[Goanet] MANOHAR PARRIKAR’S BIRTHDAY BASH ESTIMATED TO COST 70 CRORES

2015-12-11 Thread Aires Rodrigues
We are all entitled to celebrate our birthdays and nobody can have an issue
over it. But the quandary with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s
60th birthday
bash scheduled to be held at the SAG ground in Panaji on December 13th is
that the government machinery is also working overtime to ensure the
success of this sponsored occasion.

A coterie of BJP leaders and some Senior government officers have been
entrusted the task of coercing Casino operators, builders and other
businessmen to generously pitch in. It is nothing short of extortion. The
party is working in full gear to somehow mobilize 50,000 people to attend
and they will be provided free transport and food besides Rs 2000/- per
head. Attempts are on to also transport people from the neighboring states
of Karnataka and Maharashtra. A coffee table book on Manohar Parrikar will
also be released with 20 persons asked to write articles eulogizing Manohar
Parrikar. The entire show is estimated to be costing around 70 crores.
Under the guise of Manohar Parrikar’s birthday celebration, the occasion is
being planned by the BJP as an unofficial launch of the election campaign
for the 2017 Goa Legislative Assembly elections.

Kochi:

A Catholic priest has been arrested for allegedly sodomizing a 13-year old boy
in Bombay Archdiocese.

Mumbai police arrested Father Lawrence Johnson, 51, accused of abusing the boy
on Nov. 27 at Christ the King Church parish, archdiocesan spokesman Father
Nigel Barret told ucanews.com Dec. 7.

The priest is "now under judicial custody," Father Barret said adding that
Father Johnson was arrested Dec. 1 following complaints from the alleged
victim's family.

"Representatives of the archdiocese have met with the victim and his family ...
All assistance is currently being rendered to the victim's family," Father
Barret said.

The case is the first reported case of clergy sex abuse since the church in
India put in effect on Nov. 1 a Vatican-approved procedure to deal with
allegations of sex abuse by Catholic clergy.

"The procedure has zero tolerance toward clergy sex abuses" and puts in place
stringent and transparent investigative methods, said Father Joseph Chinnayan,
deputy secretary general of the Indian bishops' conference.

Benchmark abuse case

Virginia Saldanha, a Catholic theologian and women's right activist, said
Catholic leaders across India will be watching how the archdiocese handles the
case.

"This is the first publicized case of child sex abuse by a member of clergy
(since the new procedures were put in place). It will surely be a benchmark on
how the church is prepared to deal with such cases," she told
ucanews.com.

Father Barret said the archdiocese will send the results of its investigation
to the Vatican to determine further canonical action. If found guilty, Father
Johnson will be defrocked or laicized, he said.

Saldanha, an outspoken activist on the rights of abuse victims, wondered why
church officials have not published for public consumption the procedural norms
on dealing with clergy abuses.

"The norms need to be published. That will show their earnestness to rout out
this crime of abuse," she said.

"Perhaps they fear publishing the norms will open a flood-gate of complaints of
sexual abuse," she added.

Vatican City:

On a cloudy, damp morning, Pope Francis' voice echoed in the atrium of St.
Peter's Basilica: "Open the gates of justice." With five strong thrusts, the
pope pushed open the Holy Door, a symbol of God's justice, which he said will
always be exercised "in the light of his mercy."

The rite of the opening of the Holy Door was preceded by a Mass with 70,000
pilgrims packed in St. Peter's Square Dec. 8, the feast of the Immaculate
Conception and the beginning of the extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy.

As the sun broke through the clouds, heralding the start of the jubilee year,
the pope bowed his head and remained still for several minutes in silent prayer.

Amid a crowd of dignitaries and pilgrims, a familiar face was also present at
the historic event: retired Pope Benedict XVI, who followed Pope Francis
through the Holy Door into St. Peter's Basilica.

During his homily, Pope Francis emphasized the "simple, yet highly symbolic"
act of opening the Holy Door, which "highlights the primacy of grace;" the same
grace that made Mary "worthy of becoming the mother of Christ."

"The fullness of grace can transform the human heart and enable it to do
something so great as to change the course of human history," he said.

The feast of the Immaculate Conception, he continued, serves as a reminder of
the grandeur of God's love in allowing Mary to "avert the original sin present
in every man and woman who comes into this world."

"This is the love of God which precedes, anticipates and saves," he said. "Were
sin the only thing that mattered, we would be the most desperate of creatures.
But the promised triumph of Christ's love enfolds everything in the Father's
mercy."

The Year of Mercy, the pope stressed, is a gift of grace that allows Christians
to experience the joy of encountering the transforming power of grace and
rediscovering God's infinite mercy toward sinners.

"How much wrong we do to God and his grace when we speak of sins being punished
by his judgment before we speak of their being forgiven by his mercy," he said.

"We have to put mercy before judgment, and in any event God's judgment will
always be in the light of his mercy. In passing through the Holy Door, then,
may we feel that we ourselves are part of this mystery of love."

Fifty years ago, he said, the church celebrated the "opening of another door,"
with the Second Vatican Council urging the church to come out from
self-enclosure and "set out once again with enthusiasm on her missionary
journey." The council closed Dec. 8, 1965.

2015-12-11 Thread Stephen Dias
Everything what Fr. Eremita Rebello, said is agreeable totally in the tunes
of people of Goa and all its issues mentioned in his Press note are in
toto. I would like to request the Convenor of GFDO to mentioned an another
issue that we have in Panjim at St Ines Creek where the water bodies have
been encroached and many high rise buildings have come up. The creek is
going narrow day by day and in certain places the constructions is seen
coming up directly on the creek, there are chances parts of Panjim will
be inundated or flooded within few years time, during the high tide and
sea level rise effect when meeting together especially in the monsoon,
which will be detrimental for the residents living nearby especially at
Camarabhat area in Taleigao where this area comes under the jurisdiction of
Taleigao Panchayat. Government of Goa, and Panjim MLA Sidharth Kuncolienkar
is closing their eyes because of vested interest are supporting these
constructions. The part of the sewage untreated by PWD Sewage Treatment
Plant, needs to be checked and I am afraid that is also been discharging
its sewage into the St Ines creek as it is clearly seen the black colour
of sea water with lots of pollution and all sort of garbage. I see everyday
a number of sewage tankers lining up on the roads nearby, waiting their
turn to the plant which are coming all over the Goa, and the PWD treatment
plant cannot manage such a load and thus it discharges into the creek. I
have a doubt that there exist any accountability of these tankers who are
seen off loading sewage into the plant. Moreover all the buildings
including huts nearby the creek, are seen mushrooming for Taleigao vote
bank, and the sewage is seen discharging directly into the Creek and the
health of residents staying nearby are breading this foul smell and their
health is deteriorated with malaria and respiratory diseases. I have been
told that many approach government land and open spaces has bee converted
into the approach road for the builders and the constructions have been
coming up, and this is also to be investigated.
Government of Goa under the leadership of Laxmikant Parsekar must open
their eyes before it is too late and monitoring is required as well as an
inquiry must be instituted.

Could you please send me a list of your titles so I can order a few that

[Goanet] SPECIAL PEOPLE - Tadeu L M Gracias -[People's Edit- H] - COMMENTS

2015-12-11 Thread Florian Lobo
http://www.epaperoheraldo.in/Details.aspx?id=17386=164423352==12/12/2015

*COMMENTS:*

After going through the above, we invested in a call to one Mr. Gracias
[south Goa] whom we had chatted up a long time ago and who is ex-SP of
the Goa Police. But it is not him who is the author of the above article,
a very beautifully written analysis of our political system, that we
could congratulate him for. At Goa Su-Raj Party, we believe that there are
two types of persons who come forward to contest elections, either on
party tickets or as independents. Those who would want to put some
discipline into the political system and industriously utilize the
tax-payer's hard earned money to improve their lives [sans themselves
growing fat on this largesse which is most often ignored by the tax-payers
themselves after paying into the kitty], and those who want to make the
best use of the same through misleading and fooling people and through
purchasing their confidence in them by servicing them regularly with gifts
and praises much before they step out into the political bull-fighting
arena. Most often the former breed gets rejected because they are reluctant
to pamper the party/s to puchase the tickets from and also the people,
paving the way for the later to make their marks. There is a cardinal rule
which says: * 'THOSE WHO WANT TO DO GOOD AND ARE GENUINE, WILL NOT PAMPER
AND PAY TO BE ELECTED'. THEY WILL WANT TO BE PUSHED AHEAD BY THOSE WHO WANT
THEM TO SERVE THEM" * In Goa's case, this cardinal rule has been mostly
abused and therefore, we Goans have gotten rotten governments since 1963.

On the other side, take the case of political parties, how to
differentiate from genuine ones and the fake as far as their intentions are
concerned. Considering that before elections there are just two
PLATFORMS. [1] The People, and [2] The Party/s. The later woos, coaxes and
cajoles, gives all sorts of promises, even pays for votes to get elected.
The former, falling prey to the promises, and, most often the chanda
component, take the trouble to stand in long queues to vote. After the
counting of votes, a new and most powerful THIRD PLATFORM arises which is
the [3] The Government.

It is then the POLITRICS starts to play with the PLATFORM NO. 2
disappearing from sight and whose place is taken by PLATFORM NO.3. Those
who had given promises and assurances from PLATFORM NO. 2 are now in this
powerful PLATFORM NO.3, who now do not care for the promises and assurances
earlier given. Their original agenda/s take over. They come out with things
that were not in the list of promises, i.e. MOPA, ELECTRONIC CITY, GOLF
COURSES, MEGA RESIDENTIAL CONDOMINIUMS, THIRD AND UNNECESSARY
BRIDGES etc. When people demand for sanitation and garbage clearance,
markets, roads etc., they are told that there is no money. When asked for
jobs, they demand 15-20 lakhs, They take bribes from projects that are
funded by other countries on 1% interest on loan on humanitarian grounds
and even manage to stay out of jail when caught red-handed. When someone
dear to the heart and soul of the people is done unto death and when they
demand justice, they are rough shod, packed into police buses and sent to
jails, irrespective whether they are young, old, male, female or senior
citizens. Promises go through the window and arrogance creeps in. THIS IS
POWER in a DEMOCRACY which is nothing but DICTATORSHIP. Therefore to
surmise, we, the people vote for DEMOCRACY before elections and what we get
is DICTATORSHIP after elections.

At GOA SU-RAJ PARTY we have taken pains to change the above SYSTEM which
has been prevalent since 1963. In this SYSTEM, the PLATFORM NO.2 does not
disappear from sight along with the promises and assurances. In fact it
stands up much higher between the PLATFORM 1 and PLATFORM 3, shielding the
delicate and fragile PLATFORM NO 1 from the arrogance and high-handedness
of PLATFORM NO.3 so much so that PLATFORM NO1 does not at all need to talk
to PLATFORM NO3. It talks to PLATFORM NO2 as this was the PLATFORM that
gave all the promises and assurances in the first place before elections.
It is the duty of PLATFORM NO.2 to get work done by PLATFORM NO 3 and just
that, nothing more, nothing less. Therefore, the sorry tales that there is
no money, the creeping of items that were not in the manifesto etc are out
and the REAL EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE is in.

Coming 2016-17 Goa's general elections where GSRP intends giving the
PLATFORM NO1 more than 21 candidates to vote for, it is up to the this
PLATFORM NO 1 to decide if it desires to install a flawless, GOA'S OWN
HIGH COMMAND IN GOA for once, where it will not be necessary for some cook
or a butler sitting in New Delhi, Nagpur or Baramati, in Maharashtra, to
decide what Goans must have and what Goans must not have. All decisions
pertaining to Goa's affairs, viz. mining, Goa's police reforms, Goa's Law
and Order, Goa's infrastructural needs, whether to keep DABOLIM as its sole

HAS OSCAR MARTIMS AND CHRIS GOT SOMETHING WRONG ON THE FR.
BISMARQUE?

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. It is said that Oscar Martins and
Chris who immediately phone me after hearing news message from Prudent and
sent me the message on my mobile.

The message reads; Prudent: “Viscera report in Bismarch case received
All tests for all possible substances done and no suspicious material in
viscera detected: police sources” sent on 11.12.2015 at 11.39.19 hrs by
Oscar Martins one of this Mobiles No: 8805374700/8552846422 to my Mobile
9422443110

For me this message appears to be negative toxicology finding.

Dr. Joe D’Sousa my friend has always been telling me that Fr. Bismarque
viscera report would 100% be negative, because he said that Fr. Bismarque
was not killed by poisoning. In fact Dr. Joe told me that Chris and Oscar
Martins are going hammer and tongs accusing Fr. Bismarque of being drunk
and was taking sedatives for his alleged psychiatry problems as claims by
them. They were Tom Toming that Hema Sardessai too was with them in this
matter that Fr. Bismarque was taking drugs, so it proves own point of view
that Fr. Bismarque never ever taking alcohol, or drugs as suggested by
Oscar and Chris and that Fr. Bismarque was cleverly done away with without
injury and without drugs by sophisticated criminals methods of forcibly
drowning him. So, Oscar and Chris where is the alcohol and the drugs which
you’ll are claiming as a cause of Fr. Bismarque drowning? Sorry, sorry
viscera report of Fr. Bismarque showing it and Oscar & Chris and his
assertion that viscera report will never reveal the true cause of Fr.
Bismarque murder is proving him right. We expect a good report from crime
branch or CBI will clear all these doubts for the public if investigation
done in a scientific manner.

Only way to prove Fr. Bismarque murder is to do detective studies like
Sherlock Holmes on the site of crime gather evidences and nail the
criminals through circumstantial evidences and not by viscera report. In
fact viscera report will only prove us right that Fr. Bismarque was never
drunk and was not also on psychiatric medication.

Chris has asked me to post in the internet forum, about this recent viscera
evidence and that they are in right direction.

Please read Dr. Joe D’Sousa article which appeared in Gomantak Times
recently and stop Tom Toming and giving bad impression of Fr. Bismarque to
the world, as it appears that your brain is in your knees.

[Goanet] WILL RIBANDAR EVER GET A FOOTBALL GROUND

2015-12-11 Thread Aires Rodrigues
A football ground has been the very longstanding demand of the people of
Ribandar which to date remains unfulfilled.

On his visit to Ribandar in 1970 Goa’s first Chief Minister Dayanand
Bandodkar had assured Ribandarites that their demand for a football ground
would be met. Similarly every other subsequent Chief Minister has similarly
assured but the demand to date has remained a mere dream.

In 1980 we had an agitation demanding that Ribandar be given a football
ground but despite the assurance by then Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane
the football ground never materialized.

Over the years Ribandar has had many talented footballers but lack of a
football ground has been a hindrance in nurturing talent amongst potential
footballers.

Successive governments have paid lip service to this one longtime
aspiration of the residents of Ribandar, that it be bestowed with a
football ground that could be used by the residents of Ribandar and
possibly even the neighbouring village of Chimbel.

No Achhe din in sight for the football lovers and players of Ribandar.

actually testify, or Cardinal Santos Abril y Castello, the president of the
Commission of Cardinals of the Vatican bank, another possible witness.

The court's decision followed a request by defendant Francesca Chaouqui, a
public relations expert who along with a senior clergyman and his assistant are
accused of forming a criminal organisation and of stealing and leaking the
confidential documents.

The trio faces up to 10 years in jail if found guilty.

Also in the dock are two Italian journalists who used the documents in recently
published tell-all books detailing greed, corruption and poor management by
senior churchmen and resistance by the old guard to Pope's attempts to reform
the Vatican.

The reporters were accused of publishing news based on confidential Holy See
documents and of "soliciting and exercising pressure" to obtain the documents.
They face up to eight years in prison if convicted.

The Vatican was widely criticised for prosecuting the journalists, a move seen
as harming freedom of speech and information.

The court also agreed on Monday to admit more text messages and emails, as well
as letters and the results of a psychiatric exam of the monsignor on trial --
Lucio Vallejo Balda -- as evidence.

The trial resumed on Monday after being adjourned for a week at the request of
Chaouqui to allow more time to prepare her defence after she hired a new lawyer.

Since you welcome feed back, here is one of them:
I think we are busy setting up bonfires burning plastic etc. on roadsides
and burning leaves, coconut branches et al in our backyards (mostly during
evening hours)! However, this comes no way close to 'any one' of your (US)
'forest' fires!!
It seems the Paris Convention on Climate Change attendees generated about
575 million pounds of CO2 (Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colourless, odourless,
non-toxic gas that in its solid form is known as "dry ice") and
aircraft-airliners used 27 million gallons of jet fuel to fly in delegates
etc.
Alone, that looks like a really big number. Compared to the entire world,
which produces about 80 quadrillion pounds of CO2 each year, it’s not much.
In fact, all the travel for all the people to and from Paris equals about
22 seconds of global CO2 emissions. Add in two weeks of hotels, taxis,
espressos, pastries, and wine toasts, and you can probably tack on another
half second or so.

I am surprised that Goanet did not generate much discussion on what Goans
individually and as a community can do to help Goa,its farmers, and the
climate. To start the dialog, here is an article worth reading with some
useful? pointers.?
