[Goanet] Group7,a lost battle?
--- Sign the Petition requesting The Honble Minister of State for Environment and Forests (I/C) to maintain the moratorium on issuing further environmental clearances for mining activities in Goa http://goanvoice.org.uk/miningpetition.php --- The heat generated by the group of seven (G-7) seemed to have cooled off some more with the Congress leadership in Goa appearing more buoyant and chief minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday even saying he doesn’t believe in the existence of a G-7. Speaking to the media after a cabinet meeting that was attended by four of the G-7’s five ministers, a confident Kamat said, “I don’t believe there is a G-7. There is only a coalition government.” Upon prodding Kamat said, “They (G-7) have some issues which they have raised at their party level. They have not given me any demands. If their demands are not within my powers, why will they come to me?” When prodded some more, Kamat said, “I am running the state. They have raised some issues. My leaders are in touch with their leaders. Until the leadership decides, I cannot say anything.” Kamat was not the only Congressman with a spring in his step today. Two other Congress ministers were equally confident the G-7 rebellion was a lost battle. Emerging from the cabinet meeting, PWD minister Churchill Alemao’s smirk was even more telling than his statement. “Our high command has already decided what to do about these G-7 demands. You will come to know soon,” he said grinning broadly. Another Congress minister parroted Kamat’s quip. “There is no G-7. The so-called G-7 does not know what exactly it wants.” _ Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft’s powerful SPAM protection. https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?id=60969
[Goanet] MARKS BONANZA FOR SPORT'S PERSON
--- Sign the Petition requesting The Honble Minister of State for Environment and Forests (I/C) to maintain the moratorium on issuing further environmental clearances for mining activities in Goa http://goanvoice.org.uk/miningpetition.php --- Marks bonanza for sports person from this year,GOA first state to do so.. The Cabinet today approved the Sports policy making Goa the first State in the country to award marks to the students who excel in sports. “The benefit of the sports policy had to be given to the students who are appearing for exams this year,” Kamat said at the post Cabinet media briefing. He said the emergency meeting was called as the cabinet had to take a decision and communicate it to the Goa Board, whose executive council was meeting today. “Otherwise it would have to be implemented from the next academic year,” Kamat stated. Giving details of the marks under the sports policy, Kamat said students who play at taluka level will get five marks, those who are contributing at district, state and zonal level will get 10, 15 and 20 marks respectively while the students playing at national and international level will get 25 and 40 marks, respectively. Those students who bag medals will also get additional marks (maximum of 12 marks), the chief minister said. Maximum 52 marks will be available for the taking, he noted. Besides this, Kamat said the sports policy also gives sizeable relaxation in school attendance to the students participating in sports. “50 per cent exemption in the attendance would be given for the representation at State and zonal level, 30 per cent for taluka, 40 per cent for district level and 75 per cent exemption for national and international level,” he said. The marks and attendance exemption will be given for only Board exams, he said. With this sports policy, Kamat said, Goa probably is the only State in the country to give benefit to the sports talent in form of marks,” he said. _ Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft’s powerful SPAM protection. https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?id=60969

(Copied and pasted below) Re: [Goanet] Dempo-Souza. rcabral Wed, 24 Jun 2009 03:25:26 -0700 Perhaps Mr. Souza had been residing in Calcutta but as far as my knowledge goes he hailed from Pilerne where his house still stands. Yes it is true he was born in Pilerne and the family house is still there. He was sent to Calcutta to be educated. He then returned to Goa in 1958 and started the mining industry with Salgaoncar. They were the founders of the mining industry of Goa. My grandfather went on to creating business ties with Japan which are maintained till today. Mitsui is one of them. My grandfather died on November 8 1985. My dad never went to the Middle East and neither of his two sisters were doctors. Neither of them ever lived in India after 1960. They were all educated abroad. My aunts continued living abroad and my dad (Micky deSouza) lived here and helped my grandfather with the mines till the Dempos robbed us of it. NO! They never paid us. They embezzled the company, tried to frame my grandfather and just took over the mines. The court cases were lost because they bribed my Grandfather's lawyer and the judge. This is the accurate story. My grandfather NEVER drank to his ruin as quoted by Eric BUT the Dempos would go to his house every evening to drink Scotch because they were not allowed to have alcohol in their house and they were forbidden to drink alcohol outside as well. Holy Thursday and the visiting priest from Goa was late! I cut the huge confessional queue at St. Joseph's in Astoria, past the Maltese Knights tapestry, to the loo. Cocky and I raced back quickly - but the little red door I opened snapped shut after me! A green light. Horrors! I was in the reverse confessional. "Oh my God!" I choked, "The priest's side! What shall we do??" "Shaddup!" cackled Cocky, "I'll manage! Let's hear confessions!" The popat always knows. She flew onto the bulb, darkening it. I hid behind the screen "Bapache, Putache ani Povitr", a fat, ugly Goencar entered. "Stop!" cried Cocky in a deep tone, "State name and address!" "Whaaat Father?? Nobody's ever asked this in confession before!" "Listen sinner - you want forgiveness or not? Take or leave!" "OK! Jessy Carrasco, from Baha...uh, Carribean! Father, my sins.." "You got two minutes!! Long line-up! You an illegal, or a rapist?" "Father, I'm a quack - by correspondence! I slander, am a pedo..." "Enough! Say three novenas, then drink a bottle of KCN ! Next!" The portly pimp blubbered and left. Enter a sultry Goenchi siren. "Hello dahling!" she whispered, "You Father Zozo from Zorint?" "Cut the crap, sis! I'm Fr. Lolo from Loliem! Name, address, sins!" "I'm Pamelo Bojes, I sell fake bojeas, I tell lies, I spies! It's hot here, can I remove my blouse? I was a nun, I still cloisterphobic!" "Nuns are creatures of habit!" Cocky punned, "Have you no syntax?" "There's a tax on sin, now? It's not in my Sunday missile, sweety!" "Aaargh! Ten Rosarys, no feni till July! Now scoot Jezebel! Next!" The hussy buttoned-up, and sniffled out. A dark tiatrist, dressed half his age entered - going sixty, his email said youn...@gmale. "Arre, tum re Lolo??" he asked, "Are you still the pa'tew in Loliem?" "Arre, Colbert de Colva, I'm not pa'tew, but pa'three, (padri) like you Mr. young four-three! Are you still sinning against Fr. Digo?" "Na Father, it was cleric..al error! But his parish had to perish! So we burnt it, and I fled to US! Bless me Father, for I have...singed!" "Arre, Colo, don't justify sin, just defy sin! Fifty rosaries! Get lost!" A plump matron, missal in hand, bustled in past the swearing goyo. "O Fr. Lolo, nice trip? I come, famous Ann Bentao, for...bensaum!" "Ann, you sure goan to heaven - just don't harp on it! Any sex?" Bentao was famed for chronicling the steamy sexploits of the randy lower classes. Her "Dorjiche Duve" was an epic Goan Kama Sutra. "Just a comedy: 'Benedict - Vatican And Can't Do' !" She slid a book. "Penance" was it's lurid sub-title. Bentao giggled, genuflected, left. The line outside sounded restive. It was getting dark. I struggled with the confessional door, as a lithe young Anglo maiden burst in. "Bless me Father, I'm so hot for you, I'm Evelyn, and available!" "Ah," warbled Cocky, "You're Evil'yn, evil and able, orevilable??" "Yes, Father, I built up so much for you I'm a goan bust! And you?" "I keep fit by exorcising!" said Cocky evilly, "But you're mistaken!" The inner deadbolt slid apart before me. As if in sync, the penitent door behind Evelyn burst open, the crowd listening as she gasped. "It's dark in here! Aren't you Fr. Kayfers, the regular high-priest?" "Yea...high...on?? He's been taken away! I'm Fr. Lolo from Goa!" >From the ante-chamber, I spotted a yellow-cab from JFK drive up, and an ancient Goan cleric limp out, heading up. The real Fr. Lolo! Cried Eve, "I'll rush to the precinct, Fr. Kayfers needs me, he's real kind, gave me minks and stoles. But what can I say there?" I grabbed the parrot and ran as she gave one last screech. "Just say," cackled Cocky, "Fur...give me, Father!!!" The confessional line collapsed. The popat always knows. The above humour column first appeared online on the 6th April, 2010. [Goanet] CRPF jawans killed
--- Sign the Petition requesting The Honble Minister of State for Environment and Forests (I/C) to maintain the moratorium on issuing further environmental clearances for mining activities in Goa http://goanvoice.org.uk/miningpetition.php --- Launch operation Green Hunt to eliminate the naxals and then decry the savagery of maoists when the jawans get killed. What about people being killed by the armed forces, is it civilised? This Chidambaram is a coward and should be sent into the jungles instead of those jawans who come from poor homes. Claims that around 1000 maoists ambushed the jawans is itself a pointer that the naxalism is not confined to a a few trouble makers. The tribals know the forest better than the armed forces. The forests are theirs. -Soter

[Goanet] St Inez nullah now a creek
--- Sign the Petition requesting The Honble Minister of State for Environment and Forests (I/C) to maintain the moratorium on issuing further environmental clearances for mining activities in Goa http://goanvoice.org.uk/miningpetition.php --- St Inez nullah now a creek Paul Fernandes & Andrew Pereira, TNN, Apr 6, 2010, 04.36am IST PANAJI: In a major development, a sub-committee of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) decided to strictly consider the St Inez waterway as a creek-and not a storm water drain or nullah-for future planning purposes. "Future city planning will now consider it a creek and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) rules will now apply," a sub-committee member said. Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar who heads the JNNURM subcommittee said, "St Inez waterway is a creek, not a nullah, as it witnesses tidal flushing. The decision has been taken for the wholesome good of the city instead of a piecemeal solution." A meeting of the JNNURM subcommittee was held on Monday to consider a detailed project report prepared by the Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCO) for the creek's beautification. NIO scientist Antonio Mascarenhas invited for the meeting said the Survey of India (SoI) toposheet of the early 1960s proved that the creek was functional then with daily tidal influx routinely up to Tonca and beyond. "The entire landscape was then a marshy wetland, thinly populated and occupied by paddy fields and orchards. St Inez creek constitutes a part of the antecedent drainage of the area," he explained. Another member Nandkumar Kamat said, "It is an issue of ecological, environmental and social justice affecting half the city of Panaji. The move to convert the creek into a municipal drain by concretization is to permit constructions." TOI has reported about problems related to the St Inez creek, especially citizens' concerns regarding its concretization and the need for desilting it. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/St-Inez-nullah-now-a-creek/a rticleshow/5764960.cms ~(^^)~ Avelino

--- Sign the Petition requesting The Honble Minister of State for Environment and Forests (I/C) to maintain the moratorium on issuing further environmental clearances for mining activities in Goa http://goanvoice.org.uk/miningpetition.php --- Basu highlights Goa issues in movie Tuesday, April 6 2010, 09:47 BST Bipasha Basu has revealed she wants to make people more aware about the high crime rate in Goa through her new movie Dum Maro Dum. The actress also said that more needed to be done to protect female travellers in the region. "I'm really concerned about what's happening in Goa. When I took up this role I saw it as a vehicle to create a certain awareness about the reality of the crime rate on the beaches of Goa," Basu told Mid Day. "It's so easy to let an underbelly thrive in Goa. Everyone here can do what he or she like. Goa's image has suffered a beating. And female tourists are the main victims. Female travellers coming to Goa are world gypsies. In Goa, they end up trusting the wrong people. We must protect them. I wish Goa wouldn't be saddled with a negative image. Bad elements exist everywhere." http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/bollywood/news/a212679/basu-highlights-goa-i ssues-in-movie.html ~(^^)~ Avelino

[Goanet] Vigilance dept to probe irregularities in approvals to Anjuna ‘farm houses’
--- Sign the Petition requesting The Honble Minister of State for Environment and Forests (I/C) to maintain the moratorium on issuing further environmental clearances for mining activities in Goa http://goanvoice.org.uk/miningpetition.php --- Vigilance dept to probe irregularities in approvals to Anjuna ‘farm houses’ HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, April 5 Acting on the representation made by Anjuna Rakhon Manch alleging irregularities on allotment/sub-division of land and approvals granted for ‘farm houses’ in Anjuna, the Vigilance Department has initiated an inquiry into the matter. That an inquiry has been initiated has been confirmed by Director of Vigilance Arun Desai. A week ago, villagers from Anjuna under the banner of the Manch had marched into the capital city demanding inquiry into the land issue. Copies of representations were submitted to the District Collector, Forest department, directorate of panchayats and Vigilance department. The vigilance department is learnt to have asked for a report from the local village panchayat and Town & Country Planning department. The villagers had complained that a housing cooperative society had obtained licence for farm houses but in reality plans show that they are bungalows, numbering around 40 on a scenic site. The total area mentioned in the memorandum was around 2.8 lakh sq mt. In the representation submitted to the North Goa Collector, they pointed out that the area where the construction has been allowed had been marked as No Development Zone in the draft Regional Plan 2021. At the gram sabha held on March 5, 2009, the same property being a hillock had been stated as NDZ and reserved area but the village panchayat passed plans and issued permission on 9-6-2009, 12-08-2009 and 18-8-2009 which was in total violation of recommendation of RP 2021 which the panchayat itself had forwarded to the government. The property in question comprises a hill having steep slope on three sides, the representation said adding that towards the south is the hill of Baga-Arpora which many a politicos are eying. The property had no motorable road until recently when a 10-metre road has been made when roads in the tourists’ interest do not even have 5-metre roads. Another issue raised by them was that the land in question was tenanted land. Sources said that vigilance department is likely to go into the aspect of transfer of land and how the mutation was carried out. http://www.oheraldo.in/news/Local%20News/Vigilance-dept-to-probe-irregularities-in-approvals-to-Anjuna-lsquo-farm-houses-rsquo/35496.html Moi-mogan, Domnic Fernandes Anjuna, Goa Mob: 9420979201 _ Catch the latest in the world of fashion http://lifestyle.in.msn.com/
