[Goanet] Any takers ?? - Social networking sites are adversely affecting lives of people !!!
Goa's CM Digambar Kamat: “Social networking sites like Orkut, Facebook, Hi5 etc, are adversely affecting the lives of people with unscrupulous elements using them to post defamatory, vulgar and obscene material to blackmail, defame, cause mayhem among the people and destroy the social fabric of a peaceful society like Goa,” !!! - Any takers ???!!! [Goanet] Suggestion to check the stray dog situation in Goa !!!
Compulsory Licensing could check Goa's stray dog situation in Goa An compulsory annual dog license fee of as little as Rs.1000 per year could help reduce the number of strays and help tackle irresponsible dog breeding. Owners would face a cost of Rs.2.75 per day per dog – 25 paise more than the price of ‘Paav, Poi or Unde’ in order to provide huge improvements to dog welfare and dog control services. This licensing scheme could deliver resources to improve dog welfare as well. The government should establish a dog health and welfare strategy underpinned and funded by a special dog license scheme and a special budget outlay for the Animal Husbandry dept. This would fund resources to tackle the issues, such as strays, injuries caused by dog bites, and the prevention of disease. Senior citizens/pensioners should be charged half the licensing fee. Microchips should be provided by govt. to be used to identify the dogs, with details entered on a state database, improving dog ownership and reducing numbers of unwanted dogs. A one time cost for the same should be levied from the dog owners. The dog license scheme would achieve two important goals. It would: raise money for dog welfare, increase the numbers of responsible dog owners by getting people to think before they get a dog. ( There can be ignorance and thoughtlessness on my part, about the existing schemes of Govt. of Goa. People who own pets can put forth their elaborate suggestions as well so that a consensus can be reached to solve the stray dog menace in Goa. If all pet owners reach a consensus, the govt. can be persuaded to implement a permanent program.) --- Dr.Anjali Mohan Rao, Chairperson, Indology Goa GIRIVAR, Opp.Dhempe College, Miramar Beach, Post-Caranzalem, City-Panaji, Goa 403002 INDIA Phone/Fax: 0091-832-2462195 Cellphone: 0091-9765974786 website: http://www.indologygoa.in http://www.facebook.com/dr.anjali.m.rao "...the man who really counts in the world is the doer, not the mere critic, who actually does the work, even if roughly and imperfectly, not the man who only talks or writes about how it ought to be done..." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Now available in Toronto, a few copies of *Into The Diaspora Wilderness* by Selma Carvalho. I have two dogs adopted from the streets as puppies, both female, who to my wife and me are like our children, since our children are all married and on their own. We love our dogs and hate to part from them. When we are in the USA I call my house caretaker and ask to talk to my dogs, reassurin g them that I am coming back. We love our dogs so much. They are so intellingent though they cannot speak in our language. But if one watches and checks their actions, one can understand what they are communicating to us. Source: Polictical Risk Services) Though Ghana (pictured) may not have a stellar economy, its political environment is the best among low-income countries like India, In NEWSWEEK’s first-ever Best Countries special issue, they have claimed to set out to answer a question that is at once simple and incredibly complex—if you were born today, which country would provide you the very best opportunity to live a healthy, safe, reasonably prosperous, and upwardly mobile life? Many organizations measure various aspects of national competitiveness. But none attempt to put them all together. For this special survey, then, NEWSWEEK chose five categories of national well-being—education, health, quality of life, economic competitiveness, and political environment—and compiled metrics within these categories across 100 nations. A weighted formula yielded an overall list of the world’s top 100 countries. With bad ranking, India has a good ranking in Kite flying. Flying a kite from the roof is part of everyday life in India. But each year, on Jan. 14, an international kite festival, Makar Sankranti, draws more than 1 million enthusiasts from 36 countries. The effort took several months, during which Newsweek received copious aid from an advisory board that included Nobel laureate and Columbia University professor Joseph E. Stiglitz; McKinsey & Co. Social Sector Office director Byron Auguste; McKinsey Global Institute director James Manyika; Jody Heymann, the founding director of McGill University’s Institute for Health and Social Policy and a professor at the university; and Geng Xiao, director of Columbia's Global Center for East Asia. [Goanet] Online community Drive against errant autorickshaw and private bus operators in Goa on Goanet & facebook !!!
GOANS SHOULD FOLLOW " AM'BAD facebook PATTERN ", !!! CLICK THE PICS OF ERRANT PRIVATE BUS/AUTO NO. & DRIVERS & POST THEM ON -GOANET- & - facebook- If an auto-driver or private bus operator in Goa refuses to stop the bus or is demanding extra fare or is rude, there is no need to quietly go to the next one. Report about it on internet platform to shame them. Bangalore: If an auto-driver refuses a fare or is rude, there is no need to quietly go to the next one. A Bangalore-based youth suggests that you note the registration number of the errant auto-driver’s vehicle, click his photograph and later upload it on the Internet to shame him. Nikhil Narayanan has started an online community named ‘Rage against the Rickshaws’ as a platform for dissatisfied commuters. He used to commute daily by auto from his house to his office at Richmond Circle. Fed up of their errant behaviour, two years ago, he stopped commuting by autos. Though he no longer deals with auto-drivers on a daily basis, he has not forgotten his earlier ordeal and knows what others are undergoing. One month ago, he started the online community to vent his frustration and give others a platform to hit back at auto-drivers. It now has more than 220 members. They plan to collect registration numbers of errant auto-drivers and build a database. Nikhil writes, “I intend to list down registration numbers of all vehicles belonging to errant auto-drivers on this community. Please feel free to contribute through comments. I shall add them to the list. And, when we have a significant number, I shall personally ensure that this database reaches our respected commissioner of police. I expect full cooperation from everyone who faces this menace on a daily basis. Come and join the ‘Rage against the rickshaws’. Let’s teach these thugs a lesson.” When he got 150 registration numbers, he called Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Praveen Sood to hand over the list, but was directed to the RTO. “I approached the RTO, but was told they don’t have the necessary equipment to detect tampered fare meters,” Nikhil says. But, he is not willing to be bogged down by such stone-walling. He continues to collect numbers of errant auto-drivers. He is optimistic that there will be a day when the authorities concerned will no longer be able to ignore the numbers -- --- Dr.Anjali Mohan Rao, Chairperson, Indology Goa GIRIVAR, Opp.Dhempe College, Miramar Beach, Post-Caranzalem, City-Panaji, Goa 403002 INDIA Phone/Fax: 0091-832-2462195 Cellphone: 0091-9765974786 website: http://www.indologygoa.in http://www.facebook.com/dr.anjali.m.rao http://twitter.com/dranjalirao http://jmohanrao.blogspot.com/ "...the man who really counts in the world is the doer, not the mere critic, who actually does the work, even if roughly and imperfectly, not the man who only talks or writes about how it ought to be done..." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ISSUES BEING DEBATED: In East Africa, despite colonialism, the British afforded the Goan a sliver of a socio-political voice. -- Forwarded message -- From: Gina Fernandes Date: 22 August 2010 15:50 Subject: Re: Fw: Serial Killers of Dogs!!! To: INDOLOGY GOA Hi Anjali, I can appreciate your love for dogs, as I too experienced the same love from my strays who were being wretchedly tortured by the society members when they were just little puppies that too during the Monsoon where they used to take shelter in my building and I used to feed them, in the middle of the night I could hear their cry it was too disturbing, and so me and my husband kept them inside our one bedroom flat with their mother, you can imagine they were five of them and their mother, we took care of them until they grew big and had their own babies, We were so much touched by the love they bestowed on us, we could not go anywhere out coz they would start wailing. Today they are no longer with me and I do not own a pet since now I am in the Gulf, but I am still not able to forget those moments, which come haunting back to me whenever I see anyone torturing a stray, I have injected a lot of strays with the rabid injection, with the help of an NGO and some Animal Welfare Association, together we put an end to the violence of some Animal Haters. They have no value for other living creatures, coz they are living in a self centered world. I pity them and I do hope some day they realise their misdeeds and come down from their pedestal. Thanks for your mail and nice to know there's someone for the stray. I would appreciate indeed if you could send me the phone No: of Dr. Norma Alwares. Have a nice day. [Goanet] Humble request to Dog Haters !!!
Respected Goanet contributors, I was beaten very badly by Tina (a huge female alsatian, then she was a stray near our previous house in Porvorim). If goanet had image uploading platform, I would shown my stitches on right leg. I had 18 stitches. I was very furious and wanted all dogs to be shot dead. My father Mohan Rao explained to me that, you can't think of killing all the dogs because one particular dog has beaten you. Like all HUMAN BEINGS are not TERRORISTS A few days later, I saw Tina following me again, but not barking, waging her tail with a glowing eye. I realised I was wrong. I went near her, she recognised me by smell and licked my stitches and sat on her knees, as if she is sorry. I instantly brought her home. She left me at her age of 14 and I cried like a little baby. Her whole life Tina treated me like her own daughter. I realised that she may have beaten me to punish me for my past sins. She is still alive in my heart. I have nine female dogs leaving with me now, who originally belonged to Miramar beach. Now, whenever I visit Miramar beach or Inox Multiplex, the dogs there gets the smell of one of their own and plays with me. They donot search my wallet for a biscuit. There are a few students of mine .e.g. Ms.Siddhi Parker, ( a humble hearted explorer), who are also doing the same thing of adopting street dogs. On my part, whenever I see a dog who is in a bad shape, I call up PFA - 9326125922 or International Animal Rescue (IAF) -0832- 2268328/ 2268272 or Anjela Kazi or Padmashree Advocate Dr. Norma Alwares and request them to make arrangements to lift them and do the needful. I am doing whatever little to save other citizens of dogbites and -stray dog menace- ( I curse myself when I had to use these three words) and also to save dogs being -murdered-. I donot blame any authority as those who work there are also a part of our society and all of us folly. I believe, one need not necessarily be a devout Hindu, Muslim or Christain and also an expert in quoting Geeta, Kuran or the Bible to be a lover of all living beings created by mother nature. Their overall attitude will change towards these stray dogs. It hurts me a lot when I have to mention them "stray" as I feel I am the one responsible for their this plight. I have always get ride of any kind of depression and sadness, when I touch them. They can feel by a simple touch that we are happy or sad and they will tirelessly try to calm us of all our sorrows. [Goanet] Dogs- How cruel of human beings, who wants this god send angels dead !!??!!
Dear Bosco, Reading these messages and opinions by very respectable and elite members of our Goan community about " murdering dogs", is very shocking and makes me ashamed of me being a human being. But I pity on these merciless human beings and will pray that lord almighty give them peace of mind. Agression in one thoughts is also a type of violence and is a more lethal and dangerous than an actual violent act. Dog lover of no dog lover, it is unimaginable that educated people in our socity are always thinking of elimination rather than curing the problem. One day human beings will be seen as a menace and they may as well be eliminated- in a more humane manner by administering lethal injections. I humbly request to all the elders to refrain from the act of violence. Stray dogs permeate all nooks and crannies of Goa. The problem here is that a few animal lovers have moved the supreme court to ban the shooting of stray dogs. If Aires could spearhead a team of legal eagles to take up the matter with the honourable supreme court explaining that the culling of stray dogs is essential for the well being of the human beings, I am sure the court will permit the culling of these pariahs perhaps not by shooting but in a more humane manner say lethal injection or any such method to be determined by a team of veterinary experts. Since Aires has a reputation for fighting for just causes, I do hope that he will take this request seriously. Dear TONY This Idea of yours seconded ... SURE This is a menace beyond cure. and for the animal lovers, I suggest they give their address and take care of all of them and not come with rubbish like looking after them and bringing them back to their habitat etc. All those theories only end up in making us very vulnerable to rabies and all other problems.. Hope something comes up. Hope Aires really takes this up. My full support to him. JDGP

[Goanet] Workshop on Prevention of Swine Flu in Panaji, Goa !!
- Goanetter Francis Rodrigues (Vasco/Toronto) book launch in London, England @ the World Goa Day festivities on 15 Aug at 7pm Details http://www.konkanisongbook.com - Respected Sir, Greetings, Sir, I would like to humbly draw your attention towards the Global Natural Catastrophe, a deadly pandemic, which is heading towards our Goa- Swine Flu, and which ( when you receive this communication may have taken at least a few dozen human lives in India) has already started showing dangerous signs of spreading at an alarming pace. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Pune administration which is the epicenter of this deadly virus in India is seriously planning to virtually shutdown the city following the Mexican model resulting in an obvious shift of the epicenter to the State of Goa because of its vulnerability. The Mexican authorities, the origin point of the H1N1 virus, as you may be aware, practically locked down the whole city economy to the check the spread of the viral infection. Thinking that Goa is safe as well as a tourist destination (and with adjacent cities having shut their doors), it is quite likely that all unsuspecting virus-infected tourists from nearby states will gate-crash into Goa to find respite here. This will eventually pose a grave danger to the life and economy of this state, converting it ultimately into the second epicenter of the Swine- Flu Pandemic. Panaji, being the capital city of Goa (you can imagine) will naturally be the worst affected city by this phenomenon in India. National Institute of Virology (NIV) has now declared this virus as airborne!!! You may be aware that the World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that as time passes and considering the sanitation measures prevailing in Indian sub-continent, at least 33 % of Indian population will be affected with this deadly pandemic. To prevent the Swine Flu pandemic outbreak and to spread awareness about the virus and preventive measure to be taken in event of such an outbreak , Indology Goa in association with some governmental and non-governmental agencies is planning to organise a one day workshop in Panaji, Goa. In this workshop, medical experts from all the major hospitals in Goa as well as renowned medical practitioners from the field of Alophathe and Ayurveda will be invited to deliver their scholarly lecturers about the preventive measure to be taken in this regard. Representatives from all the walks of life in Goa including Hospitality and Tourism, major Industrial Houses, State governments official , academicians, small and medium scale industries, social and charitable organisations, workers union etc will be invited to participate in this workshop to clarifies their doubts about checking the outbreak of Swine Flu in their respective Sector. A free medical check- up camp ( alophathic and ayurvedic) will also be organised in this event. All the participants of this workshop will be given the three layer surgical mask during the proceedings and the expert panel will explain them about tackling the spread of this H1N1 virus along with live demonstration. Free saplings of the ayurvedic Gulvale and Tulsi plants will also be given to the participants along with other promotional literature such as Swine Flu remedial brochures, Vehicle stickers, T-shirts etc. We shall be keep you update about the program schedule of this workshop within a week's time. We also request you to depute maximum representative for this workshop to spread awareness among the masses about this deadly virus. We appeal you to associate with us for this event. We shall not require any monetary support for this event, but only your support in kind and good faith. If you are willing to participate in this event, kindly ask your office to send us an acceptance and confirmation in this regard. Anticipating your wholeheartedly co-operation, Warm regards, Anjali Mohan Rao. -- --- Dr.Anjali Mohan Rao, Chairperson Indology Goa GIRIVAR, Opp.Dhempe College, Miramar Beach, Post-Caranzalem, City-Panaji, Goa 403002 INDIA Phone: 0091-832-2462195 Cellphone: 0091-9422057786 website: http://www.indologygoa.in "All the phenomena of existence are one single thing in the ultimate dimension of the unborn."

Come, join us! Let all the kindred souls celebrate the righteousness! If you have not registered or made up your mind yet about attending the ICC, please register now or write Dr.Anjali Rao, Chairperson, Indology Goa on [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit the conference website www.indologygoa.in for online registration. Since this is the first ever International Cuisine Conference on Traditional Diet and Food Habits being organised in Goa, a special invitation registration fee of only Rs.900/- will be applicable to residents of Goa. The registration fee will include, Breakfast, Lunch, Conference Kit, Conference attendance certificate and all conference literature. Delegates may also present a paper on various aspects of Traditional Goan Cuisine and its relevance in modern lifestyle. Over the years, Goa has evolved from a very quiet little state with beautiful virgin beaches to a bustling tourist epicenter. This has enticed loads of business consisting primarily of restaurants, which started serving multi/fusion cuisines. Due to the lack of dedication and passion to maintain accuracy by such restaurants, Goan cuisine had started to lose its originality. With the influx of domestic and foreign tourists Goan Hoteliers initially started as multi-cuisine restaurants, but over the years they realized that the trend of 'Fusion Cuisine' had started infecting the Goan cuisine and that such a decline would be distressingly appalling, therefore they committed all their vigor in reviving Goa's splendid cuisine. To breathe life into the passion that was once in the Goan food Goan culinary experts will be presenting special lectures and demonstration on various challenging aspects pertaining to Goan cuisine and the revival of Goa's inestimable legacy at the International Cuisine conference to be organised from 2-5, September 2007 at Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji. seasoned with salt. 'Vindalho' is the modified Portuguese version 'Vinho de Alho' (a bundle of garlic) and 'Sorpotel' is the adaptation of 'Sarrabulho', and 'Cabidel' that of 'Cabidela'. The Goan sausage, 'Chourico' is the prototype of the Portuguese 'Chourico'. While the later is prepared with wine and a few spices, the local is prepared with vinegar and is well spiced. 'Bebinca', the queen of the Goan sweets, despite the fact that its origin is controversial, one would be more safe if one places it as a typical Goan category considering that its chief ingredient is coconut-milk and it is baked layer by layer with coconut husks. 'Apa de Camarao' (prawn pie) another home delicacy is made with local rice, coconut and 'Toddy' (semi-fermented coconut juice), stuffed with prawns in red masala (freshly grounded spices) and baked.
