[Goanet] QUO-VADIS ELECTORAL POLITICS
Goa has voted to elect its 40 new MLAs. With 301 candidates in the fray the people have had an assortment of candidates to choose from. This time around there has been no straight fight in a single constituency but a multi cornered contest with five and more candidates in 38 constituencies while Siolim had the highest with 13 candidates followed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s Sanquelim with a dozen in the fray. We will now have to wait till March 10th for the counting of votes when 261 of the contesting candidates would lose this battle and have to try their luck in 2027. In the run up to these elections, over the last two months we have seen aspiring candidates changing parties as never witnessed before, thereby taking the political turf to a very new low. Politics was meant to be a mission but sadly it has ended up being now a business venture with crores needed to venture into an Assembly constituency. In the 60’s and till the early 70’s we had to coax and convince people to contest but now things have drastically changed with candidates having to be coerced and lured to withdraw. Electoral politics has taken a full circle unfortunately for the worse. A very sad state of affairs which can only get worse. Adv. [Goanet] A View From Afar
In their utter disgust with the misrule of the BJP in Goa, the people are frantically reaching out for (what they perceive as) a saviour government. Either there are no options or they are being fooled by the Congress party into believing all their problems will be over if Rahul Gandhi’s party takes over. Looking at their candidates and considering their thoroughly corrupt track record in the rest of India post independence and post their first generation leaders, there is nothing to indicate that the Congress will, if it wins power, treat the Goan population any better than the BJP did. Of course there will be an absence of stirring communal disharmony, but to be generally fair to the Goa BJP, they wisely kept off that minefield. So what has the Congress to offer? Simply put, nothing. Like a new broom they will for the first few months try to sweep clean the most obvious undesirable results of BJP rule, but after 6 months when they are well settled in, it will be back to the old corrupt ways. So what’s the option? Not much appears on the horizon really, St Francis Xavier’s special care for Goa notwithstanding. Roland. Toronto.
[Goanet] The King has landed
King has landed Rahul remarks have come true to its claims A private field was converted overnight into a helipad, carpeting it with tar roads and an asphalted helipad. The owner was not even given a customary notice. The landlady on a surprise visit was assured not to damage along with protective fence The fence was uprooted, two coconut trees cut,two sign boards destroyed and fence poles dismantled Has the Govt right to destroy environment for an overnight helipad for the PM and that too without notice to the owner and a solemn promise to return the site to its original status. It is high handedness that Govt agency seem to be empowered to act autocratically throwing all courtesies rights to the wind.Besides the. Collectors played football and deflected the issue on jurisdiction question. The press has ignored totally and only some channels are highlighting the grievances. Opposition parties even though busy with elections have not supported the landlady Govt has also not assured to restore and offer an apology for trespassing private property and destroy environment What security was involveled in landing and then transporting easily to the venue by road. [Goanet] It is all over now
It's over for now The hustle ,bustle , tension and anxieties are over. THE VOTERS are calm and at peace. The candidates are speculating and busy checking statistics. Their immediate concerns are safety of ballot boxes and sealingthe units. The media is busy collecting data to project .voting percentages and influence of female voters. They will focus on bogus voting and violence and complaints to EC if any .The media will breathe relief as high pitched election propaganda dead lines are put at rest. The pollsters frantically to feed the voters , candidates and parties needs will work overtime with their prognoses and diagnoses forecast and predictions. This is their best monent of glory. The electronic media will bask on the opportunity to compare and project trends. The candidates will spend sleepless nights concerned about safety of ballot boxes and deploy their own watch dogs round the clock. The apprehensions about electronic machines persists. The voters too do their own calculations about winning prospects of their favourite candidates ad with high hopes of their aspirations of personal favours. Let us wait and watch the surprises that may be in store. After all suspense too is most welcomed Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
