Re: [Goanet] What To Do In Falling Markets - Off Topic

2008-09-26 Thread Mervyn Lobo
Folks,
Let me stick to the (off) topic here.

If you have five years or more before you need to access the money you have
in the stock market, the best thing for you to do right now is probably nothing.

If you have less than five years, see the person who advised you to buy the
stocks
you have. S/he will be best placed to give you advice, depending on what your
current
situation is and what info s/he has about you on file.

Personally, I think the stock markets are heading for a crash since the US
financial
system has collapsed. I have raised a lot of (non-US) cash and will only start
buying
mutual funds after the crash.

These  decisions are made on the following facts:
1) Bill Clinton left the US with a budget surplus of 560 BILLION dollars.
The US treasury is now broke.
2) When Clinton entered office, the Dow was at 3,300 points. When he left, it
was at 11,000 points.
3) We have had eight years of debauching of the value of the US dollar.
4) Increase in the supply of money ALWAYS results in inflation.
5) Both US presidential candidates promise more of the McPain.

The current US capitalism model is: Privatize the profits, socialize the
losses.

[Goanet] Hope fades after one month of widespread attacks on Christians in India

2008-09-26 Thread Ancy D'Souza
Hope fades after one month of widespread attacks on Christians in India
 - All India Christian Council

Inadequate government action and continuing attacks by Hindutva
fundamentalists point to more violence in future; aicc recommends
specific corrective actions

New Delhi, September 26, 2008, 8.00 hrs

Over one hundred churches were burned, dozens of Christians killed,
and thousands attacked in their homes across India in the last month.
Since the Central and state governments have responded slowly, the All
India Christian Council (aicc) expects more violence in the days
leading up to national elections, which are required by May 2009. The
aicc is working on advocacy efforts from Geneva to Washington, D.C. to
New Delhi and is releasing a list of recommended action points. The
violence started during a strike in Orissa state on Aug. 25, 2008,
called by hardliner Hindu fundamentalist groups to protest the murder
of a swami by unknown assailants.

Dr. Joseph D'souza, aicc president, said, It's been a month since
unprecedented, premeditated attacks on Christians started in Orissa
state. India has witnessed innocent Christians beaten, killed, and
their property destroyed throughout our nation. The response of some
government officials and leaders of Hindu fundamentalist groups was
predicable. They talk of conversion as if this were an evil,
unnatural thing. They make accusations about foreign funding of
churches to create fear. What we haven't seen is firm progress toward
permanent changes that will bring mob leaders to justice and stop
future violence. We believe the majority of Indians want to live in
peace and harmony, but our hearts are discouraged as we wait for
meaningful action.

Due to the wave of violence, including arson which destroyed dozens of
Christian homes on 24th night in Kandhamal District, Orissa, Christian
leaders are still unable to accurately estimate the loss of property
and confirm names of dead or injured. During the last month, aicc
collected reliable accounts of attacks in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh,
New Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Many of the
attacks were sporadic and appeared to be `copycat' attacks after media
documented the original violence in Orissa and breakdown in the rule
of law. However, the widespread violence in Orissa and simultaneous
attacks on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 in Karnataka were preplanned.

In light of continuing unrest and sporadic attacks, the aicc
recommends the following:

1. Immediate deployment of India's army to Kandhamal District, Orissa.

2. Court proceedings by state governments, under Indian Penal Code
295A or other appropriate laws, against Hindu fundamentalist leaders
who made inflammatory remarks to media which triggered spread of
violence.

3. India's Prime Minister to lead a delegation to visit the victims in
Orissa, the epicenter of the anti-Christian attacks.

4. Amendment of a presidential order, officially titled Constitution
(Scheduled Caste) Order, 1950, to give legal recognition to Dalit
Christians and Dalit Muslims as Scheduled Castes. This would allow
assaults on these communities to be prosecuted under the Scheduled
Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

5. Any commissions established to investigate the violence should be
headed by active, not retired, judges with a record of non-sectarian
rulings.

6. Research and prompt release of white papers on conversions by state
governments in all states with Freedom of Religion laws
(Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa) and
Karnataka.

7. If state governments insist on investigation into foreign funding
of Christian groups and organisations despite records already
maintained by India's Ministry of Home Affairs, then studies must
examine all non-profit organisations, regardless of religious
affiliation.

8. Full and adequate compensation and justice for all the victims,
including funding for rebuilding businesses and places of worship.

9. Establishment of a state commission for minorities in Orissa.

Dr. Udit Raj, National Chairman of All India Confederation of SC/ST
Organisations, participated in the United Nations Human Rights Council
session in Geneva from Sept. 9-17, 2008. He said, Recent brutal
attacks on Christians continue to remind us that religious intolerance
and caste discrimination are synonymous. Right-wing Hindu
organisations unleashed the violence against Christians. These attacks
usually happen in areas where Dalits have embraced the Christian
faith, built businesses, and improved their standards of living. I
strongly urge all communities and parties to work together to
establish justice and harmony while tackling the root issue – human
rights for Dalits and other minorities. The All India Confederation
of SC/ST Organisations is a partner with aicc.

Aicc is working with US-partner, the Dalit Freedom Network, to ensure
United States authorities raise the issue of religious freedom with

To,
The Editor,
Navhind Times.

Sir,

My only reaction to the above report is that India in general and Goa in
particular must hang its head in shame for allowing road-side politics to
creep into the sanctum-sanctorum of the 'higher education system'. If this
is not arrested in the very near future, our prestigious educational
institutions will be churning out destructive political ideologues and
millitant cadres rather than erudite persons of higher learning who will
destroy this nation through bomb blasts; burning/desecracting religious
places of worship and killing, maiming, burning/burrying alive and raping
innocent people. We have examples galore of the politically motivated
university students having played havoc on the University Campuses. One of
the sordid examples is in Gwallior, MP, when the otherwise perfectly
healthy professor Agarwal died of a massive heart attack during the
altercation with the BJP Yuva Morcha lead by student Tamta. If I remember
correctly, the Supreme Court had appointed ex-election commissioner, Mr.
James Lyngdoh to submit a report on the hard-core political involvement by
students on university campuses or something to that effect. The
determination of the Goa Su-Raj Party which I lead is to completely ban '
party politics' of any sort mixing with education, thereby banning internal
university/college elections etc. on political party lines. Goa needs to
heed to this advice and very badly too. 'Party Politics' and political
ideiologies has its defined place which is definately outside the
perimeter of Educational Institutions.

[Goanet] CopaGoa: Siolim Union book their place in finals

2008-09-26 Thread Benedict Lobo
*CopaGoa: Siolim Union book their place in finals*

Dubai:Siolim Union advanced into the CopaGoa finals by beating Canacona to a
score of 2-0.It was good start for both teams who made good moves wanted
to be the first to get the ball to the back of the net of their opponent,
but Siolim Union-Dubai (Lebanese Insurance Co) were the first to beak the
lock in the 5th minute, Johnny struck a dramatic shot inside the Canacona
?D? to beat the defense and keeper who were totally lost with the shot. The
rest of half both saw both the sides making deep forays to score.

In the second half both teams kept penetrating and made moves but their
attempts did not bear any fruit, and besides Siolim Union-Dubai experienced
defense stopped their opponents from any goal scoring opportunity. Jhonny of
Siolim Union ? Dubai struck again in the final minutes, making his team
victorious to qualify for the finals with two goal win over Canacona.Jhonny
of Siolim Union was declared the man of the match.

In the Exibition match between BOMBAY XI and GOA XI, Bombay XI emerged
winners giving a score of 2-1.The game was very fast paced as it was a
selection of best of the players from all the teams that exited the
tournament and others who could not make it to any teams due to their busy
work schedules.
Bombay XI went into the lead in the 10th minute with a goal from Steven
Gurung making no mistake in placing the ball nowhere close to the Goan
keeper.
After the breather Goa XI got the equalizer in the 5th minute through a
beautiful long range shot almost 40 yards by Dominic straight into the
Bombay net and the keeper probably did not even see the ball pass him.
Bombay XI bounced back to the lead in the dying minutes of the game when
their defender was brought down in the Goan D that ended in a penalty
Myron made no mistake in converting the spot kick. Both teams could not
increase any score till final whistle.

[Goanet] Incorporate Roman Konkani

2008-09-26 Thread Arwin Mesquita
Konkani in the Roman Script must be incorporated into Goa's Official
Language Act. The 20 year old Act in the current form is doing more damage
to Konkani, than Good. There is a significant percentage of Goans, who
relate more to Roman than Devanagari. While the Devanagari script
is important for the Indian perspective, the Roman script has a wider
international appeal; hence both scripts will boost Konkani (basis for Goan
Identity) and also give Goa have a Strong Global Appeal. The Roman Script
can also help connect many in the Goan Diaspora, to their roots and possibly
encourage some of them to return home. Goa's Identity is a blend between the
East West; which enforces the argument for having Konkani in both the
scripts; in the Official Language Act.

This evening, it made it to the local TV/cable news in Goa.

There was this item about college kids (or higher secondary students)
filming a fight in their institution in Margao, and placing it up on
YouTube for all to see. As usual, the media responds to anything
cyber-related with panic. The report seemed to back the view that
something terrible had happened. The school authorities spoke about
the problems created by mobile-phones (cum cameras) being brought into
 educational institutions.

When I googled a bit, I came across this page:
 RMS GIRL FIGHT
girls from RMSalgaokar Higher Secondary School(Comba, Margao ...

 Rated 3.7 out of 5.0
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF6GXKuv_CE

A visit to the page shows the pink banner which reads, This video has
been removed due to terms of use violation.

While such incidents might reflect poorly on students and a particular
institution, is this a matter that calls for deletion of a video,
citing terms of use? Google and other big cyber entities have come
in for criticism for their stance over knocking off content which was
believed to offend the authorities in China or wherever.

 Incidentally, there are networks like
 [http://www.filmclips.be/delutube.htm] or
[http://www.filmclips.be/delutube.htm] which offer to recover deleted
Youtube videos, in some cases! Not all working though...

What do you think of it? FN

Same thing happened in Netherlands a few month ago, some circumstances
(mobile-phone film on YouTube) same results: 'censorship'. That's fairly
easy to achieve: concerned persons send 'concerned' mail to YouTube, where
a human being (very quickly, hundreds requests to handle a day) looks at
the stuff, and deletes it (or not, or kicks it 'upstairs' for further
review). Mind you this happens not only on YouTube, but in many, many
other instances, and its getting worse, as lawmakers the world over want
to make ISP/ hosts responsible for content, not the individual authors.
The ISPs/ Hosting sites don't want to get in trouble - or even merely do
some no-revenue acruing work - and are very quick with the 'delete'
button. Censorship has now been outsourced - with success!

While there were millions of bytes and words flying around, castigating
Hindus for being violent, no channel has thought of highlighting the
atrocities perpetrated against them in Kandhamal by the state administration
and Christian missionaries.
IT?S BECOME a trend with the news channels to pounce upon a Hindu on
rampage, ignoring the very cause of retaliation. I am referring to Orissa
violence, where Christians were targeted and brutally assaulted. At many
places even their homes were set on fire.
While there were millions of bytes and words flying around, castigating
Hindus for being violent, no channel has thought of highlighting the
atrocities perpetrated against the Hindus in Kandhamal by the state
administration and the Christian missionaries, especially following the
murder of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati. They have been targeted; their
families have been threatened by other communities. They have no shelter and
no food to feed their families. Their houses were burnt by the criminals,
who did not even allow them to earn their bread and butter.
These conditions of the innocent Hindus were recorded by a high-level
delegation led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), MP, Jual Oram, which
visited Kandhamal district on September 4, to assess the situation after
Swami Laxmananda Saraswati?s murder.
Always the Indian media, especially the electronic media, represents the
Hindus as militants and persecutors that is really disturbing and sad. These
news channels behave in most unpatriotic manner and report the stories like
most of the foreign correspondents do, who lack understanding of India.
A peep into the history books will reveal how different religions profess
militancy. It is necessary for the Indian media to bring forward a more
balanced view of the sensitive problems. The gory past of Christian
atrocities is forgotten now but history will never forgive culprits like
Alfonso de Albuquerque who carried out the persecutions of Hindus in 1510.
He burnt ?heretics?, crucified Brahmins, used false theories to forcibly
convert lower castes and razed the temples to build churches upon them.
How can one forget one of the most fiery communal statements ever made
against the Hindus. Claudius Buccchanan, a chaplain attached to East India
Company, said, ?Neither truth, nor honesty, honour, gratitude, nor charity,
is to be found in the breast of a Hindu?. What a comment on a nation, that
had welcomed these merchants because of the Hindu philosophy of universal
brotherhood. This communal agenda of Claudius paved the way for British to
trap the poor and simple tribals for conversion and bury their cultural
identities for ever.
Coming to the recent violence in Orissa, the police, even before it could
visit the spot where Swami Laxmananda Saraswati was killed, claimed that the
murder was committed by the Naxals. Even media played up the story. The fact
of the matter, however, is that there is a lot of enmity between the
converts and the non-converts. The non-converts are furious over the
Christian missionaries hogging up their lands to propagate Christianity and
converting them through cash inducements and other ugly means. Missionaries,
on the other hand, are frustrated over the hurdle created by Swami
Laxmananda Saraswasti?s movement of bringing back the converts to the Hindu
fold. Swamiji?s murder was a result of the simmering emotions between the
converts and non-converts.
Sometimes back, it was claimed by the media that the burning of churches in
Andhra Pradesh was the design of ?fanatic? Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, but
later it was proved that it was the handiwork of ISI to foment hatred
between the Christians and the Hindus. Yet, the Indian media that went
berserk at the time of the burnings, mostly kept quiet when the true nature
of the perpetrators was revealed.
Missionaries, especially, the Indian priests, would like us to believe that
democracy includes the freedom to convert by any means. But in France, a
Christian nation, has a minister who hunts down non-Christian sects. The
system is so ruthless that even the Scientology Church, favoured by some
Hollywood stars such as John Travolta, is mercilessly hounded out.
And what America, which is recognised as the largest democracy in the world,
did to Osho movement in Arizona, or how innocent children and women were

Subject: [Goanet] Advice on immigrating back to goa
 To: goanet@lists.goanet.org
 Date: Thursday, 4 September, 2008, 12:17 PM
 Hi,

I have been a regular reader of goanet forums for the last
 6 months. I love
the Mario's, RP, Arwins, Selmas and Barads of this
 forum and the ferocity in
which each side make their opinions. With some trust i
 would like to put a
personnel questions to all the goanet forum readers.
 Here is a brief background:

I have been living in the UK for about 8 years with my wife
 and two
kids. Before this i was in panjim-goa studied in goa and
 pune.
Later immigrated to england via portuguese passport.
 Currently, I work for a
hedge fund as a quant developer and i am 32 years old. I
 own house, car and
everything seems normal and cosy. Except we miss the way of
 life in goa. I
grew in caranzalem right by the beach, playing footbal and
 cricket.

In the last 2 years we have been thinking with some
 intensity to return back
 to Goa. Reasons are mainly
 1. We want kids to grow with a sense of community and
 family. All family in
 goa.
 2. Wife has no chance to advance her career as child care
 is costly and we
think is not favourable in the long term development of the
 child.
 3. I am very passionate about goa and want to be doing
 something[may be
business and have some ideas] that will make a difference
 to the good of the
 society in goa/india.

I have been back to goa for holidays a couple of times and
 i know already
that there are somethings i will have to get used to back
 again
 1. Traffic
 2. Cleaniness
 3. Crab mentality
 4. Bureaucracy and corruption

However, i think i can overcome all this (am not sure of no
 1 :-))

My question really to anyone who would like to reply:
Am i being a fool or deluded to go back to goa as some
 people tell me or is
this normal to some people to go back. This is a
big decision for us as family.

Any replies and advice will be appreciated.

[Goanet] Open letter to Goanet and other Goan related websites

2008-09-26 Thread CORNEL DACOSTA
OPEN LETTER TO GOANET AND OTHER GOAN RELATED WEBSITES

We have had Cecil Pinto's confirmation on GX (GoenchimXapotam) that, it is
Frederick Noronha who rejects large numbers of posts sent to Goanet without the
slightest whiff of an explanation. This disclosure has not been rebutted by
Frederick for over a fortnight and I therefore want to congratulate him on his
contribution towards corruption and the absence of transparency for which India
has just been rated 85th out of 180 countries on the Transparency International
Survey. But what on earth am I talking about?

Anyone who googles Transparency International will discover that since 1995,
there has been an official international body (executive director,
Chandrashekhar Krishan) that studies corruption in differnt countries and
provides such data in a league table. The latest was published on 23/9/08 and
its details, especially on its methodology, are on Google.

Many will recall that since the start of 2008, there has been a huge number of
posts rejected by Goanet without explanation. This prompted several posters to
question what was going on rather unexpectedly. In my case, I had 25 to 30
rejections since Jan 2008 and virtually none among many hundreds, in the
previous six years--and of course, I had not changed my general focus nor
writing style in any way! Others had similar experiences and this led to
Santosh Helekar kindly agreeing on behalf of others, to list key questions that
needed to be addressed by Goanet--specifically relating to the rejection of
posts without explanation. The immediate response to Santosh Helekar's very
polite and precise query was the standard rejection note that his post was
inappropriate. It was of course sent by a person who chose to remain
anonymous and so much in keeping with recent Goanet practice!

Unfortunately, I am only now able to respond to the totally unexpected info (at
least for me) that good old Frederick Noronha lay at the heart of the rejection
racket whilst taking good care not to be discovered as the villain of the
piece. Coincidentally, just after Cecil's disclosure about Frederick Noronha's
role vis a vis Goanet, I happened to be in Russia where among the academics I
met, the central concerns were: a) the problem of growing corruption at all
levels in that society including the Net, schools, colleges, universities,
employment etc. The parallels with India seemed very close but the Transparency
International League table now puts Russia at 147 compared to India at 85 out
of 180 nations. b) the absence of a free press in Russia and the wide use of
censorship.

I naturally found it difficult to believe that Frederick Noronha whom I have
always held to be a decent guy was the source of so much unrest among serious
and highly educated posters on Goanet and therefore wish to make the following
observations, knowing full well that this post is unlikely to appear on Goanet
for the simple reason that Goanet cannot handle even the mildest form of
constructive criticism. It will howeve be read widely and Goanet members will
have access to it irespective of every means that Goanet tries to block it:

1. If indeed, Frederick Noronha is (with others) the owner of the Goanet site,
I can accept that, it is his prerogative to reject those posts he does not
personally consider acceptable for his site. However, he and his fellow site
owners have TOTALLY FAILED to inform us posters that this is indeed a private
site in which he (Frederick Noronha and unnamed associates) can do as they
please with absolutely no regard for any accountability nor any concern for the
posters. Had he and his associates acted properly, there would not be a need
for several posters, unhappy with Goanet post rejections, to try to endlessly
extract information from the so called moderators about the discernible pattern
of post rejections. This lack of transparency regarding Frederick Noronha's
hidden hand on Goanet is in my view, one clear illustration of corrupt practice
on Goanet. Why on earth not just come clean and say that only what he says goes
on Goanet instead of
consistently pussy-footing about the 'constructive objectives' of Goanet,
endlessly welcoming posts and commentary but operating very much like Lady
Macbeth as an assassin from behind the scenes?

2. Another example of corrupt practice on Goanet is when consistency is absent.
At least one moderator will provide a reason for the rejection of a post and
indeed be named so that at least something may be done about it. Yet, virtually
all others will remain anonymous (whoever they are) and will use the sham of a
standardised rejection note. When the available Goanet protocol is followed up
to seek an explanation for a rejection, the question simply ends up in limbo
everytime. If Frederick permits this kind of corrupt practice as a site owner,
questions are surely reasonable regarding his personal integrity in running an

India - The Nation at Cross-roads

by Dr Euegene D`Souza, Mumbai

Sep 26, 2008
Over the years the Indian nation is undergoing the trauma internal conflicts
and communal clashes. Religious, linguistic, regional and cultural minorities
have been under a siege from the fanatic and parochial elements who pose as the
champions of their religion, language or culture. By such recurring activities
of the radical groups the foundation of the nation that was built on the
principle of unity in diversity is shaken to the core.
Day in and day out we are treated to the distressing news of minorities being
attacked; their places of worship, residences and business establishments are
being burnt and destroyed.  People belonging to other regions have been
harassed. They are deprived from appearing for competitive exams in other
cities and those who carry on their trade or petty business have been termed as
‘outsiders’ sending the message of insecurity among them. The radical elements,
putting on the garb of ‘moral police’ have vandalized paintings of artists on
the pretext of safeguarding their deities and culture being ridiculed.
Linguistic chauvinists have been threatening the shop-keepers to put up
hoardings as per their diktat and even did not hesitate to humiliate the iconic
film family, the Bachchans alleging that the matriarch of the family had
insulted the language of the region.
All these developments are manifestations of a society that is increasingly
becoming intolerant and obscurantist. The misinformation and attack on
religious and linguistic minorities by indoctrinated and misguided fanatical
elements from the majority groups is both unfortunate and unwarranted.
There is a need for introspection among the right thinking members of the
majority community as to why people, especially belonging to the lowest castes
and untouchables have got themselves converted to those religions which have
been considered to be egalitarian. Through the history it could be observed
that many of those who had been marginalized and those who had been denied
basic civil and human rights as well as forbidden to worship the deities of the
upper castes had embraced the religions that gave them dignity and promised to
better their economic and social conditions.
The situation has changed since the independence of the country from the
colonial rule. The constitution of India and social legislation including the
reservation policy of the government has enabled the scheduled castes and
tribes and the former untouchables to get better education, gainful employment
and social mobility. Hence, these sections of the population need not depend on
the missionaries to achieve their socio-economic goals.
The schools and colleges, hospitals, orphanages, old age homes and other
institutions run by the minorities, especially Christians cater to the needs of
all irrespective of their religious affinity. Christians constitute two percent
of the entire population. They are known to be peace-loving community and they
lack political ambition. Then how they are a threat to the majority community?
In Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, the regional chauvinism has been
manifested by harassment of north Indians, especially from Uttar Pradesh and
Bihar. Terming these immigrants as ‘they’ as against ‘we’ has been a clever
ploy to divide the people and gain political mileage. In both the cases-attack
on religious minorities and harassment of ‘outsiders’, the hidden agenda of the
perpetrators is neither religious nor regional, but purely political.
Working on the human psychology, it is easier to consolidate the majority
community behind a political party by pointing out ‘common enemies’-religious
minorities at the wider level and ‘outsiders’ at the regional level. This
experiment was successfully conducted in the last election in Gujarat.
By pointing out the threat from the minorities to their religious faith,
spreading misinformation regarding conversion activities and attacking the
minorities, radical groups affiliated to certain political parties project
themselves as the ‘defenders’ of the majority religion and hence, win them over
emotionally and create a larger vote bank that would enable them to capture
political power either at the state level as in Gujarat or at the national
level.
It is easier to create imaginary ‘enemies’ of and ‘threat’ to the majority
religion in order to promote their political interests rather than taking up
issues like temple reconstruction, which had failed to create majority vote
banks earlier. In this case religion is sought to be used as a cementing factor
for the majority community.
The above analysis also holds good when political parties try to create
‘minority vote banks’ by using religion and pointing out threat to the
minorities from majority religious groups.
This model has also been applied at the regional level. In Maharashtra, the

Sangolda… under the axe?

Sangolda is a scenic village in Bardez, probably equidistant from both
state-capital Panjim and the commercial town of Mapusa. For long, like
other parts of the 'Old Conquests' (the longer-held Portuguese former
colonies), many in this village have been migrating far and wide
(including globally) to earn a living. But now, with Goa becoming a
hot centre for real-estate speculation and second- or third-homes for
the affluent, there are pressures on this land too.

Says Goa's just-out Draft Regional Plan for Goa-2021: Then there are
the 'second homes' which are much in demand by people from other parts
of India, that are filling up the landscape of Goa. Most of these
apartments and houses are left unoccupied for much of the year. This
is deeply resented by the local population — and the Task-Force
recommends some disincentives that can be considered. As for instance,
a higher tax on housing held by non-residents levied by the local
panchayat for, say, the first five years.)

Here's a rustic shot of the Sangolda-Guirim area taken a few (maybe
3-4) years ago, during a morning walk. It's still rustic in parts, but
the pressures are visible:

More on the setting here:

Over the past fortnight, there were signs of rebuilding going on in
parts of the village.

House renovation is a notorious clause (or, loophole) in the Goa
building laws, which allows someone to take over an old home, build a
concrete monstrosity in its place, and claim that the home is being
renovated or redone!

This is from just alongside the CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of
Government Meeting Retreat, 1983) road:

And here's another old house which is under the axe. (I used to pass
by it almost daily, and read the legend DFVD D'Souza, 1907″, if I
recall right. One can only imagine the work, toil, sweat, tears and
heartburn, apart from stories of Goan out-migration, that had gone
into building these homes, generations ago):

Incidentally, the fields at Sangolda, not too long ago (maybe a decade
back), used to be held up as a show-piece of Goa's successful
agricultural policies. As (younger) journalists, were were shown the
progressive farmers in the area, and how their work was yielding
rich crops. Today, these very places have become spots for the
wholesale sale of field-well water … to cope with the tourism,
real-estate, industrial and unsustainable hilltop housing booms that
Goa is seeing.

Below photo, close to Sangolda, on the Guirim-Saligao end.

And another one of scenic fields, a Goa many fear we would lose in the
rush to money, money and GDP.

I often wonder what makes some Goan villages more succesptible than
others when it comes to succumbing to the building boom. Is it
land-ownership patterns and bhadkarism-munkarism (landlord-tenant)
tussles? Is it a corrupt panchayat (village council, waiting to be
sold out to the highest bidder)? Is it the mind of the builders and
the politicians? (One can't forget the role of a Parulekar in siting
an industrial estate on a hillock of his constituency, on very
questionable grounds, even while officials and specialists apparently
didn't successfully question such an approach.)

As the above-cited Draft Regional Paln for Goa 2021 says, There are
20 industrial estates in the State — many of which raise critical
issues in regard to siting, infrastructure availability, and the
unfortunate mismatch between local skills and jobs available, etc.
RP-2021 seeks to rectify the situation by generating appropriate jobs
where they are most needed. Firstly, the process of allocation of
plots at industrial estates should be extremely transparent and should
follow the policies established by the State. The current method
leaves much to be desired….

Just some random thoughts generated by a couple of photos (taken above)….

[Goanet] An open letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka

2008-09-26 Thread pratap naik
From: ambrose pinto [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: 2008/9/19

Dear Friends,

I am sending to you an open letter the college has sent signed by
75 of its teaching staff to the Chief Minister of Karnataka

Ambrose Pinto SJ

   18th September 2008

An Open Letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka from St. Joseph's College,
Bangalore

Dear Sir,

We write to you as members of the Staff of St. Joseph's College and as
secular citizens of the state of Karnataka deeply distressed by the recent
attacks on educational institutions and churches in Mangalore and elsewhere in
Karnataka. We are a college of 126 years, the very first private college of the
city with a rich legacy of educating generations of students of different
faiths in the ideals of democracy and secularism. Thousands of citizens in the
state owe their education into secularism to this college where students have
lived and learned as members of one human family. We are also aware of your
high esteem for the college. It is due to that high regard for the institution
that you had admitted your son here and he had successfully passed out from the
portals of the college.

Our contributions to the nation goes right back in time, to those dark
and frightful years of British imperialism. We as an institution, perhaps the
only one in the state, have participated in the freedom struggle of the
country. The college had protested against British colonialism, raising the
National Tricolor as a banner of national revolt on our premises against the
British Raj. Our students were hunted and jailed by British Police for
participating in the Quit India movement. The names of Ratnakar Rai and
Kripakaran are synonymous with the early struggles while Deendayalu Naidu and
P.S. Sundaram Reddy were with the Quit India movement.  Several of our students
were tortured and repressed in these jails for their struggles for the freedom
of the country. Fr. Ferroli, the Warden was interned in the jail in Whitfield.
and Fr. Boniface D' Souza was the person who prevented the police from taking
students into custody during the last phase
of the freedom struggle. That spirit of secularism and nationalism still
exists in this campus and we have not deviated from that.  It is this love for
the nation that prompts and urges us to write to you.

Over the years, we have educated a variety of students, pundits,
scientists, activists, journalists, technocrats, bureaucrats, politicians,
businessmen, sportspersons and women primarily from the state of Karnataka
though there have been students from outside the state and the country. We have
never imposed a world-view of our own on the students. Instead we have
encouraged critical thinking and learning.  Freedom of thought and expression
has always characterized education in St. Joseph's.  We can claim with
tremendous pride that we have produced stimulating intellectuals, prominent
change-makers at the grass root level and provided able administrators to the
nation and particularly to the State of Karnataka. M. P. Ghorpade, Kumara
Bangarappa, M.P. Prakash, Bachche Gowda, Narayanaswamy, Allum Veerabhadarappa
and a host of bureaucrats are all our former students. Many of our former
students work in different fields of life as innovators and
policy-framers.  Moreover we have enhanced our services these many years to
foster the needs and desires of the marginalized. We continue to admit and
provide educational opportunities to a wide community of educationally and
socially backward classes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.  We have thus
produced sensitive and learned leaders among the Dalit and backward
communities. We are extremely proud of students from subaltern communities who
have turned into agents of radical social change.  Our credentials as a secular
and progressive institution concerned about the well-being of all is a truth
well known to all.

St. Joseph's College belongs to no party. But we remain concerned
with what is taking place in the state. Inculcating social awareness and
increasing social concern is one of the main thrusts of the college. As an
educational institution with high moral and ethical credentials, we are
concerned about the divisive politics that polarizes people on the basis of
religion. Your party has come to power on the plank of development. You have
also celebrated with great pride your hundred days in power claiming that
nearly 90% of your development manifesto has been fulfilled. We may have
different view of that but we will not debate that here. What disturbs us is
the mean claim that your party and your cadres make that Christian institutions
are involved in forced conversion just to defame and malign. Every citizen in
this country has been given the right to practice, profess and propagate one's

[Goanet] Open letter to Goanet and other Goan related websites

2008-09-26 Thread ralph rau

Cornel DaCosta seems to be distressed that his deserving and enlightening posts
have not seen the light of day on Goanet.

To be honest I too have suspected Fred Noronha of being an arbitrary and high
handed editor of goanet. But I have neither the time nor the inclination to
offer myself for this honorary post.

Maybe the moderators need to offer the editor's post to Cornel DaCosta for a
term. I hope Cornel volunteers or else forever holds his peace.

[Goanet] India's Forex Reserves $ 300 Bil - Reserves is a grossly misleading term

2008-09-26 Thread ralph rau
With the unending US Financial Hurricane season (Hurricane Bear Sterns, Fannie,
Hurricane Freddie, Hurricane Lehman...AIG...WAMU...and Hurricane Credit Card
Default season to follow) the Indian economy is not exactly rocking as it was
this time last year. Goa's tourism is also poised to take a hit from the global
downturn and its worth taking a look at how comfortable India's foreign
currency balance is.

The RBI website has interesting data:

http://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/Publications/PDFs/85765.pdf

The RBI term Forex Reserves is usually thought to mean net
of Liabilities. This is not the case and the word Reserves
ought to be replaced by the correct term Assets.

Forex Reserves (Assets) have slipped since Q1 highs to $
289.5 Bil (12-Sep-08)

Foreign Debt (Liabilities) $ 221.2 bil (31-Mar-08) was up
$51.5 Bil since 31-Mar-07

See table on page 5 of the report - Over 17 years the
cumulative Current Account remained firmly negative -$52.4 Billion

In fact the most recent years Current account shows
consistent negative nos

2004-05 -ve $ 5.4 Bil
2005-06 -ve $ 10.6 Bil
2006-07 -ve $ 9.8 Bil
2007-08 -ve $ 17.4 Bil

Invisibles incl Software exports Inward remittances
(NRIs?) brought in $40Bil each in 07-08

When the US fin earthquake began rolling last week (its far
from ending?) RBI ordered Indian banks to increase FCNR
deposit rates by 50bps.

Besides Software Remittancs, FDI and FII have also been key drivers behind
INR strength till 2007. They have headed for the door in Q2-08.

As India's demands for Capital Infrastructure
Goods (including Aircraft and Business acquisitions like
Corus Jaguar) increases the Foreign Debt figure will
continue to rise.

With imports growing faster than exports Rupee devaluation
was desperately needed and achieved (-18% versus USD)

With banks in trouble and a recession in US/Europe software
exports may be in trouble. Oil price declines are
desperately needed by India.(Petroleum related net outflows
were $54.7 Bil in 07-08)

We must hope that Foreign Investors will find that, deep
rooted government corruption notwithstanding, Indian
investment offers superior returns.(though there are some
economists who believe that growth with the distortion of
chronic corruption is not sustainable). The Indian household
consumption credit market after all has a very long way to
go before reaching the bubble levels of the US.

Risk has always been encouraged by the US Fed cheap credit
policy. Imagine interest rates @ 1-2% in a highly leveraged
economy with steeply negative household capital formation.
Time will tell whether an inflation focussed ECB (and RBI) is right to
keep money expensive. Whether its better to have higher
unemployment than a worth-less currency of a
banana republic that consumes far far more than it produces.

Santosh Helekar asked:

1. How many Goanet moderators are there, and what are their names?

Answer:
http://www.goanet.org/modules.php?op=modloadname=Newsfile=articlesid=9
Herman Carneiro, Boston, MA, USA
Frederick FN Noronha, Goa, India
Viviana Coelho, San Francisco, CA, USA
Bosco D'Mello, Toronto, Canada

In descending order of knowledge of Goa, Goans and Konkani:
Frederick FN Noronha, Goa, India
Bosco D'Mello, Toronto, Canada
Herman Carneiro, Boston, MA, USA
Viviana Coelho, San Francisco, CA, USA

Herman has moderated nothing for many years.
Viviana moderates once in a way. Just to show she is around and in a
powerful position. She knows precious zilch about real life in Goa.
Bosco does most of the work and is King.
But it is Frederick who is God and steers everything exactly the way
he wants it. Don't believe any crap he gives about not bening involved
with GoaNet moderation.

---

2. How are the moderator duties divided between them?

Answer:
A hot potato posting is bounced between them till someone decides to
take responsibility. Bosco and Viviana may be flawed in their
moderation (who isn't?) but mostly have the decency to sign their
names to a rejection. If you see an anonymous rejection it is
Frederick's work. Sometimes a hot potato just disappears, thanks to
Frederick, without any other moderator knowing what happened. I have
often offered my considerable Net expertise for free as a moderator
but been refused. They ask for volunteers often but only for the
'junior' positions. Frederick love power and is not willing to give up
what he has built over so many years. I don't blame him. Only wish he
would be open about his actions.

3. Are all Goanet members placed on moderation, or are there some
whose messages are allowed to show up on Goanet unmoderated?

Answer:
There are a few who are in unmoderated mode. It is none of your
business to know who and why.

--

4. Does the history of a poster on Goanet determine how closely
his/her posts are screened?

Answer:
Is the Pope Catholic?

-

5. What is done to ensure that there is no ideological bias in
rejection or acceptance of posts e.g. supporters of BJP vs Congress vs
Marxist party, Christian viewpoint vs Hindu viewpoint, etc?

Answer:
Fortunately Frederick is pretty balanced in his views so he gives a
pretty even playing field. It is only when his personal interests are
at stake that he comes down strong.

-

6. Can the actual reason for rejection be stated more clearly, and the
name of the person who moderated the post be provided, each time a
post is rejected?

Answer:
No. That would expose Frederick.

--

As Frederick has said time and again, if you feel you have a better
model then feel free to start a new Goa Cyber Group yourself.
Frederick made Goanet what it is through sheer dint of hard work. He
deserves to control it any way he chooses.

Cheers!

Cecil

Mario responds:

Folks, as a general rule, I never have a problem with a recommendation if the
person is following his or her own recommendations.  That's the only true test
of whether someone is serious about their recommendations.  If they are not,
then they're simply bloviating and their recommendations are meaningless.

In a previous life I was responsible for a $100 million corporate pension
fund.  The only managers we hired to manage our funds were those who could show
us that they had become millionaires from investing their own money.  These are
hard to find but they're out there.  The theory was, If you haven't made
yourself rich from your investing skills, why should I believe you will make a
lot of money for us?  This cuts through all the fancy presentations and tap
dancing that pension fund managers can put together.

Mervyn has previously told us that anyone taking a recommendation by him on
Goanet deserves their fate:-))  So he has already warned everyone:-))

However, I must say that finally, after several tries, Mervyn has listed some
recognizeable, albeit selective, facts, as well as some unrecognizeable ones,
and, as usual, without much context or perspective.  Thankfully, he has given
up the absurd comparisons with the USSR and the Weimar Republic, though he is
still peddling his comical assertion that Bill Clinton had successfully and
singlehandedly managed the economy during his watch.  In the US economic
system there is very little the President can do on his own.  He doesn't even
have day to day control of the money supply which is the responsibility of
the independent Federal Reserve Bank.

To say the US Treasury is now broke seems to show an ignorance of the fact
that the US Treasury has been in a debt position for decades, underwritten by
the size of its considerable assets and GDP.  The reason the US dollar has been
the lead currency for decades is because the US has always had a strong and
growing economy and has always been considered a safe place to invest for
investors from all over the world.  The US GDP is at all time highs, and even
the larger projected deficits are at normal levels when related to the US GDP
at around 3%.  As any rational observer would know, it has hardly been business
as usual for the US since 9/11.

When Clinton left office the US economy and the Dow were both declining.
Subsequently the Dow recovered and reached a high above 14,000, then declined
due to the currrent financial crisis caused by inappropriate real estate
lending practices by the banking industry, encouraged by some left wing
politicians who wanted low income Americans to be able to own their own homes.
The crisis is being addressed and will be corrected.

The increase in the money supply does not always lead to inflation if it is
offset by productivity increases.  The US inflation rate if averaged over
several months is far below that of many industrial economies.

The two US presidential candidates have sharply opposing views of how to run
the US economy.  Barack Obama is a virtual socialist, where John McCain is a
virtual capitalist.

Mario,
I am a bit surprised that my observation elicited the observation, shallow
and grossly misleading and totally out of context. Unless you are saying
that rich people have to be rewarded through a variety of techniques that
should never be addressed as socialism for the rich, but perhaps just
rewards for their initiatives in generating wealth, and in offering people
like me a job. You also quote some valuable statistics, all very true
indeed. Yes it well may be 97% or even more, but what would that 97% entail
if the upper 50% were paid what they really owed. I know I do not control
that but can include this as a relevant point. That mite in the form of
income taxes from the upper 50% would be an astronomical 97% then.

A bailout is also maintaining business as usual. But what do paintbrushes
like me know?

Anyway Mario, You have finally made your self amply clear to me. Someday you
just may see things differently. I am always very hopeful, since you are a
sharp individual. But thinking again, its better to just listen in on your
comments, rather than even briefly commenting as I do with some other
topics. No point in me interjecting in an area you have probably thrived in,
and see very differently.

Perhaps this too is out of context, but I will say it. A while ago a person
who I esteem made a point to me that I should concentrate more on my
personal work, rather than engage on Goanet — which is any case I do quite
sparingly and that too on issues which are far from finance and economics.
Its time to take his advice. Considering what I just said abouve, this is my
last post on this topic.

Keep thriving.

They either go out of business or are acquired by other companies at a

Re: [Goanet] Open letter to Goanet and other Goan related websites

2008-09-26 Thread Eddie Fernandes
Folks,

The discussion about GoaNet moderation has come as no surprise but the
acrimony it has generated causes me concern. There are valid arguments on
all sides, each person giving vent to their despair of what they see as
requisites to improving the GoaNet service. There are no villains on the
stage only Heroes and Heroines!

As I see it, the discussion is basically about two ends of the spectrum. FN
and the rest of the admin team is concerned about the number of members to
join GoaNet and leave soon afterwards. He prefers the GoaNet digest version,
posts in plain text and would like the number of contributors increased.
Cornel would like to see less moderation and more messages.

There is no reason why we should have to choose between one and the other.
GoaNet had not changed much since its inception and is still essentially an
email based service for contributors. Many other discussion lists have
turned into web-based services and there are many advantages of going down
that path. Now that broadband and fast internet speeds are here, the old
arguments about cost are no longer valid. The main advantage would be to
split the discussion list into threads and give readers the option of
subscribing to all discussions or only those threads that interest them.

One of the current problems is that it is impossible to find previous posts
on a subject such as recommended restaurants, internet connections, recent
books etc. Also, some discussions on topics like sports, employment, village
nets have been moved to separate lists. There is no reason why they cannot
have separate threads in GoaNet. One keyword search, say on fishing or
restaurant* would bring together discussion on that topic.

To provide specific examples how this would work, take a look as some
Goa-related wed-based discussion lists:

1. British Expats.com.
http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=6773bb87d7adda768edac61914
c9ec70f=94
Discussion on topics such as Hiring a Car in Goa; Medical care in Goa; Where
Do You Buy Your Diamonds in Goa

2. Holiday Truths.com. http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=60
Topics such as Malaria; Restaurants; Wifi

3. India Mike. http://www.indiamike.com/india/goa-f23/ Threads such as
Sim/Phone cards; Motorbike Rental; Dentists in Goa.

If GoaNet switches to a web-based service, readers will be able to select
the threads that interest them, messages by email would be reduced,
searching for information will be efficient and posting in plain text would
not be compulsory

And as less moderation would be required, let there be Peace!

[Goanet] A major crises in the Church - article by George

2008-09-26 Thread Jerry Fernandes
Dears.

So what is exactly happening?

Is it easy to convert people by buying them into christianity for few rupees?
Are they willing to forgo centuries old customs of their forefathers just for
few rupees? What about other benefits that they get being from lower caste
system like jobs, entrance to educational systems, where even the some with
money wont get, on their sc/st certificates? Wont they forgo this opportunity
by changing their faith? Something to think about.

And if this is really true, that as people switch their alliance to parties at
the time of election, they are willing to switch their alliance for religion
for few rupees, than what are the filty rich Hindus doing? I bet they can buy
the entire other religon communities into their fold. Isnt it?

Foolish assumptions, but that is what we are being fed in the news for the last
few days, by many and along with them is our very Goan from Bicholim Salvi.

For years there have been many Hindus who have been visiting Milagres church in
Mapuca and praying there with no problems and no conversion. Same has been
happening at Mahim for Novenas on Wednesdays. As to what I have heard, even in
Madras at Valankani, Thousands of Hindus visit and pray, and no conversion, so
what is this? Since when did Hindus change their attitude that they go on
massive distruction of minorities? Why this sudden fear?

Certainly as Agnelo and Marshall say, its a hidden agenda of the political
parties and nothing to do with religion.

Cheers

Hi Marshall,

That indeed was a thought provoking and brain shaking article

I still firmly believe that all this is not a religious agenda. I don't think
any average Hindu gives a two hoot about conversions than any one of us does
about catholic girls marrying guys from other religions. This is just a
political game for the politicians, and the Hindu fundamentalist organizations,
who have full support and backing of these slimy leaders, brain wash the lower
class Hindus, who act as puppets in the hands of these politicians, who have no
care nor reverence for human lives as long as they see power and position
coming their way.

Conversion is just an excuse to blind and bind the majority community for their
own personal agendas power and position at any cost, and unfortunately we
have
become the fall guys and have to pay the price for their acrimonious ambitions.
As rightly stated in the article, we as a community have failed to unite and
produce consensus leaders to take up our cause at the top. As it is also said
that Rome burnt while Nero played his harp, we keep on fighting within our
selves in trying to upstage each other while our brethren burn in Orissa and
else where.

Now every one is trying to assess the damage done and do damage control, What
was done to avoid this carnage in the first place, as stated, these atrocities
were going on since independence and now it seems to have exploded and looks
like the worst is yet to come. As stated, no one can guarantee that this will
not happen again. When and where will it all end ? Even in damage control what
have the Authorities done to apprehend the culprits ? It's a proven fact that
the RSS and the Bajrangdal were the Hitlers in act, why are the leaders of
these
terrorist organizations still not charge sheeted, are they any different from
the other terrorists who are linked to SIMI and their likes ? Why is the
centre
so soft on this issue ? Is it because the Catholic community does retaliate or
our religion is against violence ? Which religion supports violence, non for
that matter so why Hindus against Muslims and Christians and Muslims against
Hindus, for what purpose ? To me it's just one answer POLITICS nothing else.

As of now it's high time our Christian leaders unite and work out ways to keep
their respective flocks updated and ready for any eventuality with gathered
info
and intelligence and avail it to all the respective leaders so that we react
before, to avoid a situation, rather than react later, to do damage control.

As also stated in the article, we certainly are in need of good genuine and
powerful Catholic leaders in politics to take up our causes, be it local or be
it central the more the better. As further stated in the article, we are
certainly paying a heavy price for our blind faith in the Congress Party. We
have not

Re: [Goanet] Open letter to Goanet and other Goan related websites

2008-09-26 Thread Frederick [FN] Noronha * फ्रेडरिक नोरोन्या
Eddie, as I understood Dr Cornel's angry allegations, it's not about
quantum of posts... but rather systemic bias. These are two different
issues, and, as such, has nothing to do with the solution you're
proposing below. What you say might make technical sense, but that is
entirely another issue.

As for myself, I don't see Dr Cornel as being on track for the reasons
outlined here: [http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NewDiaspora/message/5855]
If others feel otherwise, it is an issue which can, and should, be
debated. FN

PS: Sorry for attaching the entire earlier message, just so that the
nuances of the argument are not lost.

2008/9/27 Eddie Fernandes [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 1. British Expats.com.
 http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=6773bb87d7adda768edac61914
 c9ec70f=94
Discussion on topics such as Hiring a Car in Goa; Medical care in Goa; Where
Do You Buy Your Diamonds in Goa

 2. Holiday Truths.com. http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=60
Topics such as Malaria; Restaurants; Wifi

 3. India Mike. http://www.indiamike.com/india/goa-f23/ Threads such as
Sim/Phone cards; Motorbike Rental; Dentists in Goa.

If GoaNet switches to a web-based service, readers will be able to select
the threads that interest them, messages by email would be reduced,
searching for information will be efficient and posting in plain text would
 not be compulsory

And as less moderation would be required, let there be Peace!

 Eddie Fernandes

Sure, agreed! I'd like to see African, Latino, East European and Far
Eastern perspectives on Goa too. Never happens. Why? Are our minds
colonised, and are we willing to go along with dominant global
perspectives on these issues?

Now that the US is sinking into being a Third World country, will they
come to Asia, Africa and Latin America for perspectives on how to cope
with underdevelopment, restructuring by the World Banks, etc?

What about the perspectives of the 5 out of 6 billion people on the
planet who cannot afford to be tourists outside their own countries?

[Goanet] Goa and Aviation

2008-09-26 Thread Philip Thomas

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) held its first
management development program (MDP) in Aviation Management this week. I was
invited by the coordinator, Prof G. Raghuram a transportation authority, who
holds the Indian Railways chair at IIMA (and who wrote a path-breaking
management case on Konkan Railway Corp), to share my perpspective on Goa's
aviation scene with the participants during one session.

The participants numbered almost 40 and were drawn from airports, airlines
and companies operating in the sector. Some international airlines were also
represented. My presentation was on Indian aviation's civilian-military
interface. It ended by drawing attention to the problem of implementing a
two airport solution (an upgraded Dabolim civil enclave as well as a
greenfield airport in Mopa) in Goa.

I was glad to have an opportunity of meeting a number of interesting
participants especially over a group dinner that evening. There was
Frederick Joseph Vaz of NACIL who was very familiar with Goanet. He hoped
Goans would get involved constructively in aviation matters. Uday Bhan Singh
is the Manager of Kingfisher Airlines sales in Goa. He has been involved
with Goa since 1995. Harish Kutty of Air Arabia said they have clearance to
operate at Dabolim from 2009. He would like to expedite the start if
possible.

There was a large contingent of AAI airport directors from various places
including some who had left to join privatised airports. The former
appreciated the truth of my hard hitting remarks and said they were
broadly applicable to the nearly 30 civil enclaves in India. One of the
observers present at the instance of the co-ordinator was a participant from
another IIMA MDP, Vineet Sharma, who worked in the Coast Guard in Goa and
his wife his Goan.

Among the IIMA faculty in the program there was Prof Sebastian Morris, an
economist, who is on the recently appointed Policy Advisory Group of the Goa
government. He will be in Goa in this connection on Oct 3. Meanwhile, in an
informal chat afterwards, Prof Raghuram assured me that he would take up the
points I made, in the Civil Aviation Ministry's committee on airline
finances, of which he is a member.

All in all it was a very gratifying experience for me personally. I am sure
that Goa's aviation experience will now provide a lot of food for thought in
national circles for years to come. It's up to the people of Goa to give it
the shape required, as and when possible, for the state's benefit, in the
national and global context.

Dear Bernice,

Which specific Net group [Yahoogroups, googlegroups or otherwise] are you

Currently, Frederick Noronha is supposed to be a sleeping Moderator on

any other group where Frederick is a Moderator?

I am NOT disputing your opinion. I am just clarifying the reference.
