BISMARQUE AND THE TALK ON HIS DEPRESSION

By: Stephen Dias, Dona Paula

Hema Sardessai reports in print media as well as in local TV channels on
Fr.Bismarque Dias about her acquaintance with him from the beginning so
that no one dares to attack or disagree with what she says. “Fine” Let us
hope whatever she said is true.

Let me quote one of her “Para” which appeared in one of the section of the
Press:-

*“ All Fr. Bismarque's true friends know what his state of mind was and
that he was under medication and anti-depressant , I did not say it was
suicide. I am pushing the case to be pursued as murder. I will not tolerate
any one trying to mess with the name of Fr. Bismarque enough of your false
show of love. But I assure you that Hema will not rest till there is
justice for it.”*

In reply to the above quote, I have to state as under:

If Hema is so sure that Fr. Bismarque was on anti-depressant medication,
then perhaps she can reveal the name of this medicine and which psychiatric
doctor has recommended and where and when was the medicine purchased
because depression drugs are of “H” schedule and cannot be sold without
prescription from a qualified psychiatric doctor.

I am putting this to Hema because there are many versions and one of that
was told by Mr. Chris in the presence of his and my friend Dr. Joe D’Sousa
on 23th Nov.,near Café Bhonsuile, Panjim, which is a destructive rumour
that he was taking a tablet called “TACID” for anti-depression and when I
checked up on the Google, I found that it was Mycophenolic acid delayed
released tablet for immunosuppressant treatment.

Therefore, the name of the Medicine with Doctor’s prescription and the
place and the name of the pharmacy need to be specified. If that particular
Doctor who treated him is willing to be a part of the investigation before
the Crime Branch or the CBI, his name may be considered by the Government.
If possible, scan these medical receipts and the doctor’s prescription and
send them to the print media for publication.

This will clear the doubts in the mind of the people, and I need to say as
follows: -

1. Let me say with confidence that I have taken and still taking care of
quite a number of psychiatric patients but I am not tom toming about it,
because it is a very delicate issue for Goa and Goans.

2. However Hema has to clearly specify which tablet or medicine Fr.
Bismarque was taking because she has claimed she was also a victim of
depression and surely must have shed her experiences and also received some
inputs from Fr. Bismarque’s line of treatment. Therefore, I suggest that
she should reveal the name/s of the medicine/s for his treatment.

I also being close to Fr. Bismarque and his family, I say that they are not
aware whether Fr. Bismarque was under medical psychiatric treatment. The
mother, the brother, and the sister-in-law, and all the family members of
Fr. Bismarque are denying on the psychiatric medical treatment taken by
Fr.Bismarque. Now here itself there are two versions. This needs to be
probed. I am in constant touch with his family and so far I have never
heard a single thing of any kind of depression treatment being taken by
Father. On the same day i.e. on 23rd Nov. 2015 when I had an argument with
Mr. Chris and his friends on the same day, I, alongwith my friend, Dr. Joe
D’Sousa, happened to meet Fr. Bismarque’s brother and his sister- in -law
who came at Café Bhonsule, Panjim, and they said that the news coming in
the paper “The Goan” that Bismarque was on depression drugs, was totally
false.

3.Gates of Hell are open with the best of intentions. Hema intentions
may be good but real estates agents, mine owners and land mafia brokers
will be happy to misread Hema utterances to give Fr. Bismarque a bad name
just as we say “ Give a good dog a bad name and shoot him”.

4.Already “The Goan”, according to me Anti-Goan newspaper, is bent on
giving Fr. Bismarque a bad name and Ms. Hema has fallen into a trap
unknowingly.

Dear Hema, I am prepared to discuss with you in the best interest of Fr.
Bismarque on this issue, anytime, anywhere and also in the interest of Goa
and Goans, as Fr. Bismarque was a good friend of many people, including you
and me.

Re: [Goanet] WILL MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT BE SHUNTED OUT FROM PANJIM BY PARRIKAR BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY?

2015-11-25 Thread Stephen Dias
 Dear Sidharth Kunkolienkar,

MLA of Panjim

Thanks for your explanation.

I was really terrified and surprised that you never realized the fate of
civilians in India.

Whole topic started because Army men are occupying central position in our
city of Panjim because we could solve our parking problem, our mobility and
other problems like garbage etc to keep away all barracks and use it to
make Smart City in terms of transport, mobility, garbage and e-governance.

So, we have given lots of sacrifices to keep the army happy, however we are
suffering due to unauthorized presence of this army establishment in the
city.

We, ( means India,) give army fat salary, "OROP" ,( One Rank one Pension),
we give them free land, and all the privileges but we civilians suffer.

They can kill enemy and not to be killed , I repeat they are supposed to
kill the enemy and not to be killed that is their goal. Whereas the
scientists/engineers or professors or doctors can get cancer due to
radiation, paralysis due to chemicals, etc, aids etc because the germs and
the chemicals can cause accident at any time, Ex; Bhopal tragedy etc

Army people are fully aware of the enemy, they have to outsmart them and
win battles. We are spending 1/3 of our budget to keep our army and with
modernized equipment, which Parrikar is having a tough time to make
available, therefore please do not TOM TOM about army sacrifices, they are
doing their duty and they are well paid for it and also compensated,
whereas when we meet with tragedy accident, nobody boders us, and are
mostly without recognition just like Fr. Bismarque, Dabodkar, Pansare,
Prof. Kalburgi etc.

I do not want to carry this issue further because you don’t recognize value
of civilian votes which has made you an MLA and you will realize this in
future.

As long as Army establishment is in the city of Panjim , we will never
achieve a "TRUE" SMART CITY even after spending crores of rupees.

Hope I will be alive to see all this tamasha.

My dear Stephen,

While I understand any prevailing frustrations, I was unhappy with the tone of
your post, esp the heading. Accordingly, as much as I am ambivalent about the
often gaseous and self-serving spouting of politicians, I believe that both Mr.
Kuncalienkar and Mr. Chauhan have made very valid points.

Surely, the citizens have to be appropriately consulted before land is taken
away from them. However, one cannot and should not be offensive towards the
very individuals who are charged with the responsibility of protecting us.

That brings me to three other points: (1) Members of the armed forces are NOT
the only ones who face dangers while the rest of us 'Sleep in Air Conditioned
Comfort'. Doctors and other health care professionals also expose themselves
to severe life-threatening infections every single day and night. And so do
their families! Similarly, Garbage disposal , Electricity and Construction
workers (to name a few) face enormous dangers for the rest of us. (2) It is
important that we look after them too in a similar fashion. (3) Just imagine
what sort of country (and Life) we would have had without ALL these 'workers'.

The question is: When last have you heard a politician take up their (these
workers) cause ?

Thank you all for your attention.

Unfortunately I was bombarded by you, NIO one army man. I had no intention
to insult army men but my main interest is that Panjim to be a Smart
city by requesting army to vacate Panjim, and go somewhere else any part
of the state of Goa..

[Goanet] NOV 21ST POLICE ATROCITY AT PANAJI: GHRC SUMMONS CS AND DGP

2015-11-25 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The Goa Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary
of Goa and the Director General of Police on the complaint filed over the 21
st November police atrocity against peaceful demonstrators at Panaji.

The three member Goa Human Rights Commission headed by Justice
P.K.Misra and comprising of retired District Judge A.D. Salkar and Mr.
J.A.Keny has directed the Chief Secretary and the Director General of
Police to appear before the Commission on 13th of January 2016.

In the complaint the attention of the Commission has been drawn to the
police atrocity against the November 21st peaceful protest by individual
citizens held at Panaji demanding a free, fair and impartial probe into the
recent sudden death of activist priest Fr. Bismarque Dias.

The Goa Police personnel very high-handedly abused their powers and used
excessive criminal force and manhandled the protesters without any
provocation. The peaceful protestors came to be manhandled and arrested
though they had not infracted the provisions of Section 144. Even innocent
bystanders including Senior Citizens and women came to be ruffled and
arrested by the police.

Submitted to the Commission are copies of newspaper reports and 23
photographs showing citizens being manhandled by the police.

It has been sought that the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police
be directed to explain as to how they had in violation of Human Rights
allowed the peaceful protesters to be manhandled so inhumanly.

Re: [Goanet] WILL MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT BE SHUNTED OUT FROM PANJIM BY PARRIKAR BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY?

2015-11-25 Thread Sidharth Kuncalienker
Dear Stephen-bab,

As much you would like me to disregard the armed forces and the great
selfless work that they put in, let me once again reiterate that I hold the
defence forces of our country in extremely high regard.

They willingly surrender everyday peace, comfortable location of work and
cosy homes so that civilians like you and me can enjoy their peaceful sleep.

It is extremely regrettable that you say you are experienced but unable to
understand their self less work. When a scientist or an engineer or a
doctor goes out on their work assignment, they very well know at the back
of their mind that the chemicals they work with or machine that is being
worked on or a patient that is being treated is not out there to harm them
intentionally. However when a soldier goes out to protect our borders, he
knows very well that there is an enemy waiting for him to fire his bullet
to take life out of him.

I would really appreciate if you could use your energy towards positive
work. let me bring to your notice that we started this conversation on
smart city initiatives, but unfortunately landed with gross political
slugfest, demeaning our armed valiant forces.

I will happily engage with you for any constructive and positive work,
however I consider this present conversation over from my end.

With best regards

[Goanet] Worth reading: Meet My Muslim Friend (Don't Worry He Doesn't Want to Kill You)

2015-11-25 Thread Robin Viegas
From: b sabha

http://www.christianpost.com/news/meet-my-muslim-friend-dont-worry-he-doesnt-want-to-kill-you-150342/

[Muslim Christian
dialogue]

U.S, November 18, 2015: One afternoon this past October, I was sitting at the
bar in a packed out Starbucks when a young, Middle Eastern man tapped me on the
shoulder. “Is it okay if I sit here?” he asked in a thick accent, pointing at
the chair to my immediate right.

I nodded my head and told him that was absolutely okay. I was kind of taken
aback that he had even asked. Most people would have quickly hopped up into
that chair without a word (seats at Starbucks are hard to come by!).

I scooted over to give him some room as he situated himself and pulled some
materials out of his bag — an iPhone and a spiral notebook. Being the nosey
person that I am, I eyed the content of his notebook as he flipped through the
pages. I saw lots and lots of written lines — one sentence written in a foreign
language, the next sentence written in English — repeated continually down each
piece of paper. The thick accent combined with what looked to be efforts to
learn the English language led me to suspect he had just freshly landed on
American soil.

“Sir?” he whispered, stretching out his hand timidly to get my attention, “I’m
sorry to interrupt you, but could you help me understand how to connect to this
place’s Internet?”

After I walked him through connecting to the Starbucks Wi-Fi, he gave me some
dap (fist bump), thanked me, and introduced himself, “My name is Ibrahim. It’s
nice to meet you.”

For the next hour and a half, Ibrahim and I chatted about many different
things. He told me he was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where his
entire family still lives. He grinned from ear to ear as he told me about his
hardworking father who has made sacrifice after sacrifice to ensure Ibrahim
could come to the U.S. for his college education. And his mother — he could
have gone on for days about his love for his mother! It was evident from just
the first fifteen minutes of talking with Ibrahim that he loved and missed his
family intensely.

As we continued to chitchat, he mentioned something in passing about prayer. I
guess he saw my eyes light up because he paused in mid-sentence and then
backtracked a bit.

“You know that I am Muslim, right? Is that okay with you?” he asked.

I could sense the hesitation in his voice and suspected that he had already
faced some uncomfortable situations because of his ethnicity and religion. I’ve
spent my entire life in the ultra-conservative, right wing South and know well
the judgmental, suspicious attitudes many hold toward Muslims.

“Of course it’s okay with me,” I reassured him. “I mean, I’m a Christian and I
don’t believe Islam is the truth, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.”

He smiled and gave me some dap, again. He seemed super pleased, and I think a
bit shocked, at my response. To show him all the more I was tolerant (in the
true sense of the word) of his religion, I began to ask him questions about his
beliefs and practices. The remainder of our conversation was spent gently,
respectfully, and dare I say it — lovingly — dialoguing about Islam,
Christianity, and the differences between the two.

As has been true of every Muslim person I have ever met, Ibrahim’s devotion to
Allah is something to be marveled at. After I commended him for his devotion
(and told him all the devotion in the world can’t make something true and right
if it’s not true and right), Ibrahim was quick to say that his practice of
Islam is one filled with love, peace, mercy, forgiveness, and tolerance.

I’ve read portions of the Quran and don’t think you can really be loving,
peaceful, merciful, forgiving, and tolerant to all if you really wish to obey
all of its commands. However, I decided not to point this out in that moment,
because I sensed what he was trying to get at and didn’t want to detract from
his point. I think Ibrahim was contrasting himself against the “devout” Islamic
radical extremists like ISIS. I think he wanted to make sure I knew he wasn’t
one of them.

Ibrahim is Muslim, but he doesn’t hate people who aren’t. He isn’t some crazy,
suicide-bombing maniac. He is just Ibrahim — a nineteen year old young man from
the other side of the world who wants to worship Allah and also be friends with
people who don’t. When I walked away from the conversation with my new friend
that day, I knew he wanted me to know above all else that he was just a nice,
regular guy.

My intent today is not to wade into political waters. There are enough folks
getting into all that. I wrote this blog merely to remind my American friends
that the overwhelming majority of Muslim people are just people, not killers. I
have taken massive issue over the last few days with the way many fearful
Westerners are vilifying an

Dear Dias,

I am sad to read this message. With due regret I inform you that you have
insulted the brave army men of the country. You are also getting OROP now. I
feel one should be rather sensitive. The piece of land belongs to our nation
which does provides all the facility to Goa as well.

I feel you should respect the army and all other defense personnel who remain
awake in hostile conditions for better part of their life. Please compare your
salary and comfort of an AC rooms before commenting on others.

One must salute the supreme selfless sacrifice of soldiers, who leave behind
their entire family to suffer.

Dear Sidharth Kunkolienkar,
MLA of Panjim

Thanks for your explanation.
I was really terrified and surprised that you never realized the fate of
civilians in India.
Whole topic started because Army men are occupying central position in our city
of Panjim because we could solve our parking problem, our mobility and other
problems like garbage etc to keep away all barracks and use it to make Smart
City in terms of transport, mobility, garbage and e-governance.
So, we have given lots of sacrifices to keep the army happy, however we are
suffering due to unauthorized presence of this army establishment in the city.
We, ( means India,) give army fat salary, "OROP" ,( One Rank one Pension), we
give them free land, and all the privileges but we civilians suffer.
They can kill enemy and not to be killed , I repeat they are supposed to kill
the enemy and not to be killed that is their goal. Whereas the
scientists/engineers or professors or doctors can get cancer due to radiation,
paralysis due to chemicals, etc, aids etc because the germs and the chemicals
can cause accident at any time, Ex; Bhopal tragedy etc
Army people are fully aware of the enemy, they have to outsmart them and win
battles. We are spending 1/3 of our budget to keep our army and with modernized
equipment, which Parrikar is having a tough time to make available, therefore
please do not TOM TOM about army sacrifices, they are doing their duty and they
are well paid for it and also compensated, whereas when we meet with tragedy
accident, nobody boders us, and are mostly without recognition just like Fr.
Bismarque, Dabodkar, Pansare, Prof. Kalburgi etc.
I do not want to carry this issue further because you don’t recognize value of
civilian votes which has made you an MLA and you will realize this in future.
As long as Army establishment is in the city of Panjim , we will never achieve
a "TRUE" SMART CITY even after spending crores of rupees.
Hope I will be alive to see all this tamasha.

ENTER HEMA SARDESSAI

It is largely perceived that she has done more disservice to her professed
relationship with Fr, than further cause for his justice . Her advice and
monetary help has been politely refused by father for obvious reasons of
misplaced concerns. It appears the she is the only wise person judging the
demise of fr with coloured blinkers. Is she the personal physician of
Fr vexing eloquent on his state of depressions, medication unknown to
other close acquaintances, thus imputing motives and introducing a needless
slant to his death? Eminent physician, Dr Francisco, who was also in
intimate contact with Fr has debunked this devious, malicious propaganda to
fuel the planned conspiracy., What is she seeking cheap publicity to rise
on the death of Fr,? She is adding insult to injury, giving un ceremonial
burial to her friend., When she seemed to be associated with him in the
initial stages was she entering political stage to bolster her own sagging
image and overcome personal state of depression? Her absurd mathematical
computational statics of 10% is ludicrous. It is no big service contacting
high and mighty in political arena, it is akin to throwing water on ducks
back who did nothing, until the mass rising in sympathy for the integrity,
character of Fr. Or is she under. Illusion that the steps now taken by
the Govt are due to her personal intervention, influence alone? That
people are seeking political mileage is laughable and as a close friend
she is unable to visualize what the massive sympathy for Fr. Inspiring
silently much more in death? , What is Hema capitalizing at her press
statements, fame and limelight in the midst of tragedy or she is a willing
tool of mudslinging mudding waters.? When she joined him was she seeking
also some nitch in political platform? Respectable individuals like
Nandkumar Kamat, Joe DSouza, Teononio D Souza , founder of warrior group
have all set the records right for those doubtful Thomase`s. Hema
unfortunately is playing into the hands of distracters by her premature,
uncalled for utterances maligning father, her friend. Mysterious death is
not the right moment to fuel major controversies , giving a handle to all
concerned. The outpouring of grief, editorial comments, views expressed by
various writers, FB posts public meetings , candle light vigils, condolence
church meetings et al is more than expected for and in times the chorus
will grow larger, She has no word for the police brutality on peaceful
protestors, instead of ridiculing the movement for justice to Fr. Nobody
denies her standing, reputation in her chosen field, but her act she has
lowered herself in the eyes of Goans at large. One is forced to surmise
that she is willing agent of diversionary startegy

Father was an active member of singing warrior group and a movement of
novel protest. Hema as a singer could have at the best conducted singing
rallies in honour of her friend Fr Bismarque to pay respect to his memory
so dear to her Disappointingly. Hema has tumbled from the high platform of
her profession by adding salt to the wounds of those thousands of Goans
across the world who genuinely believe that there is more than that meets
the eyes in this episode, Hema please sing, compose in honour of father,
which you are best at professionally and apologize for your un called for
analysis, knowledge of Fr, that is not in sync with the reality and general
public perception

Socialist Leader António Costa Is Named as Portugal’s Prime Minister

Portugal becomes the second eurozone country this year to rebel against EU
belt-tightening rules

LISBON -- Portugal’s president on Tuesday appointed anti-austerity
Socialist leaderAntónio Costa as prime minister in a move that ends weeks
of political turmoil but opens the door to a period of economic uncertainty.

The ascent of 54-year-old Mr. Costa, the former mayor of Lisbon, makes
Portugal the second eurozone country this year after Greece to rebel
against a belt-tightening recipe imposed on troubled Southern European
economies by the European Union’s executive arm. Greece’s rebellion, which
started with the election of far-left Syriza party in January, has been
short-lived, with the government now imposing austerity measures to meet
the terms of its latest EU bailout.

Mr. Costa, who has formed a parliamentary alliance with three euroskeptic
far-left parties, will also face challenges making good on his pledges to
increase public wages and unfreeze pensions. Such was the concern of the
Portuguese political establishment over the proposals that President Aníbal
Cavaco Silva on Monday insisted that Mr. Costa adhere to six conditions,
including maintaining a tight budget and strong banking system, before he
named him as prime minister.

‘A true coup d’état’
-- Former Portugal Finance Minister Manuela Ferreira Leite

Mr. Costa’s appointment comes weeks after Oct. 4 national elections in
which the center-right coalition of incumbent Prime Minister Pedro Passos
Coelho won the most seats in parliament, but lost its majority there. Mr.
Cavaco Silva, who once headed Mr. Passos Coelho’s Social Democratic Party,
reappointed the prime minister, but his government collapsed 11 days later
as its program was voted down in parliament by the center-left Socialists
and the three leftist parties.

On Tuesday morning, Mr. Cavaco Silva met Mr. Costa for the second time in
two days. After the meeting, the president issued a terse statement in
which he said he taken “due note” of the answers Mr. Costa had provided to
his six governing conditions, and had decided to appoint him prime minister.

Mr. Costa’s administration will be the first Portuguese government
supported by far-left parties in the country’s four decades of democratic
rule. It results from weeks of negotiations between Mr. Costa and the
leaders of the Communist, Green and Left Bloc parties. Mr. Costa likened
the process to “tearing down the last remains of a Berlin Wall.”

Mr. Costa’s ambitious political deal-making has surprised few close to him.
A lawyer who is the son of a Goa-descendent poet and Communist militant,
Mr. Costa has shown a penchant for creative gambits throughout his
decadeslong political career.

In 1993, when he ran for mayor of a small town, he organized a race between
a red Ferrari and a donkey through traffic-clogged streets to show the
region needed a metro line. The donkey won, although Mr. Costa lost to the
Communists by a small margin. Mr. Costa went on hold three ministry posts
in Socialist governments, including head of internal affairs under former
Prime Minister José Sócrates between 2005 and 2007, and to a successful run
for mayor of Lisbon in 2007. The just-named prime minister, who was elected
for a second term as Lisbon’s mayor in 2013, took over the Socialist
leadership last year following an internal power fight with the then
President António José Seguro.

After the Oct. 4 vote, Mr. Costa seemed set to quit. In a speech, he said
he wouldn’t stand on the ruling coalition’s way unless other leftist
parties in parliament agreed to form a majority behind the Socialists’ own
pro-EU program. Such a pact seemed a long shot during the campaign. Left
leaders criticized the Socialists for using anti-austerity rhetoric while
ignoring the need for a restructuring of the country’s high debt. Mr.
Costa, meanwhile, accused the far-left of having “fantasies of
nationalization.”

But the Communists and the Left Bloc were eager to end Mr. Passos Coelho’s
government and that made them unusually open toward an agreement, political
analysts say.

João Galamba, vice president of the Socialist parliamentary group, said his
party made clear that others would have to accept working off the budget
spreadsheet drawn up by the Socialists. Despite h
