Thank God for Victoria Francis who obviously has the

[Goanet] Banna-halli (Benaulim, Salcete) and the True Goans !

2006-11-09 Thread CARMO DCRUZ
Hi Mario,

Well, according to my research (done painstakingly in the mid 80s),
Kannadigas were also the indigenous people of Goa along with the Gavdas and
the Kunbis. As a relative percentage, there were more Kannadigas in what is
now known as Salcette than Gavdas (as compared to Bardez) according to the
North-South population gradient and spread. So technically speaking, using
today's colloquia, you Bardezkars have a more Maratha (aka Ganti - from the
ghats) componont to your ancestry and less of a Kannadiga component than we
Sashtikars. That's why the Bardezi accent sounds more like Marathi than the
Sashti accent.

BTW my wife's hometown Benaulim in Salcete or Banna-halli (Banna means
arrow, halli means village) was supposed to be the place where Parashuram's
legendary arrow (which he shot from the Sahayadhri Ghats) landed - the
waters parted, and Goa with its beautiful beaches was born (according to the
Puranas). So we can conclude that Salcete was at the Genesis of Goa and we
Sashtikars are the True Goans !

Best Regards,

Dr. Carmo D'Cruz,
Shastikar, Proud Velkar,
Even More Proud to be a Goenkar,
Indian Harbour Beach, Goa.

[Goanet] Fw: JUSTICE FOR SPORTSPERSONS.

JUSTICE FOR SPORTSPERSONS.

This is in reply to Floriano Lobo goasuraj Pratima Gaonkar. (goasuraj) write
up on 29.10.06 in response to my article on the suicides of sportspersons
Angela Gomes and Pratima Gaumkar and harassment to Dr. Susane D'Souza by Goa
Sports Minister Maddkaikar.

Florian I highly appreciate your comments on the said subject. I find in
you and your party someone fighting for the cause of Goa and Goans
dedicatedly. This I have seen with my own eyes. Your party is not like any
other party in Goa that looks only for the election gains. You take up
causes of public interest. I know your efforts to raise funds for Pratima's
poor mother and while you were raising funds for her, Maddkaikar and others
were sleeping in Goa. What have they done for the poor family members of
Pratima? Why till now the person who has driven Pratima to commit suicide
is not brought to trial? Where are Madkaikar and Congress Party? You said
your "Party will revive the cases into the deaths of Pratima Gaonkar and
Angela Gomes and bring the culprits to book. This is a promise the Party
makes to Sports loving Goa and Goans". I and innumerable friends of mine
support you and your party on this subject and if necessary I will stand by
you on this issue. The two suicides of Angela Gomes and of Pratima Gaumkar
must be probed and guilty not only exposed but also
punished...

COMMENTS:

Dear Mr. Veronica,

We at goasuraj appreciate the mighty trust you have in our party. And we
shall see to it that this trust is not found wanting, ever.
They say, in a forest of weeds, brambles and other useless trees, it is
possible to find a lone tree, which some day, some time someone will be
appreciated for its worth and nurtured, by cutting away the wild creepers
and growth that is chocking it. Goasuraj is like that lone tree. At the
moment, it is surrounded by self-seeking trash. But there will be more
persons like you who will come to stand by it, in times to come.

As you have said, we shall be taking on the corrupt MLA of Aldona,
Dayanand Narvekar in the coming elections ( his latest unearthed scam is the
IT Park, Dona Paula, which he has sought to gift to his sister and
brother-in-law in Mumbai . A a PIL in this matter is in the offing). The
party's declaration to this effect will be made on 11th November, 2006, at
Manvin's Hotel, Panjim, where we shall be releasing the "Su-Raj Production's
'first' political awarebess movie ' NAKA TUM DUSRE PAUT' . The VCDs will be
available at V.P. Sinari, Panjim for Rs. 125/-. The movie has been sponsored
by a good heart and it is based on the Goa Su-Raj Election 2007 campaign
dialogue the party has come out with which is available to be downloaded on
www.goasu-raj.org . Along with the Aldona candidate, the party intends
declaring a couple of other candidates. Work in this direction is ongoing.

Once again, thank you for your trust in us. Apart from not disappointing
persons of good faith like you, we shall not dissapoint ourselves, ones who
have come up to lock horns with the politically corrupt, not only in Goa but
also in the Union of India.

As regards Pratima Gaokar, we did do something that we thought we should do
for her family. Apart from that, contrary to what some people believe, we
are not in the management of the SAG nor at the wheel of governance. Let the
elected government of the people do what the people want done, plus more. We
have many other things to look at. But as promised, we shall look back to
put things on record when we are in the saddle and nobody should doubt it.
The same goes for Angela Gomes. However, our very sincere advice to the
parents and true guardians of young Ivana Furtado is that they should be
very careful of wolfs in sheep's clothing, to protect the child, to let her
become what she will become, at her own space and time, and to be her
protectors always, so that none of the things that have happened to Pratima
Gaokar and Angela Gomes repeat with her. We wish little Ivana Furtado well.

Wouldn't you be jailed and or severely beaten up in
India if you carried out anti-India propaganda today?
India is still "sensitive" even though it may proclaim
to be "democratic". Meanwhile, I suppose one can
denounce the English head of state from a corner in

Please correct me if I have commited grave error in my

And that is the crux of the matter when one feels no
obligation to prove anything but can just say that the
statements made by other people are incorrect. Then
the audacity to gloat that they've proved credibly
their point. It's a bit like Goan politics. Do a

[Goanet] 10th November FRIDAY BALCAO to focus on the Regional Plan 2011 & ODP's

2006-11-09 Thread Goadesc
--
Welcome to the FRIDAY BALCAO
--

Dear Cybergaonkars on Goanet,

Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event
to be held on 10th November will focus on the
implications of Goa's Regional Plan 2011 & ODP's.

If one would take a closer look at the Final Regional Plan 2011
for Goa one immediately gets the impression that there is a
determined effort to transform Goa into a Hawaii on the west coast
of the country.

That the Regional Plan is tourism driven is obvious with the
converting of large tracts of forest, orchard and agricultural
land into settlement zones for the purpose of new Townships,
luxury condominiums, 5 star hotels and Golf courses.

Lest we forget, in 1987 almost 20 years ago the Goa Govt.
tried to push the Tourism Master Plan which had a similar
agenda as the present Regional Plan but had to shelve
the same after massive peoples protest.

Were the Village Panchayats, Zilla Panchayats and Municipal
Councils consulted before finalizing the Regional Plan ? Will the
Government of Goa discuss the Regional Plan in the Legislative
Assembly before its implementation ?

What will be implications for the Environment, Ecology and Identity
of Goa ? Has the Govt. taken into account the carrying capacity of Goa
when embarking on such a course to convert Goa into a tourism
State? Will the Central Government proposals to declare Goa as a
(STA) Special Tourism Area or convert the State into a Free Port
be revived ?

What are options of the local governing bodies, community
organisations, environment groups and NGO's to get the Regional
Plan 2011 withdrawn ?

The Balcao discussion will cover these questions and
also evolve an agenda for action by citizens on the issue.

Friday Balcao will be from 4pm to 6pm
at the Goa Desc Resource Centre
No.11 Liberty Apartments Feira Alta,
Mapusa and is open to members of the public.

We invite you to attend the Friday Balcao event
but if you cannot attend, then please send your

Jamir decries opposition to Expressway

BY HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, NOV 8 — With many an eyebrow raised over the Regional Plan and
Outline Development Plans for the cities, Governor S C Jamir has
called for striking a balance between environment and development, but
made it amply clear that people should not oppose development projects
such as the 6-lane Expressway.
"The state should strike a balance between ecology and development,"
remarked the governor, when newsmen drew his attention to fears
expressed in many quarters that the Regional plan would destroy the
State's greenery.
The governor, however, said the Regional Plan is not yet been
implemented and hoped that a lot of debate would take place before its
implementation.
When his attention was drawn to the opposition to the proposed 6-lane
Expressway as it would only destroy human habitation and ecology, the
governor said "people should not oppose development. The State
requires development. Development is for the people."
He further said that the people should look to the future as the
State's population and economy is heading for an increase manifold.
"Goa's identity is definitely heading for a change in the next 10-40
years. The government has to keep in mind future requirements and plan
accordingly. Development and environment should go side by side," he
said.
Earlier, the governor praised Goa's infrastructure terming it as
progressive and standard in the country.
Referring to the comments made by Portuguese Ambassador that Goa is
like Brazil, he said: "Goa is indeed a different land, where people
live in perfect harmony."
"The State is so charming that people feel like coming to Goa again
and again. This is the special feature of Goa and its people," Jamir
added.
The governor further said the spirit of truth should prevail amongst
the NGOs working for the society, saying "NGOs should practice truth,
compassion and transparency."
