2012-09-22 Thread kurt fernandes
First go to Margao and find a place where you get the Portuguese documents
translated
into both English and  Konkani - Portuguese translators and then once you get
the nos that
are on the documents go to the Survey Office, Margao which is the same building
where the Drivers licences, Scooters etc. are renewed, new drivers etc. This
building is opposite the new
Fish Market in Margao. In this building you have the Sub Registrar's Office,
State Bank
of India and a whole lot of offices.I dont remember the name of the building.
This building is next to an open ground where many trade shows, exhibitions take
place - next to Katamba bus stop but before you reach Katamba bus stop- 5 mins
from Katamba. Not far from the Colva, Fatorpa, Margao, Panjim roundabout. Hope
this helps.

Roland,
The Indian Govt says that India has no dual nationality. That's who.

The Indian Govt makes it perfectly clear that Constitution of India
forbids dual citizenship or dual nationality, except for minors where the
second nationality was involuntarily acquired. The Indian Govt also makes it
perfectly clear that the Overseas Citizenship of India does not amount to dual
citizenship or dual nationality.

Secondly, any Indian citizen who acquires citizenship of another country
immediately ceases to be a citizen of India. Other countries, Tanzania for
example, recognises a person as a citizen until the person formally renounces
his/her citizenship.

[Goanet] Nuclear power

2012-09-22 Thread U. G. Barad

In an interview, available at:

http://www.rediff.com/news/interview/interview-loved-by-his-peers-yet-wanted
-in-350-cases/20120919.htm

Udaykumar, who is leading the fight against the nuclear power plant at
Kundakulam, had the following to say:

Q.: But once the plant starts functioning, it will be very difficult to stop
it.
A.: You cannot stop it temporarily, but you can de-commission it and stop it
permanently.

Q.: Now that 99 per cent of the work is complete, to what end is your
struggle continuing?
A.: It is not too late. Even now they can change the plant to a gas-powered
or a thermal plant. We are not saying demolish and throw it into the sea, we
are saying we do not want nuclear power.

Q.: A thermal plant is much more polluting than a nuclear plant.
A.: That is true, but the waste will not be around for 48,000 years, which
is the case with Uranium. The thermal plant will be polluting, but we do
need electricity. We have never told them to abandon the plant. All we ask
is abandon nuclear power.

I thought the members on this list would be interested.

The Laadly Laxmi scheme is a vote-bank scheme and was intended to be such

You have quoted the 37th. President of the United States of America,

After decades of hectic lobbying, the efforts of civil society for getting
the Right to Information law in place bore fruit on 15 June 2005 when the
President of India gave assent to the Right to Information Act 2005. Over
the last seven years however the greater challenge has been the actual
implementation of the Act.

The 37th President of the United States of America Mr. Richard Nixon had in
1972 very rightly said “When information which properly belongs to the
public is systematically withheld by those in power, the people soon become
ignorant of their own affairs, distrustful of those who manage them, and -
eventually - incapable of determining their own destinies."

Re: [Goanet] Allen de Sa holds dual citizenship: Mickky

2012-09-22 Thread Gabriel de Figueiredo
It is a little known fact that all Goans born in Goa prior to 19 Dec 1961, are
de-facto Portuguese citizens, and their citizenship has not been "lost" as a
result of Indians forcing their citizenship on to Goans. Those Goans, except
those who were then in Govt service and forced to revoke their nationality
(which is why many of them left Goa, except for Pe. Chico Monteiro), are still
passive Portuguese citizens. Allen de Sa was my contemporary at Dhempe's,
therefore he would be one of those Goans born prior to 19 Dec 1961, and
consequently, still a de-facto Portuguese citizen.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think enrolment in Govt service
means a revoking of Portuguese nationality, unless he specifically signed a
document to that effect.

Church diktat bans soccer on Sundays for Mizo youth

Author: TNN
Publication: The Times of India
Date: September 21, 2012
URL:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Church-diktat-bans-soccer-on-Sunday
s-for-Mizo-youth/articleshow/16483875.cms

Youth of Christian-dominated Mizoram are at a crossroads between passion and
religion. The dilemma follows a recent appeal on a ban on playing football
on Sundays by the Synod, the highest decision-making body of the powerful
Mizoram Presbyterian Church.

A statement signed by Synod moderator Rev Thangzauva and Synod secretary
"Upa" (elder) DP Biakkhuma says, "The Presbyterian Church Synod appeals to
all people of Mizoram to refrain from any sporting activities on Sundays as
Mizoram is a Christian state and Sunday is a sacred and important day for
Christians." It, however, expressed happiness over the success of Mizo youth
in sports. The statement added, "The church appeals to all people to respect
our sacred day."

Jonathan L Hnamte, a member of the Seventh Day Adventists Church, criticized
the statement of the Presbyterian Church saying it clearly exposes the
apathetic attitude of Mizoram's biggest church towards other Christian
denominations. "Members of the Seventh Day Adventists and also some other
denominations, observe Saturday as the Sabbath just like the Catholics, the
Presbyterians and the Baptists observe Sunday as the holy day," said Hnamte.

He added that they had tolerated people playing football or other games near
their places of worship on Sabbath, while having church service, for years.
He said the Presbyterian Church was powerful enough to dictate terms to the
state government. Accusing its leaders of acting like religious bigots, he
added that issuing restrictions to the people of Mizoram revealed their
arrogant attitude.

He said liquor was prohibited since the past 15 years as successive
governments could not defy the church's "appeal" despite the state losing
revenue.

[Goanet] Award to Agarwal of Sesa Goa

2012-09-22 Thread U. G. Barad
I thought members on this list would be interested in this item.

Best regards,

U. G. Barad

Anil Agarwal is ET's Business Leader of Year
The Times of India, September 19, 2012

This year, the roll of honor stretches quite literally from copper to
cheese, from internet access to investment banking. The jury for The
Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence 2012 met this week in Mumbai
to anoint the winners of India's biggest, most-anticipated business awards.

The Business Leader Award for the year 2012 goes to Anil Agarwal, chairman,
Vedanta Resources. A true rags-to-riches success story, Agarwal started out
as a trader of scrap metals, and today runs a global natural resources
conglomerate, which successfully completed a major acquisition - that of
Cairn India - during the last year.

The Company of the Year for 2012 goes to HDFC Bank, India's most valuable
bank by market capitalization, a milestone that it achieved this year.

Jubilant Foodworks, the jury's choice for the Emerging Company of the Year,
has set a scorching benchmark of 50% growth in the quick-service restaurant
industry, after one of the most successful IPOs in recent years.

From a long list of innovators in different fields, the jury picked Devi
Prasad Shetty, the founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya and its pioneering model
of low-cost, high-volume healthcare. Shetty, who plans to add 30,000 beds to
his chain of hospitals in India and abroad, has also collaborated with the
Karnataka government to design the world's cheapest health insurance scheme,
which currently covers over four million people in the state.

The Global Indian of the Year for 2012 is Anshu Jain, the co-CEO of
Deutsche Bank. Among the few foreigners who have headed a major European
bank, Jain exemplifies what this category of ET Awards is about: to honour
an Indian who has excelled against competition in a global environment.

From bringing telephony to the masses in the 1980s to his new challenge of
creating a nationwide broadband backbone, Sam Pitroda, who won the Policy
Change Agent Award, has worked towards the dream of democratizing
information.

This year's Corporate Citizen of the Year Award has a new mandate: to
celebrate a large company that has made significant progress on social,
environmental and governance challenges. The Aditya Birla Group, the 2012
winner, has pursued sustainable economic independence, put in place a
"triple bottomline accountability", represented by economic success,
environmental responsibility and social commitment, which it hopes will
integrate the interests of all stakeholders into the core DNA of the group.

The final award, Lifetime Achievement, goes to a man who didn't work until
the age of 32. Fifty years later, P R S Oberoi, chairman, East India Hotels,
is still very much in the driver's seat, fending off takeover threats and
leading an expansion plan for the hotel group that he has transformed,
taking it so far upscale that it needed a term that was new to the hotel
trade to describe it: "super deluxe".

The jury for the ET Awards 2012 was chaired by Deepak Parekh, chairman of
HDFC. The other members included K V Kamath, chairman emeritus, ICICI Bank
and chairman, Infosys Technologies; Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman, Aditya
Birla Group; A M Naik, chairman & managing director, Larsen & Toubro; Chanda
Kochhar, managing director & CEO, ICICI Bank; Kris Gopalakrishnan, executive
co-chairman, Infosys; and Cyril Shroff, managing partner, Amarchand &
Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co.
