar Molestation Case' I wrote on other leaders too like MLAs/MPs/Ministers etc latest being on MP about the 'Sting Operation'. Ok, to cut it short, here are some questions to you: Do you believe and strongly believe that there is no priest in Goa who.. Is involved in sexual abuse of children (below 18)? Has affair with young girls or women ? (including Parra ?) Is involved in sexual relationship with other men or women ? Is involved in money lending ? Is involved in stealing (including church antiques)? If ans is 'yes' to any one abv then can you please stand up now ? If 'No' to any of above, can you please raise your hand now ? 400 people were eagerly waiting for my regular updates. We knew the priest was murdered We knew that the suspects nabbed by the police. We knew that the two suspects admitted killing of the priest. So, what else we all wanted to know then? Motive, yes the motive behind this murder and I was not the only one but there are at least 400 others (which I can confirm) on the net plus other people in general. So what is the motive ? Are we ever going to know it ? It looks like the church, Police etc are hiding some thing, why ? and for how long ? What ever may be the truth, it must come out so that.. -It serve as an eye opener to all. -Lessons will be learnt by the other such people (if there are any more) so as to stop their bad practices/habits etc -Public/parent will now become extra cautious towards their children etc If the truth does not come out now, that means, such people feel they are protected by the authorities for being religious leaders. They will continue what they have been doing... others will copy them too..and who are the losers ? We. Ok, how will you take this.. When you find out your only son who is 27 now does not want to marry simply because he does not fancy any opposite sex because he has been abused by a priest in his teens ? Who will carry on with your family name now ? How you feel about it? Abv is just an example, there could be so many other serious misdeeds that will continue to go on if the truth is not come out now. Remember, 'prevention is better than cure' Ok, if truth cannot not come out now (for various reasons) what guarantee is there that the church will scan it members to detect and avoid such future occurrences ? Some of you even suggested to leave this to police to sort out. Why only this type of cases ? Why give different treatment, when we all come other same law ? How come we discuss the other things like 'Appalling Road Situation in Goa', 'Goa Going Gone' 'Goa has Aid/HIV problems' etc why no one said to leave this to our elected politicians ? Certain questions still remained un-answered like: 1. Why they had to stab the priest 27 times and that too after he already dead ? 2. Why the body was Covered with two bedsheets one
[Goanet] Indian ‘nation’ of commerce
--- * G * O * A * N * E * T *** C * L * A * S * S * I * F * I * E * D * S * --- USDA certified Goa Sausages and other Goan foods can now be delivered to virtually any part of the world. http://www.goanfoods.com --- Indian 'nation' of commerce By DAVID G. MAILLU The Indian is one of the British colonial baggage offloaded in the Kenyan colony, imported from India to work on the construction of the railway line. The line was not built for the benefit of the natives. It was built with sheer selfish interest to lay down the foundation for colonialism and promotion of the British supreme and economic expansionism. At that time, no British mind could have dared imagine that one day the railway line would be lost only to benefit the natives. But one could as well argue that by the time the British crown had lost to the natives, the British had already recovered the expense of building that line and accrued immense economic benefits from it. No British would have imagined that its human cargo from India would one day find home and citizenry in Kenya. At whose expense? Of course, the colonial predatory culture would have dismissed and forgotten about the damage, as Africans would put it bluntly, the way one forgets what comes out of one's own bowels. Or shall one say that by man-made catastrophe Kenyans acquired a new tribe called Indians? The Indian nation, imposed on Kenyans by the British colonial kleptomania, brought three distinct communities that few Kenyans are aware of. The Hindu, the Goan, and the rest. Initially, these three groups have lived with practical dislike for one another. The Goans, coming from the Christian colony, were actually the first ones to be sympathetic with the natives, perhaps, because they found comrades sharing the same religion. They expressed their solidarity even through marriage at a time the other two groups protected their women the way lions protect their young ones from predators. Hindu religion gave the other group opportunity to form cultural cocoons to protect their lot. Up to this day, the three would rather be perceived as the Kenyan Indian clans who, once in a while, might see reason why they should not be counted as one community. We snatched freedom from the British, first president of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, used to describe how Kenyans retrieved what had been stolen from them. The thieves had been a people who described Africans as savages, and who so cleverly baptized their own savagery as a move to civilize a primitive community. During that snatching, the British ran away and left behind their colonial liability, hence the Indian baggage for Kenyans to decide how to rid themselves of it. But by then Kenyans had discovered that, after all, Indians were human beings and victims of historical human calamities. Idi Amin in Uganda expelled his baggage to follow the master in UK. Wise people learn a lot from catastrophes, and some catastrophes eventually establish themselves as having been blessings in disguise. That explains the Kenyan Indian paradox. Perhaps one might drive the subject home by asking, What would have been the fate of Kenya today if the British people had not imported Indians to Kenya from their colony in India? Certainly, Kenya would be a different nation economically. While the British colony existed, the Indian was accorded second class human value in Kenya, and the native was accorded the third class. In other words, during colonial days Indians were bosses to natives. The position of the Indian during that time had given him the foundation to build an economic power base. By the time the British left Kenya, the Indian had acquired big muscles to continue being number-one in the new Kenya, hence replacing the vacated throne of the British, ready to negotiate terms with the upcoming African who was now starting his economic journey from the first step. The collapse of British colonial power did not actually affect the Indian appreciably. If anything, it opened up new and exciting economic opportunities. While the African was trying to set up commercial banks to help his business ventures, the Indian had his banks in place long ago and in operation and now already to fund him for higher economic frontiers. The African new business challenger and competitor was the long experienced Indian entrepreneur. How did the African view his competitor? What new tricks had the Indian behind the sleeves? There is a saying that if someone gives you a lemon, instead of throwing away the lemon, try to make lemonade out of it. That was what the African learnt from the British lemon given to him. He took the opportunity of learning the art and tricks of business from the Indian. Indirectly, out of coincident, the

In the light of what he says, it is obvious that the NRI team's trip gained nothing valuable. He has set the ball rolling and hope there will be answers from official quarters such as the Overseas Ministry. Now the main question is: Should NRGs address their queries directly to Faleiro or go through the NRI Goa FC? Maybe some will find it best to send to both. With Faleiro in a full-time job, and with the NRI Goa FC being run by volunteers, I think it would be wise to depend on Faleiro to deliver the answers. In Kenya, this is a vexed question that often stirs emotions rather than engineer reasoned debate. On the one hand are those who associate Indians with racist corruption and exploitation that go with their commercial engagements. On the other hand are those who argue that Indian commercial acumen and business enterprise is everything that drives Kenya's economic success. Without Indians, this literature argues, Kenya would not be the economic miracle it turned out to be. ... ... Because of this residential pattern, even Europeans went to the Bazaar to access important services including medical ones. Dr. Rosendo Ayres Ribeiro, a Goan, was the first private medical practitioner in Nairobi. He arrived in Nairobi in 1900 and lived in the Bazaar with his assistant Mr. C. Pinto and only left after the plague outbreak of 1902 to stay at the station. He visited the sick among all communities. He diagnosed and reported the 1902 bubonic plague among two of his Somali patients. I would have liked to visit Kerala, immediately, but the election process in that state has made me change my mind, he added. Due to low literacy and other factors, such persons need the services of intermediaries and they are harassed and fleeced and often they are also victims of criminal offences, Mr Faleiro observed, adding that under these circumstances, it becomes necessary to establish an office of the protector of emigrants in Goa itself. Mr Faleiro said that he would follow the possibility of conferring voting rights on the non-resident Indians from Goa, living around the world. There is a bill pending in the Parliament to amend the Representation of Peoples Act so that such rights may be conferred on NRIs, he said, pointing out that the bill however, is not yet scheduled for discussion in the Parliament. I will meet the Union Minister for Law, Mr Hansraj Bharadwaj during my proposed visit to Delhi, scheduled during April-end, for discussing this issue, Mr Faleiro said. The other issue in the list released by Mr Faleiro about the priorities concerning the NRIs from Goa includesprotecting the houses and properties of the Goans away from their motherland. The Chief Minister, Mr Pratapsing Rane has asked me to take special interest in this matter and I am working in this regard, Mr Faleiro said. Mr Faleiro also intends to get the degrees of the Goa University recognised by foreign countries, especially the government of Kuwait where maximum Goans go in search of employment. I have taken up the matter with our ambassador in Kuwait and hope that he will pursue the matter with the said government, he stated. Goans holding foreign passports may use chartered flights, however, the PIOs who come to Goa on chartered flights are required to return within four weeks from the date of their arrival, Mr Faleiro further said, mentioning that PIOs of Goan origin should not be inconvenienced only because they have exceeded the four week period. The office of the commissioner for NRI affairs will also be setting up its website within a month to inform the NRGs of different facilities available to them from the state as well as the central government. The website will be developed by Goacominsys and Mr Jerry Menezes. Replying to a question, Mr Faleiro said that he would be proposing issuing of bonds for the NRGs with higher rate of interest than that offered by the banks, so that maximum money earned by the NRGs is invested in the state. Answering yet another question, the Commissioner for NRI Affairs said that he is examining the possibility of a single window system with the Economic Development Corporation. [Goanet] Good-bye, Good Friday and Maundy Money
--- * G * O * A * N * E * T *** C * L * A * S * S * I * F * I * E * D * S * --- USDA certified Goa Sausages and other Goan foods can now be delivered to virtually any part of the world. http://www.goanfoods.com --- A Hindu friend of mine asked me today why we call it Good Friday. What's so 'good' about it if Jesus Christ was crucified on this day? I gave him a off-the-cuff reply that explained how it was 'good' because by his dying the world was saved and similar blah. Later I went online and found many interesting explanations. The site below was the most clear and consise. http://www.kencollins.com/question-11.htm Calling the day of the Crucifixion 'Good' Friday is a designation that is peculiar to the English language. In German, for example, it is called Karfreitag. The Kar part is an obsolete word, the ancestor of the English word care in the sense of cares and woes, and it meant mourning. So in German, it is Mourning Friday. And that is what the disciples did on that day-they mourned. They thought all was lost. I've read that the word good used to have a secondary meaning of holy, but I can't trace that back in my etymological dictionary. There are a number of cases in set phrases where the words God and good got switched around because of their similarity. One case was the phrase 'God be with you', which today is just 'good-bye'. So perhaps Good Friday was originally God's Friday. But I think we call it Good Friday because, in pious retrospect, all that tragedy brought about the greatest good there could be. I can see virtue in either terminology. If we call it Mourning Friday, as in German, we are facing reality head on, taking up the cross if you will, fully conscious that the Christian walk is seldom a walk in the park. But if we call it Good Friday, as in English, we are confessing the Christian hope that no tragedy-not even death-can overwhelm God's providence, love, and grace. Either way seems fine to me! --- There are many more informative sections on Rev. Ken Collins site. Particularly check out: http://www.kencollins.com/glossary/vestments.htm http://www.kencollins.com/glossary/liturgy.htm The page below is also quiet readable without any long drawn vague philosophical explanations. http://catholicism.about.com/cs/lent/f/goodfriday04.htm Good Friday is the day that marks when Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross for our salvation. Today the whole Church mourns the death of Jesus. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. Catholics are also supposed to meditate and pray between the hours of noon to three o'clock in the afternoon. These are the hours Jesus hung on the cross. Good Friday is called good because on this day Jesus was crucified for our redemption of our sins. orld: Holy Friday for Latin nations, Slavs and Hungarians call it Great Friday, in Germany it is Friday of Mourning, and in Norway, it is Long Friday. Some view the term Good Friday (used in English and Dutch) as a corruption of the term God's Friday. Good Friday is also the only day that there isn't a full Mass. Fuelled now with a 'passion' for knowledge about Holy Week I checked out Maundy Thursday and found a lengthy explanation at: http://www.maundy.com/maundy_thursday.html Maundy Thursday The word 'Maundy' comes from the Latin word for commandment, mandatum. This is a special day for Christians. It is the day when they remember the Last Supper, the agony in the garden of Gethsemane and the arrest and trial of Jesus. The Last Supper is a key event for Christians. It was at this Last Supper which Jesus shared with his friends that he changed the words of the traditional Passover meal and commanded his followers to break and eat bread and drink wine in his memory. Christians throughout the world continue to do this. This act of remembrance is known as the Eucharist, Holy Communion, Mass or The Lord's Supper. The blessing of oils As Maundy Thursday commemorates the day when Jesus instituted the Eucharist through the Last Supper, it is also the day on which priests may renew their priestly vows. This service is called the Blessing of Oils and it is one where oil blessed by a bishop is distributed to the priests for them to use in their ministry the following year. Holy oil is used for baptism, confirmation and the anointing of the sick and dying. The distribution of Maundy money This is an ancient tradition dating from before the Middle Ages. However, when the Church of England broke with the Church in Rome and the English monarch became Supreme Head of the Church in England, the ceremony took on a greater significance. The reigning monarch, as Head of the Church, gives out

Though we all know that one day we all have to die, we prefer not to think or talk about it. From time to time we are shocked by the sudden death of someone close to us. Good Friday reminds us of a facet of God we would rather not look at; the powerlessness of God at the death of his Son; the price of loving passionately. Have an empowering 'Good' Friday! Fr. JudeReflections: Good Friday Unafraid to die, unafraid to live! 14-Apr-2006 Readings: Isaiah 52: 13-3:12; Hebrews 4: 14-16; 5:7-9; John 18: 1-19:42;The first reading from the prophet Isaiah speaks of the suffering and death of the servant of Yahweh. Of whom is the prophet speaking, of himself or of some other? Christian tradition believes that the prophet was speaking of Christ. Burdened by our sins he suffers silently, bent but not broken. He endures much because he loves much. He does not complain, he does not react but goes silently to the end. One could ask was it worth suffering so much for mankind? Do people appreciate all that he suffered for others? He risked his life, all he got back was One night a fisherman heard a loud splash. A man on a nearby yacht had been drinking and had fallen overboard. The fisherman leapt into the cold water and rescued the man and revived him with artificial respiration. Then he put the man to bed, and did everything he could to make the man comfortable. Finally, exhausted by the ordeal, the fisherman swam back to his own boat. The next morning the fisherman returned to the yacht to see how the man was doing. "It's none of your business," the man shouted defensively. The fisherman reminded the man that he had risked his life to save him. But instead of thanking him, the man cursed the fisherman and told him that he never wanted to see him around again. Commenting on the episode, the fisherman said: "I rowed away from the yacht with tears in my eyes. But the experience was worth it, because it gave me an understanding of how Jesus felt when he was rejected by those he saved." Mark Link in 'Journey'The second reading from Hebrews tells us how very much human like us, Jesus was. Jesus had known suffering as we do: he cried out like us, wept the same tears as we do. Jesus was a high priest unlike the high priests of old. He not only offered sacrifices for the people but he was the victim and sacrifice. He was not the distant detached high priest but one who felt and underwent all that makes us human beings. How did he cope with suffering? 'He offered up prayer and entreaty, aloud and in silent tears, to the one who had the power to save him. Although he was son he learnt obedience and became the source of salvation.Thy will, not mine... Robert Grant's short story "The Sign" concerns a young man called Davidson. He wants to be a writer and has just mailed his first novel to a publishing house. Filled with fear about the publisher's decision, he goes outside and paces back and forth in an orchard. It was Holy Week. His thought went back and forth between Christ and himself, like a needle and thread: to Christ in the garden of Gethsemane, kneeling in prayer, and to himself in the orchard... to Christ preparing for the supreme agony of hanging by nails Back to himself and his book with Dow Press He stopped and said..."Thy will, not mine." But then "a bolt of awareness" struck him. He really didn't mean what he said. What he really meant was that he wanted God's will to be done "if it coincided with his own will and worked out 'right', to the joint glory of the pair of them, God and Davidson. And for the moment he was nauseated," Then he sat down and cried. Mark Link in 'Journey'The passion narrative from the gospel of St. John is not merely a historical account of a legal process. In his gospel account John contemplates Jesus in the light of his faith in the resurrection. The ambience of the passion is not one of misery, not one of fear, but of courage and majesty. Jesus knows that he is going to suffer; he knows that he is going to his death but he does so freely. With full clarity he is aware that by offering his life he is

I was not able to locate the names of cities in the 80-100 bracket I was interested in. As you said, one may have to purchase the report to get it. While the report may be somewhat narrowly aimed at facilitating corporate decisions about HR matters such as compensation of expatriates according to their overseas location including on account of security, safety and health risks (which reduce qualit of living), I am interested in such surveys to activate thinking here about Goa as a city. The idea is to use a wholistic, integrated approach to Goa's development as opposed to the almost village level perspectives which seem to prevail. The following excerpt from the link you provided may provide a useful framework to proceed n this direction: The overall quality of living ranking is based on an evaluation of 39 criteria. New York has been used as the base score for quality of living, which has a total index equal to 100. Mercer's study is based on detailed assessments and evaluations of 39 key quality of living determinants, grouped in the following categories: Political and social environment (political stability, crime, law enforcement, etc.) Economic environment (currency exchange regulations, banking services, etc.) Socio-cultural environment (censorship, limitations on personal freedom, etc.) Medical and health considerations (medical supplies and services, infectious diseases, sewage, waste disposal, air pollution, etc.) Schools and education (standard and availability of schools, etc.) Public services and transportation (electricity, water, public transport, traffic congestion, etc.) Recreation (restaurants, theatres, cinemas, sports and leisure, etc.) Consumer goods (availability of food/daily consumption items, cars, etc.) Housing (housing, household appliances, furniture, maintenance services, etc.) Natural environment (climate, record of natural disasters) Cheers. _ Do not post admin requests to the list.
