[Goanet] Risen christ

2022-04-14 Thread Nelson Lopes
Passion of Christ
Christ is a historical figure. The prophecies, birth, crucifixion
Resurrection are important narratives of his life. OVER 2000 years since
we still display graphic details of his sufferings. It is against the edict
of the Pope and virtually amounts to defiance
In Mangalore crucifixion has long been discontinued. In the west too the
custom tradition has long been abolished. Why in Goa then this tradition
with all its gory details still in vogue? Christ has triumphantly risen
from the grave burying therein passion sufferings humiliations forever
It is time to celebrate, rejoice with new hope that resurrection
assures. There is emphass on glorification of sufferings and Jesus on the
cross .We know must venerated the risen Lord, and put the ignomious past to
rest.No doubt the future lies in understanding of past with present
70 years ago my friend had the image of risen Lord at his home.It was a
difficult vision then to stomach differing with tradition and custom Many
modern churches sport risen Christ as the main image and it is indeed
right to change
The repeat of sufferings and graphic display appears to emotionally unite
and bind faithfully blindly. There is also hidden financial angle to this
simplistic ritual
The simple answer is why the Church does not obey the direction of the
universal Pope. Why rake up the sufferings and vivid memories to revive our
sagging faith and belief Is it Germany to strengthening of faith. The
reanaction is simply a display of gory past. Which Christ does not want
to reanact
Then again Pontius Pilate lives side by side by reviving his memory. He
condemned Jesus by washing his hands without any justification, when such a
sentence was reserved exclusively to serious crimes
There is no hint of what ever happened to Pilate or how he met his end.The
retribution would be just for his unforgiving act to modify the demanding
crowds and safe guard his position of power.
There is much to savour about risen Christ, his promise of assurance to one
hanged along with him and for the rest of humanity believing in his
heavenly paradise
The risen Christ must be a focus to celebrate and rejoice and his followers
must follow his directions of Pope to attain the goal and not be shocked
with brutality of his passion and crucifixion anymore

Hi Mel...Interesting and profound painting by a Hasidic Jew. Of a Jewish Man
who was considered as a rebel (but Who was Incarnate).
Many Catholics /Christians tend to forget that Christ was a Jew.
I have never heard of this work by Chagall.
1938---as per the link. Just before WW2! How could he possibly have known to
depict the horrors of what would happen.
The whole painting is so packed and alive with imagery
Hasidic Jews are deeply into the Torah; wonder what drew him to paint the
crucified Jesus?

Re: [Goanet] chagall white crucifixion at DuckDuckGo

2022-04-14 Thread Mel de Quadros
Anita:

Chagall lived in Byelorussia during the during the death throes of the
tyranny of the Tsars, and the birth of a new tyranny of Leninism. All
through this difficult period, every one attacked Jews violently and
destroyed their farms, homes and villages. Many were taped and killed.

Marc Chagall was showing the Suffering of Jesus, in the agony and death
Jesus is shown wearing a prayer cloth around his loins, instead of the
traditional loincloth. And surrounding Jesus, there are scenes of Jews
being persecuted, their farms destroyed and harm inflicted on them,
resulting in them fleeing to safer places.

It is a profound condemnation of the Christians who are using Jesus’ name
to destroy his people. And it is a plea for tolerance and peace.

We may find analogies to the persecution of Jews and their exile from their
homes now that we are remembering the 50th anniversary of the expulsion of
Indians from East Africa, culminating in the final ninety days for Ugandan
Indians to go into exile.

It is for this reason I posted it on the Goan sites.

Many far right Christians, and even many Catholics, object to this
painting, claiming it to be blasphemous. I find it a sad despairing and
probably true reflection of the human race.

Pope Francis , a
well-established ally and friend of the Jewish people, considers the
painting to be his favorite.

One should certainly look at it, study it and come to one’s own opinion.
The original is displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago. It is believed
the Pope plans to seeing it later this year on a visit to North America.

[Goanet] ZERO TOLERANCE TO CORRUPTION IS CRUCIAL FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

2022-04-14 Thread Aires Rodrigues
While we have been watching with anguish the poor quality of road works all
over, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has finally woken up to the reality and
ordered an enquiry into the PWD affairs. But what about all the very sloppy
works including the Atal Setu by Goa State Infrastructure Development
Corporation which executes construction works across the State to the tune
of hundreds of crores annually. Not surprisingly Chief Minister Pramod
Sawant has reappointed himself as Chairman of this plumb Corporation, a
post he has been occupying for long.

We cannot expect the Chief Minister to have the time to oversee the proper
functioning of this vital Corporation. It would be proper that a full time
Chairman, preferably a worthy senior retired Engineer is appointed to
ensure quality control in every work being carried out as shoddy
construction activity all over is there for us to see.

Taxpayer’s money has to be very judiciously spent on every project
with quality of the works never ever compromised. Every building
constructed, so too every road, has to be a very lasting one. A successful
project is the one which can achieve a balance between cost, time,
and quality. Citizens need to be also vigilant about public projects coming
up in their neighborhood as ensuring quality is everyone's responsibility.

"Free speech is when someone you don't like is allowed to say something you

Something I have always held as ideal to aspire to.

The fascist Left in the US is up in arms, terrified that Musk will set
Twitter free. Hilarious to see all the blue check frauds up in arms,
claiming free speech is a "threat to Democracy."

2022-04-14 Thread Adolfo Mascarenhas
Dear RajanL

I wish to thank you for the new Blog you so unobtrusively introduced It
comes at a right time

I did not know in which part of Goa the Cathedral was located it turns
out that it is on the opposite shore from Goa THat itself drove a very
strong message ...THe Apostle Thomas and his Companion all the way from
Palestine tnto Afghanistan down ino Pakistan walked towards Bombay and then
to Tamil Nadul where he was eventually speared to death.

There were Christians in India, about 1500 years before ST. Francis arrived
in Goa and almost two thousand years before any of the European Nations
were Europeans ...

Regarding your own Blog it is uniquely colourful, distinctly Indian
and evocatively Goan ...who knows, it could be the primitive ancestor of a
people calling themselves Megaglorians who fled from Goaland.

You state the priest, Father Johann, was kind and welcoming.I wish I could
take him to your home grounds...ICELAND ... he would have to wear something
colourful ...he would be too well camouflaged if he wore a snowhite
cassock

Thank you for sharing

[Goanet] REMEMBERING BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR

2022-04-14 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Let us not forget to pay homage today to our very adored Dr. Bhimrao Ramji
Ambedkar, the Father of our Indian Constitution on his birth Anniversary.
We need to be reminded that Dr Ambedkar who was a symbol of knowledge must
never have visualized that thick skinned persons with never ending greed
for Power and Wealth would ever be occupying very high Constitutional posts.

Seeing the sagging levels to which the political spectrum is stooping, we
can only remind those in Power of those words of Joel Osteen “You can live
your life angry, bitter, mad at somebody or even guilty, not letting go of
your own mistakes, but you won't receive the good things God has in store”.

And when will our Politicians be inspired by what the great American writer
Alfred Armand Montapert had to say “The main source of our wealth is
goodness. The affections and the generous qualities that God admires in a
world full of greed”.

The final thoughts of this anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar are best remembered
in his wise thoughts; ‘’If you ask me my ideal would be the society based
on liberty, equality and fraternity’’. ‘’One cannot have any respect or
regard for men who take the position of the reformer and then refuse to see
the logical consequences of that position, let alone following them out in
action’’.

[Goanet] Goan Saints and Nobel Prizes

Subject: [Goanet] Nobel Peace Prize Winners

I am referring to Message-ID: <
1617756171.581804.1649864348...@mail.yahoo.com> from George Pinro. An
earler message I posted bounced back ..The George Pinto address was not
found

 So here goes
I am very pleased that there is a Goan involved in his own word :

<<<

<<>>Wow
very strong words but you may be right ….BUT YOUR EXAMPLE OF ST JOSE VAZ
TELLS A VERY DIFFERENT STORY <

Frankly I had not heard of Sanit Jose Vaz until about 2009. I had heard
about SFX for the last 8 decades and even Padre Agnel. In 2009 I was at
Pillar and visited the Museum and fortunately met Fr. Cosma who gave me a
signed copy and I read it and purchased some more books and even visited
the parish where a church has been built …A couple even mistook me for a
priest and asked me for a blessing and a prayer because they wanted a
child ! What was remarkable was that ST Vaz himself decided that he did not
want to be part of the Foreign Order. What made mw even mre interested in
St. Vaz was that there was *DIVINE INTERVENTION*

*FIRST *. In Ceylon, the island was reeling from a prolonged drought
..the Buddhist King asks for a prayers ,,St Vaz tells the King that he will
only pray after the other including the Moslems prayed. Nothing
happened..then St Vaz prays and the skies opened and I believe that the
Kings son decided to be a priest

*Divine Intervention 2 *was when the they came to the flooded river with
waters flowing with a vengeance .the waters calm and the faithful Catholics
cross . St. Vaz turns round and the rivers races again ….the Dutch Lutherns
and the soldiers are swept away

Pinto you use pretty harsh words that Goans are pathetic, miserable
mindset, including running after foreign orders like the Jesuits,
Salesians, etc. while ignoring domestic, native orders. Yes *with all my
due respect to Filomena Giese's monumental 35-year struggle helped Goans
get their first saint, Saint Joseph Vaz.*

However,I have a different perspective. Some of the Popes and Bishops had a
different perspective and were greedy A few Popes had different
priorities which led to the Lutherns breaking away But then do not forget
it took centuries the Irish to have their Saints and even a longer time to
get a woman to be a saint *ST BRIGID *

*Out of the 1000 or so Goans …we have celebrated the feast of SFX for over
100 years in DSm and this is followed by celebrations in the DI ,,,the
Feast is celebrated by the tailors..discrimination …Yet I know only a
handful of Goans who have heard of St Vaz *

*Yes I share your concern that the senior Clergy from Old Goa to Quepem
are in a give away spree.. Like Christ when he saw the Forex Dealers..he
made a whip out of a cord and chased them away… *

*So as the Holy Week is upon Us PEACE AND GOOD WILL ..Lets Pray *

on the subject : [Goanet] Nobel Peace Prize Winners
Yous categorically state <<>>

So there is a Goan involved A belated Congratulation from a Goan in
distant Tanzania

I could not agree more with you that Goans themselves are partly. to
blame and perhaps there might even be racism involved. In my own case I
knew about SFX and Padre Agnel for nearly 80 years. I do not remember my
parents ever mentioning St Jose Vaz. It was only by chance, slightly over
a decade ago that I met Fr. Cosma in Pilar ..He gave me a signed copy of
his book ..I was impressed.how St Vaz turned down offers and
established his own orders and went to Ceylon right into the Lions and the
hatred of the Dutch Lutherans ..But lets face it there was *Divine
Intervention* everything from a heavy shower after a major drought ...the
Buddhist King was impressed...(did his son become a catholic ) to the
waters of the river rushing down after the faithful had crossed .

Still the Vatican took centuries before Vas was declared a Saint he was
..but many many Saints also suffered the same delays...whether they were
Europeans or Armenians

Is the process being hastened now I think so we must not forget th

at we did have corrupt Popes ...ask Luther !!!

Right here in Tanzania I doubt more than a handful of Goans out of nearly a
thousand have heard of St. Vaz . Greg Almeida and his family celebrate
his feast as did Rocky Fernandes and for over a Century the Goans in Dar es
Salaam celebrated the Feast of St Francis and even had a reception in the
Goan Club.

Is it an Ostrich with its head in the sand attitude it would be worth
finding out as for selling ...land do not forget the church leaders
themselves in Goa do so ..From Old Goa to Quepem are doing so with
Impunity. Christ in his time chased

those forex dealers from the Temple. ... Which of us want to take the
Whipping Task no Point in Just Weeping

[Goanet] Chinese trap

2022-04-14 Thread Nelson Lopes
Chinese trap.

The Chinese have a lot of spare financial resources to spare and entice
They therefore entice countries like Sri Lanka, Maidives Malaysia
Pakistan offering loans with interests THEY finance projects like
buildings, ports airports, roads bridges and other grandiose projects
that look very attractive
These projects seem indirectly to connect China thro these countries by
land ,water and air.and secretly favour expansionists plans without firing
a shot.
These projects have long gestation periods and countries in the short term
cannot pay the interest and hence they take possession of assets created
by them in return. Thus indirectly they own a part of the country. IT also
means employment for their vast army of skilled citizens, who have the
specific skills. It is akin to landlords extending loans and then taking
back in the form of bonded labour or confiscation of their properties on
default.
Sri Lanka at the moment is in serious economic crisis of unprecedented
nature
PAKISTAN may be the next in line
As it is said there is no free lunch or free ride.It comes always with a
hidden costs
Chinese are extended grip over countries without conquering or war or a
fight very sweetly thro loans the interest burden due is the well laid
out trap of subjugation
The productivity and revenue generation of the projects must be studied
and their gestation period
