[Goanet] Objectionable picture of Jesus Christ
I came across the enclosed article. Aries has every right to express his displeasure of the chief minister comparing his suffering to that of Jesus Christ. And he has every right to say that he found the silence of the Church disturbing. But, I think, he could have expressed his displeasure in a more refined way. Incidentally, Aries says that the picture that he has depicted is not that of Christ. Can he say whose picture it is? I have personally not seen the picture. Best regards, U. G. Barad Complaint filed against Goa activist over vulgar image of 'Christ' Author: IANS Publication: News Track India Date: January 14, 2013 URL: http://www.newstrackindia.com/newsdetails/2013/01/14/268--Complaint-filed-ag ainst-Goa-activist-over-vulgar-image-of-Christ-.html A digitally altered image posted on Facebook allegedly of Jesus Christ has prompted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa to file a police complaint against a lawyer and activist who had uploaded it on the social networking site. The complaint lodged with Director General of Police Kishen Kumar has sought action against activist Aires Rodrigues for hurting religious sentiments by uploading an image of Christ showing the middle finger, Goa BJP's vice-president Wilfred Mesquita told reporters here Monday. This is a vulgar picture of Jesus Christ that he has uploaded in order to make a point against the BJP. Such use of religious imagery is aimed at creating hatred with a community, Mesquita said. Rodrigues has in the past taken on both the Congress as well as the BJP government over issues like governance and overspending. The photo was uploaded days after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar reportedly said that in his role as chief minister, he was suffering like Christ himself. The stoic silence by the Church on this outrageous and demeaning comparison by the chief minister is deafening. A very sorry state of affairs, Rodrigues said in his controversial Facebook post. Rodrigues said that he was himself a born Catholic and the post was without any malice and should offend none. Nowhere in the post is it said that the picture accompanying the post was that of Jesus Christ, the lawyer activist said.

[Goanet] Dykt: Lisbon Appointment (did you know this?)
The Lisbon Appointment was the decision in 1965 by Britain's self- governing colony in Rhodesia to open its own diplomatic mission in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, which would operate independently from the British embassy there. Britain objected to the proposal when it was put forward in June 1965, and tried unsuccessfully to block it. The affair came amidst the larger dispute between Whitehall and Salisbury about sovereign independence for the colony. Whitehall insisted that there could be no independence before majority rule, which was opposed by Rhodesia's mostly white government. Rhodesia's staunch opposition to immediate majority rule and its disillusionment regarding Britain propelled it towards Portugal, which governed the neighbouring territories of Angola and Mozambique. Portugal, while insisting it was neutral regarding Rhodesia, officially recognised Harry Reedman as Chief of the Rhodesian Mission in September 1965. It was careful to avoid provoking Britain, omitting the word diplomatic from the titles given to Reedman and his mission, but the Rhodesians still regarded themselves as victorious. Less than two months later, Rhodesia unilaterally declared independence. Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbon_Appointment
[Goanet] Objectionable picture of Jesus Christ
Jesus was born an Arab Jew and could not possibly have had a white skin, blue eyes and light brown hair (picture used by Aires). That portrait of Jesus that we find in the Churches in Goa was based on both ignorance of the Portuguese as well as an attempt by the European colonial powers to prove their superiority, what I would call a political Jesus. Forensic scientists have developed a likeness of Jesus; it was published some years ago in the National Geographic and those who are interested can see it here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/health/forensics/1282186 Regards Bernardo E. de Sousa U. U. G. [Goanet] Jesus controversy!
That was interesting about Eugene's post Jesus T-shirt controversy and the current debate of the lawyer activist in Facebook/Prudent media concerning Jesus Christ Interestingly as the Lawyer activist says that the RC Church did not say nothing about the CMama politician quoting Jesus to Himself. I dont't think he meant to insult anyone. He over exegerated his position of the politician. But should the name of the prophet was quoted, the Alahoos would go for anyone's neck for blasphemy. Dare our CMama do this? I doubt! Interestingly NO ONE knows what the face of the Historical Jesus looks like. Some have given him various shapes and sizes. Others have depicted Him with a beared. Some say He shaved daily. The ONLY source if one wants to KNOW and see Him is the Bible or the Torah and the Gospel accounts. Jesus manifested Himself both in both the New and Old Testaments in the bible. In the NTestament He incarnated. The Word (Jesus) became flesh (John 1:14) One can get an idea of His nature and character in the Gospel accounts written by those who knew Him. The only person who wrote an near account of Jesus face was his best friend and the youngest apostle named John. He (John) was always close to His Friend - and wrote 5 books in the New Testament Bible. Soon after Jesus' death and His resurection, he appeared to many, interestingly MANY did not recognize Him. Mary Magdalene was the FIRST to discover Him. She thought he was the local gardner until Jesus called her by her personal name. Could she have recognized His familiar voice which He used to speak to her prior to her deliverance as a sex worker? She was very grateful to him. The Eleven Apostles did NOT recognize Him - inspite of having spent 3 plus years with the Lord. (See the Writing of John in chapter 20). The same John writes again writes what He saw: Revelations Chapter 1 quote: Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. 17And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. 18I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. 19Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this. unquote. Even with the above His face was NOT described. His works and His death and resurection has affected many until this day. Interestingly, again, the word CHRIStianity is NOT found , not even ONCE in the Bible. It is a religion - of various brands marketed but church denominations. Why should they (RC or others) care? We live in a world where anything goes. Each one does what is right in one's eyes. J But woe to those who quote His name but did not bother to seek Him. Paul was a controversial religionist in those days. He was flung from His horse to the ground and soon after knowing Who this controversial Person was, wrote many books about Jesus. Even more than his colleagues the Disciples who were with the Lord. He (Paul) writes: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Letter to the Philipian church chapter 2 Verses 10-11. Will this every knee words apply to us today? We live in a holly bolly rolly world. Jesus is the Rock and you could be in His roll...stop using His Name in vain. Today, His name is still controversial just like those days or 2000 years ago. I read a sticker pasted on a car bumper: It said: WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIM - JESUS CHRIST These very words in the sticker can raise a controversy. It implies that those who do not seek Him are FOOLS! Someone could smash the windscreen of this car as his/hers sentiments are hurt. is there any law book to describe what kind of sentiments are right, wrong,l lawful etc? Then the matter could be taken to court. Or are we or could we march towards Sharia law? [Goanet] Objectionable picture of Jesus Christ

That portrait of Jesus that we find in the Churches in Goa was based on both ignorance of the Portuguese as well as an attempt by the European colonial powers to prove their superiority, what I would call a political Jesus. Forensic scientists have developed a likeness of Jesus; it was published some years ago in the National Geographic and those who are interested can see it here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/health/forensics/1282186 Regards Bernardo E. de Sousa RESPONSE: The insinuation That portrait of Jesus that we find in the Churches in Goa was based on both ignorance of the Portuguese as well as an attempt by the European colonial powers to prove their superiority, is malicious, contemptuous and baseless. Nowhere at the site provided is it stated that Portugal has created the portraits of Jesus. The images, Idols and portraits in Goa are mostly from Italy, and all over Europe similar portraits and images exist. Bernardo Souza seems to have an axe to grind. But his roundabout and directionless approach is futile. Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.
