GBA (Herald)*

March 24, 2014

TEAM HERALD

teamher...@herald-goa.com

PANJIM: The Goa Bachao Abhiyan had demanded the sacking of Chief Town
Planner S T Putturaju for colluding with the violators as seen from the
recent High Court judgement passed against the Aldeia de Goa project, even
to the extent of filing a false affidavit before the High Court.

The GBA quoting excepts from the order pointed out that the High Court has
clearly censured the Town and Country Planning department for choosing to
side with the violators, instead of standing on the side of truth, even as
it termed the part of the construction falling within 100 metres of the
High Tide Line as illegal.

The Chief Town Planner, S T Putturaju, who has been directly involved in
the illegality committed by Goan Real Estates Pvt. Ltd., by filing the
false and fraudulent affidavit in Court, thereby conniving... as rightly
pointed out in the order, be asked to step down immediately from the post
of Chief Town Planner which he has denigrated by his action, or he should
forthwith be 'sacked' by the Chief Minister who is also the Minister for
Town and Country Planning, the GBA demanded.

The court has already said that Like Goan Real Estates Pvt Ltd the other
authorities before the Court - the TP, the VP and the MEF - have all sung
the same song. It is only the petitioners who have alone steadfastly
opposed the wholly illegal construction of respondent No 6 in the NDZ of
the CRZ within the 100 m setback line. The petitioners have justifiably
contended that there is connivance between the government authorities and
Goan Real Estates Pvt Ltd.

We are shocked that the Chief Town Planner in his affidavit tried to
confirm the project as being approved as a hotel project in 1995 (plan 122)
and not a Residential Project (Plan 117) as it was then approved, the GBA
said.

It may be recalled that the Panjim Citizens Welfare Trust has been fighting
a seven year long battle in the High Court, against the Aldeia de Goa Hotel
against the authorities working across several governments both the
Congress and the BJP. None of the governments has been on the side of truth
and the petitioners have had to resort to the judicial system after
successive governments failed to uphold the law.

The second Judge, F M Reis, has agreed with the findings of Justice Dalvi,
that the plan at page 117 is the plan that was duly approved and not
122 that was illegal, Justice Reis has expressed his inability to agree
with the findings with regard to the demolition of the construction.
Justice Reis has found it appropriate to quash the NOCs as well as the
construction licences issued to the respondents, GBA said.

The GBA however is concerned that this will allow the present illegal
construction to go on. He has placed the ball in the Court of the same
Statutory Authorities (Town Country Planning, Village Panchayat, etc)
that have obviously connived and colluded to examine the
revision/re-validation of the plan afresh on the basis of the plan at page
117. This effectively allows for the respondents to finally get what they
wanted through the blatantly false affidavit of the Chief Town Planner of
Goa, the GBA said.

Punish lying, corrupt, town planner says angry GBA, now is the time for
change (Target Goa)

   20, Mar 2014

Goa Bachao Abhiyan held a meeting to deliberate on the issues that emerged
in the recent High Court judgement on Writ Petition 403 of 2007 in the
Aldeia de Goa (Hotel Grand Hyatt) matter. Two plans one legal and one
illegal bear the same date. The Chief Town Planner caught out on falsehoods.

The main issue that emerged was the conclusive evidence of collusion of
government officials with the builders to allow illegal constructions in No
Development Zones. The collusion is evident with vital files going missing,
false affidavits, despite complaints from the public, no action by TCP
officials and other government bodies. The complaints were regarding hill
cutting and eco zone violations.

The meeting resolved to highlight the blatant falsehoods in the affidavit
sworn in Court by Mr S.T.Puttaraju Chief Town Planner in November 2012.
Putturaju actually endorsed a fraudulent illegal plan as the legal plan.
The GBA demand stern action against Putturaju.

GBA is aghast at the deception of Mr Putturaju. On the one hand he kept
assuring GBA delegation that he is against illegal constructions in the
Aldeia case and then he brazenly colluded with the builders by making false
submissions in their favour in his affidavit sworn on oath.

The writ petition was filed by People's Movement for Civic Action and Goa
Foundation represented by Patricia Pinto (PMCA) and Claude Alvares(GF)
against Aldeia de Goa (Hotel Grand Hyatt0 and

[Goanet] ‘Amchi Bhumika Sompta’ - Tiatr review (different story, worth watching)

2009-12-06 Thread borg costa

The world is a stage and we are the
performers. Oldrin Sequeira, in his maiden presentation titled ‘Amchi
Bhumika Sompta’, presents the tale of a man who is a stickler for the
truth but ends up messing his life as well as that of his family.

Mr
Sapeco, a widower with two children, Kenneth and Lizzie, is a
businessman. Kenneth hates liars and is ready to cut off all relation
with anyone who tells lies. Mitsy, the only daughter of Sapeco’s
friend, marries Kenneth and the household is extremely happy. One day
Mitsy tells Kenneth that she wants to visit her father and instead goes
to see a friend due to some emergency. When this is revealed to Kenneth
he accuses Mitsy of lying without even asking for an explanation and
cuts of all relations with her. The father intervenes and using the
support of another lie tries to bring about a reunion between the
estranged couple.

The script has some good lines and the
presentation is quite sleek. In fact, Oldrin scores in the direction
extracting good performances from the entire cast. Tracy does a
wonderful act as Mitsy. Watch her emote, especially in those scenes
depicting pain and helplessness. Olga is Lizzie, also playing the
hearted sister well. Mini Mario is perfect as Sapeco and so is Anil
Pednekar in a subdued performance as Kenneth. Oldrin and Anthony de
Verna lend good support.

Jane, Marcos and Pedda provide the humour. The comedy plot is based on retired
Kuwaitkar who now runs a Bar in Goa. The
sequences of these three - Cyril Almeida and Marcus with Oldrin - are
extremely funny.

A D Diniz has given good music for the opening
song by Olga as well as other songs by Jane, Anil, Coney-M, Marcus,
Inas and Mini Mario. Solos by Oldrin and Cyril Almeida need mention.
The play has a different story and is definitely worth watching.

[Goanet] Dempo to play at Sharjah - AFC Champions League

2009-02-24 Thread borg costa
All the Goans in U.A.E please come in full force support Dempo Sports Club.

Defending I-League champions, Dempo Sports Club are confident of getting a
positive result from Wednesday?s AFC Champions League play-off match against Al
Sharjah club in the play-off match, which kicks off at 7 p.m. local time.

It will be a do or die battle for both teams, as the winners will qualify for
the group phase of the prestigious competition, which has been revamped by the
AFC this year. The vibrant Dempo SC had the first feel of the local conditions
on Monday evening as the entire team led by their dynamic coach Armando Colaco,
practiced at the Al Sharjah SC complex at a lush green playfield.

With the plush complex hosting the Sharjah club?s own floodlit stadium, the
Dempo team was more than satisfied with the day?s practice, although it was
light in nature. Keeping in mind that the team had to endure the travel hassles
and also overcome tiredness after playing their previous I-League match on
Friday against Air-India at the Cooperage, coach Armando Coalco said he opted
for a light practice just enough to keep the players warmed up for the day.

With the weather quite apt for the 4 p.m. training on Monday, the team is
looking forward to tomorrow?s 7 p.m. training at the main stadium, which should
give them the right kind of acclimatization needed for match day.

?The boys are doing fine and we are all prepared for the all-important clash on
Wednesday,? stated Armando Colaco after Monday?s training.

India?s most renowned club coach also added that playing in the AFC Champions
League competition was also a matter of great pride for Dempo club.

?Right now the entire focus is on winning the match against Al Sharjah and the
boys are trading their guns on that job,? a confident Armando said.

The team has also watched a CD of Al Sharjah?s recent match and going by that
Armando feels that Dempo have the credentials to beat them. ?It may be
advantage Sharjah as they are playing on home ground. But let me tell you it?s
all about creating chances and putting the ball into the rival net. That?s the
ultimate thing,? Armando asserted.

On Al Sharjah, Armando, said: ?They seem to be a good side. From the CD
evidence I feel they are content with crowding tactics and might opt for a
defensive plan. But we too have a definite plan to counter them.?

Team manager, Custodio Alemida added it is a matter of great pride for Dempo SC
to qualify for the AFC Champions League and having already made history last
year by making the semis grade of AFC Cup, the club could not have asked for
more exposure at this level. ?The AFC exposure over the last two seasons has
definitely made the team more mature and I am confident of a positive outcome
on Wednesday,? Almeida added.
Meanwhile, if the Dempo-Al Sharjah match ends in a draw in regulation time, the
result will be decided in extra-time and if the deadlock persists, tie-breaker
shall be employed as it is a play-off tie.

[Goanet] Women Want German girl to undergo test or Aires to apologise

2008-10-30 Thread borg costa
Want German girl to undergo test or Aires to apologise

Oheraldo.in - MARGAO, OCT 29
Women and youth on Wednesday expressed their solidarity with Warren Alemao and
charged social activist Aires Rodrigues for dragging the younger Alemao in a
rape case with the sole intention to target and malign the image of his uncle
and PWD Minister Churchill Alemao.
They demanded that either the minor German girl should undergo medical
examination to prove the charges of rape or her mother and Aires Rodrigues
should apologise for tarnishing the image of Warren by levelling baseless
charges of rape.
The women said Rodrigues has tried to malign the image and damage the
reputation of the parentless child, whose father was brutally murdered and
whose mother recently expired after prolonged illness.
An effigy of Aires Rodrigues was also burnt as a mark of protest for what they
called as false and defamatory allegations against Warren.
Most of the women and youth, who turned up for the press briefing hailed from
Alemao’s home village of Varca and Navelim constituency. Warren’s uncle Ciabro
was seen outside the city hotel where the press conference was held.
Addressing a press conference in the city here, the women maintained that they
have come together to tell everyone that Warren is totally innocent and
demanded to know why a budding youngster is being targeted in a bid to target
his politician uncle, Churchill Alemao. “In this hour of agony and sufferings
of this parentless child, we stand solidly behind this youth to enable him to
withstand the onslaught against him”, they said.
A minor girl from Navelim sought to know how the German girl can claim she is
raped when she has refused to go for medical examination.
Celina Goes wondered what would be the future of Goan youth when youngsters
like Warren are being targeted without any evidence, while Damiana Pereira
expressed shock that Warren has been accused of rape. Demanding to know why
Aires Rodrigues is supporting the German mother, She suspected a political
conspiracy to target the Alemaos.
The women also questioned the German mother for letting her daughter go for
discos and night parties, saying “as concerned mothers, we will not let our
daughters just go out for discos and parties”.
Nicole Coutinho said no mother would have remained quiet for 15-20 days if her
daughter was raped and demanded to know how Warren could be blamed for rape
when the girl is not ready for medical examination. Similar sentiments were
echoed by Matilda D’Silva and Francisca Fernandes. Francisca said the people of
Goa would not keep quite if the mother of the German girl and Aires fails to
apologise.
Nelly Rodrigues said the girl’s mother should apologise for making the baseless
allegation against Warren, saying the youngster has been unnecessarily dragged
and implicated in the case. Farrel Furtado, Maria Rebello, Mumtaz Turki and
others also spoke.
Youth leader from Varca Alario Fernandes and others demanded the arrest of
Aires Rodrigues for defaming Warren with rape charges. He and others questioned
why Aires is not taking up issues affecting local youth abroad and in Goa.
Giving a clean chit to Warren, Solomon D’Souza sought to know from Aires what
would be the future of Goan youth if such baseless charges are made against
them. Walter Pereira, Shanil D’Costa, Menino Caido, Joseph Rodrigues and
Borges Rebello also spoke and came down heavily on Aires Rodrigues.

[Goanet] Churchill Alemao's nephew sexually abused the German Girl?

2008-10-23 Thread borg costa

German girl's mum accuses another Goa minister’s kin of rape
23 Oct 2008, 1419 hrs IST, PTI

PANAJI: In another twist to the rape case of a German, the girl's mother on
Thursday told police that State Public Works Department minister Churchill
Alemao's nephew, Warren Alemao, had also sexually abused her 14-year-old girl
along with education minister Atanasio Monserratte's son Rohit.

We have submitted to the photograph of Warren in compromising position with
the girl traced on the net, Aires Rodrigues, counsel for the mother, told a
press conference here where the German woman was also present.

We have passed on the entire information to the police who are investigating
the charges against Rohit. If police demands, we will give a formal complaint.
But I don't think the complaint is required as the investigating agency is
probing the matter from all the angles, Rodrigues said.

The German mother on October 2 had accused education minister Atanasio
Monserratte's son Rohit of raping her daughter. The Police, after initial
delay, had booked Rohit on October 14.

She said that she came to know recently about Warren's involvement in the case
and promptly passed on the information to the police.

The mother said that she had heard about Warren being her daughter's friend but
never met him. She has a big friends circle and its intermingling. I had heard
these names (Rohit and Warren) but never met them, the German woman, who is in
Goa for a research project, said.

Rodrigues stated that during one of the telephonic conversations, Alemao had
conceded involvement of his nephew in this case. He had named Warren's elder
brother. But in the photograph we have found his younger brother, the legal
counsel told reporters.

He said that the police have taken all the email addresses of the victim girl
and they are checking the details.

September 7th to resign as Goa's Education Minister for having falsely
filed
an affidavit that he had passed his S.S.C knowing well that he had not even
completed the 8th standard.

If Mr. Monserartte does not resign or Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat does
not sack him, Utt Goenkara would take all steps possible to ensure that
action is taken against Mr. Monseratte.

Mr. Monseratte would solely be responsible for all the consequences.
By filing a false affidavit on his own educational qualifications, Mr.
Monseratte had lost all moral authority to continue as a Minister, more so
as the Education Minister of Goa.

With reference to Mr. Monserarte's statement that he would prove his
educational qualifications at the appropriate time, the appropriate time is
now and it would end on September 7th.

Utt Goenkara has challenged the Education Minister to prove that he had
passed S.S.C from St Theresa's High School, Bandra as claimed by him in his
sworn affidavit on 12th May 2007.

While Utt Goenkara has nothing personal against Mr. Monseratte, it is time
to start the cleansing of the degenerated and rotting public life.

We agree with Mr. Monseratte that you need no educational qualifications to
be a Minister, but the issue is that Mr. Monseratte had lied on Affidavit
that he was S.S C when he knew very well that he had not passed the 8th std.

It is unacceptable to have a person who has fudged his own educational
qualifications to be entrusted with the task of formulating and shaping
Goa's educational policy at the risk of jeopardizing the future of
thousands
of students and hundreds of educationists.

[Goanet] Snake on an Air India Plane

2008-09-04 Thread borg costa
Times of India

NEW DELHI : Crew on an Air India passenger jet discovered a snake coiled up
under a seat and were unable to catch it as it slithered around the plane, the
airline said on Thursday.

The snake was disturbed during a routine check on the Air India A319 aircraft,
which had landed at Delhi airport after a domestic flight from Srinagar.

It evaded capture by slipping into an air vent and could not be found even when
staff unscrewed panels inside the fuselage, opened all the doors and fumigated
the plane.

There was commotion which scared the snake and it went further inside, an
airport official quoted.

Reports that the snake was a venomous cobra were denied by an Air India
spokesman.

The aircraft was parked at Delhi airport for maintenance purposes. There was a
snake but not a cobra, he told.

We have no details of what kind of a snake it was, or where it is now. We have
taken up this matter with Delhi airport authorities.

He denied reports that the snake had caused the plane to be grounded or that
its next flight, to Mumbai, had been delayed.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, echoed the plot of 2006 hit film
Snakes on a Plane starring Samuel L Jackson and Julianna Margulies

[Goanet] Life is a misery for “Married Bachelor s” in UAE

2008-08-16 Thread borg costa
Life is a misery for “Married Bachelors” in UAE

Leaving their families and children in their home countries, a large number of
expatriates are forced to live a bachelor’s life in the UAE. They are unable to
bring their families here because of high rents and the spiralling cost of
living. They miss their children as much as their children miss them back home.
The suffering is part of their deal for a better future as they try their best
to cope with the situation, which is not always possible. T Ramavarman speaks
to a number of expatriates to know their views.

When 33-year-old Jose Landicho, who works as a surveyor in a private firm in
Dubai, receives a call from his two-year-old son back home in Manila, the
Philippines, his heart aches.

However, he quickly recovers and consoles his son with the usual ploy, 'I will
come home tonight, and bring a gift for you.'
Discreetly he tells his wife over the phone to buy a gift and give it to the
son the next morning.

The following day, he makes the child believe that he had come home late at
night and had left a couple of hours later.

The case of 40-year-old Hussein, a store-keeper-cum-accountant in a foodstuff
firm in Abu Dhabi, is no different. His six-year-old daughter yells over the
phone from his home in Goa, India: 'Papa, be with us. All my classmates are
accompanied by their dads when they come to school. Why are you not here to
drop us at school?'

'There is no life when the family is not with you. I can't bear this any
longer. I'm planning to go back for good when my current contract comes to end
by November,' says an exasperated Hussein.

Helmi Mohammed Saleh, 32, who hails from Yemen, leaves his family at Ajman to
work in the Human Resources Division of the Gulf Contracting Company in Abu
Dhabi.

'I'm very upset over being away from my family. But it is very expensive to get
a flat in Abu Dhabi. So I stay here as a single and go to Ajman over the
weekends to join my family. My mother is there with my wife and three
children,' he says.

'I feel sad as well as happy to be staying here alone,' says Saud Afroze Khan,
who works as an accountant with the firm, Olenter, in Dubai.
Saud left his wife in Karachi, Pakistan, soon after his marriage. 'Happy
because I can lead a casual life without much personal responsibilities. I can
devote more time to work and entertainment. But I feel sad because I miss a
partner in life, especially on holidays,' he says.

Mohammed Baroodi, who hails from Hartoon in Sudan, says he has been here for
the last 21 years working in the purchase section of a private firm.
'I had to send my wife and three children back about seven years ago because of
the rising costs here. I miss my family. Initially it was extremely difficult,
but now I've learnt to adjust with the predicament,' he adds.

These are only miniscule representation of the plight of the phenomenally
rising population of 'married bachelors' working in UAE.

With the sky-rocketing rents and cost of living they cannot afford to bring
their families here. Unfortunately, the rising cost of living has not yet
reflected in the wage levels of the expatriates in the region. And with the
growing travel expenditure, frequent travels to home have been curtailed.

According to recent reports, a survey by Arabian Business indicated that nearly
60 per cent of the expatriate population in the Gulf region are contemplating
moving away from the region in the wake of the rising cost of living here.

The worst hit are those in the lower-middle class. For the low-income workers,
labour camp accommodation and minimum level of food provide some solace. But
those who earn between Dh2,000 and Dh7,000 struggle to find accommodation and
lead a decent life.

'Until two or three years ago, it was possible to lead a comfortable life and
make some saving, even in a salary of Dh2,000 a month. But now you can't get a
single room accommodation in less than Dh3,500. In areas like Abu Dhabi there
is also an acute shortage of rooms,' says Muralidharan from Kerala, India.

Muralidharan, who works as a designer with Emirates Steel Wool in Abu Dhabi,
said he was now sharing a room with four 'married bachelors' at Electra.

'If the landlord asks me to vacate, I will have no option but to go back home.
At the new rental levels I will not be able to take up a fresh place, unless my
salary is doubled,' he said.

Some of the expatriates complain that the rent hikes are arbitrarily imposed on
them by the landlords. 'Take it or leave it' is often their attitude.

'My landlord almost doubled the rent three years ago from Dh26,000 to Dh48,000.
I was compelled to pay that rent. I could not have relocated to a new place
with my family,' says Piroz Khan from Kerala, who works as accountant with a
private firm in Abu Dhabi.

Piroz says he has now sent his family back to Kerala as his son wanted to study
there, after completing the higher secondary

Astoria, The hotel
There are places of worship that become museums, landmarks that become a
visible chronicles of history, monuments that come under the protection of
UNESCO’s World Heritage Center, and then there is the Astoria. A three-star
hotel in Bur Dubai, known to every Goan within a 500 mile radius. For the
Astoria is the chosen venue for almost every Goan function.

When I turned thirteen, my parents decided I should be initiated into that
all-important Goan rite of passage, The Goan Dance. There in the darkened
ballroom of the Astoria hotel, in my white dress with polka dots and butterfly
sleeves, I had my first glimpse of this ritualistic ceremony of excessive
drinking and frenzied dancing. Unfortunately for me, my under-aged Goan
consciousness was permanently marred by an over-zealous and heavily drunk Goan
uncle who insisted on dancing half the night with me, and punctuating his jokes
with a wink which I mistook for a congenital twitch.

Over the course of the years, the Astoria would become the venue for many rites
of passage, such as learning the Birdie dance, ignoring the buttery bad breath
on my partner, falling in love, breaking-up and finally having my best-friend
get married and abandon me. Through it all, we danced, sang mandos, hollered
out the first two lines of Auld Lange Syne, ate sorpatel, Russian salade with
may’naise and Bebinca sometimes brought it all the way from Goa. Here a
special mention must be made of the Goan Cultural Society and Goan Sports Club,
who worked tirelessly by arranging cultural events, New Year’s Eve dances and
the more renowned Goan football tournament held during Ramadan, to keep the
Goan cultural spirit alive in the Gulf diaspora.

Some years later when my parents in their omniscient wisdom decided that my
brother would finish his education in the US and I in Goa, I didn’t sulk. I
was elated. I was going back to the mother-lode of kurruddin, jive,
heart-breaking renditions of Sting’s Roxanne and every diaspora mother’s
dream, a gene pool of good Goan boys. This time hopefully without the
congenital twitch.

Info on the current status of the Goan Cultural Society and Goan Sports Club
would be appreciated.

[Goanet] NRI groom? Rejected!

2008-06-02 Thread borg costa

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/3088517.cms

NRI groom? Rejected!

Hot careers, independence, wanting to be there for
their families. Just some of the reasons eligible
Indian women won’t up and move abroad after marriage.
Which explains the decline in the demand for NRI
grooms, once considered most-desired prospects on the
marriage market.

Make-up and hair expert Swati Gupta says there’s no
way she’s moving out of Bangalore, leave alone India.
“Doing anything outside Bangalore is out of the
question for me. I’m professionally established here.
I don’t want to throw all this away for an NRI
husband,” she says. Career apart, Swati is keen on
being there for her parents. “After a few years, I
want my parents to travel while I keep things going
here. So it’s definitely a Bangalore groom for me,”
she says.

Senior sales executive in a media services company,
Sonia B, also says commitment to family is one of the
reasons she won’t consider an NRI groom. “Besides,
with someone who lives so far away, the picture is
always hazy. It’s too risky to marry someone nobody
knows anything about,” she says.

Haribabu Injam, who runs a matrimonial services
company, concedes that increasingly, career women are
not interested in NRI grooms. “Girls here have good
jobs in MNCs and earn fat salaries. They don’t want to
give that up and settle for an NRI groom, who more
often than not —having lived in an alien culture — is
shy, introverted and unable to adapt to the girl, her
friends and family here,” he explains.

Usha, learning professional in an IT company, refuses
to accept the sense of displacement that comes with
marrying an NRI. “I wouldn’t have the courage to give
up my job, get married to a person living abroad and
do nothing there. I may be open to doing the same here
because it’s familiar territory and easy to get back
to where I was if I wanted to,” she says.

Despite such clarity among women, Velayudhan AP, who
runs a matrimonial services and astrological research
company, says women looking for spouses online tend to
tie the knot with NRI grooms. “It’s dangerous because
after 2-3 months, these women realise that the men are
not suitable and file for divorce. NRI grooms have
usually had pre-marital relationships that haven’t
worked out and finally concede to marrying a girl from
here. Also, they don’t always tell the truth about
their jobs and salaries. Some are in deep debt and
demand dowry. No smart Indian woman will put up with
such duplicity,” he says.

[Goanet] AI to resume Goa-Dubai service to be resumed in the next 10 days

2008-05-07 Thread borg costa
AI to resume Goa-Dubai service soon

NAVHINDTIMES.COM

The air services from Goa to Dubai that were
discontinued abruptly in the recent past are expected
to be resumed in the next 10 days, with the Air India
authorities working out their schedule.

The station manager of National Aviation Company of
India Ltd, which now operates under the brand name of
Air India following the amalgamation of Air India and
Indian Airlines, Mr Anil Kaul said that the flight
would be operated twice a week.

He said that besides working out the schedule, the
authorities have to complete some other formalities
such as landing permission, etc. He also said the Air
India would operate an Airbus 320 service on the
sector, adding that once the formalities were
completed the services would resume.

The national career was operating three services to
the Gulf region including Sharjah, Dubai and Kuwait,
which has sizable number of Goans in the region and
who preferred to take direct flight to and from their
homeland from the places where they work. While
services to Dubai and Sharjah were discontinued, but
to Kuwait is still operational.

The service to Sharjah was unlikely to be resumed as
it was just half an hour’s drive from Dubai, but
there was possibility of increasing the frequency of
flights to Dubai.

With the state government making all out efforts to
promote Goa as a tourists destination to people in
Arabian Gulf, resumptions of flights to Dubai and
starting of flights to other destinations would help
the state in its endeavour as people would be able to
avail direct flights to enter and exit Goa.

[Goanet] Now, an Internet 10,000 times faster than broadband

2008-04-08 Thread borg costa
Now, an Internet 10,000 times faster than broadband
- OHERALDO

LONDON, APRIL 7 (Agencies) — The scientists who
invented the Internet have now built a lightning-fast
successor that can download a full-length feature film
in five seconds, with a speed around 10,000 times
faster than a normal broadband connection.
Cern, the particle physics centre that created the
World Wide Web, says what they have named ‘The Grid’
would have the power needed to transmit 3D holographic
images; allow simultaneous online gaming with lakhs of
players; and offer high-definition video telephony for
the price of a local call.

Professor of physics at Glasgow University David
Britton, who is a leading figure in the Grid project,
says: “With this kind of computing power, future
generations will have the ability to collaborate and
communicate in ways older people like me cannot even
imagine.”

It is to become operational this summer, when Cern
scientists switch on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC),
a new particle accelerator they have built to probe
the origin of the universe. The Grid has been
designed to capture the gargantuan amounts of data it
generates.

Cern, which is based near Geneva, in Switzerland
started working on the Grid seven years ago, when
researchers realised the LHC would generate data
equivalent to 56 million CDs each year – if they were
stacked one on top of another, the pile would be 40
miles high.

Cern was where Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the Web in
1989. But it is not powerful enough to handle this
much data – if it was used, the entire Internet could
crash worldwide. That’s because the Internet is linked
by cables and routing equipment that was originally
designed for telephone calls. It lacks the capacity
for massive high-speed data transmission.

But the Grid has been built with dedicated fibre optic
cables and modern routing centres. There are no
outdated components to slow the data. Over 55,000
servers have already been installed to store the data,
and this network will expand to 200,000 within two
years.
Technical Director of the Grid project Prof Tony Doyle
says: “We need so much processing power, there
wouldn’t be enough electricity to run the computers if
they were all at Cern.” So the new network has to be
powerful enough to send the data instantly to research
centres in other countries.

This parallel Internet is now built, using fibre optic
cables that run from Cern to 11 centres in the United
States, Canada, the Far East, Europe and around the
world. From each centre, further connections radiate
out to research institutions, using existing
high-speed academic networks. Britain alone has 8,000
servers on the Grid system – in theory, any student in
these chosen institutions should be able to hook up to
the Grid rather than the Internet by the end of this
year.

Grid project leader Ian Bird says grid technology
could make the Internet so fast that people could stop
using desktop computers to store information and keep
it all on the Grid. “It will lead to what’s known as
cloud computing, where people keep all their
information online and access it from anywhere,” he
said.

But the real goal of the Grid is to work with the LHC
in tracking down nature’s most elusive particle, the
Higgs boson. Predicted in theory but never yet found,
it is supposed to be what gives matter mass. But even
at optimum performance, The LHC will generate only a
few thousand of the particles a year. Analysing the
mountain of data is such a huge task that it will keep
the Grid’s gargantuan capacity busy for years to come.

The bad news is that the Grid itself is unlikely to be
available to domestic Internet users, but the good
news is that many telecoms providers and businesses
are already introducing its pioneering technologies.
One of them, dynamic switching, creates a dedicated
channel for Internet users trying to download large
volumes of data such as films. In theory, a standard
desktop computer could download a movie in five
seconds using this technology, rather than the three
hours or so it takes today.

But the Grid will be made available to academic
researchers, including astronomers and molecular
biologists. Cern scientists claim it has already been
used to help design new drugs against malaria.
Researchers used the Grid to analyse 140 million
compounds, a task that would have taken a standard
Internet-linked computer 420 years. Projects like the
Grid will bring huge changes in business and society
as well as science, experts say. The history of the
Internet shows one cannot predict its real impacts,
but they are bound to be huge.

After spending months planning our holiday to Goa, one
that we had been dreaming about for ages, the time had
finally come when we were all ready to discover a new
world.

Only a speck on the world map and situated on
India’s western coast, Goa is popular as a major
tourist destination.

Just last year, my parents, cousin and I visited this
magnificent paradise, which filled our hearts with
ecstasy even before we set foot there.

We travelled business class on Emirates — a truly
luxurious experience. The seats transformed into full
beds with footrests.

In-built massage options were just a click of a few
buttons away.

In nature’s lap

From the airport, we were chauffeur-driven in a black
limousine to The Leela Palace Hotel, one of the most
awe-inspiring and opulent hotels in town.

Perched on a rock face, the hotel was cradled by two
strikingly majestic and unspoilt beaches on which we
spent most of our holiday sunbathing and sun-basking,
gazing at the panoramic views around us.

It was an overwhelming experience — waves crashed on
rocks while the sunlight glinted on the rough surface
of the ocean and melted into occasional shades of
lemon yellow and reddish-orange.

Elegant swans circled the shore while the wind
whistled through the coconut groves.

The blue sea stretched to the horizon and as I dug my
feet into the soft white sand, the salty air stinging
my face, ruffling my hair and the swirling waves
tickling my toes, I could not imagine a better place
for a honeymoon or a holiday.

Romantic cruise

Apart from the beaches, the lovely, romantic dinner
cruise on the river Mandovi, with an appetising and
authentic Goan cuisine, fantastic ambience and live
disco karaoke, was a special treat for everyone.

I loved every moment of the holiday and now that I’m
back home, I find myself yearning for more.
The pleasant memories of this visit are so vividly
etched in my mind, it seems as if it had been
yesterday.

Memories galore

The first impression of the place is that of a land of
golden beaches dotted with coconut trees — a place I
would recommend everyone visit.

It will leave them with beautiful memories and a
longing to return to its shores.

Dubai: UAE is known for its tolerance and respect for
other religions and residents can freely pray at a
Hindu temple, a Christian Church or a Sikh Gurudwara.

Most non-Muslim worshippers hold their main mass or
services on Fridays.

Non-Muslims can enter mosques here but are advised to
wear modest clothing and women must cover their head.

The churches and temples in the UAE were built more

According to the residency law of the country, those
who employ a non-Muslim domestic helper must allow the
employee to visit his or her church or temple to

[Goanet] New technology could rid Dubai of wast, including plastic bags, forever.

New German technology could rid Dubai of waste
By Kevin Scott, Gulf News Reporter

Dubai: A team of German scientists say they have
developed the technology to rid Dubai of waste,
including plastic bags, forever.

The city has been targeted as an ideal strategic
location for Ecocycling, a revolutionary new concept
developed by scientist Franz Philip.

The process involves turning waste, both household and
toxic, into a raw material that forms the basis of a
new product that can be used in the construction or
oil industry.

The new technology could transform plastic bags from
being an environmental menace into a substance with
many benefits. Gulf News has been campaigning against
the use of plastic carriers and is urging people to
say No to Plastic Bags.

Waste-free

Michael Engelhardt, Managing Director of Clean Planet
Limited, the company with exclusive distribution
rights to the pioneering technology, said the UAE had
the opportunity to become the first waste-free country
in the world.
We have invited Techno Park, a subsidiary of Dubai
World, to come and view this absolute zero-waste
technology. It would have tremendous benefits for
everyone living here and the impact of future
developments on the tourism industry would be
fabulous. It would dramatically change the city's
environmental situation.

Ecocycling is a cold mineralisation process where
waste is torn apart and molecules are encapsulated in
the resultant silicate structure.

Numerous materials can be developed from C.M500. It
can be used as a basis for road construction, desert
greenery or to produce Xment, a product much harder
than standard cement that can be shaped, like plastic,
if Xfibre is added.

C.M500 can also be used as a revolutionary new oil
binder because the mineral sucks up sludge when poured
on to an oil spill. Data from the Organisation of
Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) shows the UAE has
between 30 and 40 million tonnes of highly toxic and
dangerous oil sludge. Engelhardt said Ecocycling was
a much better alternative to dumping, incineration and
normal recycling.

He said: Waste in Dubai is being dumped in landfills
in the desert. It has become a huge problem because
the landfills are located in important development and
residential areas.

This technology would particularly benefit Dubai as
it already has a very severe waste problem that will
only get worse as the population continues to grow.
A test plant is currently in operation in Wurzburg,
near Frankfurt, and they are awaiting final approval
from the German government.

ECOCYCLING
this is how it works
Ecocycling is a cold mineralisation process where
waste is torn apart and molecules are encapsulated in
the resultant silicate structure. The waste is
transformed into a mineral called C.M500, a non-toxic
product suitable for applications in the construction
or oil industry.

Household waste, including plastic, is put through a
huge shredder and reduced to small pieces about 10
centimetres in size. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals
are separated before the waste goes through a grinder
to reduce it even further.

Toxic waste is then added to the household rubbish,
which produces a chemical reaction. Magic powder
containing nine basic additives is the final
ingredient added to the mix. The process, which has no
effect on the environment, creates the mineral C.M500.

  2008 International Goan Convention

While the rape and murder of Scarlett Keeling has led
to Britain updating its travel advisory to Goa, on
March 7, other countries like the US, Japan, Russia
and Israel have all separately questioned the Goa
Tourism Ministry with concern.

Foreign offices of the above countries have written to
the Goa Tourism Minister Mickey Pacheco asking why
they shouldn’t issue travel advisories declaring Goa
unsafe.

“In the wake of frequent foreigner deaths, and with
causes of over 50 such deaths in the last five years
still remaining a mystery (still awaiting laboratory
reports), and reports of a thriving drug mafia, I’m
being asked questions about action taken.

The foreign offices of Britain, US, Japan, Russia and
Israel have all written to me about Goa turning into a
unsafe tourist destination,” Pacheco told Sunday MiD
DAY.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) in
London has already dashed cautionary messages to their
clients traveling to foreign countries.

Pachecho added that he would constitute a tourism task
force to allay their fears. And while the tourism
ministry is trying its best to prevent Goa’s image
from being maligned as an unsafe destination, the home
ministry in Goa has blamed the tourists themselves.
With the Scarlett case generating interest with
questions being asked, not just about the deceased,
but now also about her mother Fiona’s past — the Goa
government does not have a clear answer.

However, Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat does not
think tourism will be affected due to a few isolated
cases, which, he said, had been blown out of
proportion by the media. Talking to Sunday MiD DAY, he
said, “Goa has always attracted tourists from
different parts of the world and is safe as always.”
Kamat had earlier controversially said that foreign
women tourists had to be careful, and that they
couldn’t just do these things and then blame the
government for the consequences. On this, he clarified
that all he meant was that as ‘we’ take precautions
when visiting a foreign country, tourists visiting Goa
needed to be cautious too.

Meanwhile Goa home minister Ravi Naik told Sunday MiD
DAY that he was in the possession of a criminal
investigation department (CID) report which
highlighted the fact that foreign tourists wore beach
outfits even while walking down the Anjuna market road
stretch.

“These foreigners also use their children as carriers
to transport drugs,” Naik said, blaming Fiona Mackewon
of using her children for the purpose. The home
minister accused Scarlett’s mother Fiona of having
drugs on her while making a trip to Karnataka. “This
will soon be proved,” he said. Fiona has denied this.

Though Naik, who has been accused by Fiona of trying
to hush up the case to protect a few influential
people (read drug mafia), refuses to acknowledge that
Goa has turned into a hotspot for the drug cartel, he
claims that it was always the tourists who were
involved. “The involvement of tourists is evident from
the fact that nearly half of the people arrested in
narcotics cases are foreigners,” he said.

The inspector general of Goa Kishan Kumar said, “In
2007, the death toll from drug abuse was 59. And 55
foreigners died in the previous year,” Kumar said.
Records however reveal that in half the cases,
touching 350 in the last five years, the cause of
death still remains unknown since the viscera report
is yet to received.

“In 2008, the number of cases sent for viscera
analysis is six of twelve deaths,” the head of
forensic medicine, Goa Medical College (GMC) Dr
Silvano Sapeco said. All the cases were referred to
laboratories in Hyderabad and Mumbai, because drug
abuse was suspected.

“All these cases pertain to foreigners,” Sapeco said.
The viscera report establishes whether death was due
to presence of drugs or poison in the stomach. Goa
does not have such a laboratory. “Till reports arrive,
it is difficult to invoke Section 302 of the Indian
Penal Code (murder),” Nerlon Albuquerque, the police
official suspended in the Keeling case, said.

I can say, that the CM, The Minister's, the MLA's
the police are involved in the drug racket. How? see
the drug mafia meet the police, the police informs the
Minister, the Minister ask for his benefit, the drug
mafia offer them the percentage of share. Same like

They can easily stop all this but.

Police say British teen was murdered in Goa
Monday 10 Mar, 2008

Police in the popular Indian resort state of Goa have
launched a murder investigation and arrested three
local men after the partially naked body of a British
teenager was found last month on a beach. The
announcement came after doctors conducted a fresh
autopsy and concluded that 15-year-old Scarlette
Keeling was murdered, and did not drown as local
police had initially insisted.

“We are investigating it as a murder case,” senior Goa
state police official Kishan Kumar told reporters
yesterday, the morning after a panel of three doctors
conducted a six-hour examination of the body. “There
will be detentions now,” he added, without providing
details, although sources say the owner of a cafe on
popular Anjuna beach where Keeling was last seen alive
is likely to be questioned.

But Kumar denied allegations by Fiona MacKeown,
Keeling’s mother, that police had tried to hush-up the
murder. “Police never failed in their duty. They were
right on the track,” Kumar said. MacKeown pointed to
the large numbers of bruises on her daughter’s body to
bolster her call for a second examination after an
earlier autopsy concluded the girl drowned in the
Arabian Sea.

The first autopsy found only five bruises on Keeling’s
body, but Saturday’s examination discovered as many as
50, with many of them believed to have been inflicted
before she died. The family suspects Keeling may have
been sexually assaulted before she died.

[Goanet] Tiatr : He Goynche Put - a good presentation!!

2008-01-19 Thread borg costa

Inacio de Canacona presents ‘He Goynche Put’ a drama
based on the sacrificial life of a priest, his brother
and parents. A different story and a good
presentation!!

Anushka and Lazarus have two sons. One has been
ordained a priest and deputed to a place with plenty
of communal violence but also with a need of a
missionary. The other son, Derrick, was a no good
womaniser but has turned a new leaf with the prayers
of his brother as well as some good advice. He is
going to marry Riya, daughter of PI Braz, a honest
cop. On the day of the wedding the family awaits the
arrival of the priest, who is supposed to celebrate
the nuptials. But there is some terrible
news.Watch the rest in this impressive drama that
has a nice message at the end.

The title ‘He Goynche Put’ refers to Fr Agnel and Fr
Jose Vaz and the director exhorts the Goan youth to
emulate these holy priests. The Script has some good
dialogues especially between the young priest and the
leader of the religious bigots.

The cast has a couple of veterans but mostly fresh
faces; Natty makes a fine debut on the Konkani stage
with a beautiful performance as Riya. Her stage
presence, dialogue delivery and overall acting are
very good for a newcomer. Keep it up Natty, we hope to
see more of you on the stage.

Jessie plays the role of the mother in her usual
confidence and Flavia acts as the nun. Neville is
perfect as the young priest and later as the Vicar,
and so is Baptist as the unfortunate Derrick and
Inacio as the leader of the communal goons. Peter de
Merces is the father, Lazarus and Gabriel, the honest
cop. Marshall is the sacristan in the Church.

The tragic tale is offset by good comedy from Rumaldo,
Pitush and Allwyn, who present some good fun.

The opening song is rendered by Inacio with music
provided by Braz de Xelvona. In between the acts there
are some nice songs form Inacio, Jack, Rosario and an
impressive trio from Inacio-Neville-Baptist.

Watch this drama by the upcoming director; it has
entertainment and a nice presentation

He can kill for a Sorpotel and loves Feni

2007-12-04 Thread borg costa
There is No Better Venue than Goa for the IFFI’
by Christina Viegas
navhindtimes.com

In a ‘one-to-one’ with Christina Viegas.

Kabir Bedi, India’s popular International actor, says
that he can kill for a ‘Sorpotel’ and loves drinking
‘Feni’

Striding towards me with the magnetic royalty of the
majestic lion itself, actor Kabir Bedi is ‘all smiles’
when asked about his relationship with Goa. In regal
style, he states, “I have been coming to Goa for the
last 30 years. Even when I was abroad, I made it a
point to come down to this beautiful place. I was even
present when Goa hosted the International Film
Festival of India, for the first time.”

So, what draws him to this ‘maravilloso paradiso’?
Bedi replies, “Everything about this state is
beautiful – its people, the atmosphere. I love
drinking the ‘feni’, while, I can kill for a
‘sorpotel’. I mean there is such a wide range of Goan
delicacies to satiate the taste buds – your
‘vindaloos’, ‘xacutis’, ‘cafraels’, everything.”

Quickly, he raises his voice, “I plead with the
legislators to pass legislations that will necessitate
that the builders who buy land have to build houses in
true traditional Goan style. This has to be strictly
followed otherwise they will ruin the landscape of
this beautiful place.”

What is the star’s take on Goa being announced as the
permanent venue for the IFFI? The lion roars, “I feel
there is no better venue to host this festival. The
festival has definitely grown. This year 176 films
from 46 countries were screened, 117 were foreign
films and 49 were Indian. The organisers deserve to be
praised, everything was very well organised and this
can go on to become one of the most important
festivals in the world. But, this calls for a long
term vision, and for the involvement of huge corporate
funding.”

While most felt that this year the IFFI was more
cinema oriented devoid of carnival activities, the
actor opines that these activities should not be done
away with entirely. He explains, “The festival is
about films, but it is also about showcasing the
Indian culture, whether it is the floats from Goa, or
the ‘Bhangra’ from Punjab.”

Full of life, Bedi is extremely excited about the
closing ceremony of the festival where he plays host.
He says, “It is definitely not going to be a song and
dance kind of ceremony, but more focused on the
awards. And, it is so appropriate to have the Spanish
film ‘Fados’ as the closing film. With Lisbon as the
iconic backdrop, it involves music and the culture of

 Mogall Miguel bab,
On Mon, 26 Nov 2007, you wrote:
Let us TOGETHER demand that the relevant
 amendment

 Roman
in the Official Language Act, 1987 during the winter
session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
 My response:
Had there been a prize for the champion “jumper to
unwarranted conclusions” you would have won it hands
down. Sample some of your feats of just the past
 two
 weeks:
 1. The KBM mentions the words “Romi Konkani” in its
press release regarding a workshop for budding
 Konkani
writers in Roman script. Ergo, you scream: KBM
MALICIOUSLY uses the phrase Romi Konknni (15
Nov/11). And this expression is something the group
you have been rooting for has been using day in and
day out for the last two years and more; but you
 never
ever noticed. But when you noticed the letters
 “KBM,”
immediately you saw malice. By the way, I attended
the function held to release Marcos Gonsalves’
“Konnsam” at Margao Residency on the evening of
Sunday, 25 Nov. (The function concluded the
“publisher’s shibir” for budding Konkani writers in
Roman script that was held during the day at the
 same
venue.) Tomazinho Cardoso, who released the book,
 used
the expression “Romi Konknni” several times during
 his
short speech. So did Agnelo Alcasoas and Michael
Gracias in theirs. This only means that you have
 not
succeeded in educating even your cronies on the
MALICIOUS connotations of this expression. Unless,
 of
course, these worthies too bear malice towards
 Konkani
 in Roman script!
 2. You found that, at the Condolence Meeting held
 in
Panaji to mourn the late revered Fr. Moreno, some
persons whom you expected to attend were missing.
Ergo, you say that they BOYCOTTED the meeting. (25
Nov) Have you ever heard of anyone boycotting a
condolence meeting before this? I haven’t. And why
should anyone boycott a condolence meeting? A
 boycott
is essentially used to record protest, resentment
 or,
at least, displeasure; and one generally announces
this or at least tells some people; without this
formality, the boycott becomes meaningless. Did
anyone who, according to you, is supposed to have
boycotted the meeting tell you that he/she/they had
boycotted it, whether before or after the meeting?
Else, how did you jump to this conclusion? And why
would anyone even think of boycotting the Condolence
Meeting for a saintly (even if senile in your
reckoning!) priest like Fr. Moreno? Even sworn
 enemies don’t do that.
 3. The Condolence meeting on 24 Nov. ORGANIZED by
“Konknni Ekvott” was HELD at KBM School Hall. The
reason for choosing this inconvenient venue was that
the Margao Municipal Hall is closed for
repairs/renovation and hence not available. But you
jump to the conclusion that it was KBM that
 ORGANIZED
this meeting (25 Nov). You further propose that the
reasons for converting a workshop into a seminar be
DISCUSSED AT THAT CONDOLENCE MEETING. My dear
 Miguel
bab, is your head in the right place? Are such
 issues
or anything for that matter, ever DISCUSSED during a
 Condolence meeting?
 4. And now, you have jumped to a gem of a
 conclusion.
I said this proposition is at least A rational one,
and not THE rational one. And you jump to the
conclusion that I support that proposition! All I
meant is that this proposition is rational compared
 to
the stupidity that you have been pursuing for the
 last
few years. Was the meaning so difficult to discern?

Or is this too much to ask of a columnist writing
 exclusively for English readership?

Dear Wilson,

You did the right thing talking to Churchill about the
language issue.

When you announce in Dubai about the Romi lipi my
friend said to me, to tell you, to ask Churchill about
the language amendment, cause last year you sang the
songs on Mopa airport Romi lipi praising Churchill.

To tell you frankly the politicians like Churchill
want only the money fame. He joined the congress not
because of Goa Goans but for fulfill his personal
needs. They dont care about Goa Goans.

Like Sardina, Luizinho, etc..., Churchill used the
tiatrists for his gain. Now, he got what he wanted he
must be saying Tumi Tiatristak Xettar mar chouda
sorry but this is the fact.

As you wrote Truth always wins. Politicians may delay
that victory, but they cannot deny it. You are
correct Mr. Wilson.

Keep the fight going...

DUBAI — ABC Benaulim (Emirates ICA) beat CAC Cansaulim
2-1 to lift the Pehla Cup in the 4th All Goa
inter-village football tournament played at the
Iranian Club stadium, Dubai.

Vollan scored to give Benaulim a 1-0 lead from a nice
cross of their captain.

However, Cansaulim reduced to 10 men as their
goalkeeper was given the second yellow and marching
orders for handling the ball outside the area. He
receive the first yellow card for running out to the
center for attacking Benaulim player who indeed has
slapped canasulim's player without the referee's
notice.

The final match witness a poor refereeing by the
French referee also the linesmans were not up to the
mark. United Goans could have arranged better referees
for the finals.

The first half ended Benaulim leading 1-0.

In the second half Benaulim scored through a spot
kick. The substitute goalkeeper brought down the
Benaulim captain. Former Dempo midfilder Orlando
Viegas score from the spot.

Cansaulim with ten men put the pressure on Benaulim as
they miss two open chances. It was Vincy who miss both
the chances. Cansaulim scored through Remedious with a
powerful shot which stuck the goalpost and went
inside.

Cansaulim tried to draw level but the defence of

scheduled for October 19 at the Iranian Club stadium,
Dubai.

CAC Cansaulim edge past Vanxim Divar

DUBAI — Vaxim Divar were dumped out of the Pehla Cup
by Cansaulim after having two players sent off in the
first half.

Cansaulim overcame nine-man Vanxim Divar 5-4 on
penalties in the first semifinal.

The Chairman of the United Goans Organising comittee
manager of Vaxim Divar attacked the referee for red
card shown to the two players and the match was held
for 15-20 minutes as the referee refused to start the
match. Later the Chairman of the Organising comittee
manager of Vaxim Divar were ordered to go out of the
stadium by the referee and the match was re-started.
What a shame for United Goans!!! the manager of
Vaxim Divar. Well done referee!! keep it up...

In an earlier match, two goals in the second-half by
Oswald Fernandes and Anthony Reveredo earned Goa Vehla
Al Zuari a 2-0 win against AVC Moses Eleven for place
in the plate final.

Divar, the defending champions were reduced to nine
men after Benny Fernandes and Russel Rodrigues were
sent off for fouls.

The two sides failed to break the deadlock after the
regulation period forcing the penalty shoot-out.
Jonathan D’Souza, Cruz Dias, Vincent Souza, Ernesto
Fernandes and Agnelo Gomes converted for Cansaulim.
Cosme Monteiro, Henry Carvalho, Santian Colaco and
Creighton were on target for Vanxim Divar while
Derrick D’Souza missed.

Vanxim Divar went on early attack for Dino Dias to
create his side’s first attempt at goal which was well
dealt with by the defence. Cansaulim’s keeper,
Venkatish Chimulkar dropped another shot by Dino but
Rody Fernandes managed to clear the goalbound effort
in the third minute.

Benny Fernandes was then sent off, five minutes later,
for a foul on Cansaulim’s Simon Andrade. Cansaulim
appeared more aggressive after that.

ABC Benaulim edge past Siolim in Goan semis

DUBAI — ABC Benaulim (ICA) defeated St. Anthony’s
Siolim 2-1 for a berth in the final of the 4th All Goa
inter-village football tournament for the Pehla Cup at
the Iranian Club stadium here yesterday.

Russel Rodrigues, who was later voted man of the
match, opened the scoring for his side after nine
minutes.

Reynold Agnelo put Siolim on level before the break.
But Rodrigues struck the winner for Benaulim, five
minute on resumption.

St. Anthony’s Siolim, meanwhile, were in command in
the early proceedings putting their opponents under
intense pressure.

They went on to create a few chances and the best was
in the 5th minute when Benaulim’s keeper, Wilson
Machado, had to rush out to smother a volley from
Clifford Fernandes.

Benaulim shocked Siolim with Michael Coelho
controlling a shot pass on the left and his cross was
headed home by Russel Rodrigues.

Siolim fought back for Reynold Agnelo to put them on
level 1-1 with a brilliant 20-metre free-kick.

The referee for this match was not up to the mark.

minutes after the recess. But Russell struck the

Vaxim beat Navelim

DUBAI — Dominic Fernandes was on target to give
defending champions Vaxim Divar a solitary goal
victory over Navelim Clipsal for a semifinal berth in
the 4th annual All Goa inter-village football
tournament for the Pehla Cup at the Iranian Club
stadium yesterday.

After a goalless first-half, Fernandes blasted a left
footer home a well-measured cross from Dino Dias,
three minutes on resumption, to claim a hard-fought
win. Dias was later voted man of the match.

The clash was a repeat of last year’s final where
Vaxim Divar beat their opponents, who played in the
name of Morgem, 4-1. Navelim Clipsal took the early
initiative creating the first chance forcing Vaxim
Divar’s keeper, Manuel Vaz, to make a save in the
first minute.

Vaxim Divar responded and with the hard-working
Randall creating a lot of problems in the opposing
defence. He once drove a fierce shot which Inacio
Rodrigues smothered. Vaxim Divar went on to earn the
first corner of the match but the Navelim defenders
managed to weather the storm.

Dino Dias of Vaxim Divar demonstrated a fine skill on
the right as he swerved past two defenders on the
right only for Benny Fernandes to fumble with his
through pass from just a few metres. Navelim Clipsal
also had a chance from a corner taken by Vishal
Fernandes that the keeper punched on to the feet of
Joe Pereira whose effort hit the bar.

In an earlier match, Goa Vehla Al Zuari beat a
selected side, playing in the colours of SFX Old Goa,
3-0 for a place in the semifinals of the plate
competition. Julius Noronha, who was named man of the
match, scored in the 15th minute of the first-half.

Oswald Fernandes doubled the scores from the spot,
five minutes on resumption, with Wilton Goes adding
the third, two minutes from the end.

DUBAI — CAC Cansaulim oust Fr Agnel Pilar 7-6 on
penalties for a semifinal spot in the 4th annual All
Goa inter-village football tournament for the Pehla
Cup at the Iranian Club stadium yesterday.

Rody scored to send Cansaulim fans to celeberate a
fine victory.

After a goalless first-half, Caithan Fernandes opened
the scoring for Pilar, three minutes into the
second-half, but Jonathan D’Souza struck the leveller,
four minutes later to force a penalty shoot-out.

During the shoot-out, Venkatesh Chimulkar, Ernesto
Fernandes, Rody Fernandes, Simon Andrade, Vincent
Souza, Cruz Dias and Jonathan D’Souza converted their
kicks for CAC Cansaulim.

Sebyton Colaco, George Baretto, Joe D’Silva, Caithan
Fernandes, Manuel Pinto and Thomas Dias scored for
Pilar. Roger Lourenco of Pilar was voted man of the
match.

Though PR. Agnel Pilar took the early initiative
through Tony Gomes forcing keeper Venkatesh Chimulkar
to make a save, CAC Cansaulim gradually gained the
edge. Vincent Souza and Fernandes put together a
string of spectacular passes to have Pilar defence
worried. Pilar’s Evaristo Pereira rushed out on
several occasions to deny Remedios Rodrigues and
Jonathan D’Souza.

In an earlier match, AVC Moses Eleven defeated Raia
2-0 for a semi place in the plate competition. After a
goalless first-half, Vane Dias finished off a fine
move initiated by Jose Fernandes to give his side the
lead, ten minutes into the session..
Raia created a few chances after that in an attempt to
save the match.

Dear Cedrico,

Thank you for your mail.

Dear first of all I'm not in the committee, nor i'm
the member of United Goans last i m not a supporter
of United Goans.

Dear,I ignore your last para cause i did not know the
name of the player. I did not know that they stoped
Mr. Alariac Gomes to play for a team? Now that u
mentioned Mr. Alariac's name, let me find out why they
did not allow him to play. This is injustic..

Last year the rebellion took place because of Mr.
Bonnie - who frequently changes sides because of
money, ABC Benaulim, Siolim United Varca. The first
people to dumped Goan Cultural Society form United
Goans and the first one to join the GCS.

You know that the United Goans paid Dhs. 5,000/= to
Bonnie to change the side? Ask the committee members
of United Goans you will get the answer.

I blame the Goan Cultural Society for all the mess
they created among the Goans and division of football
teams lovers.

Thanks,

Borgee

 Dear Bogee,

u convieniently ignored my last para where in i
asked you y ur organising team refused to allow
Alariac Gomes to play for a team?

also u must figure the reason y the rebellion took
 place last year...

its okay, i get your point,

enjoy the football and ensure your committee doesnt
give a rise to multi rebellions by another year!

Hi Cedric,

I think the Organiser of this year tournanment United
Goans doing a fine job. Remember it is not easy to
organise such tournanments. We all are working here
and to arrange the sponsors, stadium etc is not at all
easy. As you said that Goans abroad are never united,
unlike their other counterparts. they act typically
like the crabs in the basket... If you know this than
why the hell are you pulling United Goans legs?

You wrote that the rebel soccer tournament organised
last year at al nasr was so professionally organised.
Where the professionals are gone this year? They are
not professionals if they were professionals than the
United Goans would have never formed. The
professionals as u call them, were looking only for
the money?

Mog assundhi!!

borgee

 Goan Soccer in Dubai

Mr Eugene Correa thanks for that update, the goan
soccer tournament in dubai is organised so
sheepishly that it is shameful to see a small
cotorie of people fumble all the time. Over the
years things never improved, infact the rebel soccer
tournament organised last year at al nasr was so
professionally organised that the one at iranian
club should take lessons from them.

Goans abroad are never united, unlike their other
counterparts. they act typically like the crabs in
the basket...the social organisations in dubai
related to goa are excellent examples. Thats the
exact reason that unlike kuwait, qatar and other
gulf countries, Dubai doesnt host any great goan
event of its own, except an occassional tiatr.
Further more, the senior organisers try to put
obstacles in the way of others when you try and
organise an event. Having personally being involved
in events management and hosting them, i have seen
 it personally.

Also, as you try to paint the current soccer
organisers in bright colours, can you tell me or the
world why was a certain media man (a close friend
of mine) not allowed to play for a team he wanted
to, despite being medically fit...were the
organisers biased there to deny this great
footballer a chance to play just because he belonged
to a media house in Dubai that didn't cover your
 football event?

Do we see some politics here...?

“Utt Goenkara” has expressed deep concern and anger
over the total breakdown in the law and order
situation in Goa and has demanded that the
recruitment, promotion and transfer of police
personnel should be free from any political
 interference.

“Utt Goenkara” has stated that a “lawless Minister”
like Mr. Vishwajeet Rane and a “criminal minded”
police officer like Old Goa Police Inspector Mr.
Vishwesh Karpe were bad role models.

Vishwajeet Rane was a fit case to be sacked from the
Goa cabinet and Mr. Vishwesh Karpe deserves nothing
 less than compulsory retirement.

 Ridiculing Goa’s government’s expectation that
religious institutions and shops should engage
 private
security, Utt Goenkara has stated that very soon
 every
Goa’s “Aam Aadmi” would have to fend for themselves
 with help of private security.

Utt Goenkara has questioned as to whether the police
would be left only to provide illegal and
unprecedented security cover to politicians and
 their
 nefarious henchmen.

Police officers that cannot uphold the law due to
personal or political compulsions should be
compulsorily retired and allowed to be employees of
 politicians of their choice.

On 26th September 2007 in a notice sent to the Chief
Secretary and the Director General of Police, it has

demanded immediate disciplinary action against Mr.
Vishwesh Karpe, the Police Inspector of Old Goa
 Police
Station, for grave dereliction of duty in grossly
delaying registering of the F.I.R in connection with
the threat issued by Health Minister of Goa Mr.
 Vishwajeet Rane.

When a copy of the notice was sent to the Old Goa
Police Station on 26th September, Police Inspector
 Mr.
Vishwesh Karpe refused to accept the notice and
verbally abused the messenger Mr. Atanasio Menino
D’Cruz who was delivering the notice.

Police Inspector Karpe told Mr. D’Cruz that for
 being
after Mr. Vishwajeet Rane that he (police Inspector
Karpe) would teach Utt Goenkara activists a lesson
 and
 finish them off.

Inspector Mr. Vishwesh Karpe by threatening to
 finish
social activists off had committed an offence
punishable under section 506 (II) of the Indian
 Penal
 Code.

The conduct of Police Inspector Vishwesh Karpe was
unbecoming of an officer in charge of a police
 station
and contrary to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s
assurance that the Goa Police will be sensitive to
Public complaints and deal with the “Aam Aadmi” in a
 very courteous and caring manner.

Goa's DGP has been told that if there was any attack
on social activists or on their families and
properties, the said Police Inspector Mr. Vishwesh
Karpe along with Health Minister Mr. Vishwajeet Rane
should be treated as prime suspects in view of the
 threats issued by them.

On the Dayanand Social Security Scheme, Utt Goenkara
has stated that the scheme which was launched six
years ago on October 2nd 2001 was subject to
 political
 interference and administrative mismanagement and
therefore in dire straits and in need of a total
 revamp.

The scheme, which was meant to be “Freedom from
 Hunger”, had stopped processing applications
 received
from April 2007 and Goa has run out of funds to make
even the September payments to the existing
 beneficiaries.

Demanding that the scheme should give an enhanced
financial benefit to only the most vulnerable
 sections
of society, Utt Goenkara has wondered as to how MLAs
and MPs were allowed to certify the income, age and
residence of the applicants, given that such
information had to be certified by the local
Mamlatdars on a report submitted by the Talathi of
 the
 area.

DUBAI — ABC Benaulim swept aside Siolim United’s
resistance with a 2-0 win for a slot in the
quarter-finals of the 4th All Goa inter-village
football tournament for the Pehla Cup at the Iranian
Club stadium here yesterday.

After a goalless first-half, Clifford Fernandes and
Volan D’Costa struck in the 16th and 19 minutes
respectively to claim victory for their side. Siolim
United’s keeper, Kennedy Noronha, however, stole the
limelight as he saved two spot kicks from Russel
Rodrigues in the 14th minute on resumption and
Orlando Viegas, two minutes later. Kennedy was rightly
voted man of the match, his second award in the
tournament.

The British referee was not up to the mark today. He
awarded the second penalty in favour of Benaulim.
Siolim United protested the referee decision to award
the penalty for a handball. The match was held up for
about 15 minutes and after the efforts from the
organising committee the match was resumed.

Vanxim Divar also made it to the same round after
beating SFX Old Goal by a solitary goal scored by
Dominic Fernandes, 15th minute of the second-half.
Fernandes was later voted man of the match.

Raia, meanwhile, hammered Nuvem Al Seer 6-0 in an
earlier match. Raia took a 3-0 first-half lead through
Agnello Fernandes, Neville Pereira and Mervin D’Souza.
Raia kept the same pace after the break to fire three
more goals with Agnello Fernandes netting his second
of the match. Kevin D’Souza and Alban Almeida, who was
later named man of the match, adding one each.

DUBAI — The Indian national football team hope to ride
on their recent Nehru Cup success when they launch
their 2010 World Cup qualifiers, starting next month.

The Indian team are in Dubai for a ten-day training
exercise before flying to Lebanon for the first leg
match in Beirut on October 8. The return leg is
scheduled for October 28. As part of their training
stint in Dubai, India will face Al Nasr at the Al
Maktoum Stadium in Dubai on October 1, at 9.30pm.
National team coach, Bob Houghton, speaking to Khaleej
Times yesterday, said: “Winning the Nehru Cup had
boosted the confidence of the team. The players are
more confident than before. Since last December, we
have played 14 matches and lost only two.”

India stunned Syria, ranked 123 in the world by a
solitary goal in the final of the the five-team
tournament held in New Delhi last month. India are
ranked 145 in the Fifa ranking.

Houghton sees the first leg qualifier against Lebanon
as another great test for the team. “We have watched
some videos of the Lebanese team and their style is
similar to Syria.” The Syrians, according to the head
coach, beat Lebanon in June. On India’s chances, he
said: “It is going to be a difficult match. If you had
asked me a year ago, I would have said ‘no chance’.
But this time I am confident we can do something. A
draw in Lebanon will be a great result for us.” All
the players, Houghton confides, are in superb mental
shape except one or two players who have slight
injuries. “The boys are happy and looking ahead to the
challenge ahead. The Englishman thanked Al Ahli Club
for their kind gesture of giving them the grounds to
train. Predip Chowdhary, manager of the team, said the
players are in good shape and in fighting spirit. “The
team have been transformed and enjoying the success of
the Nehru Cup.

It is a great achievement for winning the title for
the first time after thirteen attempts,” he said.

Against Lebanon, Chowdhary said it would be a tough
match. “But we hope to fight hard for a win,” he
added.

The squad: Goalkeepers: Sandip Nandy, Subhashish Roy
Choudhury, Subrata Paul.

Defenders: Irungbam Surkumar Singh,Mahesh Gawli,Syed
Rahim Nabi, Samir Naik Nanjangud Shivnanju Manju,
Debabrata Roy

DUBAI — Jonathan D’Souza came in the second half and
struck three goals to help CAC Cansaulim to a crushing
a 5-0 victory over Nuvem Al Seer in their Group D
match of the 4th All Goa inter-village football
tournament at the Iranian Club stadium yesterday.

Remedios Rodrigues Remedios Furtado were the scorer
of the other two goals. It was Nuvem Al Seer’s third
successive defeat having lost to St. Anthony Siolim
and St. Anthony’s Pernem 2-0, 3-0 respectively.

Cansaulim took the early initiative forcing the first
corner of the match in the first minute. Nuven keeper
Hermito was in fine form to divert a shot for
Cansaulim’s second corner of the match in the 4th
minute. Simon Andrade missed an easy chance after
Renfert Philip had failed to clear a pass.

But the most glaring miss of the day was by Remedios
Rodrigues in the 10th minute after beating a defender
and Hermito. With an open goal, Rodrigues went wide on
the right as he struggled to control the ball hitting
into the side netting. Hermito came to his side’s
rescue a few minutes later as he tipped Cruz Dias’
free-kick over the bar.

Remedios Rodrigues, however, opened the scoring for
Cansaulim when he finished off a move by Remedios
Furtado from just five metres. But Rodrigues was
booked by the referee for his wild celebrations and
for removing his shirt.

Jonathan D’Souza, who was named man of the match,
struck three goals in succession for a 4-0 lead before
Furtado sealed the scores with the fifth.

Bonnie of Nuvem (who is also in the orgainzing
committee) got the second yellow card marching
orders for abusing the referee. The spectators booed
Bonnie for his behavior on the field. what a shame!
for orgainzing committee.

In other match of the day, St. Anthony’s Siolim and
St. Anthony’s Pernem split the points in a 1-1 draw.
Jonathan Mendes scored for Siolim while Peter Carvalho
fired the equaliser. Renato Fernandes was the man of
the match.

Today’s matches: 3.45pm FC Siolim v Anjuna; 5pm Fr.
Agnel Pilar EKFC v AVC Moses 11.

DUBAI — Godfrey Rebello scored a goal and created
another as St. Anthony’s Pernem Asemco crushed Nuvem
Al Seer 3-0 in their Group D match of the 4th All Goa
inter-village football tournament for the Pehla Cup at
the Iranian Club stadium yesterday.

Peter Carvalho opened the scoring for St. Anthony’s
Pernem Asemco after 14 minutes in the first-half.
Rebello, who was voted man of the match, created the
second goal for Renato Fernandes to raise the tally
2-0, ten minutes on resumption. Rebello sealed the
scores with the third goal five minutes later.

St. Anthony’s Pernem piled on the early pressure for
Rebello to miss the target with a shot from the right.
Shoan D’Souza gave a lot of support with a series of
fine runs down the right. One such effort and a cross
in the 14th minute beat the Nuvem keeper Hermito for
Peter Carvalho to knock into the empty net for the
opener.

Carvalho had another chance a few minutes later after
a pass picked him clear but Hermito managed to smother
his effort. St. Anthony’s Pernem kept the same pace
after the break forcing Hermito off his line at one
stage for a save. St. Anthony’s Pernem went on to
force two corner kicks in succession but the defence
weathered the storm.

Nuvem Al Seer, however, made one major break through
Julius Noronha from the centre but a quick reaction
from St. Anthony’s Pernem’s keeper Uze Rodrigues saved
the situation. St. Anthony’s Pernem, however, doubled
the scores in the 10th minute of the session when
Renato Fernandes knocked in from close range. Rebello
then sealed the tally with the third following a
goalmouth scramble.

Siolim United, meanwhile, recovered from a goal down
to beat SFX Old Goa 3-1. Constance Nunes put SFX Old
Goal ahead in the 15th minute. But Man of the match,
John Sequira, struck three goals in quick succession
in the final fifteen minutes to snatch an exciting
victory for his side. The tournament, presented by
Seven Stars Exhibition Organising, is sponsored by
Arab Digital Distribution. The co-sponsors are

Group Engineering and Modern Design Construction

DUBAI — Raia put up a spirited display to split the
points with CAC Cansaulim in their opening Group D
match of the 4th All Goa inter-village football
tournament for Pehla Cup at the Iranian Club stadium
yesterday.

CAC Cansaulim were in virtual command of the match but
found the well-organised defence of their opponents
hard to beat. Raia’s keeper, Manuel George, was the
hero as he produced a string of saves, especially in
the second-half, to earn his side a valuable point. He
was later voted man of the match.

In the second match of the day, Dino Dias and Noel
Fernandes were on target to give Vanxim Divar a 2-0
victory against ABC Benaulim. Russel Rodrigues of
Vanxim Divar was named man of the match.

Cansaulim’s early pressure could have earned them one
or two goals through Remedios Rodrigues and C. Dias
but both woefully failed to apply the finishing touch.
Raia’s keeper Manuel George produced a fine save in
the last minutes of the first session to deny Jonathan
D’Souza.

Cansaulim continued to hold the edge as they pressed
for the opener after the break. Luis Fernandes once
volleyed over the bar from just ten metres while
Remedios hit the crossbar midway of the session. But
George’s brilliant saves kept Raia in the match.

The tournament is presented by Seven Stars Exhibition
Organising and sponsored by Arab Digital
Distribution. The co-sponsors are Petrolcom Oil and
Gas Services with Carl Stahl, Wood Group Engineering

DUBAI — Roger Azavedo fired a hat-trick to help Aldona
United to a crushing 5-0 victory over new comers
Marriott Boys (Armona) in their Group C match of the
4th Goa inter-village football tournament for the
Pehla Cup at the Iranian Club stadium yesterday.

Dias, who was later voted man of the match, struck
twice in the first-half and added the third on
resumption. He also had a hand in the other two goals
netted by Andrew Dias in the second-half.

A late strike by Sunny Naik, meanwhile, earned Navelim
Clipsal a hard-fought 1-0 win against Goa Velha Al
Zuari in the second match of the day.

Aldona United virtually dominated the proceedings as
their opponents struggled to find their rhythm.
Marriott Boys made two changes after the break with
Stanley Noronha and Russel D’Souza coming on for
Godfrey Fernandes and Aaron D’Souza. The changes
brought some energy into Marriott Boys’ side but
failed to make any decisive breakthrough.

Goa Velha took the early initiative to create a host
of openings in their opponents’ half.

DUBAI — AVC Moses Eleven and Anjuna settled for an
exciting 1-1 draw in the 4th All Goa inter-village
football tournament for the Pehla Cup at the Iranian
Club stadium here yesterday.

F.C Siolim also picked a valuable point when they held
in-form Fr Agnel Pilar EKFC to a goalless draw in the
second match.

Agnel Pilar dictated the pace with George Barreto,
Rexon Quadros and Sebyton Colaco playing key roles.

Siolim’s keeper Miguel D’Silva made a couple of
crucial saves to keep his side in the game.

Though Siolim defended for the most part of the match,
Sylvester Fernandes and Manuel Fernandes had few
chances to have put their side in front. Siolim’s
Roland Coutino was declared man of the match.

Man of the match, Evan Fernandes, powered Anjuna into
the lead with a thunderous 25-metre volley in the
match against AVC Moses Eleven in the second minute of
the second-half. Jose Fernandes, however, stabbed in
the equaliser four minutes later to grab a point for
AVC Moses Eleven.

The first-half was fairly balanced with both sides
missing some scoring opportunities.

Avinash of Anjuna hit the bar after a fine work from
the centre. AVC Moses Eleven’s Vane Dias also went
close but his weak shot was cleared by a defender.

In the third match of the day, Paul Fernandes and Joe
Coelho struck in each half to give St. Anthony Siolim
a 2-0 victory over Nuven Al Seer in their Group D
match.

Strength lies in unity Watch Mhaka Tumchi Ghoroz Na

2007-01-22 Thread borg costa

  http://www.GOANET.org

This month's Goanet operations sponsored by Mrs. Daisy Faleiro

http://www.navhindtimes.com/articles.php?Story_ID=012233

By J P Pereira -NAVHIND TIMES.

Inacio de Canacona, after the acclaimed ‘Hi Porza’ (in
which a Priest solves a murder mystery), now presents
a family melodrama of jealousy and misunderstandings
where love finally triumphs in “Maka Tumchi Ghoroz
Na”.

There is this family of Gaspar, his wife Rosita, sons
Steve and Cliff and Steve’s wife Assumta. The family
is close-knit and God-fearing. Steve, a military man,
receives a telegram to report at the border, as the
impending war has begun. Steve leaves that very day,
leaving his one-day old wife, in the care of his
parents and younger brother.
Sooraj a no good loafer, who wanted to possess
Assumta, tries to woo her in the absence of her
husband with the help of his alcoholic father, Faria.
The two are unsuccessful and so they hatch a plot to
destroy Assumta’s happiness. Meanwhile, Steve is
reported missing on the warfront. Sooraj uses Faria to
poison the minds of Gaspar and Rosita, with false
tales of Assumta. Soon the much-loved daughter-in-law
becomes a victim of the plot that is going to destroy
her.

Cliff, who has joined the police force returns home to
find his once upon happy household in a turmoil. What
happens later is to be watched out in this drama,
which emphasises that a united family cannot be
destroyed by external forces. The play moves at a fine
pace, with some good dialogues and songs during the
acts. The cast comprising mostly of new faces, perform
quite well. Fatima as Rosita and Bushka as Assumta,
one a veteran and the other a budding talent, give
fine performances in their respective roles. Gabriel
Mascarenhas as Gaspar acts well, but should curtail
the excessive movement of his hands.

Nevil as Steve, Baptista as Cliff and Inacio as Sooraj
act well and Peter as the drunk Faria is perfectly
irritating! The humour is provided by Romaldo as
‘Calor’. He gets a lot of support from the other cast
and raises some good laughs.

Braz Rodrigues’ music is average and there are songs
in between the acts by Inacio de Canacona and Putush
de Panchwadi. Two wonderful solos are rendered by
Edward Estibeiro, especially the first one that is
sung like a duet in the male and female voice, with a
quick change in the dressing.

The lovers of Konkani drama should encourage these new
playwrights by patronizing their dramas. The play is a
must see!!! Not to be missed!!!

[Goanet] Situation in DUBAI - read and think

2006-10-15 Thread borg costa
Truly Something to read and think about current
situation in DUBAI!
Ahlan Dubai... Welcome Dubai...

With so many Indians hopping the next flight to Dubai
(or U.A.E in general) to make their dreams
happenlife would turn out to be a shocker
here. The common problem for youth in India is that
they want tomake too much money in too little a
time.
They are willing to leave India on the first offer
from any country of repute (or even without repute)
without considering the pros and cons. As for the
millions of U.A.E aspirants in India ..guys
hold on do a self assessment based on the under
mentioned facts:-

v Just don't multiply the AED salary by 13 and
convert the same in to rupee earnings. That would be
the first of the many mistakes are likely to make. The
conversion if at all should be done for savings and
not gross earnings.

v If you a married person, consider the cost of
family accommodation in U.A.E and more importantly in
Dubai. The minimum requirement of a one BHK (bedroom,
hall, kitchen) flat would cost you a minimum of AED
4,000/- per month (not per annum, guys) any where in
downtown Dubai. Add a minimum of 10-15% annual
increments in rent. Don't expect the salaries to rise
by even half that %.

v If you are smart enough to realize that you
can look for apartments outside Dubai (Sharjah, Ajman
, RAK) to save AED 1,000 - 1,500
per month in rent , please allow yourself three to
fours hours for commutation every day(given the
present traffic situation, which can only degrade with
influx of millions of immigrants every year).Add that
to a normal 10 hours day would mean you would end up
spending around 14-15 hours a day on job..and you
thought family life would be so much fun in Dubai.

v Be prepared to shell out AED 100/- for a
routine check up at doctors in UAE. If you are lucky
you will not fall ill, but god forbid if you do, then
you will have a big hole in your pocket.

v If you aren't used to summers of north India
and hail from places like Shimla, then you are in for
a treat of your lifetime.
Temperatures can run up to 50 degrees on a normal
sunny afternoon and such days are pretty regular. And
did I mention the humidity levels of 95% I am
sure I did.

v If you don't have children you are
lucky..bcos if you a 2-3 children going to
school..add at least AED 12,000 (per annum per
child) to the cost of living in U.A.E

v You thought petrol here is cheaper and so
would be the taxies...try taking a cab from
airport to your hotel the meter would touch
AED 75-100/- before you will be able to make yourself
comfortable in the Camry.

v You might have the fanciest of all cars
available here, but when it comes to parking the same,
you might regret buying one. Imagine roaming around
the streets of Dubai for 1 hour just to find a parking
space...alas.even that's not
free.don't forget to
display your parking ticket ...else a fine awaits
you.

v Last but not the least of all woes is a triple
call rate to your loved ones in India. INR 30 per
minute from U.A.E to India.whereas as INR 8
per minute from India to UAE .it must give you
an idea what awaits you in Dubai. Don't you dare think
you can use
skype in Dubai .guys its banned and its
illegaleven sites like Orkut are banned
here...so much so for the communication.

v So if you are fascinated by the growing number
of glam malls in Dubai .the ever-changing
skyline all the hype and glory that
surrounds this place ...the bollywood stars
flocking to Dubai every Thursday night .the
cute cars the chic cafés BURJ
DUBAIBURJ AL ARAB ..Dubai Marina; think
twice buddies !! (Remember what you take home
after a lifetime in Dubai are the clothes on your
back and the fils jinging in your pocket ).

No matter how long you stay here you will still be an
expatriate ..no UAE passport .no home.

Trust me, there's nothing like home!!!

Old Goa, Siolim share points
By Khaleejtimes Sports Reporter

DUBAI — Winless SFX Old Goa picked up a valuable point
as they played a thrilling 1-1 draw F.C. Siolim in the
last Group B match of the third All Goa Inter-village
Invitation Football Tournament at the Iranian Club
Stadium here yesterday.

Mario Gaunkar knocked in a rebound to put Siolim in
front nine minutes into the first-half. After the
break, Joe Coelho handled the ball in the box and Old
Goa were awarded the penalty. Joseph converted to put
his side on level terms.

Siolim gathered four points after their last group
match while the once mighty Old Goa collected only two
points from five matches. They are lying at the bottom
of the standings in the group.

Aldona United topped the group with 11 points followed
by CAC Cansaulim (9pts),
And the teams that have made it from Group A to the
quarter-finals are Vanxim Divar (15pts), FR. Angel
Pilar (8pts), St. Anthony’s Pernem (6pts) and Colva
Jebel Ali Hotel (6pts).

Old Goa, meanwhile, were on the defensive for the most
part of the first-half in the match against Siolim.
Josiah Fernandes hit the post after a fine work from
Old Goa’s goal area.

The second-half was fairly balanced as both sides
created openings in each other’s half. Joseph of Old
Goa saw his effort went wide following a brilliant
piece of work on the left while Constancio Nunes was
also thwarted by the defence from the right. Siolim’s
Francis Fernandes, who spearheaded most of his side’s
attacks, was denied by Old Goa’s keeper Inacio
Cardozo. Old Goa’s Constancio Nunes was voted
man-of-the-match.

In the second match of the day, Al Zuari held Colva
Jebel Ali Hotel to a goalless draw.

[Goanet] Dubai Soccer : Cansaulim, Aldona, Divar Pilar in Quaters

2006-10-10 Thread borg costa
By Khaleejtimes Sports Reporter

DUBAI — A penalty conversion in the second-half earned
Group B leaders CAC Cansaulim a hard-fought 1-1 draw
against Aldona United in the third All Goa
Inter-village Invitation Football Tournament at the
Iranian Club Stadium here yesterday.

In the second match of the day, Russell Rodrigues’
strike in the 11th minute of the first-half gave
defending champions and Group A leaders Vanxim Divar a
1-0 victory over St. Anthony’s Pernem. Ashok
Satardekar of Divar was voted man-of-the-match.

The win raised Divar’s points tally to 15. FR Agnel
Pilar are in second with seven points and Colva Jebel
Ali are in third place with four points from three
matches.

Godfrey Fernandes finished off a superb move by Andrew
Dias to give Aldona United the lead in the 11th minute
of the first-half against Cansaulim. Both sides had
some scoring chances after that, but could not convert
them into goals.

Aldona United made a series of inroads into their
opponents’ half after the break. Johnny Dias, Godfrey
Fernandes and Andrew Dias put tremendous pressure on
Cansaulim’s defenders during the early minutes of the
second half. They were duly rewarded five minutes into
the session as Lucas Fernandes fouled an attacker in
the area. Jonathan D’Souza made no mistake from the
spot to put Aldona United on level. Inspired by the
equaliser, Aldona United gained more control, but were
kept at bay by the opposing defence.

Aldona United, who also created a couple of chances,
failed to find the target. Lawrie Gonsalves, the
Aldona United keeper, however, was kept busy for a
spell as Cansaulim put the pressure. Remedios Furtado
and Simon Andrade also went close for Cansaulim in the
closing stages of the match. Cruz Dias of Cansaulim
was named man-of-the-match.

The tournament, organised by All Star Entertainment in

outside the area, five minutes into the first-half.
The victory was Morjim’s first in three matches after
a draw and a loss in their previous two encounters in

in the six-team group.

The defeat was a big blow for Siolim, who had three

proceedings against Morjim with all the action centred
in their opponents’ half. But a well-organised defence
by Nicholau Fernandes, Custodio Vales and player/coach
Maximus Menezes kept Siolim at bay.

The only break for Morjim was five minutes from the
end of the game when John Sequeira ran half a length
of the field but failed to finish off from close
range. Francis Fernandes of Siolim was named Man of
the Match.

Colva prevail

Colva Jebel Ali Hotel, meanwhile, defeated St Estevam
2-1 in the second match of the day. Danny Pereira

break. John D’Souza of Colva was voted Man of the
