[Goanet] COULD EXCESS OXYGEN HARM YOUR LUNGS?
COULD EXCESS OXYGENHARM YOUR LUNGS? Elvidio Miranda It is known that the air that we breathe contains 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. Even in areas where there are many trees, the content of oxygen may not be of very higher levels than the 21% that the air contains. This air does not have a detrimental effect on the lungs as is very plainly evident. Now in the cities and industrial areas, where coal fired power plants and high vehicular traffic is present, the percentage of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide affect your health considerably. Oxygen that we inhale gets incorporated in the lungs to form oxy-haemoglobin which is distributed to all the extremities of the body through the blood stream. So 21% oxygen in the air is beneficial to the lungs probably because it contains the right amount of oxygen as also the right percentage of nitrogen which is an inert gas in comparison. However, the medical oxygen that is administered to patients, even with Covid-19 contains 90% of oxygen, 5% of nitrogen and 5% of argon which is also even more inert than nitrogen. Though this composition of medical oxygen is thoroughly researched and used, is there a possibility that the high percentage of oxygen content in medical oxygen is harmful to the lungs and may be thus cause harm due to its much higher percentage. A study of the harmful effects of medical oxygen has to be conducted by the medical authorities and researchers to confirm that medical oxygen is not harmful to the lungs and absolutely safe.
Re: [Goanet] Pope launches global consultation forum
Hi Albert, Thanks for the news about the papal consultation. I don't think that the BBC is a reliable source for this sort of news item. It rarely gives up its imperial outlook. There was no mention, for example, of brown or black people. And perhaps the Pope didn't either. So I have made some changes in what you submitted. Pope Francis launches consultation on Church reform - perhaps the most ambitious attempt at reformation for 60 years. It is a two-year process that seeks to consult every Catholic parish around the world on the future direction of the Church. Controversial issues include women's ordination, married priests, child abuse by priests, Church exit by Catholics in the thousands. The consultation process will work in stages: In the "listening phase", people in parishes and dioceses will be able to discuss a wide range of issues. Pope Francis said it was important to hear from those who were often on the fringes of local Church life such as women; we must hear about racism & discrimination against brown and black people. Return of the land stolen by Euro migrants from Brown people in the Americas and Australia. Reparations for the vast resources grabbed from brown people from their own land. The "continental phase" will see bishops gather to discuss and formalise their findings. Pope Francis warned against the process becoming an intellectual exercise that fails to address the real-world issues faced by Catholics. Eddie https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58862935
[Goanet] POLITICAL GALVANIZING AT TAX PAYER'S EXPENSE
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Goa on 14th October. Though the official reason given is that he is coming to lay the foundation of a Forensic Science College Amit Shah will ostensibly be here for BJP related work in view of the Assembly elections due in a few months. Does it need the Union Home Minister to come all the way just to lay the foundation of a project, that too plans of which have not yet been finalized let alone approved? We still remember that on 1st July 2017 for the first time ever in the history of our country, within the high security precincts of an airport the BJP held a public meeting addressed by then party President Amit Shah at the Dabolim Airport. In total violation of law and contrary to Airport regulations, Amit Shah was allowed to address that meeting of party workers within the airport premises. I was constrained to take up the issue with the High Court and an undertaking was filed by the Director of Airport Authority that it will be ensured that no such occurrence ever repeats. The ruling party cannot be allowed to vitiate the sanctity of Institutions by acting in sheer and gross abuse of power. The only silver lining of this Amit Shah’s visit to Goa is that his route will see the roads quickly repaired and free from potholes. Adv.
