[Goanet] Readers column outsiurced

2020-02-27 Thread Nelson Lopes

It is a thought provoking issues that also set me thinking. A number of Goan
English dailies seem to provide ample space and favour letter writers from
outside the state and far beyond. Extensive coverage and regular publicity
appears to enhance the popularity of local dailies , giving the impressions of
wider circulation. The truth is that such places do not have the outreach of
circulation of Goan dailies .The writers i believe scout the internet for
their published views and do not even subscribe to the dailies, wherein they
enjoy constant exposure The content is not the point of discussions, but the
moot question is whether the reserved space or columns go blank because of
lack of contributions from locals for whom the local dailies exists, There can
be some space devoted to international and national readers views sometimes
but frequently featuring their views deserves serious re considerations. I
believe that they hardly are patronised by papers in the place of their
habitat
It is not a parochial attitude but regular and frequent exposure , excluding
local contributors needs a rethink. Let better sense prevail and encourage
local and new writers to express It also appears that some writers are like
correspondents of dailies finding almost daily exposure which is undesirablein
public interests. No dailies around many countries decrease this precious
space, which is most popular with readers for any reasons nor press takes a
holiday on Sundays. It is the forum where public can air their grievances
common to others, who might not air them. I express these thoughts after much
hesitation and reluctance knowing well too that it will be fodder for waste
paper basket Fortunately the social media platform is providing an alternative
wherein the members are in thousands. There were times when letter writers were
provided a complimenatry copy of the daily featuring their views. A foreign
paper wrote back stating that the views are long but not to be discouraged and
continue to express Such courtesies are not part of our culture The reserved
space has to be filled and hence the paper is not doing any special is
favour to writers anyway Some writers undoubtedly enjoy readers appreciation
because of feed back they receive

*‘Ambeanni’ *

*Wendell Rodricks’ last Memoir in Fashion*

22nd February, 2020.

Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour (15th edition) in collaboration with the
Fashion Design Council of India.

Richardson & Cruddas, Byculla, Mumbai.

Bringing the universe of pride to life, the* Blenders Pride Fashion
Tour* celebrated
its milestone 15th edition by unveiling an exclusive collaboration
with the *Fashion
Design Council of India (FDCI)*. The tour celebrated the festival of
fashion and reflected the ethos of pride through three themes – *Craft,
Identity and Blend* – in the three city chapters of Kolkata (with its
extraordinary craft), Hyderabad (with its consummate synthesis of the
ancient and the modern) and Delhi (with its patent modernity),
respectively. The tour concluded in Mumbai on an extravagant note with an
artistic display in a museum-style exhibit of 45 of the country’s leading
designers clothes and ended with a spectacular fashion presentation,
featuring 15 design behemoths that showcased iconic ensembles truest to
their DNA. The hour-long event kick started with Bollywood actor and brand
ambassador for BPFT, Priyanka Chopra paying homage to the late Wendell
Rodricks. At a prior event in the day, a beautiful tribute video of the
Master Couturiere was aired that brought an endearing tear to many. The
Chairman of the FDCI, Mr. Sunil Sethi along with Schulen Fernandes
(Creative Head - Wendell Rodricks) announced that the legacy of the
eponymous label will continue to successfully operate in the future, just
as it has in the past. Thus, posthumously honoring the vision of the late
Designer when he set a new standard for the industry by handing over the
mantle to Ms.Fernandes in August 2016. She has been handling the business
ever since, while Wendell had moved on to his next and soon to be fulfilled
ambitious project, the Moda Goa Museum. The ‘Ambeanni’ collection is
Wendell’s last fashion work before his sudden demise two weeks ago and is a
fitting tribute to Colvale, his village of belonging and his home state of
Goa.

*The ‘Ambeanni’ Collection* / Wendell’s last memoir in fashion is an
extremely special collective of the late pioneering designer’s resort
style *minimalistic
design ideology*; crafted in the early 90’s for India and inspired by it’s
beach state of Goa. Staying true to the brand’s blue print, the collection
uses *natural fabrics like linen and silk* to create fluid effortless
fashion in Wendell’s favourite and what eventually came about to be
his *signature
colour, ‘White’*. The six ensembles celebrate the six ‘Ambeanni’ trees in
the label’s classic *design inventions like the backless crop top, sarong
style tie skirt, anti-form fitting gowns in dramatic proportions and a
beautiful knitted handcrafted detail *in subtle hints of gold*.* The
collection employs a very elaborate *three-dimensional* facet to every
ensemble in the form of *intricately knitted pieces* by the extremely
talented local artist, Reena Bino. The exquisite knitted details celebrate
the beauty of the mango trees that were so dear to Wendell in the form of
leaf, stem, veins and flowers. The featured knitted designs are in *styles
of ginormous layered circles, aero-dynamic breast plates, cape sleeves in
flair, over sized grand earrings and custom form fitted necklaces* that
highlight the *brand’s long standing statement* *centre-staging slow
fashion with an artisanal touch.* In true Wendell Rodricks iconic
style; *gravity
defying necklines, ‘Cutting on Square’ drapes, zero fastening silhouettes
and spartan sparkle embroidery *made a delectable appearance on the ramp.
Truly taking the legacy forward, Creative Head – Schulen Fernandes
presented Wendell’s last pieces of fashion art to an enraptured audience of
fashion enthusiasts and celebrities, taking a bow in honour of the legend
that is Wendell Rodricks.

[Goanet] DELHI RIOTS

2020-02-27 Thread John Eric Gomes

PM AND HM DUO MUST WALK THE TALK ON SUB KA VISHWAS !
After 38 deaths and hundreds hospitalized in 2 days Hindu Muslim riots which
bring to mind the 2002 Gujarat riots, the same communal violence seems to be
hapenning again with the same duo in complete charge of the nation. The PM
finally tweets appealing for calm after the NSA has taken charge of a
reportedly partisan police incompetence! There are enough weaponised para
military forces and yet there was torching of vehicles, stone pelting, looting
and burning of shops mostly muslim, reportedly attacks on Masjids and temples,
use of firearms and deadly beating/stone pelting, fear for lives and
uncertainty. Everyone queried in Delhi by reporters agrees it could have been
prevented with timely action! This leads to complete loss of trust in
government and the police.
The PM did not address the Press and left it to Trump to answer for him. Trump
did not want to reply regarding CAA but assured that the PM told him he is
serious about religious harmony in India! Neither is the Supreme Court bringing
a stay on CAA which legality it has to decide, despite some States passing
resolutions against it and resultant agitations all over India leading to
violence and divisions. Are we truly an enlightened democracy and will the PM
act as PM of India and speak up not appearing as a prejudiced PM of the BJP and
Sangh Parrivar?
Law and Order is a State subject, but Delhi is unique in that the police is
controlled by the LG and Home Minister leaving the CM helpless and nobody knows
where the buck stops. What is worse all over India the police is hamstrung by
political interference and that is very dangerous for justice, the people and
our democracy as seen in the recent communal violence. How many more deaths,
arson, looting, torching of vehicles, schools and shops and hooligans organized
with petrol bombs, deadly weapons and even guns, intimidating/attacking
journalists, causing mayhem freely with police watching/some complicit waiting
for orders! The High Court justice S Muralidhar reportedly woken up at midnight
held the emergency hearing at his residence and later passed a series of very
relevant orders with regard to the violence was transferred to the Punjab and
Haryana High court! The Supreme Court also rebuked the police for Delhi
violence and inaction against BJP leaders hate speeches. Modi refuses to speak
up to effectively end communal animosity and is a very polarizing personality.
A Supreme Court judge profusely praising him as a visionary genius and the
propriety hotly divided among the judicial community itself is telling. Unless
the police and judiciary are completely insulated from the politicians and free
to act professionally and impartially as required by the law, the atmosphere is
only going to get worse!
