[Goanet] Goanetters meet, Cricket and TriMooli ki Sabji
1: Thanks FN for those pics of the Goanetters meet. I concur with Mervyn. It is always good to put a face to a name. Ema and I had planned to come to Goa for a family event. Unfortunately for us, the dates clashed with our assigned leave. This is the second wedding in the family we missed because of a clash of dates. The last one was a couple of years ago in midApril. Even so we were happy to see the pictures of the many names who post. 2: The cricket scene is heating up. It is good to see Pakistan making a come back. They are a talented lot who have unfortunately got involved in this sutta-bazi. Sri Lanka should do better once they correct their 'issues' and make the right team choices. Bangladesh are a young team and they need some experience. India needs to allow the older players to retire gracefully. There appears to be significant talent in the regions and too much load is being placed on the older players. India also needs to drop the Kohlis and Harbhajans of cricket. There is no room for 'over-heated folks' in professional settings. 3: Like my good friend Floriano Lobo, I admire Dr. Wilfred de Souza as a friend, counsellor, teacher (at GMC) and surgeon. I have yet to come across a better surgeon, anywhere, than Dr. Willie. I know that he has made significant personal sacrifices in the hope of making Goa a better place. He (correctly) believed that Bandodkar and the MGP were the root cause for the 'ghettoization' of the previous GMC hospital and the degradation of the standard the health-care delivery provided at GMC. That, sadly, appears to be the case even till this day. Even so and as I have stated repeatedly to Dr. Willie, he (Dr. Willie) would have done more for health care in Goa (Bandodkar, the MGP and the less-competent deputationists, notwithstanding) by staying OUT of partisan politics, and IN medicine. 4: I have NO good vibes about this T-mooli outfit. Even so, like in cricket, it is time for the senior players of politics, to retire and do the next best thing. jc --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

Mr. Goveia, Malign you? N. Your post was very funny (chuckle here). Perhaps I was not clear. I was actually complimenting your attempt to broker peace [albeit with a metaphorical bat] between the one vociferous complainant now threatening to vamp (Yo vixen!), and the as yet silent recipient of invective. Re: [Goanet] Goanetters Meet
Date: Mon, 28 Dec 2009 12:06:22 -0800 (PST) From: Mervyn Lobo I hope Uncle Mario will not get a heart attack when he reads this one. I need him alive for another little while so that he gets to see $1,650 gold :-) Mario responds: Young Mervyn, One of the fundamental building blocks in finance is known as the "Time value of money". If you were familiar with this concept you would know that it is not only what level the price of an investment or commodity will reach but also when. Both are critical in evaluating whether an investment was worth making relative to other investment opportunities. When you predicted %1,650 for the price of gold you said it could be anytime between March of 2008 when it reached $1,000 per oz. and you made your prediction, and when hell freezes over. The time it takes to actually reach $1,650 will determine whether it was a good investment relative to other investment alternatives that were available at the time. Between March of 2008 when you made your prediction and October of 2009 gold was a lousy investment, and we didn't hear a peep from you about gold. Then your socialist icon, Barack Hussein Obama's policies started to kick in. Whether Obama will be able to continue to debase the currency beyond 2010 when his wings are likely to be drastically clipped in the mid-term elections is an open question. In the meantime, it may behoove you to familiarise yourself with these investment basics. I hope this link helps: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/timevalueofmoney.asp

Re: [Goanet] Goanetters Meet
Dear Tony, You know that I am neither extremely fond of you nor fond of you. The good thing among us that neither you nor me will pass by, without saying "hello". If I am not mistaken, you was the first one to stop and exchanged greetings before going to the Goanetters meeting on Monday. You are perfect gentleman! Bless you! Now, let me make few things crystal clear. 1) As a fellow Goanetter, I am very much interested to know what upsets professional journalist Mr Cecil Pinto as he will never ever gets upset easily. He will never get upset for any factual base priori conclusion or statement. However, Cecil Pinto may get upset for bad attitudes like those of typical "Goemchem Mana", lies, ignorance and emotional based false statements. 2) In the past, I attended functioned organised by Cecil Pinto. Two years passed he organised a function at "Aldona Institute" and I attended that function with more than 17 friends, including Goa-netters. All my friends have enjoyed the function very much and often they remember the good time they had. All tickets were sold out in advance. Cecil, please organised more such function and I promise you that I will attend with more friends and Goa-netters. 3) I may be an inactive Goanetter in recent days but I noticed someone is trying to corrupt the Goa-net. I will never allow anyone to corrupt the Goanet, now as well as in future. 4) Active Goanetters become inactive. Some disappears into the thin air like so-called Elizabeth. 5) To orgaines functions in Goa, Cecil Pinto is much much better than my friend Fred Noronha. Who the bleep cares for "Hindis" and "Mohindis" Will never ever allow anyone to corrupt Goanet or attack any decent genuine journalist. I have no idea what is bugging you two but this love-hate relationship has to stop. You and Cecil need to air-kiss and make up. Collaborate on a funny essay, why don't you? Or write a book together. Send some flowers through Cecil to Tony whom you are so fond of. 4. As the lone voice of reason, truth and peace on Goanet, you need to convert all this negative energy into some positive energy. Don't you know the Himalayan icecaps are melting already? Don't make me bring my baseball bat and sort this out:-)) 5. Are there no peacemakers in Goa? Vivian? Tony? Ana Maria?
[Goanet] Goanetters Meet
Dear Tony, You know I am extremely fond of you but I want to make two things absolutely clear. 1) As a fellow Goanetter, I'm not interested in what upsets Cecil Pinto as just about anything can upset the man. 2) I will never attend anything either organised or headed by him. As an active Goanetter, I strongly request that we keep Goanet as uncorrupted as possible. Best, Selma
Re: [Goanet] Goanetters Meet
Tony, I second your suggestion. Few years back, it was organised at Fort Aguada, Sinquerim and the guest speaker was Mr Tomazinho Cardoz. He was the "Speaker" of the Goa Legislative Assembly at the time. The meeting could take place in a small hall and we could have a theme for the meeting with a guest speaker. This could be followed by a brief discussion and some light entertainment. Today's performance by Rui Lobo was excellent. There could be refreshments. I do not think the netters would mind contributing towards snacks and beverages. Those who want to partake of spirits to put themselves in the mood could pay for their own poison. Souvenirs of the meet could also be given. Re: [Goanet] Goanetters meet in Goa.
Many Netters seem to be keen on attending the Annual Goanetters Meet. There is a suggestion to have it in Margao. I have no objection but the venue suggested, Longuinhos is simply impracticable because of the parking problems. If we are to travel from North Goa, then we perforce have to come by some vehicle, so adequate parking should be a must. Incidentally, what is wrong with Panjim? After all, it is the capital city. -- _( )_ (_(%)_)Tony de Sa (_)(_) tonyd...@gmail.com __ | __M: +91 9975 162 897 \_ \|/_/ Ph: +91 832 2470 148 | | Practice safe eating - always use condiments. .-"-. .-"-. .-"-. .-"-. .-"-. .-"-. Re: [Goanet] Goanetters meet in Goa... 2009
Dear Rico: Regrettably I will be missing the meet this year as I will be attending the Silver Wedding of a niece in Poona the same day! I think it will be only the second occasion on which I will be missing the meet since its inception. I wish it every success. Re: [Goanet] Goanetters meet in Goa... 2009
For all that we do to save Goa and for all the love that Goans in the diaspora have for Goa and Goans can we not expect an NRI to sponsor snacks and refreshments at the meet. And why not hold the meet at a suitable place down South say Margao for once. Kindly float this idea on the net GODFREY J. I. GONSALVES, BORDA, MARGAO, 403 602, GOA. Dear Frederick, Wish I could make it. Unfortunately I won't be in Goa for some time. Hope the meet is a great success. Regards, Abigail

Dear Frederick, I am based here in Rome and working in our General Archives. I read with interest what you write and share with us. I will be coming to India on the 22nd. of December 2009 but have to visit my sisters in Mumbai and then go to Bangalore. I am a Redemptorist priest. I am coming to Goa on 5th. - 11th. January 2010 - and will be staying at our house in Alto Porvorim - and so will miss your "Meeting". I will be there in spirit with all of you. God bless you and your work.
[Goanet] Goanetters meet in Goa... 2009
Dear all: Those of you who have been on Goanet for some time now, would easily recall that we hold a face-to-face Goanetters' meet each year in Goa. This is usually held around the end of the year -- when we have more people (Goanetters included) visiting Goa during the festive season. The idea is to meet face-to-face, to share a couple of hours together, and to add a face to an email address :-) This year too, we are working to have a meet on December 28, 2009 evening. The venue will be announced shortly. Please let me know offlist if you'd be in Goa this month, and specially around that date. Already, I've heard from veteran international journalist Alfred Tavares of Stockholm/Loutolim who's now in Goa, Menin Rodrigues of Karachi (will be in Colva, but earlier in Dec) and Stanley Marchon, among others. As more people get onto cyberspace here too, there are a growing number of Goanetters in Goa. Like, for instance, former Sacred Heart Parra principal Tony de Sa tonyde...@gmail.com who's from Moira, and who asked just today as to when the meet would be held. If you have been on Goanet sharing your campaigns and causes, please do come along for the meeting and tell others about the work you're doing. If you are an author who has published a book on Goa, bring a few along for sale, and let's put author-signed books into circulation! If you're a musician, get along your instrument! [Maybe the much-disconnected-in-Goa Karachi Goans could also plan a meet of their own, while Menin is in town. He's a very active community organiser, the author of articles on the Goans of Karachi (in the prestigious newspaper Dawn, etc) and founder-member, Board of Governors of St. Patrick's & St. Joseph's Colleges, Karachi. Incidentally, Menin wrote recently about St. Patrick's College (Est. 1952): "After its denationalization in May 2005 -- after 33 years of government occupation -- the college is now well on its way to achieving academic excellence under the watchful eye and guidance of La Salle Bro. Lawrence Manuel, who has spent more than 40 years in in the Punjab (Multan) with La Salle institutions."] Kindly note, this is an unsponsored, unfunded event -- which means everyone pays for their own eats or drinks. There is no entry fee and all Goanetters are indeed welcome. See you there! For Goanet Admin Team FN Contacts +91-832-2409490 or +91-9822122436 (M). Folks, We have been getting several enquiries to add topics for discussion at the convention. If those of you who have registered for the convention send in what you are interested in, we could make the arrangements or to point you to the appropriate workshop/presentation/discussion. For those Goa-netters who want to meet and put a face to the names on the emails you have been reading all this time, again send us an email and we can arrange a formal or informal meeting. Lastly, the University has state of the art electronic facilities. We will be recording the debates, workshops, etc. and put them on the website after the convention.
