[Goanet] Save the Frogs Campaign: Update in early June
I do not know who all sat down to draft the Indian Constitution (as I was not an Indian then). Reading now the daily news around, it looks to me that certain species of animals are more protected than the others. If a human being is murdered, run over by a vehicle, killed by a mad dog bite, harassed by monkeys, threatened by stray animal on roads; the law does not provide any protection to these two legged animals. On the contrary, if these two legged animals catch a frog, kill a mad dog, or cow or an aggressive monkey, the law enforcers rush to protect these animals and arrest the two legged ones. Which makes me derive at a conclusion that these two legged animals must have been a minority when the constitution was drafted. Or the other possibility that comes to my mind is a retrogressive evolution taking place with many of the two legged animals having genes of four legged ones. [Goanet] Kanika Datta: Rain of terror (Business Standard)
All of this is negated by a city in which municipal services have deteriorated beyond belief, even for its ever-tolerant denizens. This is true for most Indian cities. Whether it is Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad or Pune, the strange fact is that India's urban standards have deteriorated almost as rapidly as the country's economic growth has accelerated. As much as Indian newspapers choose to trumpet the country's future superpower status, the sad fact is that none of its cities can provide a lifestyle that matches that in even the smallest of the Asian tigers. http://www.business-standard.com/common/news_article.php?leftnm=10bKeyFlag= BOautono=325853 It may be just too much of a stretch to expect Goa to prove it can be an exception. Pity.

In fact, google and yahoo were founded by Stanford PhD students. If Sergie Bin, and Larry Page had listened to Edward and taken up jobs instead of going for a PhD (and yeah, they were not getting any jobs :-)) we wouldnt have had a google now. In fact, it is widely acknowledged that engineering PhDs are crucial to maintain a country's technological edge. So be patient and do your bit to Change Goa, rather than hoping for someone to Save Goa. Well said Selma. Just as some people are trying to blame the GBA here, another member in another community that I am a part of tried to blame the entire Journalist Fraternity for our present woes in a similar kind of discussion happening there. My Response to him in that community: Be the Change you want to see in the World In his early days as President of our Nation, Our Country's foremost Scientist Dr Abdul Kalam gave a highly inspiring speech in Hyderabad. In his thought provoking address, Kalam spoke how we citizens would always sit back wanting to be pampered, expecting others to do everything for us whilst our own contribution would tend to be generally negative. We would complain that our Government is inefficient, that our laws are too old, and that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits. We would complain and complain but would not want to do anything about it. So who's going to change the system? Kalam rhetorically asked his audience What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. The crux of Kalam's message was that while the Country was being raped and abused, we preferred to lock ourselves along with our families in a safe cocoon instead of trying to make positive contributions. That instead of trying to change the system, we were hell-bent on playing the blame-game, waiting for a Mr. Clean to come along work miracles for us with the majestic sweep of his hand. On this note, I remember Rang De Basanti, a movie I enjoyed watching thoroughly, and I must have watched it at least 4 times. The dialogues from this movie continue to linger in my mind, one of them being: Kaunsa Bhi Desh Accha nahin hota, use accha banana padta hai. Sometime back, I got into a chat with Aaron( Pereira) when I noticed a somewhat similar quote of Mahatma Gandhi's, Be the change you want to see in this world, in his chat profile. So I presume Aaron would agree with this line of thinking. So would Pravin, Dr Oscar, Patricia, Ritu Prasad and so many others who are devoting so much of their time and efforts, trying to bring about a change in the system, trying to make Goa a better place for themselves and others too to live in! I would hate to point fingers at the Journalists for were I to do so there would be fingers pointing towards me as well. If they did not report the rape when it was happening, we did not too. After all, Goa is not just their mother but ours too! So instead of trying to blame the whole world for our mess, let's be inspired by the actions of our Activists, emulate them and join and support them in the best possible way we can. Each one of us must try and be like the cop in a uniform. Let's be the change we want to see in the world. Cheers Sandeep

[Goanet] AFTER ZUWARKAR GOVT MOVES TO WITHDRAW CASES AGAINST KHALAP DESHPRABHU
One wonders whether the Digambar Kamat government in Goa which professes to care for the Aam Aadmi is going all out to save the skin of rich and well connected politicians. After having withdrawn the criminal case pending against former Minister Mr. Somnath Zuwarkar the Goa government is now making a further mockery of the judicial process by trying to withdraw the serious criminal cases pending against former Union Law Minister Mr. Ramakant Khalap and former MLA Mr. Jitendra Deshprabhu also under the guise of so-called public interest and public good as done in the Somnath Zuwarkar case. Is the stage being set to draw the curtain on the criminal case pertaining to the infamous 2001 fake one day international cricket ticket scam pending against the Law Minister Dayanand Narvekar and the remaining charges pending against former Minister and now Deputy Speaker of Goa's Legislative Assembly Mr. Mauvin Godinho. Re: [Goanet] Not all peaceful in GOA
Dear Sandeep, This is to tell you that your post is highly appreciated. BTW Mahatma's quote We Must be the Change you want to see in the World is printed on the first page of the Constitution booklet as well as the footer of the letterhead of the Goa Su-Raj Party. We realized that a 'system' change was needed if Goa was to be saved. And so we sat down to design that 'system', which took many a deliberations, a lot of heads put together in open discussions, way back in the year 2000. And that system change was called the Goa Su-Raj Party. We also knew at that time, some 8 years ago, that there would be many a forums and groups cropping up as time went by, very determined and potent, such as the GBA, UG, SVM, GMAS, GGRM, GGF etc. to try to arrest the increased and emboldened loot and plunder such as was evident in RP-2011. But at the same time we knew that apart from just trying to arrest and clean a little of the malaise, there would be precious little that could be done unless there was a SYSTEM change sought to be imposed through the renewed political writ. And we have not been proved wrong YET. The loot and plunder and the rape is continuing widespread with no one even knowing the extent of what is going on. For, one must know what is going on before one decides to fight it. In this context, let me say that in Morjim, Kerim etc, there are blatant unlicensed and unauthorised building projects being initiated by the moneyed land mafia from Delhi and elsewhere where the entire panchayats have been bought. This is infact the fall-out of RP-2011 which we knew could not and will not be scrapped because a lot of money had changed hands with the same people (practically) in the hot seats. And this writ goes thus: If we cannot build officially, we shall build unofficially - a challenge, indeed. Is there anyone in the present government to take up this challenge Therefore GBA, UG, SVM, GMAS, GGRM, GGF notwithstanding, this rape will continue until we Goans realize that we need a 'system' change in the way we look at politics where the 'system' will not allow the loot and plunder and the rape of Goa and Goans. Call it by any other name but it will ultimately still remain POLITICS. The sooner Goans like you and me realise it, the better it will be for our posterity. floriano goasuraj - Original Message - From: Sandeep Heble [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2008 11:44 AM Subject: Re: [Goanet] Not all peaceful in GOA Selma Carvalho writes: Furthermore, if we as Goans are looking for a single Saviour to save Goa, then I'm afraid the Jews are busy and the last one made an appearance some 2000 years ago. [Goanet] Narve Bicholim residents unite to preserve Jain Temple
-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM JUNE 12: With the government's apathy towards a ruined Jain temple the Villagers from Narve Bicholim, since a decade, are trying hard to save the last remains of the temple to maintain their rich heritage. The villagers from Narve Bicholim with a concern over the ruins of a Jain Temple have strongly expressed their displeasure over the Archiological department's apathy in maintaining this rich cultural heritage. Narve which is famous for the Saptakoteshwar temple also has rich a heritage which is totally neglected by the government. According to the villagers there is a Jain Temple in ruins which could be of historical significance. The temple is now totally in ruins and some of the stones are laying scattered in the area the ex-sarpanch of Narve village,Vithal Chodankar told Herald some years back at least the entrance of the temple was standing still, but now it has either submerged or broken down into pieces. The Jain Temple which once might have covered about 700 sq mts area is now difficult to identify. Huge slabs of historical importance are made to face the fury of nature and are the only testimony of a Jain temple in the area. The slabs have a peculiar design with swastik, goddess and an elephant on them. The ruins of the temple are laying in an inaccessible state on a hillock which is named as 'Jain coat' by the villagers. Several of the stones are either submerged under the soil, broken into pieces or covered with shrubs. The villagers at times clean the area and remove the shrubs in a bid to protect this heritage of their village. Long time back when Rane was the chief minister he had instructed to do an excavation at the site but no one turned up to take the responsibility Vithal Chodankar disclosed adding some 10 years back the department officers had taken some idols from the site but never bothered to preserve this heritage. During the course of time the villagers also recovered several idols and to save them from being smuggled they introduce a new technique. The idols were dumped into the near by river so that they remain in the village as it is our heritage and we felt it a need to protect it from being misused Chodankar claimed. The department had taken about three idols and i have noticed one of them in the museum at Old Goa and as per their claim it is dated 500 BC Khema Chodankar another villager told, questioning if the temple is so old then why is the government not trying to save it? Even as some of the idols were dumped into the river the villagers have kept one at a place near by and have given it a religious significance so that it remains safe in the area. As the government has turned nelson's eye over the issue the villagers have at least hoped that some of the disciples of the Jain sect would look into the matter to restore the temple.
[Goanet] Mining poses danger to ancient artifacts of Mulgao Bicholim
-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM JUNE 12: The mining activities near Mulgao Bicholim has affected the rich heritage of the village where several antique elements including some religious artifacts seem to be in danger. Since long the villagers have found several idols, Shivlingas and Hero stones in the area a villager and a teacher by profession, Vidhyadhar Raut told Herald. Most of these artifacts were recovered from the near by lake which has been dried out due to mining activities carried out on the hillock. During our childhood we used to enjoy swim in this village lake but now it has totally dried out and it took just about 10 years for the entire change Raut laments adding several idols and ancient Shivlingas found in the village were dumped in the lake for safety and were later recovered when the villagers did an excavation. Some years back several people had smuggled many wooden idols from the village and we got the news only when the the damage was done Raut explained besides this the mining might have already destroyed the heritage as is evident from the dry village lake. Some of the Shivlingas have now been placed near the lake under a small thatched roof. By the side of this temporary structure is another Shivlinga which is carved out from the hillock and seem to be that of a laterite stone. The Shivlinga is very rare and from its make out it is likely to be one of the oldest in Goa the incharge of the Heritage Action cell, Prajal Sakhardande told Herald when he visited the site. Besides Shivlinga some Hero stones are also found in the village. One of the Hero stone which is half broken has been placed very close to the village and depicts four figures. While three of them are playing some musical instruments the other is shown laying down wearing a crown. The Hero stones are from the Kadamba period and are found at several places in Goa, they were carved in commemoration of the dead soldiers Sakhardande explained this proves that in olden days there might have been a war in the area and the stone is an evidence of the same. Even as the mining and other environmental factors are degrading the Mulgao's cultural wealth the villgers take pride in preserving and maintaining their village heritage. These stones and Shivlingas would be kept in the village and we are making efforts so that they can be maintained Raut claimed we have also proposed a special board so that the stones could be identified.

[Goanet] Tiatr Income Expenditure etc
Tiatr Income Expenditure: Some more facts Let me add some more.. It was said a tiatr would require Rs.5000 towards advertisement per show. But this infact can be lot less too. That Rs.5000 may be to advertise up to 5 shows i.e. Margao, Panjim, Mapusa etc in 3 separate inserts. For just one show, one can spend mimimum of Rs.300-600 per insert (display ad in colour) and if the total inserts for the show are say 3 that the total expenses per show would be Rs.900-2400. What one can get for Rs.600 At that price one can get the size of ATM or Credit cards display ad. i.e. 5cmsx2cols Note: All ads appear in Herald. Herald has special Drama rate I.e. about 25% of the normal rate. Eg. If the same credit size display ad cost say Rs.2200 the same with Drama ad would be Rs.600 only. Double the size of credit card would be Rs.1200 and if advertised for 4 shows, then each show ad would come to Rs.300 Most Tiatr Ads are sponsored by business firms, NRIs or friends and family. To give you most recent examples: Ben forthcoming tiatr ‘Pez’ Cyril Almeida ‘Koddu Soth’ Anil-Olga Tiatr Mario Menezes ‘Hi Maim Konnachi’ Etc As for public applause, I have also seen some tiatrists arrange their own people preferably at the back rows, whom I treat as ‘fake audience’. If the tiatr is doing pretty well, full house etc – then it like ‘Jo Jeeta Woh Sikandaar’ they can make even more money buy selling the tickets in black. Last time I went for the 4th (Police) show at Panjim, around 11am, I saw a note saying ‘house Full”. However, half an hour before the show, I,e, around 3pm, I was told there were plenty tickets selling for Rs.150 (from Rs.60). Again, we went on the 9th June same show (22nd show) at Margao, on enquiry Filip Almeid (the man also a tiatrist who sell ticket at the counter GVN) said ‘all tickets sold out but balcony available’. However, there were some who were selling tickets in black for Rs.100 and that too right under Filip’s nose (at the counter). Don’t know who was actually involved in this racket. I did not want to break my record buying tickets in black so we bought ticket for balcony for Rs.50 (ticket price was showing Rs.30 though, it was altered by hand/pen to Rs.50), and yet the show was house full. However, we left the hall in just one hour as we did not find the sitting arrangement in the balcony comfortable. Viewing was obstructed by the people sitting in front rows and the stage actors faces were not recognizable as they were looking/facing right in front and not upstairs. One could not watch the tiatr by leaning back on theie seat, one had to lean forward for a clear view. The seats were of hard wood and not of cushions etc, The hall was supposed to have Air Condition but we did not feel cool at all. When we saw (around 5pm) the ticket sale for the 24th show (same day at 7.30pm), only last 3-4 rows were left, which mean the show gone house full too. At Margao, I think the sitting capacity is 700+400= 1100 i.e. 700 x 60 Rs.42,000 again 400 x 50 Rs.20,000 = Rs.62,000 per housefull show Which means 24x62= Rs.14,88,000 income for 24 shows alone. The project will be carried out through Engel's privately-held real estate developer EngelInvest Group. The two partners will invest $500 million in the building of 2,030 apartments. Engel Invest expects the proceeds from the project to total $1 billion. EngelInvest's CEO for global operations is Alon Avdani. The first and largest of the three projects is a 1,600-apartment complex in the Cortalim region overlooking the banks of Zuari river. The second project is a 160-unit complex in the capital Goa, Panaji. The third, and most luxurious of the three projects, is a 270-apartment complex in the upmarket region of Dona Paula, considered the most luxurious region in Goa because of the breathtaking view from the sea front. The apartments in this project will reportedly sell at a price of $5,000 per square meter. The architect advising on the projects is Avner Yashar of Yashar Architects. Goa is known among travelers and tourists worldwide for the breathtaking beaches along a 100 kilometer shoreline. It is considered one of the richest states in India. EngelInvest operates in India through local holding company Venosa, which it jointly owns with Hermoni, who has been active in India for 15 years. EngelInvest owns 75% and Hermoni owns 22%. The CEO of Venosa is Ronen Hermoni. The company plans to operate through Venosa in other regions in South East India. Hezi Hermoni is the former CEO of Tadiran Communications. Re: [Goanet] The International Goan Convention July 2008 - Brahmin Issues
Mario observes: Rui, Just to keep it simple, what the Brahmins are guilty of is the assumption of superiority and privilege because of their accident of birth, not by their personal character and achievements. Go tell it to the Peasants! Mario responds: Gabe, Buried somewhere in your choleric comments is proof of what I have been advocating. You have made my point better than I ever could, for which I must thank you:-)) What I have repeatedly opposed is superiority and discrimination based on one's caste as opposed to one's character and achievements. For example, none of the medical doctors and Ph.D's whose stellar achievements and contributions to the human condition we have discussed here recently was praised based on their caste. Neither you, nor anyone else on Goanet, has any idea what the supposed caste was of my ancestors, or even if they claimed to have a so-called caste. Believe me, no one brings up this abomination to my face a second time if they have had the misfortune to bring it up a first time. Any superiority that I may display at any given time in the eyes of a reader of Goanet would be based on my facts and personal opinions, which others are free to agree or disagree with. My Response: Thanks Marshall.. though you woke up rather late. You have proved yourself to be a great Economist. You deserve highest Civilian Award. Hope you replace either PM or FM of India for they are not worth calling economists. Aam Admi will be happy to have you in either of these two places as long as overall price rise, not just Oil, is under control Above reply is to Marshall who wrote: It appears that Dr Barad has a very poor understanding of economics. The price of oil has gone up from $30 per barrel in 2004 to $139 per barrel. India imports nearly 85% of its oil requirement. The consumption of oil in India has gone up by nearly 30% during this period. As a simple student of economics will tell you someone has to bear this rising cost. The government has been postponing a price rise to avoid public wrath and Inflation. In the meanwhile the PSU oil distributing companies have been bleeding. Therefore, a price rise, though unpleasant and undesirable has been long overdue. It would have been a positive development had Dr Barad given his suggestions for avoiding the price rise instead of making sarcastic comments. Or maybe as a BJP supporter, he feels that vehicles can run on cow's urine as propagated by the BJP Uttranchal govt. which is busy selling bottled cow's urine for medical purposes. Best regards, Dr. U. G. Barad

Those who had purchased their tickets from us are not that large in numbers. We are right now working out options so that they do not waste even a single day and are able to travel to Goa, said Ramchandran. The budget airline was scheduled to operate its flights to Goa from June 18 thrice a week. http://www.gulfnews.com/business/Aviation/10220762.html Emirates said yesterday it will offer 18 additional flights to India per week from July 1. The Dubai-based airline will step up its frequencies to New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, progressing its Indian footprint to 132 flights per week - the highest ever frequency for an international carrier in the Indian skies http://www.gulfnews.com/business/Aviation/10220638.html
[Goanet] Researching the Goan Mhar
For many Goans, even today, a trip to Church is followed by a trip to the Mhar. They see no dichotomy in this act whatsoever. Since Goan Catholics are relative new converts to Christianity, I am assuming this shamanistic element to our spirituality is derived from earlier rituals. If anyone has insights into this aspect, please do share. Does Hinduism have any shamanistic rituals and do Hindu Goans visit Mhars as well? many thanks, Selma

The poster clearly does not appreciate why some of the most capable students have opted to seek admission into Ph.D. programs in the world's top universities, as well as India's premier institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Statistical Institute, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences. At the risk of insulting the intelligence of most Goanetters who know better, to become a fully qualified scientist in any field today one has to obtain a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. One cannot become a college or university professor in most countries without obtaining a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Many present-day professions require a Ph.D. degree e.g. Clinical Psychology, Molecular Genetics and Neuropsychology. One cannot get a Ph.D. degree from any reputed university by copying. Plagiarism is a punishable offense whether done in the course of obtaining an undergraduate college degree such as a B.A., a professional degree such as an M.B.B.S. or a doctoral degree such as a Ph.D. Cheers, Santosh
[Goanet] LIMERICK FOR THE DAY 129 - A SUGGESTION FOR TORONTO GOAN CONVENTION
A SUGGESTION FOR TORONTO GOAN CONVENTION Scholarships like these are indeed a great boon, For Goans that are not born with a silver spoon In their mouths, but still have the brains And the fire and determination in their veins, To get ahead, and reach for the stars and the moon. For well-to-do Goans abroad it should be an obligation To assist voluntarily and join in the speedy creation Of several more such scholarships, That will help the poor eclipse Their difficulties, and contribute to their educational formation. Such scholarships need not necessarily be Only for studies abroad, but also guarantee Goan youth the possibility of pursuing their studies Elsewhere in India, as do their better-off buddies, And thus from their bondage of backwardness, free. This is an idea for this Goan convention in Toronto. If it could set up one such scholarship or maybe more, That would be visionary and prudent In aiding some disadvantaged student, To continue his university education, and also their genuine concern for Goans visibly show. Scholarships like these would indeed be a great concept, That we should actively foster, and not just in principle accept. Fervently would our youth bless and applaud Those well-to-do Goans that are living abroad, Who would set up such scholarships for those intellectually adept. - Shanti Dhoot RE: From GoanvoiceUK [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] date Thu, Jun 12, 2008 at 8:03 AM** **subject GoanvoiceUK Newsletter Issue 2008-24. [Goanet] Not all peaceful in GOA
This posting is in reply to Message No 1, dated Wed, 11 June 2008. Let me first take other side of the main topic, for it is stretched far too beyond with heavy flavors by the self-styled spokesman. 1. Pravin Writes: Mr Barad is saying that - I shall hit you, but you have no right to hit back. My response: Check all my mails posted to Goanet on above subject including any other subject(s) on which I have responded / posted. I have never ever used this line anywhere in my posting. I wonder from where Pravin got this line. And why Pravin should tag his verbalize line to my name? 2. Pravin links me saying - This malacious man is on the payroll of the Mining Lobby - This would-be-candidate wants to enhance his value with the mining lobby. My response: Check who is saying this? Both these versions are tossed / coined by Pravin himself as in (1) above. Both these imaginations of Pravin are not at all applicable to me till date.I don't no whether these two tossed versions are applicable to Pravin or not! 3. As far as Rajan Parrikar is concerned I believe Rajan is a sharp shooter. Realizing the Pun used by me in my posting on above subject Rajan did not react. Not realizing the Pun used, Pravin took up for Rajan as if he is also a Spokesman for Rajan Parrikar saying - sexist statements from a perverted mind. Such extempore statements like Sexist statement and perverted mind is not expected from any spokesman. No doubt Pravin is free to act as freelance Spokesman for anyone but definitely not for me and I don't think smart Rajan will require either. Goanetters can verify all these points by browsing archives of Goanet. Best regards to Pravin for continuing to hold Mirror in hand, Dr. U. G. Barad
[Goanet] Unauthorised meet okayed land
Unauthorised meet okayed land 13 Jun 2008, 0243 hrs IST, Preetu Nair,TNN PANAJI: Not only did the Goa Industrial Development Corporation act in haste to allot plots to the K Raheja Corp Pvt Ltd for an SEZ, but they increased the floor area ratio (FAR) on par with the IT habitat at Dona Paula and even sacrificed plans of setting up a government SEZ to allot 300 acres to Meditab Specialities Pvt Ltd. In addition, though the still 'under formation' Peninsula Research Development Centre, Sancoale, had applied for Export Processing Zone status, SEZ status was conferred. The reason: the 'government feels it could be an SEZ'. The list of irregularities goes on. Documents acquired by anti-SEZ activists under RTI reveal that allotment of land to Raheja's was done at the GIDC board meeting on April 19, 2006, attended by only four members- GIDC chairman Chandrakant Kavlekar, MLA Aleixo Sequeira, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Nitin Kunkolienkar and Managing director A V Palekar. Other board members, including the director of industries were absent. A possible explanation for their absence is that they received the notice of the meeting at the time when the meeting was already in progress. Three board members - secretary industries, director industries and chief electrical engineer-acknowledged receipt of the notice with signatures on April 19, 2006 at around 5 pm, an hour after the scheduled start of the meeting. Going by the industries and labour department regulations this meeting should not have taken place as there was no quorum. The regulations state: 'four members present will form a quorum provided that at least one of the members nominated under section 4 (1) (d) (in this case industries director) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Industrial Development Act, 1965, other than the chairman is present'. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/Unauthorised_meet_okayed_land/articleshow/3124897.cms

Derek, please try to write something smaller and to the point. Good theme, but far too many words... JP FOOTLOOSE / Derek Almeida - The bomb within Gomantak Times, June 1, 2008 IT WAS ON Thursday that members of the Goa Bombard Abhiyan met in a secluded room in Caranzalem to bomb the interim report on the Regional Plan and declare war on the Task Force.

Re: [Goanet] the return of the SEZs
It was expected that THE EMPIRE will strike back. They will try the Courts, The Centre, and every means fair or foul. They will wine and dine, bribe and cajole , use the GCCI, CII, Media, power and pelf, and WE THE PEOPLE will have to stay together, back each other, stand firm, SACRIFICE, have moral courage, so they can recognise that we are a Democracy, not a Banana Republic. So far The Empire made the rules, unchallenged and yes Industry will suffer. But that is nothing compared to how Goa is being raped, the Aam Admi is suffering and will continue to be marginalised so he will have to survive in the concrete jungle, where his soul will finally be killed. Notice this policy of subsidised vegetables, buying from outside,so whats left of our local vegetables is priced out. The policy should be-Teach and help the person to fish, instead of giving him subsidised fish. Of course the fish in the rivers and sea must be protected first and the person find it easy to organise his fishing.and Goans will then be able to afford and enjoy their vegetables fish curry and rice, with green nature still around

frankly speaking the destructors of goa , including those in power who are with these destructors have actually taken advantage of the goodness/ soft side/love thy neighbours attitude of Goan people so far and for long...not realising that if TRUE GOAN wakes up these destructors will loose their sleep forever. So, Builders and co-partners incl. our very own goan judas'es - stay away don't wake us from the wrong side of the beach bed - let us enjoy - come, join us, enjoy, go - do not dare to destroy GOA - look somewhere else please... Shantibai, If you are a firm believer in democracy, have firm and unflinching faith in people...if you have lost faith in people, nothing can save your democracy. As for 'doctor', 'architect', 'designer'etc. etc., they are igniting the spark in the people..because they believe in the people's power.. and have rightlyrealised that the people have lost the spark for different reasons... which U have best described in your whole article. Only positive faith in people can save Goa and the country from the present state. Hope an empowered woman like you will join the movement of igniting spark among masses to make them people. -regrds, prakash kamat --- Read all Goanet messages at: http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/ ---
