*KICK-OFF IN GOA IS AT 6PM*

*‘NEXT GENERATION’ INDIA STAY UNITED AGAINST FELDA*

*By Nilanjan Datta, AIFF Media Team*

*VASCO (GOA):* A couple of days after the Indian Senior National Team
played Nepal in preparation for their forthcoming Russia 2018 World Cup
Qualifiers against ‘Giants of Asia,’ Iran, the ‘next generation,’ gears up
to take on Felda United FC, Malaysia, in the first home match of the
FAM-Frenz Asia Champions Trophy 2015 at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco on
Wednesday (September 2).

The match kicks-off at 6pm.

The Champions Trophy, an unique concept where U-19 Teams play on a home and
away basis provides the Players “excellent exposure” to play against
different oppositions and most important, in different environments – a
concept, which is quite new to Asia, even though such Tournaments stay in
prevalence in abundance in Europe.

Head Coach Lee Johnson, a former Coach with Crystal Palace Academy and
Chelsea Aademy maintained “it’s a must win match us.”

Speaking at the Official Pre-match Media Interaction at the Tilak Maidan
post training, Johnson stressed the Players need to develop the “wining
mentality.”

“I want to instill the belief that they can go out and do it. We have got
some players back from squad which played in the SAFF U-19 Championship,”
he informed.

But at the same time, Vinit Rai has gone back to Dempo SC while Milan
Basumataray and Rakesh Oram are nursing injuries. Furthermore, Thakima
Ralte stays suspended for the match.

“The intention is to play more in such Competitions. This is such a
competitive environment and facilitates development. We have been training
since July and had to split the group into two squads as the ACT and the
SAFF U-19 were on simultaneously,” Johnson said.

“Looking back, the squad which went into the SAFF U-19 Championship wasn’t
our strongest side. In fact, there were nine U-17 Players who represented
India in the SAFF U-19 Championship. The entire idea was to give them
experience and see how they react,” Johnson echoed. “The result could have
been much more different if we had sent our strongest contingent.”

Travelling in such a Tournament is always hectic and that’s what the
Players need to cope up with. Isn’t it all part of the growing up?

“When we travelled to Malaysia, we travelled for 17 hours and played the
next day. For the next match, we travelled 19 hours to Thailand. Such
schedules always have an impact on how a Team plays,” Johnson felt.

The India U19 side at the moment stays on 1 point from two away matches.
While in the first match, Johnson’s boys drew goalless against Felda United
FC, they went down 2-4 to Chonburi FC in the next match.

“This is our backyard and we have the home advantage this time. I have told
the boys to think this about being your own Castle,” Lee declared.

“We have been sharp in our training and hoping the Players enact the same
in the match. But you can’t commit anything till you do it on the field.
The last time we played them, we couldn’t capitalize on our chances.”

“This is the next generation of Indian Players,” Johnson certified.
“Potentially, they are good enough and I feel it’s not distant that they
may step into the National squad. My aim as a Coach is as much to get
results and develop at the same time.”

The British Coach also made a mention of the two practice matches which his
side played against Bengaluru FC. “I need to thank the Club for providing
us the opportunity. It was a massive experience for the boys as it’s not
every day that you get to play against 7-8 International Players,” he
pronounced.

“In both the matches, the Players surprised me by the manner in which they
played in the first half. But we lost a bit of discipline and concentration
in the second halves (in both the matches). That’s understandable as you
were playing with some of the best of the Country.”

“There were so many positives from the fixture.”

[Goanet] COMPLAINT FILED OVER SELECTION OF BJP KARYAKARTAS AS CIC & SIC

2015-09-01 Thread Aires Rodrigues
A complaint has been filed today with the Chief Secretary of Goa against
the selection of Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar for the post of Chief
Information Commissioner and Juino de Souza as State Information
Commissioner alleging that it was clearly contrary to the very provisions
of the Right to Information Act.

Section 15(6) of the Right to Information Act mandates that the Chief
Information Commissioner and the State Information Commissioner shall be
persons not connected with any political party, but Prashant Prabhu
Tendolkar and Juino de Souza are both very closely connected to the BJP.

Section 15(5) of the Right to Information Act also mandates that the Chief
Information Commissioner and the State Information Commissioner shall be
persons of eminence in public life. Only a thorough Intelligence Bureau
(IB) check on Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar and Juino de Souza will reveal the
impediments to them occupying these high posts which mandatorily require
eminence in public life which the two clearly do not possess.

After the BJP came to power Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar an Advocate from
Ponda was in September 2013 appointed as the Additional President of Goa
Administrative Tribunal and retired in February this year on attaining the
age of 60. The very fact that he was appointed to that post very close to
his retirement age, was possibly a launching pad to get him later appointed
as Chief Information Commissioner. There needs to be a probe into the huge
assets acquired by Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar and his family over the last
few years. Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar is also known to be a leading broker
in mega land deals including the 5 crore property acquired at Darbhandora
by Anand Wachasundar the accused in the infamous Louis Berger-JICA case.

On the BJP coming to power its other Karyakarta Juino de Souza was
accommodated as Member of the Executive Board of Goa University and also
Member of the Executive Board of Institute Menezes Braganza while
continuing to be very closely connected with the BJP. By an order 6th
December 2006 the Bombay High Court at Goa had directed that Juino de Souza
be assessed by a Psychiatrist and that by another order dated 20th December
2006 the High Court opined that he should continue visiting a
Psychiatrist.

The selection process of Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar for the post of Chief
Information Commissioner and Juino de Souza as State Information
Commissioners lacked transparency. It was very obviously a stage managed
mere eyewash to accommodate them to these plump positions on account of
their very close links with the BJP.

As the Central Government and other State Governments have been conducting
an IB check to ascertain the background of the persons selected for the
posts of Information Commissioners, it is imperative that the Goa
Government also follow suit so that unscrupulous persons do not end up
occupying these crucial posts. Government should realize that these posts
are important positions in the scheme of the RTI Act and not a mere
Corporation where party workers and supporters are to be accommodated.

To ensure proper implementation of the Right to Information Act, the State
Information Commission should comprise of independent minded persons who
do not succumb to the pulls and pressures of the politicians in power.

[Goanet] Honouring Teachers

2015-09-01 Thread Nelson Lopes
Honouring Teachers

5 Sept every year is celebrated as Teachers day, coinciding with
remembrance of Dr S RadhaKrishnan. It is finally turned into annual ritual
shone off its original glare and luster, Now there many other days in a
year like Fathers , mothers , nurses, grandparents etc are more are added
to the list The grateful Nation intended to appreciate and Honour teachers
at State and National level It did stress the significant impact on the
young lives by the teacher in formal educational setup. With changing
times one is inclined to believe that it is a profession just like any
other and the sanctity has evaporated The awards are a lure for some
financial gains, extension of service by one year and public recognition
of a few among thousands unsung educators, which appears as exceptional. No
where the list of applicants are provided or the reasons of selecting
process under the guise of confidentiality, which is absurd and does not
inspire and ignite the passion of those left out. There is a selection
committee of eminent persons and set criteria for public consumption, but
they are subjected to unconfirmed political maneuvering. Increase in number
of awards in proportion to the multitudes of teaching community would be in
all fairness justified. The awards are categorized as per religious
affiliations, caste and levels of educational ladder, It is an appeasement
strategy by the politicians to derive mileage later, What happens when the
management refuses extension in service of one year as their prerogative,
when only condition is fitness, after superannuation, which could be
certified by the Medical Board, if needed’.

Many deserving teachers with exemplary qualifications, merit and public
service, commitment and dedication are left out in the cold, because such
awards are tinged with political influence , pressure and favoritism and
therefore these awards many times are worthless in the eyes of the teaching
fraternity True such individuals do not work with eye on state and
National recognition, which in any way eludes so many The past students are
real repositories of deserving teachers, but they have no say to be involved

One would rightly expect that a detail booklet on the achievements of
selected teachers at state and National level be provided to every
institution for record, information, appreciation and to serve as role
models, Very scanty details are published and the press is also not
interested to devote space any more The glare and glamour of ceremonial
distribution is all that is the highlight of the function, Students hold
functions honouring teachers with forced contributions and flowers as a
rule. They run the classes getting the feel for a day bout the
responsibilities of teachers and then spread in the society begging alms
for those indigent teachers crying for financial support. Presently many
social organizations .NGO`s, PTA`s, Industrial establishments etc are
filling the void, uplifting the spirit of teachers in their humble way and
it is a welcome sign of neglect of the vast majority

The grateful society and impacted student community treasure their
loving educators in their hearts and minds for ever building monuments to
their eternal glory for what they are to day.

*‘IT’S A LEARNING PROCESS’*

*We Created Many Chances Against Nepal: Constantine *

*AIFF Media Team*

*PUNE:* Indian National Coach Stephen Constantine stressed on to importance
of exposure matches following a goalless stalemate against Nepal today
(August 31, 2015) in Balewadi, Pune.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Constantine said: “It’s a
learning process, we created many chances and we dint score. It is as
simple as that. We have learned a great deal from the match and that is
what International Friendlies are for-- you get to see who plays and who
does not”

“I had expected this kind of game against Nepal and we lost momentum in the
second half. And we tried different players in different positions, and
that is another advantage of these Friendly games”

“The Indian Team has had a 9 days training camp, as compared to Nepal, who
had been practicing for six weeks”, Constantine quipped.

“If given time, I can bet that this Team will perform”

India takes on Iran in the World Cup Qualifiers next on September 08,
2015. And reflecting upon the Irani opponents, Constantine echoed, “You
will not get many chances against Iran. But the plus side is that we
created almost 3-4 clear chances. Had we scored, we would’ve won”

“Rowlin (Borges) was the best Player in the second half and Pronoy (Halder)
was the same in the first. One of the reasons of substituting Pronoy was
that he had been booked”, said the British Coach assessing the performance
of India against Nepal.

“Both Sunil and Robin are players who are very hard-working. And sometimes
you just don’t click. It happens, that is what Football is all about”

“Some players had run 6-6.5kms in the first half. And that is what I like
in my Teams. They should be hardworking”, Constantine informed.

Talking about the dexterity of the Indian Team, Dhurba KC, Coach of the
Nepal National Team stated that India were worthy opponents.

“The Indian Team was very tough on the pitch. It was evident through their
style of play.I am happy with a draw, as a draw against India can be
counted as a good result”, he said earlier in the post-match press
conference.

The Indian National Team had been training at the DSK Shivajian’s Training
facilities from August 23, 2015. Thanking the DSK contingent, Constantine
said, “My special gratitude to the guys at DSK for organizing a brilliant
camp. I wish camps like this were all across India”

“I would also like to thank the Media and the fans who supported and
cheered for the Team”, the British Coach concluded.

Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation' (cfr letter and other details below)
This day is significant on several counts: it will help focus once again on the
path-breaking Encyclical of Pope Francis 'Laudato Si: On the Care of our Common
Home' which was released a little over two months ago; it will reiterate the
Christian position that to be true witnesses of Christ in the world of today,
we need to respond to the ecological crisis through a profound spiritual
conversion.
Christians are invited to also share this day with all men and women of
goodwill in our common endeavour on the 'Care of our Common Home'.
September also marks the month during which Pope Francis will address the US
Congress in Washington and then on September 25th in New York, he will be
addressing the UN General Assembly's Summit on the adoption of Sustainable
Development Goals. He is expected to focus on contentious environmental issues
in both his addresses.
The UN Summit is in fact seen as a preparation for the UN Climate Change
Conference (COP 21) which will be held in Paris beginning November 30th.
Let us celebrate September 1st in prayer and fellowship and towards greater
commitment to look at endemic issues which affect our common home.

Pope Francis announces World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation
Pope Francis announces a “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” -
REUTERS10/08/2015 11:35SHARE:(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has decided to set up
a “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” which will be celebrated on
September 1st annually. He made the announcement in a letter to the heads of the
Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the Pontifical Council for the
Promotion of Christian Unity.
Listen to Lydia O’Kane's reportBelow in English is Pope Francis'
letter announcing the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” To my
Venerable BrothersCardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah TURKSON, President of the
Pontifical Council for Justice and PeaceCardinal Kurt KOCH, President of the
Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian UnitySharing with my beloved
brother the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew his concerns for the future of
creation (cfr Encylical Letter. Laudato Si, 7-9) and taking up the suggestion
by his representative, the Metropolitan Ioannis of Pergamum who took part in
the presentation of the Encyclical Laudato Si on the care of our common home, I
wish to inform you that I have decided to set up also in the Catholic Church,
the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” which, beginning this year,
will be celebrated on the 1st of September, as the Orthodox Church has done for
some time now. As Christians we wish to offer our contribution towards
overcoming the ecological crisis which humanity is living through. Therefore,
first of all we must draw from our rich spiritual heritage the reasons which
feed our passion for the care of creation, always remembering that for
believers in Jesus Christ, the Word of God who became man for us, “the life of
the spirit is not dissociated from the body or from nature or from worldly
realities, but lived in and with them, in communion with all that surrounds
us.” (ibid., 216). The ecological crisis therefore calls us to a profound
spiritual conversion: Christians are called to “an ecological conversion
whereby the effects of their encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in
their relationship with the world around them.” (ibid., 217). Thus, “living
our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of
virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian
experience.”(ibid).The annual World Day of prayer for the Care of Creation
offers to individual believers and to the community a precious opportunity to
renew our personal participation in this vocation as custodians of creation,
raising to God our thanks for the marvellous works that He has entrusted to our
care, invoking his help for the protection of creation and his mercy for the
sins committed against the world in which we live. The celebration of the Day
on the same date as the Orthodox Church will be a valuable opportunity to bear
witness to our growing communion with our orthodox brothers. We live in a
time where all Christians are faced with identical and important challenges and
we must give common replies to these in order to appear more credible and
