Dear Bonifacio, Please stop your guess work and your fanciful imagination. You dont use your children to settle political scores, and that too at the cost of your daughters status in society. A mother would dare not even think of spoiling the life of her daughter by making these allegations which you think may be just a bigger game plan to silence the heavy weights. The problem with the kith n kin of politicians is that, They think they can get away with anything and everything just because they have the right connections. . Do you think you and me will be spared or would not our families be harassed. Nothing of that sort happens with your heavy weight families. And you can see that even today Rohit is not apprehended. Do you think he will be murdered by the police? He can very well show up if he is innocent. Sex on a minor, however consensual, is rape. [Goanet] Goa rape case: Anti-Rodrigues ad published in local daily
Goa rape case: Anti-Rodrigues ad published in local daily Panaji (PTI): The German rape case has spilled over into the media advertisement space with an anti-Aires Rodrigues advertisement being published in the local daily signed by 390 people. Rodrigues, who is a lawyer of the German mother, who has accused son and nephew of two Goa ministers of raping her daughter, has said that the advertisement is a handiwork of Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Churchill Alemao. Many of the signatories in the advertisement are bogus. This is a handiwork of Alemao trying to divert attention of people from the rape case, Rodrigues told reporters in Panaji this afternoon. The advertisement released in local English Daily O Herald accuses Rodrigues, who is also a social activist, of blackmailing people in the guise of activism. It has also commented on the personal life of Rodrigues accusing him of bigamy. However, Alemao, talking to PTI, refused his hand in the advertisement alleging that Rodrigues is unnecessarily roping him into the controversy. Media is unnecessarily creating the controversy. My name does not appear in the advertisement so why to accuse me? Alemao questioned. The PWD Minister also claimed that the advertisement was a spontaneous outburst against Rodrigues. Aires is unnecessarily running a vendetta against my family, he added. Rodrigues is also a convenor of Utt Goenkara, a local NGO, which has taken up crusade against state Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte. Despite Court directives not to disclose the name of victim or her parents, the advertisement also mentions the name of the German lady. The ad incidentally is in violation of the Children's Court directive which asked the media and the police to refrain from using the names of victim and her mother or any other information which could lead to identifying the victim. Rodrigues said that Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has miserably failed to control his cabinet members like Monserratte and Alemao, who are now all out to use their tactics against those fighting for justice. Alemao has been at loggerheads with Rodrigues, after the lawyer claimed that Alemao's nephew Warren had also raped the minor German girl. http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/000200810281511.htm ~(^^)~ Avelino

[Goanet] NRI briefs
Financial Mess WASHINGTON - Neel Kashkari, the man charged with launching the US government's unprecedented $700 billion bank rescue, knows a thing or two about getting complex apparatus off the ground. After all, he could be considered a former rocket scientist. Before he went to work in high finance, the former Goldman Sachs investment banker worked in research and development at TRW Inc, a contractor for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, designing parts for a space telescope. ** LONDON - Days after enforcing stricter rules for grant of business travel visa, Britain plans to further tighten immigration rules by drastically reducing the number of migrants. The proposed tougher immigration laws was announced by new immigration minister Phil Woolas and may come amid fears that the economic downturn could raise risk of unemployment. Indicating a shift in the government policy, Woolas said: “If people are being made unemployed, the question of immigration becomes extremely thorny. It’s been too easy to get into this country in the past and it’s going to get harder.” ** WASHINGTON - Ashwin Madia, a 30-year-old attorney and Iraq war veteran, is bidding to become only the third person of Indian descent to be elected to the US Congress. And the newcomer appears to have a good shot though the race is tight and the campaign has turned nasty. Madia, a Democrat, is running against Republican Erik Paulsen, who has been a state Representative for 14 years, and Independence Party candidate David Dillon in Minnesota’s 3rd District. He leads Paulsen 46 per cent to 43 in the latest poll after trailing by three points earlier. Madia’s is a typical immigrant story. His microbiologist father and physical therapist mother came to America from Mumbai with $19. “They wanted a better life for their children,” he says. He was born in Boston, but the family eventually settled in Plymouth, a suburb of Minneapolis. After attending high school there, Madia went to the University of Minnesota and the New York University School of Law. ** NEW YORK - An India-born man, who accused two New York City police officers of assaulting him, has been awarded US$ 20,000 in compensation by a federal jury, which held the officers guilty of violating his civil rights. The man had also accused the officers of racial abuse. A Brooklyn federal jury found that two police officers from the Queens are guilty of excessive force for hitting a man in the groin with a flashlight repeatedly, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported. Harwinder Vilkhu, 36, said the officers had grabbed him by the collar while he was sitting outside the York College Performing Arts Centre and hit him in the groin and stomach with a flashlight when he asked their names and the reason they were mistreating him.** LONDON - An Indo-Brit hair specialist accused of groping women while giving them head massages has been jailed for three years in Britain. The Reading crown court also banned Praminder Mankoo for life from giving treatment without a witness present. He will also have to sign on to the Sex Offenders' List indefinitely. Mankoo had been charged with lewd acts with his clients on Sep 14. Mankoo ran a successful clinic in Thame, Oxfordshire. The instances of his lewd acts occurred between 2003 and 2007, but three of his victims came forward only recently to nail him. ** MISSISAUGA - After a lengthy investigation, officers from the Fraud Bureau have raided three Mississauga-area warehouses, in what has been described by industry experts as the largest seizure of counterfeit goods in Canadian history. On Thursday, July 31, 2008, a series of search warrants were executed at Thamesgate Drive warehouses, resulting in the seizure of over 25,000 pieces of counterfeit merchandise. These items are estimated to have a street value of over $10,000,000. The fraudulent labels included designers such Gucci, Channel, Prada, Burberry, Juicy Couture, Coach, Dolce Gabana, Armani, Louie Vouiton, Harley Davidson and Diesel. ** LONDON - An Indian-origin landlady in Oxford has been fined 2,500 pounds because of the filthy and dangerous state of a house she was letting out to her tenants. Joginder Kaur Dhanjal at the Oxford Magistrates' Court admitted to five charges levelled against her relating to safety and hygiene at the shared house she owns in Donnington Bridge Road. The city council environmental health officers found several health and safety breaches in Dhanjal's house during a visit. Oven and surfaces in the shared kitchen were in a filthy state and officers discovered that tenants had even no access to the gas supply. ** TORONTO - With

What you were proposing was that some new central government department be set up to make decisions on the ugly developments springing up across Goa, when the decisions were already being made by some existing central government department. You, from far-away Blighty, wanted to take away local control as represented by the Village Panchayats and Gram Sabhas, which you said were corrupt, when, in fact, as local activists like Wendell had told us, they were far more subject to the influence of local residents than some nameless, faceless, money-grubbing bureaucrats in some central government department. The lovely and gracious and allegedly frail Venita may not have been a danger to flies, but she must have given the human authorities some probable cause to arrest her. Let the system play out and we will soon find out what the real problem was.

[Goanet] Goa's Goonda List
I need to ask: What kind of democracy prevails in a country that has no laws to prevent individuals who are on a police goonda list from becoming ministers? I salute the courage of the police officer who compiled the goonda list in Goa. I request JoeGoaUK to publish the Goonda List on Goanet for all to see. Let me just enumerate below the kinds of cheap political tactics he has used to malign me: 1. After initially falsely claiming that I had applauded some partisan writers who are not members of Goanet, now he is blaming me for not criticizing their writings. Any reasonable person would note that it is pointless to respond to writers who cannot defend themselves in this forum. It suffices for one to point out that they have a partisan bias, as I did with regard to Gurumurthy article, and as others did with regard to Gautier et al. 2. He faults me for suggesting that there are only some examples (not all) of partisan propaganda and rumor mongering on his part. I have provided examples that I happened to read. To any impartial person, it should be obvious that it is too much to expect somebody to read all his more than 30 or so recycled reports from the news media and partisan websites. 3. He denies that the bogus story of the nun can be termed as a rumor, and blames me for calling it that. 4. After using the words sick and prejudiced to possibly describe my mind, he blames me for not noting some commas that he used. 5. He lifts a statement of mine referring to Mario Goveia's observation, and falsely suggests that I was referring to Gurumurthy's article, asking me the following question, laced with innuendo: Could Santosh kindly enlighten us on the historical evidence that he saw? We too would like to be enlightened. And now he denies that he found the article credible. He would make a skilful politician indeed!!! 6. After asking me to post examples of partisan propaganda and rumor mongering on his part, he now accuses me of cherry picking because I called his bluff and provided a few examples. Cheers, Santosh

However, when it comes to the anti-American propaganda being posted by a small number of determined and persistent Goanetters, many of whom do not even live in the US yet pretend a knowledge of the US that is clearly bogus, where I clearly see the falsehoods, I am obviously inclined to post a correction. I think this post of yours when read by Goans will provide hours of light entertainment, especially to those Goans in outer Mongolia, who may ordinarily be denied good entertainment but would still be better informed than those residing in Republican USA. Now, short of me drawing a picture for you, follow the trail of incidents here. A corrupt panchayat and possibly a corrupt section of the gram sabha was instrumental in denying Venita her right to free speech. Not only at the meeting itself, but moreso they demanded she retract what she had written in a weekly column, thereby denying her the right to free speech altogether. You see, it is not beyond the realm of human nature to be corruptible, be they in political offices or village councils such as gram sabhas. Corruption and greed are endemic and all pervasive in human society. It is naive of Goans to think that Goa is made up of us and them, or the virtuous and the corrupt. Goa is made of people with conflicting interests, and at every point these divergent interests will rear their ugly head and give vent. Gram sabhas as as vulnerable to divergent interests and partisan agendas as any other political body in Goa. Selma

Mario responds: Fred, a) I cannot remember a single post that I have initiated about the USA. Why would I set up Goanet-USA when the series of falsehoods I am forced to respond to are being posted on Goanet by a small cabal of determined and persistent and obviously anti-American posters? b) Regarding your boredom, I was not aware we posters are supposed to entertain you. c) Regarding reader's patience, where is it written that Goanetters are supposed to read and analyse every post? d) Where does this notion come from that, instead of ignoring a post that is not of interest, which most of us do on a daily basis, there are a few Goanetters who try to impose their will on everyone else by criticizing what other posters are obviously interested in?

[Goanet] Goa rape case: Anti-Rodrigues ad published in local daily Thanks Avelino, There were only two papers today and yet I missed it. (no issues of other two due to Divali holiday yesterday) How could I? It was half a page add and must have cost the advertiser atlest Rs.50,000 390 names listed as signatories, most of them were from Varca, Agassaim, Orlim, Carmona,Verna and Margao. There were 5 from Davorlim and only one from Benaulim, that all maked 390. And yes, there was a mention of the Victim and her mother. It says... Why does Aires not act against the night clubs where the fourteen year old daughter of his protegee F* F* is depicting romping with older males. If this amounts to contempt of court, then the newspaper Herald should also be sued for contempt of court. They should be knowing more than banybody else. It seems newspaper now a day do anything for money. During the last elections, almost all corrupt MLAs/politicians depicted as saints on newspaper - and all this for a huge money. [Goanet] Goenkars; Financial update.
We have seen huge gyrations in the stock markets; don't be fooled into thinking that we have seen the bottom...there is still so much muck out there. Just contemplate a house in USA sold at a depressed price of 88K two years ago then resold at 33k and the person cannot meet the payments! USA is in deep, deep pooh, now the Bank wants to get rid of it at 5K. Cheap though it be, there are no jobs to sustain one in places like Detroit, Toledo, Cincinatti and Good Years' home town. The only jobs secure are health care, established Doctors, insolvency Lawyers and the like. So hold on to your money, cash it King. Even if the market stops falling all you will rely on is diminished dividends. I would advise Goans/Indians to hold money in Govt. owned Banks...the bigger the better like State Bank of India, Bank of India, Baroda, IOB and the like. October is a bad month for markets, Nov. Dec. if we don't show good gains then stay away. Lock your money in for 1,2,3 years at the high interest rates now available, unless you need it, in any case do not lock your whole amount, keep some for emergencies. Interest rates World wide are about to be enginnered down. All those who take my advice, you owe me a beer in Margao! Take care and happy hunting, God bless. -- DEV BOREM KORUM. Gabe Menezes. London.

Frank DCruz [EMAIL PROTECTED] I cant believe this! THE SO CALLED EDUCATION MINISTER IN GOA DOES NOT EVEN HAVE AN SSC CERTIFICATE,? GOD HELP US ALL Mario responds: Frank, believe this! However, I hope for the sake of your general health that you, Aires, Anthony and Edward are only planning to challenge Babush from a safe distance, perhaps with the safety of the Internet between you:-)) Even God may have a hard time helping one or all of you if you challenge him in person, where even angels fear to tread:-)) Perhaps you were also not aware that Babush has a double Ph.D. in Dadagiri and Chalupanthi. And here you guys are braying about a mere SSC certificate. Who the heck needs an SSC certificate if you can figure out how to become a crorepatti several times over and have two Ph.D.s from the University of Hard Knocks without wasting time earning an SSC certificate? You don't seem to grasp that this Education Minister business is only a pass-time for Babush. His main profession is making money, preferably by being the Minister of Development. Unfortunately, that post got him into some hot soup. But Babush is a crorepati several times over. He is even richer than any self-aggrandizing gold traders on Goanet:-)) So, Babush decided to become Education Minister to educate Goans in how to become wealthy like him without wasting their time in running after some cheap SSC certificate:-)) He can now give away SSC certificates if he wanted to, fo a small fee:-)) Instead of being pleased for the opportunity to learn what is really the goal of most educated people, here you all come, all hot and flustered, nagging him about some SSC certificate:-)) You think he is bothered? I don't think so. He is laughing all the way to the bank every morning to see how much interest he has earned overnight:-)) I'll bet you most so-called educated Goanetters would trade whatever certificates, degrees etc. they have wasted their time on for a small percentage of Babush's net worth:-))

[Goanet] Disgusting behaviour ruining Goa
Dear all aka Dears (courtesy Miguelbab) I suppose that there is a viewpoint that Goa is really benefiting from these Rape headlines. They surely go well with the Murder and :Suicide headlines and with Princess Corruption and a new Casino nooj about our little, once serene and beautiful Goa which has literally been handed over to the goons by you know who! My comments about the news-item (excerpted below) are as follows: 1: Dear Editor/Publisher of the Herald, please understand that YOU have the responsibility to ensure that NO person is slandered in your paper. First of all, it is NOT a rape case. It is an alleged rape case. If you and Aires do not know the difference between rape and alleged rape, please start a new business selling Gol Gappas. 2: If this advertisement has NOT been signed by bona fide (verified and verifiable) individuals, the Herald is a registered partner in Sniping from under the Shadows of anonymity. Shame on you Herald. For a few pieces of silver? 3: Does Aires have any proof that this advert is the is a handiwork of Churchill Alemao or that any of the signatories in the advertisement are bogus. 4: Has the Herald done its reasonable diligence that the signatories in the advertisement are not bogus? 5: The blackmailing charge against Aires, while plausible, needs to be proved. 6: Did the Herald make reasonable attempts to verify the bigamy charge before it allowed it in the advert? Don't tell me we have another Telo Mascarenhas situation here. On the other hand, the Herald could well have assisted in the slandering of Aires and his family. Why is Aires' family being punished for his perceived sins? 7: Both Aires and the Herald are disgusting entities for allowing others to identify the victim's name by way of their words. In summary: All individuals and entities who engage in violating others (be they young ladies or men), and ALL those who use the sad plight of others for personal (financial, ideological and political) gain are disgusting par excellence. just my view jc ps: I have intentionally changed the subject line. I do not wish to continue the nonsense of calling something by a definitive term while it is still alleged and not proven in court. == D'Souza, Avelino [EMAIL PROTECTED] fwd 1: Goa rape case: Anti-Rodrigues ad published in local daily 2: an anti-Aires Rodrigues advertisement being published in the local daily signed by 390 people. 3: Rodrigues has said that the advertisement is a handiwork of Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Churchill Alemao. 4: Many of the signatories in the advertisement are bogus. 5: The advertisement accuses Rodrigues of blackmailing people in the guise of activism. 6: It has also commented on the personal life of Rodrigues accusing him of bigamy. 7: Despite Court directives not to disclose the name of victim or her parents, the advertisement also mentions the name of the German lady. 8: The ad incidentally is in violation of the Children's Court directive which asked the media and the police to refrain from using the names of victim and her mother or any other information which could lead to identifying the victim.

[Goanet] MEGA DRAMA TO ENTHRALL GOANS
-- Samir Umarye BY SAMIR UMARYE The count down has began for the mega Marathi drama- first of it's kind in Goa- which would be packed with 225 artistes performing about 370 roles on a 6 storied revolving, moving, lifting and dangling stage. The masterpiece, herculean dream of some of the artists from Shri Vijayadurga Sanskrutik Mandal Keri Ponda has at last come true with their toilsome efforts. The mandal set up in 1991 came in lime-light when it organised 'Janata Raja' a mega drama based on the life of Shivaji Maharaj the Maratha warrior staged by famous Historian, Babasahebh Purandare. There we were just the organisers and since then we had a dream to create a masterpiece of our own and 'Sambhavami Yuge Yuge' is just a creation of our innate desires the writer of the drama Dr Narayan Desai explains. Directed by Dilip Desai 'Sambhavami Yuge Yuge', to be staged from November 8 at Goa Engineering College ground Ponda, depicts the life and message of Lord Shri Krishna. It includes the events of his birth, battle with serpent-demon Kalia, Govardhan Parvat miracle, encounter with Putna, Kansa, scenes from Mahabharata and several other episodes based on his life. The drama is full of dance and music with about 80 dancers which would enthrall the audience. The use of state-of-the-art technical inputs like sound, light, laser would further heighten the impact of the drama. To add to this there would be horses, elephants, chariots, cattles and other such things which are inseprable part of the play. Dr Desai points out, This is a record making project in the history of Marathi theater in terms of budget, physical dimensions of the stage setting as well as number of participants. Another important feature is that the whole exercise is by the Goans and is being premiered in Goa before it goes before national audience and beyond. We are planning to take the drama to other states including North India after dubbing it into other languages he disclosed. Ramayana and Mahabharat a are jewels of our scriptures with universal message. Lord Shri Krishna is not merely characters but heroes which embodies idealism and realism at philosophical plane. Dr Desai says. Eventhough the play has the same dimensions as that of 'Janata Raja' it has uniqueness of its own The Maratha King lived in modern times and had his impact on limited geographical territory. The hero of SAMBHAVAMI YUGE YUGE - Lord Krishna, as a part of our age-old civilisation, has mass appeal and influence not only in the country but the entire world: it is an universal figure Dr Desai explains. But the staging of this mega drama was not a child's play. The entire team had to burn the midnight oil, they had to undergo failures and at times the situation was not at all in their favour. The planes of organising the drama came to their mind way back in 2005 but the research took almost three years. In the mean time the production budget and the recurring cost was also redoubled. We contacted several prominent persons for guidance including Prabhakar Panshikar (Actor), Mohan Wagh (choreographer), Babasahaibh Purandare ( Historian/maker of Janata Raja), Jayantrao Salgaonkar ( Kirtankar) and several other prominent personalities, it was only when they were assured about our abilities that they helped us. Dr Desai claims. One of the hurdle was that of choosing a name and for that the committee chose a novel method. As a means of promoting participatory spirit, organisers appealed to people to suggest a title for the mega-drama. There was good response. The title was suggested by Shri. Prasad Tukaram Sawant, who was rewarded with a certificate and cash award in a public function. This mega structure would cover an area of about 17000 sq. mts.The stage will have five different levels starting from the ground, and drama will unfold on all these levels. On the top of these level there would be a huge statue of lord Krishna. The distance between the stage and the audience is around 60 mts. and the seating area will accommodate 6500 people. There will be space for smooth movement of people inside the stands and for parking of vehicles including buses, cars and two-wheelers outside Architect Rajeev Desai told. Goans are known for their artistic talent, and at times they have to leave the state to make a career.Young Goans would certainly gain confidence from this exercise and might venture for a better projects in the state Director, Dilip Desai hopes. The role of honour in staging this mega drama goes to all the committee members but the real persons behind the scene include the Stage Designer, Architect Rajeev Desai, Site Preparation incharge, Abhijit Sadhale, Setting Design and Production incharge, Dayanand Bhagat; Costume Design incharge, Digambar Singbal; Choreographer, Mayur Vaidya; Music Director, Ashok Patki; Light Design, Satish Gauns; Vijayadurga Saunskrutik Mandal President, Arun Desai. [Goanet] DISMANTLING DEMOCRACY - COMMENTS
DISMANTLING DEMOCRACY In early 1979, I went to Delhi and called on President Reddy first. He was always very polite and pleasant. We Governors looked forward to meeting him. The President mentioned to me that I was doing very useful work and he felt very happy about the way I was handling my State. The Home Minister showed similar appreciation when I met him. The next day I went to meet the Prime Minister, hoping to hear something similar. To my consternation, he pulled out a paper and started reading it. It was a complaint against me to my lady Chief Minister of Goa. The Prime Minister read it:- a); b); c); d); e); f). A rural medical officer was the subject of a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor by Smt. Mrinal Gore, a political leader. The Chief Minister complained that the Lt. Governor instead of suggesting suitable action against the officer for ignoring Govt. orders and seeking to bring political pressure, encouraged the officer to continue to ignore Govt. orders. I told the Prime Minister that this doctor had never met me. Nor had I written to him. Then when could I have encouraged this doctor to disobey his Chief Minister's orders? I fully knew the case and the truth was that I had been given approval by my Chief Minister to take action against him for disobeying his orders. I did this merely to support my Chief Minister. The Chief Minister was unable to take any action because she knew she was in the wrong. This doctor was recruited for a specialist appointment. He could not, therefore, be transferred to a non-specialist job, just like an ENT doctor could not be posted in a vacancy of T.B. doctor. Not knowing the full facts, I first gave her my approval for disciplinary action against the doctor. Later I asked for full records and found that the facts sent to me by my Chief Minister to obtain my approval for disciplinary action against the doctor were incomplete. He was a specialist and, therefore, could be transferred only in a similar vacancy and not anywhere were the Chief Minister desired. After examination of the facts I advised her not to pursue the transfer of this doctor as he would, if he went to a Court, win the case. The Chief Minister took no notice of my advice and made it a personal prestige case. However, I never withdrew my wrongly given sanction to my Chief Minister. Regarding Mrs. Gore, she was in Goa to address a political meeting and case to call on me. I do not even remember if she discussed this case with me. I assured the Prime Minister that I never came under any political pressure to give my decisions. It was a case of legal as well as moral injustice to this doctor and the Chief Minister was clearly wrong. But instead of listening to me she ran to Delhi to poison the ears of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister now turned the next page of his file and read the next charge. I sat in front of him like an accused wrongly involved in a murder case. COMMENTS: This, my dear Goans, in not an abstract from a book of fiction. This, my dear Goans, are the pages 146, 150, 151 of the First Edition of the book by Col. Pratap Singh Gill, Ex- Governor of Goa, published in 1984 by Lancer International - Post Bag No. 2, New Delhi - 110017, subsequently composed and printed in India by Lohia Composing Agency and Sunil Printers, 1067, New Delhi 110 028 - Published by Bharat Verma. The Ex-Governor is talking of Shri. Morarji Desai, the then Prime Minster of India during the Janata Party's rule. The Ex-Governor is talking about Mrs. Shashikala Kakodkar, the then Chief Minster of Goa. Mrs. Mrinal Gore was the MP from Maharashtra. And the insubordinate doctor that the Ex-Governor Pratap Singh Gill is talking about is none other than Dr. N.S. Dumo, retired State Nutrition Officer, 'WHO' trained, who is still without his full retirement benefits, and who stood-up to face the rot in the Goa's Health Department, running from pillar to post to get justice which remains denied to him to this date. During the recent extravaganza that took place in the Goa Legislative Assembly in the manner of the hearings by various Ad-Hoc Committees seemingly to solve a plethora of problems facing Goa and Goans, I have deposed in front of many such committees. But I have put forward the case of injustice to Dr. N.S. Dumo, during my deposition under the Ad-Hoc Committee on Vigilance, Home Police chaired by Shri. Manohar Parrikar, leader of the Opposition, as a clear case of mis-representation of the 'Official Recruitment Rules' framed under the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India, thereby allowing non-qualifying government considered blue-eyed boys to usurp the upgradations even to the extent of occupying the post of the Directors of Health Services, Government of Goa undeservedly. Shri. Manohar Parrikar has handed the case folder to the Director of Vigilance Shri. Jha who is supposed to look into the matter but has yet failed to do so. Whereas Dr. N.S. Dumo is yet to

Re: [Goanet] Laloo must be hanged...
This is a recurrent claim by those who would like to justify regional chauvinism. In Goa too, this belief was rampant. Including, ironically, during the anti-deputationist stir in the 1960s, when the Maharashtrians were seen as The Other. If true, it probably has more to do with corruption, rather than some regional conspiracy! (Given the multiplicity of regional conspiracies, don't they cancel each other out? Or does everyone just like to live hundreds of kilometres away from home, while giving their jobs to people from other states?) A few days ago, I posted a simple explanation showing why/how there are two classes of US citizens. The post was simple to read and hard to prove wrong by argument or evidence. The reply to that post, by one Mario Goviea, and 'approved' by the moderators, centred on the following: Mervyn himself was a third class citizen in Tanzania. Mario Goviea did not try to prove my post, about US citizens, to be false or erroneous. All he did was engage in a personal attack. Goanet would be much more interesting to read if ALL personal attacks were immediately 'rejected' by the moderators. The explanation, DO NOT ENGAGE IN PERSONAL ATTACKS, would be a sufficient wake up call to the habitual offender(s?) and those who inadvertently use it. Best of all, the quality of posts would go up dramatically as every reader here knows that people resort to personal attacks only when they have a losing argument or a lost one. Mervyn3.0 __ Yahoo! Mario Goveia wrote: As you well know, I am not the ombudsman for Goanet. If you and the other moderators see an obvious falsehood, don't you think you should flag those posts and return them for re-consideration? RESPONSE: NO! I have made the point repeatedly that Goanetters need not be interested in every post, analyze every post or get involved in every discussion. RESPONSE: Follow your own advice. As I have said above, I have never objected to anyone's right to post calumnies and falsehoods. RESPONSE: Mario also said above: I have made the point repeatedly that Goanetters need not be interested in every post, analyze every post or get involved in every discussion. and later on below: False, as I have demonstrated above because I have never denied anyone's free speech. - What exactly is Mario saying?? How does what any Goanetter has written lead in any logical way to a threat by a moderator like yourself to exclude an explanation for a rejection? RESPONSE: This is not a threat. Just telling you in PLAIN English what is likely to happen. - Bosco Goanet Admin

If you are claiming to be a recipient of a personal attack in the above example, it is more than likely you have indulged in similar commentary in a similar vein at somebody else or possibly Mario too. All we need now is for Mario to list his perceived personal attacks and we have another unending thread between the same individuals, again. [Goanet] Kanyadan: A Finnacial help to daughter's marriage
Kanyadan (Rs.15,000) Scheme: A financial assistance of Rs.15,000 given to the economically weaker section of the society for their daughter’s marriage. (it seems, the parents can apply for this scheme before or after the marriage). Who is eligible? - A Goan origin or - A resident of Goa for last 15 years - Whose monthly income is less than Rs.8,333 or les than Rs.1,00,001/year Document required: - Prescribe form duly filled in - Income Certificate - Residence Certificate - Ration card copy (attested) - Daughter’s marriage certificate (certified, if any) - An affidavit on Rs.10 stamp paper. Pl contact Directorate of Woman and Child Development 2nd Floor Shanta Building St. Inez Please also pass this one to anyone who might be in need of financial help This scheme is likely to be misused by Biharis, UPs etc etc who are here in Goa for more than 15 years. Although they live here, half of their family (mainly females) lives in their native places and they only come here to take advantage of various govt. scheme including free medical treatments. They run here Belpuri business etc and back home they buy new flats, cars etc and give it on rent . However, all the family members are included in the ration cards as well as election card in Goa. I am sure they have ration cards and election cards in their native places too. And the real Goan who needs help genuinely never get help, partly because he/she is not aware of the various schemes of the Goa government.. Hence the above request. [Goanet] Letters to the Editor (Moira Outrage)
Dear All, Please see my letter to Herald . *Subject: Moira Outrage* http://www.oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=11782cid=13 Moira outrage Arwin Mesquita, Abu Dhabi I am outraged at the recent harassment of Venita Coelho at the Moira Gram Sabha by the Sarpanch, the anti-socials and the police, who unlawfully detained her for three hours at the police station. Why did the Sarpanch not produce the electoral roll to confirm Venita's claim that she actually was a registered voter? This is a gross violation of democratic norms, and we need answers from the Sarpanch and the police -- Please post your comments on my Blog: http://goanidentity.blogspot.com/
Re: [Goanet] Goa rape case: Anti-Rodrigues ad published in local daily
I THINK THE SO CALLED 390 SIGNATORIES ARE TRYING TO JUSTIFY THE TWO MINISTERS SONS ACTIONS BY POINTING OUT TO THE 14 YRS OLD GERMANS GIRL BEHAVIOUR WHICH IN MY OPINION IS ENTIRELY WRONG, IM SURE IF IT WAS ONE OF THEIR DAUGHTERS AT THE RECEIVING END THEN THINGS WOULD BE DIFFERENT. [Goanet] Ref: BJP - Paranoia or Phobia, Goan Christian Community in a Dilemma
Ref: BJP - Paranoia or Phobia, Goan Christian Community in a Dilemma A lot has been said and seen of the Communal BJP, the Goan Christian community is caught in a dilemma, supported and endorsed by it's clergy, have alienated the BJP right from the beginning and rightly so, for it's, communal policies in totality, every BJP member is looked at as an omnipotent demi-Narkasur, and the anguish over the ghastly recent happenings in the North and South have not helped in any way but in fact only amplified the fears further and castigated the BJP for tacitly endorsing what transpired there. The BJP has been a passive bystanders to the cold-blooded bartering and coercive tactics of their allies in states where the BJP is at the helm of affairs and the minority community their bete noire, the reassuring platitudes of Advani was a cynical move to boost the plummeting support of the minority community. Till BJP came to power there was no Hindu-Christian issue, both communities lived in peace and harmony, but with the advent of BJP, the Saffron brigade, the Bajrangdal and the VHP got a short of aphrodisiac and started showing their newly attained potency with a number of anti social moves which only grew in intensity and frequency and now it's turning into a monster. Mr. Monohar Parrikar in all his simplicity, was not difficult to see how pro Hindu and anti Christian he was during his tenure as CM, his partly good governance was undone by his phalanx communalism, so what choice does the Goan Christian Community have ? With the fall of the MGP, the then regional party, the Congress came into power, and like minded Goans and more so the Christian Community heaved a sigh thinking a central party would do wonders for Goa and Goans and with Christians as fore runners in the Party, the minority community stood mouth watering in anticipation of good governance and good fortunes, The D'Souza's, The Faliero's, The Sardinha's, The Cardozo's The Alemao's, The Cruz's, The Fernandes's, The Pacheco's and of courses The Monserrate's and a lot more of them, kept on coming election after election, did any thing change ? The watered mouths got dried up, the heat got unbearable, tempers flayed and now goons are let loose on social activists and on gram sabhas, retired old men and old ladies are attacked in their homes and put in lock ups, tourists raped and murdered, corruption at it's peak, the once susegad Goans are forced on the streets, Is this what we expected from the Congress ? Is this what we want in the near future ? So what choice does the Goan Christian Community have ? I who personally lambasted the Congress Nominee at the last election, and did not allow him to even enter my residence, had infact asked him to first sort out the land scam issue in our area where he was involved, before he entered my house, voted and convinced others to vote for the same Congress because we did not want BJP at any cost, thinking, the lesser evil was the better evil Now like me a lot are wondering, was it the right decision ? Spare the rod and spoil the child that's exactly what we did, how long can Goan Christians carry this burden ? More appropriately, can Goa and Goan Christians sustain this burden ? We have little time but a lot to ponder, don't we ?
