[Goanet] When a toilet is off limits and open D works just fine.
I got a curious invitation from the nun at a convent school, over the phone, to inspect a toilet 'wall.' Turned out, she was too dainty to usethe word, but what she needed to excavate two squat toilets used by her wards because, as she put it, the mothers did not want theirlittle girls to use them after a year of squats by a crew of Shimoga labour. You can guess the social group of the families. The nun was honestand, more honestly, could I throw in a western commode for visiting guests ! Pawan the Coorgi and I spent a day locating a dealer of squat bowls. I wanted my name etched on them, but Pawan could not countenancethe thought. I found a plumber who also gave us the services of his best tile mason. In case you wondered, western toilets are not feasible becausethey need to be flushed clean and septic tanks cannot handle two hundred daily jobs. The native son who shepherds Swiss souls in Zurich sent along six million dollars for the new building. His name does not grace the edifice. I suggestSwiss German as an added language at Rachol.
[Goanet] STAGGERED LOCK DOWN COULD REIN IN CASES
STAGGERED LOCK DOWNCOULD REIN IN CASES Elvidio Miranda On 25th March, 2021 the number of new infected cases in India was reported as 59,118 in a very sharp upswing in the last two weeks. Coastal areas in India such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu could see very high degree of rise as also the polluted capital of India, Delhi. In another 20 days, the number of new infected cases could therefore double if stringent measures are not implemented in the worst affected areas. What could be done is that staggered lock down measures may be implemented to control the spread of the corona virus. Temperatures are pretty high and normally this should have brought down the number of cases, but the bad news is that especially in the coastal areas, the humidity percentages are above 80% which means that the spread of the corona virus will be higher, as the humidity in the atmosphere will lead to sustenance of the virus in the air. In the most affected areas so that the spread is controlled, all industrial workers should be issued passes for travelling in shifts for work, and the companies should monitor the workers very strictly. Where ever the virus is spreading, it would be prudent to rein in its spread by adopting strict SOPs. If the upswing in the graph can be curtailed, then in the run up to the monsoon, the spread of the virus can be brought down considerably. It is an irony that though vaccination drive is in full swing, still the number of cases are on the rise. Caution and an element of prudence would be the best way out.

[Goanet] ROHIT MONSERRATE AS MAYOR WOULD BE A DISGRACE FOR PANAJI
The very disturbing news today in a section of the media that Rohit Monserrate the very controversial son of Babush Monserrate is going to be the next Mayor of Panaji only exposes the political bankruptcy of those 24 other ruling Corporators. Panaji over the last two years has suffered immensely under a Mayor about whom less said the better. Rohit Monserrate as Mayor would be a further catastrophic disaster to an already distressed city. Babush Monserrate seems to be stage managing the show to somehow make his son the Mayor and this sheer sycophancy that is being displayed by the 24 ruling Corporators is very nauseating to say the least. Interesting story.the bungalow next to the one in question belongs to an acquaintance and will try and dig up on this. Apparently the Rock/lands end has many such stories including that of the cyclist etc. The place was always spooky. Tony's post was spot on. Right from the ground realities to the diaspora know-it-alls. The government has planned to bulldoze anyone and anything that impedes it's path of crony capitalism. Hats off to the few activists who still oppose these resources draining projects. Someone was talking of jobs. Just FYI in SesaVedanta the locals are given the fire furnace jobs, so SV can say we gave locals jobs. The plum n plush jobs are all to migrants. Does SV mean to say that locals are not fit for those jobs?

Re: [Goanet] A Tribute To All Goan Cooks
They really instilled a very important ingredient which is sadly missing in most of today’s cooking - that is pure love. No ingredient in the world can compensate for that. [Goanet] The humble bhajjia
I remember those days when as a young schoolgirl, mum would take me to Vagator beach. As we came down the slope and made our way to the rocky area leading to the beach, there used to be a small hut with a man selling delicious crisp bhajjias and hot fragrant chai. The clean smell of the sea and the fresh breeze accentuated the taste of the bhajjias. This simple fare costing a few annas, was a mind boggling experience which decades later is unforgettable. Recently I went looking out for bhajjias right from Vagator to Anjuna. They were nowhere to be found. They are replaced by the North Indian stuff. Very sadly, I retraced my way home. Why have we allowed our Goa to be taken over lock stock and barrel by people from other states. Is there an answer??? Bernice Pereira Sent from my iPhone
