Re: [Goanet] Goans should not sell their ancestral property.

2013-02-13 Thread kurt fernandes
I believe every word you have said. My aunt lost her house in Ponda to tenants
living next door. My daughter- in-law's father lost his house in Goa to
relatives and I know of a total stranger in Goa stealing someone's house. This
someone was not living in Goa.. How he managed to change the name on this house
baffles me to this day. My aunt (dead now) and daughter-in-law's father live
abroad. You can 'live' in the Government offices to
get matters sorted out.
This is for your information. God bless Goa! Keep up your good work. M.Fernandes

Everyone advises Goans not to sell their ancestral properties
in Goa. I surely wish we had that choice of not selling our

ancestral property to a squatter who call himself our mundcar.
We have been traipsing to courts and back and visiting mamaladar

and panchayat offices to try and stop this rogue from robbing

our property for the last twenty years.
We were in Goa in January this year 2013 for over a month
as soon as we landed we had two court summons to attend
court and the mamlader's engineer to measure the three hundred sq. metres
for the squatter.
We are forced by the Goa Government to sell our ancestral land to him

for a paltry sum of I believe 20rupees per sq. metre.
What really saddens me is that my ancestors saved enough money to buy
through hard work and went without a lot of essential luxuries to leave
land for their progeny to carry out their wishes, and these people just

walk in and lay claims to our land.
Our wives and children refuse to come to Goa knowing

fully well that we would be embroiled in court cases and we would

not have the time to show them our beautiful Goa.

Re: [Goanet] Please help

First go to Margao and find a place where you get the Portuguese documents
translated
into both English and  Konkani - Portuguese translators and then once you get
the nos that
are on the documents go to the Survey Office, Margao which is the same building
where the Drivers licences, Scooters etc. are renewed, new drivers etc. This
building is opposite the new
Fish Market in Margao. In this building you have the Sub Registrar's Office,
State Bank
of India and a whole lot of offices.I dont remember the name of the building.
This building is next to an open ground where many trade shows, exhibitions take
place - next to Katamba bus stop but before you reach Katamba bus stop- 5 mins
from Katamba. Not far from the Colva, Fatorpa, Margao, Panjim roundabout. Hope
this helps.

[Goanet] Indian Consulate in Toronto...Pros and cons to outscource work

2009-05-15 Thread kurt fernandes
The Indian Consulate in Toronto has moved to 3 different locations in the heart
of the city.Because of the huge dispora of Indians in GTA(Greater Toronto Area)
it is always a good idea to go early much before usuual office hours to get
ahead of the line to get a number. The previous 2 locations were not big enough
to accomodate the number of people ona any given day.The present location is  a
long rectangular hall with plenty of seats and plenty of standing room if
neccessary. It is always a good idea to check the website before deciding which
day you intend to go the website has Public Holidays(Holidays that observed in
India). It is convenient for most people who use the subway service but
suburbanites  have to be prepared for heavy traffic and expensive
parking.Unfortunately the website does not have proper FAQs to cover every
question/query and you will never get a live person at the end of line when you
call the consulate. One has to take the
whole day to do get a visa, submit OCI documents or renew a Visa.Always get a
money order done the day before, make photo copies of  all the documents
and bring all original documents even if they may not be necessary. If you are
married a Non Indian/Indian and you are applying or OCI for yourself you have
to get the documents of the spouse even if they are not applying.Make sure all
the forms are filled out and nothing gets left out. Also make sure photos meet
the proper criteria.Take the application form to the photo studio if neccessary
so they cut it correctly.A lady brought in photos that cut her shoulders off
and she was rejected right a way by individuals who screen the
applications. Carry a glue stick.Any old passport numbers mentioned on a
passport make sure you carry those old passports or be prepared with a
satisfactory answer for the office.I had old hard cover Indian passports prior
to 1985.My preplanned answer was that I was advised
to switch to soft cover to immigrate. The officer insisted there wasn't any
rule but as long you have a passport papert trail you are fine.Make double
copies of every document because applications are made in duplicate. My guess is
1  set goes to India the other says in Toronto. There is Canada Post outlet on
the ground floor doing great business from Consulate visitors. The officer calls
from a microphone in the interview room and is quite muffled so make sure you
listen carefully and don't miss your name called out.Try and remember the
people who are ahead of you so you have an idea when you will be called out.All
OCI application get logged in the order received from the people who screen to
interviewer in batches.
SO ARRIVE EARLY,BRING ALL PROPER DOCUMENTS AND A SNACK IT CAN TAKE ALL DAY

Re: [Goanet] Advice on immigrating back to goa

2008-09-05 Thread kurt fernandes
Hi Remy
It's quite normal to feel like going back
My feeling was almost the same as yours at 32 years age and newly married.
I would stay for your children's future and have global exposure,Since your
wife is at home you can give the best moral upbringing to your kids in UK and
Goa but they have to make descisions and be able to go back to
Mum and Dad and know what's right or wrong
Important check with your wife before making a descision or you you won't hear
the end of it
There are lots of other communities to socialise with after all isn't that one
of of reasons you moved out of Goa
You have to great business plan to make it work..it's possible
All the best
Kurt

In the last 2 years we have been thinking with some

 1. We want kids to grow with a sense of community and

 2. Wife has no chance to advance her career as child care
 is costly and we
think is not favourable in the long term development of the
 child.
 3. I am very passionate about goa and want to be doing
 something[may be
business and have some ideas] that will make a difference
 to the good of the

I have been back to goa for holidays a couple of times and
 i know already
that there are somethings i will have to get used to back

 1. Traffic
 2. Cleaniness
 3. Crab mentality
 4. Bureaucracy and corruption

However, i think i can overcome all this (am not sure of no
 1 :-))

My question really to anyone who would like to reply:
Am i being a fool or deluded to go back to goa as some

this normal to some people to go back. This is a
big decision for us as family.

If you are abroad and planning to visit India be
 aware that Indian Airlines

 only get to know about
this new change after you go through the entire
