Re: [Goanet] Freedom Fighters in Goa
That a Man [ which we normally say 'Ata Man' ] Yes dear Rajesh. You are that man who did not claim the FF's title when released from Jail in 1961. And what you say is correct. There were hardly any freedom fighters in jail then but hard core as well as petty criminals. I believe Dayanand Bandodkar was one of them too. But his crime( as I am told) was that the Portuguese thought he was suspected to have been involved in harbouring the cross border satyagrahis which has blown off some mining machinery at that time. And Bandodkar was a mine owner himself. And I am also told that DB also claimed the FF's status initially but withdrew from the same on good advice. By any chance was DB with you? It is believed that DB wrote a clandestine letter to the Commandant of the Jail ratting on the satyagrahis (naming them) so that he could be in good books with the jailors and be released. As far as I know, this is authentic information. By any chance have you heard of it while in Jail?? We appreciate your strainght-forwardness. We all get involved in petty crimes sometime or the other.Even a well deserved 'punching of some idiot's nose and bloodying it' is a crime now a days. The punishment then ( during the Portuguese regime) was hard and savage. Today, it is Amul Maska ( if one has the right connections or the right number of currency bills in the pocket) and that is why we have so many crimes and so many criminal to the extent that our very own legislators in the Legislative Assemblies and in our august Parliament are hard core criminals. Can any thing more be said on this?? Welcome to Goa. We need people like you now, before all is lost forever. [Goanet] Blinkers finally off?
A few days ago one lesser known writer who came from north america with guns blazing against Portuguese presence in Goa by using all sorts of abusive adjectives has finally taken off his blinkers by writing an article (Posted on GN) about the city of Pangim (daily photographed by JoeUK). After two years in Goa, this bharati sychopant has probably learnt his lesson that the Republic imposed upon Goans since 61 does not provide any governance to the inhabitants of the region. Maybe the egg chops manufactured by Xri Alvaro Pereira may have done good for his brains. I suggest that our nationalist bhau instead of visiting cafe Porkash should cross the road and get some lessons from Xri Pereira at Farm Products as well. BC
[Goanet] Samir Kelekar and his problem with Rajan's citizenship
Anill Desai writes: >1) The attack on NRGs and Rajan was in response to Rajan's attack on Oscar which appeared in Herald. Response: This shows that Oscar Rebello, you and your father have one common link, Digambar Kamat. Since Oscar played Footsie with him, since you are hoping to get sops from him and since your father heads a unique NGO that has the head of goa government as one of the officebearers and had has received hundreds of thousands of rupees from a debt ridden government, it >is not surprising that you have to show solidarity with Oscar. Let me clear this point. I am going to Digambar Kamat as a CM of a state that I belong to and I care about. I am spending my hard earned money to make several trips to Goa so that I can create jobs in Goa, certainly a much better endeavour than throwing some pounds as charity and giving one's services to a foreign country. Certainly, the job that I am doing or trying to do is much more challenging and difficult than doing a mere job in the UK. Besides, in India it is very tough to make ends by itself. I am working in such circumstances. I dont want complaints by someone who doesnt work in my country and all he does is throws some crumbs at Goa. What Goa needs is valuable time of people, and I am spending it. NRGs can help in the work that I am doing by giving business to companies in Goa. If you can help in that, let us work together. Otherwise, if you cant, at least dont throw spanners in the work. The dire need for Goa right now is jobs in a sustainable area. MARG spends government money for a noble purpose, and not for personal luxuries of my father. We are both working in our country where we are not thrown big money at for rendering our services unlike you. I have conscicously decided to work in my country unlike you, even when I have an opportunity to work abroad. Digambar Kamat as the CM is the common link for all Goan citizens. >2) My point was that Rajan being a US citizen has been an opportunist person and now he wants to interfere in Goan politics. I stand by the fact that as a US citizen he has no political rights in India and needs to change his citizenship. Obvioulsy, none of the NRGs even talked about the latter point, probably because opportunists dont consider that important. I indeed even went to the extent saying that Rajan would be a hero if he changed back his citizenship and plunged into fixing Goa. How about discussing this aspect of it? Can one for instance have a Portuguese citizenship and get politically involved in Goa ? Response: I did respond to this point. Probably it was difficult for you to understand. I gave you my own example, which I will repeat: I hold Indian citizenship. I do not have voting rights in India. However, I do have political rights in India. I do have voting right for council, parliamentary and European elections in the UK. The point is: you should not confuse voting rights with political rights. Rajan, like me pays taxes in India, has property in goa and has OCI. This does give him political rights even if he is not allowed to vote because of vagaries of rules of Indian government. Manmohan singh has publicly promised >to change this before 2014. You are confusing between an Indian citizen NRI and a foreign citizen. >It is therefore pointless for you to divert attention from the sterling work that Rajan has done with a documentary that he produced without any >government grant and also his successful PIL. I am not diverting attention from here, but I stand by my point that a US citizen, Rajan has not political rights. >3) The point about the Anil Desai conversation which again Jose harps on again and again. The conversation is there in the archives for anyone to say. Anil attacked my father's credentials and he was promptly responded to. Response: I do not know your father and I have not attacked your father's credentials. I did raise the point about MARG. You accepted that it has just appointed the Chief Minister of goa government as an office bearer. This makes MARG a unique NGO. You also accepted that this NGO has received >hundreds of thousands of rupees from goa government. Goa has one of the highest mortality from road traffic accidents and these figures have largely remained high. So, it would be nice to know what credible change this organisation has brought to road safety in goa. When I asked about grants, you pointed me to a website that gives very little info on expenses. So, >your response left a lot to be desired. I did not point to any website; I asked you to mail to my father m...@sancharnet.in. You dont seem to be reading my posts well. As to results, 1) the accident numbers have decreased. 2) It is not an easy process and a very tough challenge. Someone has to do the hard work. You are not doing it,my father is doing single handedly at such ripe age. Digambar Kamat has been appointed because my father is now past 80 and he wants the work to continue. If you come and

[Goanet] AISI: Panjim Carnival 2010 -Floats
Panjim Carnival 2010 -Floats As usual the parade started 4pm instead of 3pm. Traditionally, Goan Traditional brass band was leading the King Momo’s entourage but this year it was different – a band group by foreigners (Swiss?). The music they played was not suited for this traditional events. see in the bgening of this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi-75L-UVvc Whatever, it is, we did not like it to see them leading the Panjim Parade. It’s all sounding off. Their music did not suit our tradition. I wish Goa Tourism and CCP together do something to improve some of the chronic or regular problems faced by the visitors of the annual parade so that every one goes back with good and lasting memories. - Lakhs of Rupees spent to erect barricades both side of the road/lane but people seen moving up and down inside the barricade/road thus denying clear view to many people who come to watch from far and wide (including tourists). Plenty of Police seen inside the barricade but they were of no use. - Perhaps, they erect steps/gallery type sitting arrangement (as in circuses) as there is plenty room available on either side of the road. - No one should be allowed to roam about inside the barricade, not even the cameramen . They should be allotted special space or a part of the parade street. Everybody is cameraman now, even a mobile phone owner. - Many kids seen engaged in the parade. Kids as young as 5. Imagine, what they must have gone through. They must have come here at lest at 2pm and were here beyond 8pm. Some parent also seen closely guarding their kids/walking them inside the barricade thus obstructing clear view of the spectators. If parents were needed closer to their kids then they should not have been here first place. NGOs involving child protection should take note of this regular phenomenon in the Float parade. Again, many youngsters (below 18) seen dancing throughout the street. Strict age restrictions should be in place for this type of events which ends up late in the night (which may also need late evening rehearsals prior to the event) - When they knew there were about 100 floats (small and big), the whole event should have started as early as 2pm. Whole parade street (D B Road) is about 1.5 kms long (From New Pato Bridge to Kala Academy). It takes up to one hour to cover the distance. There were upto 15 minutes gapes in between the floats, The last one which may have began say 7.30 has arrive at Kala Acadmy at 8.15. Some of the good floats seen between 6.45pm till 8pm where due to poor visibility after sunset, people were not able to enjoyed them all. The streets were not lit for this purpose/occasion. It also appears that importance is given only to the first part of the parade street where VIP, VVIP, Invited guests lounges or viewing galleries erected. - Foreigners should be here to watch the parade and not to participate. Almost all floats had some foreigners, some appeared to have joined in midway. It can affect our tradition, our traditional carnival I mean. joego...@yahoo.co.uk for Goa & NRI related info... http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/ For Goan Video Clips http://youtube.com/joeukgoa In Goa, Dial 1 0 8 For Hospital, Police, Fire etc The INTERNET now has a personality. [Goanet] Another Goebbelsian lie nailed
Date: Sun, 7 Feb 2010 23:09:45 +0530 From: Tony de Sa 1. I never lived in Goa during Portuguese times except for a brief visit when I was a toto. Mario responds: OK. I stand corrected. The point is that you have somehow developed an unhealthy respect for playing second fiddle and walking in the white man's shadow, based on your comments here on Goanet. ++ Aha, the lie has been admitted. Forgot the statement made earlier by me? "I am the man who caught the thief. You are trying to catch the man who caught the thief" The second part is merely your perception. For your information, my relations have been imprisoned in Aguada by the Portuguese and also been hounded out of Goa for their association with Goa's freedom movement. In 1962. Now your typical response will be doubt asking me to produce evidence or say that I am name dropping. After all, Goebbels too was an artful dodger. - Mario responds: "Hai, Ram!" as they would say where I grew up! Talk about wilful ignorance. This guy is now pretending to not know what is going on in Carmona. The request by Arwin was not that you go to Carmona to hang out on the beach but to confront the Sarpanch from behind Wendell's skir.., ...er, trousers. ++ I am more concerned about my own priorities. Why should I jump when you or any one else asks me to jump? And incidentally, when are you going to Carmona since you are so keen about it? Don't dither. Say what you have done for Goa. Alluding to Wendell's sexual persuasion when it is NOT under discussion and is HIS PERSONAL AND PRIVATE AFFAIR shows what a low and mean character you are - a person who will tell lies or go to any lengths to try and win an argument. Mario responds: The fact is that you joined Samir in attacking "foren" NRGs for no rhyme or reason and declaring they were essentially interlopers and that "we and only we" - referring to RGs - could solve the problems in Goa. Then, after being chastised by Selma and Vivian you began to pretend that you were on the same side as them. + Get your facts together. Jose Colaco, the good doctor, wrote what was meant to be a flippant post under the subject line "from One NRG to Another: an open letter" (12/1/2010) to counter which I wrote the post "From one RG to another" That I ganged up with Samir is another of your famous lies of repeated. Selma and Vivian are fine people whom I have met and whot are not in the habit of telling lies and have done a lot more for Goa than you will ever dream of. You were joined by your friend and admirer I Nunes in an onslaught against me. That Samir seems to have a similar view of your ilk shows that my argument has support from another quarter too. Mario responds: First of all, I am not a Republican as alleged by Pinocchio. Secondly, we are seeing the last resort of a malcread caught in a web of falsehoods of his own making: start hurling what he thinks are insults. In the meantime, after stating that "we and only we", i.e. RGs can solve Goa's problems, he cannot even respond to Arwin's request go to Carmona to confront the Sarpanch, whereas he can go there to enjoy the beach. + There you go again: You are the guy CAUGHT BY ME in a web of false hoods. Also one generally abuses others in an argument when one is losing it. Your use of the word malcread (malcreada?) proves it. Regarding Carmona, read my previous response in this post and save me the trouble of cutting and pasting the same reply every time you bring it up. What are you trying to do? Bore the readers by feeding the same ole crap day in and day out? Have a nice day. What would I do without posters like you on Goanet to help me tide the tedium vitae? -- \\\ Tony de Sa tonyd...@gmail.com M : +91 9975 162 897 Ph. : +91 832 2470 148 ^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v

[Goanet] Traffic jams...
Were this year's traffic jams in Panjim for Carnival far worse than in earlier years? Did the others who came for the parade feel likewise (or was it only me)? If so, was there some foul-up in planning the route? The riverfront road had been divided in two, with the floats on the riverside and traffic permitted in the other lane. In theory, a good idea... till everything got clogged, and it took an hour or more to traverse two kms! Looking forward to other comments... I could be wrong! Dr, Anil wrote: "People who wish to hide behind The constitution of India should tell the people the whole truth." Dr. Anil, I fully agree with you on the constitutional aspect. The problem is that people read the constitution and law books like a novel. Every word is taken literally. Therefore, I have left all my arguments on the migrant issue for an appropriate moment. [Goanet] Samir Kelekar and his problem with Rajan;s citizenship
Samir kelekar wrote: 1) The attack on NRGs and Rajan was in response to Rajan's attack on Oscar which appeared in Herald. Response: This shows that Oscar Rebello, you and your father have one common link, Digambar Kamat. Since Oscar played Footsie with him, since you are hoping to get sops from him and since your father heads a unique NGO that has the head of goa government as one of the officebearers and had has received hundreds of thousands of rupees from a debt ridden government, it is not surprising that you have to show solidarity with Oscar. Manmohan singh has publicly promised to change this before 2014. It is therefore pointless for you to divert attention from the sterling work that Rajan has done with a documentary that he produced without any government grant and also his successful PIL. You also accepted that this NGO has received hundreds of thousands of rupees from goa government. Goa has one of the highest mortality from road traffic accidents and these figures have largely remained high. So, it would be nice to know what credible change this organisation has brought to road safety in goa. When I asked about grants, you pointed me to a website that gives very little info on expenses. So, your response left a lot to be desired. Anil Desai PS: For the purpose of this post on this forum, I am a saffronite. I might even have have been trained to hate catholics during my early years although I do not have clear recollection of this.

[Goanet] The Last Refuge of the Scoundrel
To Goanet - Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel, so goes an old cliché. In the case of Indians, replace "patriotism" with "constitution." For a people renowned for breaking laws and violating rules at every step and every waking moment, it is risible, not to mention predictable, to see Dr. Rebello waving the constitution now that he has been cornered. Someone emailed me saying that Dr. Oscar Rebello, the disgraced ex-convener of GBA, has written a column in Herald, Feb 12. So I went to the Herald website. After wading through a paragraph of his hooey, I retraced, felled by the farrago of 'original thoughts' flowing from Goa's numero uno footsie dancer. Dr. Rebello now appears to have developed a crush on the constitution. Not long ago, when Digu flouted the Supreme Court ruling to save his buddy Timblo's bacon, Dr. Rebello's love of the constitution lay dormant. When a well-known builder from Margao depleted an orchard for his dubious mega-project in Benaulim, nobody recalled seeing Dr. Rebello and the constitution locked in a compromising position. This builder, by the way, is one on whom Dr. Rebello has conferred the mantle of "great Goan." Quite obviously, Dr. Rebello imagines the constitution as a condom, to be used and discarded at his convenience. Turning serious for a moment - the schlock he has dumped in Herald notwithstanding, Dr. Rebello knows nothing at all about the Indian constitution. The constitution does not give the migrants the right to come into Goa and sleep on footpaths, to squat on public land, to park themselves in slums, to defecate in the open, and so on. This point is so elementary that even the ghatis know of it. But then, Dr. Rebello imagines that he is too clever by half and that he can fool us Goans yet again. This charlatan mislead the people of Goa, and colluded with the govt of Digambar Kamat while leading Goans to believe he was fighting on their behalf. His mask was stripped and the scam exposed - amusing that he thought he could get away by burying his "footsie dance" admission deep in one of his kindergarten-style columns. Looks like now he has checked into a rehabilitation clinic, metaphorically speaking. The new column he threatens to dump on us every fortnight is a desperate attempt to reboot his, alas crashed, hard drive. Perhaps Dr. Rebello has set his sights on entering politics. Hence the dire need to burnish his image, present himself as the soul of tolerance and inclusivity. He has also declared that he is not the enemy of the real estate industry. That's Politics 101 for you - know and love thy funding sources. Dr. Rebello ought to lead by example. There are ghatis defecating on the waterline not too far from his place. Won't he for a day be Dr. Nice and let them use the bathroom infrastructure in his own home? The ghatis can only hope. PS: Another exciting plot coming your way, Goans - Arvind Bhatikar is now back in an active role in GBA. Just to refresh, Bhatikar's resume has only 2 lines: bum pal of Digu, bum pal of Timblo. Nice work, GBA! Regards, r

[Goanet] Some points on Rajdeep Sardesai's open letter to Uddhav Thackeray
In an open letter to Uddhav Thackeray, on the Shiv Sena severe criticism of Shahrukh Khan, Rajdeep Sardesai writes: "Sharukh is no surprise since the Sena has always been uncomfortable with the Indian Muslim identity." Clearly the secularists cannot view ANY issue except on communal terms. There are some Muslims who are members of the Shiv Sena and also who support the Shiv Sena. I guess, accoroding to Rajdeepji, they are really not true Muslims. And what about Muslims who have also criticised Shahrukhji on this issue? I guess, they too are not true Muslims. Rajdeepji also writes: "You've called Sharukh a traitor for wishing to choose Pakistani cricketers in the IPL. " This is an utter and blatant lie. But then to show one's so-called secular credentials it is necessary to resort to lies. Without which one cannot make any case. Rajdeepji knows (or should know) that Shahrukh was termed a traitor by Shiv Sena because he said that Pakistan is a GREAT neighbour. Now, one can say that Shiv Sena is wrong on this issue. But bring out his statement out in the public, rather than tell les. Furthermore, Shajrukhji should be asked why he did not choose any Paksitani players himself. Rajdeepji would like Uddahvji to focus on some important issues. For example, he writes: "Farmer suicides still continue, the after-effects of drought are still being faced in several districts, but the focus is now squarely on finding high profile hate figures." I am sure if Rajdeepji devotes the resources of his channel on these important issues, instead of giving a minute-by-minute report on the travel programme of Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai, the people of this country would be eternally grateful to him. Rajdeepji writes: "The Congress-NCP government in the state has been thoroughly incompetent: the last decade has seen Maharashtra decline on most social and economic parameters." I do not watch Rajdeepji's channel. Has he highlighted this issue of incompetence in any meaningful manner? A general question. Has Rajdeepji written an open letter to Digvijay Singh on the latter's visit to Azamgarh in UP, which is well-known to be a hotbed of creators of terrorists in India? He will probably write a letter in open praise of Digvijayji. The open letter is available at: http://ibnlive.in.com/blogs/rajdeepsardesai/1/61523/an-open-letter-to-uddhav -thackeray.html

* * *Soter De souza wrote:* * * *Fri Feb 12 23:32:30 PST 2010* *There seems to be a well orchestrated attempt to justify influx of migrants into Goa. Incidentally, most of the migrant journalists are controlling Goa's news and opinion. * Soterbab, People who wish to hide behind The constitution of India should tell the people the whole truth. The scholars who wrote the constitution of India did guarentee freedom of movement as well as settlement for Indian citizens under article 19 but then they also provided 19. 5 ( quoted below). Article 19.5 did forsee a situation wherein the inward migration could have detrimental effect on the general public in a particular state and under these circumstances, that state is allowed to make laws imposing reasonable restrictions on the exercise of any of the rights conferred by the said sub-clauses i.e. (d) and (e). The problems created by migrants have been highlighted in the past and ultimately it is for the people of Goa to decide whether they should persuade the local politicians to enact such laws but to pretend that the constitution guarentees uncotrolled migration into any state of India is a myth. There is no doubt at all that maladministration in some of our states is leading to migration to relatively prosperous states like Goa and Maharashtra. In the long run, this will have serious and even disastous consequences for these states and it is high time that independent minded senior lawyers looked at this provision in the constitution to stop uncontrolled migration wherein the migrants have to settle in shanty towns created for the benefit of vote bank politics. As to whether the 'Migrant Commissioner' of Goa Bachao is sympathetic to migrants because of political aspirations remains to be seen. I would not like to bet against it. * * *Article 19 Protection of certain rights regarding freedom of speech, etc.* (1) All citizens shall have the right - (d) to move freely throughout the territory of India; (e) to reside and settle in any part of the territory of India; and (5) Nothing in sub-clause (d) and (e) of the said clause shall affect the operation of any existing law in so far as it imposes, or prevent the State from making any law imposing, reasonable restrictions on the exercise of any of the rights conferred by the said sub-clauses either in the interests of the general public or for the protection of the interests of any Schedule Tribe.*** * * *Anil Desai* * *
[Goanet] How Russian rules in Morjim,
How Russian rules in Morjim, and later on Goans will be treated in the same way, the taxi driver was assaulted in the rest of goa. First Goans sold their lands now they are leasing their business to Russians. But mind you Tourist Taxi drivers in the coastal belt from Cavelossim to Majorda are a law unto themselves thanks to the political patronage. Among their victims were a group of journalists a decade back, fortunately i was not one of them in the group. Till now they have issues with the hotels and the politicians hailing from the belt have not been able to sort out the issue, and they do not want to, as they want to use it for their vested purpose. Russian assaults taxi driver, locals pay back HERALD CORRESPONDENT PERNEM, FEB 12 Tempers ran high at Vithalwado-Morjim late Thursday night, after a 45-year-old taxi driver from Morjim was brutally assaulted by a Russian who operates a bar in the area. Irate locals then assaulted the Russian, Konstantian Alexander Morozollee, as he tried to escape from the site. Pernem police has arrested five persons, besides the Russian bar owner, in the connection. The incident took place at about 11 pm as Konstantian was planning a party at Ashwen beach to celebrate his birthday on Saturday. It is learnt that the Russian, who allegedly runs a bar at Ashvem Beach, had gone to Vithalwado to paste some advertisement for the party on Saturday. According to Pernem police, Konstantian was in a Swift car (Ga-08-0003) when he reportedly flashed his car headlights on some local taxi drivers. The taxi drivers requested the Russian to put off the lights and this infuriated him. In a fit of anger, Konstantian allegedly abused and assaulted taxi driver, Rohidas Atmaram Shetgaonkar, with fist-blows. Rohidas collapsed on the road and was later rushed to GMC Hospital at Bambolim with severe injuries, where he was reported to be in a serious condition. Furious over the sudden attack on the taxi driver, an irate group of locals rushed in search of Konstantian, who tried to escape by hiding in a nearby restaurant, run by another Russian. The locals, however, caught hold of the Russian and assaulted him, causing him a fracture to his finger. Konstiantian managed to escape in another car. The locals then damaged the Swift car, which Konstiantian had brought to the site. Later, Konstiantian got himself admitted in a private hospital at Mapusa and also filed a police complaint against the local youth from Morjim. Pernem police have arrested Tukaram Palyekar, Amrut Phadte, Domnic Cardozo, Girish Devji and Gorish Lingudkar under Sections 143, 147, 148, 325, 452, 504, 427 CrPC, who were later released on bail. In the meantime, Rohidas’ brother, Mahesh, filed a police compliant against Konstantian, who was later arrested under Section 307 of IPC.

Re: [Goanet] The Portuguese Republic and Goa...
Dear Fred, Bravo! What a wonderful spirited response to my provocation. Thank you, your response does me honour. To address your questions though, let me begin my indicating that I am not suggesting that the Portuguese Republic is without its problems. The Portuguese Republic was full of problems, though not necessarily the problems you indicate. The Republic was in fact, more 'colonial' than the monarchy ever was. The Republicans responding to 'European' threats to their 'colonial possessions'. The Republic, and its current celebrations are not without its own nationalist element, which is quite frankly distasteful. Having said this however, which event, person in history is not? The Indian Republic is full of problems, even a personage as hallowed as Gandhi is not without serious problems, that might even render him untouchable at some levels. Thus clearly, merely because the event is problematic on some levels, does not make it something we must ignore. I will grant you this much though, that my language ought to have been tempered. The word we are looking for is commemorate, with its implications of solemn and critical review, rather than celebrate, which suggest uncritical embrace. When we ask whether the Republic intended the benefits to the colonies or not, I think we are playing an old, tired, nationalist card, which is the one card I am clearly trying to avoid in my column. Despite your good intentions, you very often tend to play this card. Unwittingly perhaps, but it shows us the power of (anti-colonial) nationalism as an ideology. You also ignore the fact that I am trying to point out, that the politics of Republics was exactly the politics of claims and what they allowed us to do with it. Were it not for such politics, we would not have any of the emancipatory politics we have today. None of them! The Age of the Republics was entirely about claims that were made for bourgeois interests, rather than man-kind. But we can still turn it and use it against oppression. Thus, if a Bahujan activist can use it even today, I say we should strengthen her arm, rather than shoot her down. We should see what we can do to create a different history from the one we have inherited, and the one that we are presented. I will reiterate that this assertion that was made, fundamentally changed the way I looked at things. And for this point alone, it should be commemorated. Finally, to commemorate it allows us to recognise that the elite Goan Hindu, who is today the one crying hoarse about the trials of colonialism, in fact had it quite well. They were able to benefit from the Republic, only because they were already in a dominant position. They DID benefit from the Republic, and we should not allow this fact to be erased. To do so, allows the bad eggs among them, to play this ridiculous card they have been playing where the colonial period was one long dark holocaust for them. No sir, I will not allow them to play this card. will end on this note, hoping I have made my point > -- > > Message: 9 > Date: Sat, 13 Feb 2010 01:47:48 +0530 > From: Frederick Noronha > To: "Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994!" > > Subject: Re: [Goanet] The Portuguese Republic and Goa... > Message-ID: ><11a806d21002121217h48703660g54010ef21ed76...@mail.gmail.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 > > Jason, I think the jury is still out in Portugal itself on the > benefits and role of the First Portuguese Republic. Re: [Goanet] Ministers Literacy Rate
An easy experiment: Give a pick axe in the hands of an elite educated holding various degrees and tell him to dig a pit. At the same time give a paper and pen to an undeducated and tell him to write an essay on how to dig a pit. The moral of the story is: Whereas on the one side, a person can write everything about digging a pit to perfection, but it takes the digger to do the job. That means both must work in tendon with one another to get the desired results. Governance is the same. Those who are elected must be visionaries like our ancestors, many of whom were not educated but have a lot to show for their wisdom. The level of education will not necessarily improve governance. It takes more of common sense, dedication and vision. Cheers floriano goasuraj 9890470896 www.goasu-raj.org GOA does not only need HONEST persons to contest elections, and, Goa does not only need HONEST voters to elect honest persons. But GOA mainly needs an 'HONEST SYSTEM of GOVERNANCE'. Wherein, even a dishonest person is forced to be honest or to QUIT. Such HONEST SYSTEM is knocking at GOA's portals. A 'PRECIOUS GIFT' to GOA by committed GOANS. A 'GIFT HORSE' that must not be looked in the mouth. Is this same literacy rate reflective, for ministers in our current government, particularly Salcete, which has many of its MLA's as Ministers? No Wonder, Goa is not progressing harmoniously!! It is high time Literate Goans start taking a greater role in the governance and the constructive development of Goa; with respect to preserving our land, culture and identity. Overseas Goans in particular, who have gained Global Expertise & Best Practices should now consider returning and saving Goa from the Current MLA's and other destructive elements!!
