the unit near your ear can potentially damage your

Pest Repeller for Large Rooms ( Code:PR912_new ) Delivery Cities
  Seller: Conway Exports

FEATURES Controls rats, cockroaches, ants, and moth Laboratory
research has shown ultrasonic sound waves attack the auditory and
nervous systems of most common pests causing them pain. With 130
decibels of sound pressure, pests will give up their source of
food, water and shelter and move on. These high-intensity sound
waves are out of the range of hearing of humans and most
household pets such as doges, Cats, fish and birds. No
Installation-Simply Plug it in. Maintenance free. Environmentally
Safe. Effectively protects unobstructed area measuring up to 230
Sq.mtr.
CHARACTERISTCS:
After switching it on, a small red L.E.D. glows to indicate that
Pestrepeller is operating properly. It has a unique test button,
which when depressed causes the unit to shift its output down
into shrill, siren-like sound within audible range of humans for
a reassuring check of its ultrasonic output. Automatically sweeps
the ultrasonic range of 30,000 Hz to 65,000 Hz. The adjustment
knob allows the rate of this sweep to be varied to prevent pests
from developing immunity to a pre-selected single sweep rate.
HOW TO USE:
During initial installation Ultrasonic Pestrepeller turn the knob
fully to the left or to the right. Each month later, twist the
knob just a bit in the opposites direction. By pressing test
button before and after the adjustment you can hear the
difference in the sweep rate. You will begin to notice the
effects of Ultrasonic Pestrepeller in a few days. There will be
an absence of rodent acridity. Perhaps you will notice and
increase in insect activity during this time due to the
ultrasonic sound waves driving these pests from hiding. In a
short while they'll be gone also. While the pests driven away,
they may leave their eggs and larvae behind that will hatch as
usual. At this point, however, Pestrepeller's ultrasonic output
will begin to attack these hatchings' auditory and nervous
systems, driving this new generation away. In 4 to 6 weeks the
infestation should be over and the home will be free of pests.
Leave it plugged in for year round pest control. It costs only
about Rs./- 0.50 a day operates. No more dangerous chemicals to
buy, no more messy traps to be clean.
CAUTION:
Do not place PESTREPELLER on carpeted surfaces, behind furniture,
draperies or other soft objects, as they will absorb the sound
waves. Do not place PESTREPELLER next to your ear before
performing this check. Avoid using it outdoors.

auditory and nervous system of the pests strongly with its
intensive ultrasonic wave. This function is effective to prevent
pests from immunity to a pre-selected single sweep rate.
Attack Wave technology convenient to user since no extra
attention is to be paid for periodical sweep speed adjustment.
On pressing it's unique test button the unit shifts its output
down into the audible range of human beings for a reassuring

Using owls to kill rats - the Orissa way
--
By Jatindra Dash, Indo-Asian News Service
credit: http://in.news.yahoo.com//040125/43/2b4ei.html

Bhubaneswar, Jan 25 (IANS) Orissa has turned to owls to kill
rats, aping a Malaysian idea that could help India save millions
of tonnes of foodgrain that is lost annually to rodents.
Employing what is called the bio-control method, the Wildlife
Society of Orissa used bamboo stakes to erect 20 perching
posts for owls in a half-acre plot of ripening paddy in October-
November last year.
At the end of the experiment, rat burrows in the plot were dug up.

Not only were there no rodents, there was no paddy in the holes
- indicating the area was free of the marauders, said Biswajit
Mohanty of The Wildlife Society.
The experiment was conducted in a village in Dhenkanal district
under the guidance of D. Lenka, a former dean of the Orissa
University of Agriculture and Technology.
The bio-control method, introduced in Malaysia in the 1980s, was
environment-friendly as it eliminated the use of poisons, the only
other way of eliminating field rats, explained Mohanty.
Every year, some 7 to 8 million tonnes of foodgrain is lost to
rats, which ravage fields and store the grain in their burrows.
The animals are rapid breeders and a single adult pair can
produce 500 offspring in a single year, Mohanty said.
Against this, a pair of breeding owls - and the 5-6 chicks they
produce in a year - can eliminate up to 3,000 rats in a year,
he added.
The only problem was that perching spots for the birds were
few and far between in most agricultural fields. This could
be overcome by physically constructing the perching posts.
Apart from owls, eagles and kites could also be used to
control the marauding rats, Mohanty added.
The use of poisons, according to him, had not only failed
to control the rat population but also killed predatory birds
that ate the poisoned rats.
Besides, the toxins also killed creatures like lizards and
frogs that inhabit the fields.
Widespread use of harmful poisons also led to
contamination of the soil and water.
Poaching had already decimated snakes, the other
natural enemy of rats.

Poisoning rats is a bad idea. Been thre, Done that.
Result, one dead dog, while the rats had a feast day.

Solution - Get a cat. The bigger the better, as
Goan rats are BIG.

If all else fails, enlist the services of a Pied
Piper.
There's quite a few on GoaNet, so you wont have a
problem finding one. Recommend that you check their
credentials though.

I am assuming thaqt you are serious, and are not
referring to two-legged rats which abound in Goa.
Only way to get rid of those is to Nuke the bunch.

Re: [Goanet]Dealing with rats...

Have found *ROBAN*, available at the local pharmacy (Margao,
Mapusa), quite effective. The "cakes' are priced about Rs.15/- a
pack... not sure now. Supposedly harmless to humans and pets!

Apparently, after 12/24 hours after ingestion of this poison, the
rats suffer internal bleeding and die. But the effect of the
poison also causes them to run out into the open, towards light.
Hence no dead rats/mice in inaccessible places behind furniture
or on the roof...and mercifully no stink.

God bless the people who concocted this remedy. Trust Maneka
Gandhi is not subscribed to GoaNet.

Dear Fred,

Just thought this might help!

1. Convene a 'emergency' one day Goa Legislative Assembly session for "Goa
Legislators only". preferably with "Money for all round development of Goa"
as the topic. Have the Governor of Goa deliver the inaugural address in
chaste 'Hindi' clearly half an hour before the scheduled time.

2. Ensure that all entrances/exits are sealed off after evacuating the
Assembly complex except the Assembly hall.

3. Gas the Assembly with poisonous gas (as firing poisonous pellets will be
ineffective since these special rats have developed unusually thick skins).

Voila! All rats are gone at one shot, effectively. You can never get rid of
these rats through our election process. To prevent the terrible stink,
burn the stiffs in the adjoining new
'illegal' Secretariat Complex
along with the Complex.

Cheers
