[Goanet] BJP PRESIDENT SADANAND TANAWADE SHOULD GET HIS FACTS RIGHT

2022-01-23 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Goa BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanawade should stop misleading the people
of Goa by pushing the onus of creating Babush Monserrate on Manohar
Parrikar who today is not around to defend himself.

When in 2002 Manohar Parrikar inducted Babush Monserrate into the cabinet
he was not charged for raping that minor girl whom he did in 2016. That
gruesome attack on the Panaji Police station which was a crime against the
State was also orchestrated by Babush Monserrate only in 2008. So Tanawade
needs to get his facts right and not defend the indefensible acts of Babush
Monserrate.

Infact the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar displayed that rare
courage in 2005 to strip Babush Monserrate of the Town and Country Planning
portfolio due to the gross corruption with regards to that Regional Plan
despite knowing that he could lose the Chief Minister’s Chair.

Does Sadanand Tanawade have to be reminded that his Chief Minister Pramod
Sawant had in May 2019 publicly and ever so loudly roared to us all that
people should not vote for a criminal like Babush Monserrate as he had
committed every possible offence under the sun, having been even booked for
raping a minor girl and that ladies and young girls would not be safe with
Babush Monserrate around.

The BJP President should candidly admit if Babush Monserrate has used his
money power to buy the party tickets.

[Goanet] MAY OUR VERY SOLEMN COMMITMENT BE TO GUARD OUR GOA FROM ANY FURTHER RUIN

2022-01-23 Thread Aires Rodrigues
On October 17th last year, as suggested and opined by my friends and well
wishers, I had agreed to contest these ensuing Assembly elections from
Panaji.

But later on carefully assessing the ground muddled situation for over a
month and with so many wanting to contest, on 27th November I took that
conscientious decision not to contest as I wouldn't want to carry the guilt
of the possibility of giving Babush Monserrate the benefit of any
fragmentation of votes. A remorse that I would have had to bear for the
rest of my life. Besides, having never joined any political party, I was
very averse to doing so now in the twilight of my life.

What I had sensed has come true now, as we all can see, from the unfolding
messy political scene in the State. So I had preferred to continue my
mission of serving the people humbly, respectfully, fearlessly and
dedicatedly as a common man.

It is no secret that the BJP is hoping to win by a split in votes and this
has to be thwarted by avoiding needless multi cornered fights.

Many have now been asking me whom they should vote for. My vote as usual
will be no secret. On 31st January once we know the final list of
candidates in the fray, I will share with you all where my vote will go
while also giving comprehensive reasons.

In those two weeks leading to the February 14th polls, I also plan
traveling across the State to meet up with my friends and well wishers to
share my humble views on what would well be our very last opportunity to
save what remains of our Goa.

2022-01-23 Thread Roland Francis
The fact is the Catholic Church is in cahoots with the big landlords and the
corporations that own commercial farms and exploit mineral resources at the
expense of poor landless farmers who live dirt poor lives.

If the Catholic Church which has tremendous influence in those mainly Catholic
countries truly practised social justice instead of just positing it as a
social construct, it would change the whole social and economic order of the
region rather than merely allowing a few brave priests who take their faith
seriously enough to die for it, give the Church’s fat cats the opportunity of
beatifying them.

[Goanet] We Need a Rutilio Grande Today

2022-01-23 Thread Pratapananda Naik, SJ
WE NEED A RUTILIO GRANDE TODAY!

By
Fr Cedric Prakash, SJ
22 January 2022

Jesuit Fr. Rutilio Grande and his two lay associates 72-year-old Manuel
Solorzano and 15-year-old Nelson Rutilio Lemus (and Italian Franciscan
missionary Fr Cosme Spessotto who was also martyred) will be beatified in
San Salvador.

For the people of El Salvador, 22 January 2022 will be more than just a
red-letter day. Three of their sons, Jesuit Fr. Rutilio Grande and his two
lay associates 72-year-old Manuel Solorzano and 15-year-old Nelson Rutilio
Lemus (and Italian Franciscan missionary Fr. Cosme Spessotto who was also
martyred) will be beatified in San Salvador. The first three were
assassinated by the death squads of Salvador’s then-ruling regime on 12
March 1977. On that fateful day, the three had been driving to the small
town of El Paisnal to celebrate the novena for the town’s patronal feast of
St. Joseph when they were gunned down. Their brutal murders brought
universal condemnation.
Among the first to openly condemn this heinous crime was Archbishop Oscar
Romero. He was appointed the Archbishop of San Salvador just three weeks
earlier. For years, Romero and Rutilio were good friends but poles apart in
their thinking, very particularly in their responses to the terrible
realities which gripped the poor Salvadoreans. As a young priest and later
as a Bishop, Romero was known for his conservative thinking. He never
wanted to rock the boat by disturbing the ‘status quo’. He was afraid to be
on the wrong side of the powerful and other vested interest groups of El
Salvador. In Spite of a long-standing friendship with Rutilio, he refused
to be drawn into the latter’s line of thinking.

Rutilio, on the other hand, was steeped in the faith-justice mandate of the
32nd General Congregation of the Society of Jesus and the vision of Vatican
II. The poor and exploited of the country were his major concern. Rutilio
wrote, preached and spoke with passion and clarity about the injustices
suffered by the rural population and he stood with them as they organised
to seek land reform and social development. He left no stone unturned to
highlight the sufferings of his people and to make their struggles his own.
Unlike Romero, Grande did not hesitate to take up cudgels against the
powerful. The landowners came to see Rutilio’s pastoral programmes as a
great threat to their interests. In doing so he made several enemies from
the most powerful of his country!
When he preached, Rutilio did not mince words. His most famous sermon was
the one he gave on 13 February 1977 at Apopa; many people consider that
sermon to have provoked his death.

In the sermon, Rutilio proclaims the equality of the children of God and
criticizes the Salvadoran government for deporting a priest, Mario Bernal.
Rutilio Grande uses the metaphor of the communal table to declare the love
of God’s kingdom and that God has created the material world for everyone
to share. In addition, he reminds us that the Gospel message of truth and
justice is often considered subversive, especially when surrounded by
unjust and oppressive social structures.

He said, “It is dangerous to be Christian in our midst! It is dangerous to
be truly Catholic! It is practically illegal to be an authentic Christian
here, in our country! Because out of necessity the world around us is
rooted in an established disorder, in front of which the mere proclamation
of the Gospel becomes subversive. That’s the way it must be, it cannot be
otherwise! We are chained by disorder, not order! What happens is that a
priest or a simple Christian who practices his faith according to the basic
and simple guidelines of Jesus’ message, must live faithfully between two
demanding pillars: the revealed Word of God and the People. The same
people, the great majority, the marginalized, the sick who cry out, those
who are enslaved, those on the margins of culture – 60 percent illiterate-
those who are alienated in a thousand ways, those who have been living in a
feudal system for centuries.” That sermon given more than forty years ago
is still very valid today.

In his powerful biography, ‘The Life, Passion and Death of Jesuit Rutilio
Grande’, Fr Rodolfo Cardenal SJ says that, “Rutilio Grande was arguably the
first Jesuit to be martyred after the Society of Jesus had proclaimed its
commitment to the service of faith and the promotion of justice as two
inseparable elements of the Jesuit mission. He preached and embraced the
struggle for faith and for justice not in an academic, theoretical context
but among and alongside the poor parishioners of Aguilares, with all the
difficult issues and contradictions that such a ministry involved.

Like Archbishop Oscar Romero (1917–1980), he did not quit; he accepted his
probable fate knowingly, even with fear and trepidation. His example
provides for Christians today an extraordinary model of a parish priest
who, without naivety and with Ignatian discernment, made an authentic
option for the

a much needed short in the arm.Churchill Bab entry also enforces the
strategy His ignorance about Benhamin peeved him as Neri stayed away
falling into a trap. The young, educated dynamic Adv. Clovis, aspiring
potential choice is given a cold shoulder
These examples are enough to unfold the intention of TMC and its designs to
spread its wings beyond its cacoon
TMC fighting trait is not the solution to either Goa or In dia On the
Cintrary AAM ADMI led by Kejriwal is better alternative in every respect
HE in Delhi for two terms has pulverized the might almighty and given
account of his progressive clean Govt.It certainly a model of Governance
for the people .Besides AAP has tested the waters of Goan politics without
success as a newcomer syndrome TMC is best second dictatorial model of
leadership where authority is concentrated on one person
Tyrant Mamta centric party will be like frogs in the pond.Disatisfied with
log as their king were granted a bird that wiped out their progeny TMC is
creating conflicts to flag off its presence Its changing of opening
account better wait and watch

[Goanet] Voters to resort to surgical strike

2022-01-23 Thread Nelson Lopes
Voters to resort to surgical strike
The politicians resigning from primary membership and the party is an
unprecedented model promoted by Goan politicians
IT is clear that there is no allegiance to ethics or to voters nor loyalty
to the party In by elections the defectors have received mandate to
continue and personal clout has been the factor and that has emboldened
the jumping chickens
The parties too welcome such defectors with avowed aim to stick to
power. The very same people will do a U turn soon.Their personal greed and
ambitions must flourish.Cast your vote wisely only means for themselves
and parties. If there is no suitable choice either abstain ,use NOTA, that
will not have effect
Parties do not consider track record or passion for social commitment or
their educationa,
experience or ability to discharge legislative duties. At every election
the thrust is same winability at all costs Hence so called suitable
candidates have no muscle and money power to take them on
The next best thing is to vote for newer faces, and ensure change of
candidates and parties. This alone drives fears down their spines. The
parties are to be blamed for these anomalies, as disprotionate
developmental budget, schemes are initiated in the constituencies of ruling
party.Hence the lure for power and the development mantra is cause of
defections, poaching , as it is crucial election propaganda vehicle.Just
see the flury of carpeting roads just prior to elections It is Hobson
choice for voters who are also confused with number of candidates and
parties
Vote for a change is the best alternative choice
