[Goanet] The Distorted Vision Of Our Freedom Fighters In Goa

Do you really think that we are now freer than we were under the Portuguese
rule, or is the so called Liberation only a change of one set of Masters for
an even harsher set?

Let us define what freedom really is. Goa only had freedom before the
Portuguese came. True freedom or Liberation would have meant that the
Liberators hold a plebiscite to determine what the Liberated really wanted
(The will of the people) other than absorption or annexation into India as is
the status quo. That would be true freedom.

Dearest Freddy.
All the bravado of the freedom struggle apart, wonder if you ever
asked people who lived in Goa's important towns/close to important
installations what the situation was in December 1961? Perhaps you
were around at that time.

I was too little to wear pants that year but remember the tension, of
the Indian soldiers coming. Apparently there were b*mb^ bl*sts. I went
around recently in Vasco and some border areas asking people what
their life was like, what they did, what happened (towards a planned
project)different reactions. Some fascinating stories of intrigue,
some stories of Goan unity, brotherhood and caring while there were
others that said, it was business as usual. However, one universal
answer to questions on the freedom fighters: they were never around,
who were they? Their presence was, was absent. They only showed up
after the Indian army has firm control. Later, when the economic
benefits became evident, I guess many more simply appeared.

There is also a story of how a Goan family hid a Portuguese officer
who in an unused tank for three days and a wooden plan over him. He
got on to the last plane to Lisbon and many years later, wrote back to
the family (who themselves left their home and were taken in by a Goan
family who opened their home to everyone.

So freedom f*ghtersI take them with a pinch of salt.

During the time when Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency, freedom fighters like

 put
behind bars, where he was treated like a mere criminal, but it did not break

fighter are more interested in getting rid of the Portuguese names, is that
 what
they fought for ? Does changing of names, gives us the actual freedom ? I am
happy that atleast one of them had the courage to speak against the Casino
culture, but are they all blind to see the depravity and the corruption that
 is
thriving in their beloved Goa, that they fought for ? Why is it that not a
single freedom fighter is raising his voice against the dire effects of
 mining,
on our ecology, environment and the lives of their fellow brethren ? Or are
 they
so desperate for the goodies that the Government throws at them, that they
 fail
to see the reality around them ?

Politicians and bureaucrats in Goa are on a rampage tearing and selling ever

 not
worried about improving the quality of life of Goans and infact doing their
 best
to make life of Goans even more difficult. Corruption and crime are runaway
monsters spreading faster and wider than a cosmic explosion.  Is this what our
freedom fighters had fought for ?

With all due respect for their efforts and sacrifices during the freedom
struggle, they should at least gave the guts to say to our inapt and corrupt
government that the prevailing depravity and corruption was not what they had
fought for. Our politicians are certainly making a mockery of the lives and
sacrifices of our freedom fighters and yet they fail to see it, unfortunately
the vision of our freedom fighters has been distorted and needs to be reverted
or else their fight for freedom will be in vain and we'll most certainly need
 another Goan Revolution, this time

2011 December is the cut-off date [50 years] if any Goan or Goan
Organization can muster up their balls and contest the invasion of Goa by
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the Haig - The World Court. It should be easy
with the Supreme Court of India's ruling that Goa's so called ' Liberation'
in 1961 was 'conquest by invasion' by India. Goa should have taken the
example of East Timor and gone about getting what was rightfully due to Goa
and Goans, hanging by the high masts cowards like connivers Lambert
Mascarenhas, Naguesh Karmali and many many others. It would have been good
riddance to bad rubbish.

At least the 'Special Status for GOA will probably be the by-product of this
challenge which will otherwise never see the light of the day until GOA is
immersed completely into the mainstream India.

Any Goans wants to say something on this topic???

You are WELCOME
Please read carefully who is saying what ! It is GOA SU-RAJ PARTY.

How about Matanhy Saldanha? He is the only guy who has been and is harping
on Special Status for Goa. We have not seen any one else doing that,
including Lambert Mascarenhas, the guy who delivered Goa on the silver
platter to India and who now is crying foul that Goans are opting for
Portuguese Passports. What did he expect. When Shit from India comes a
flowing into Goa, he expects Goans, who have been nurtured in a culture for
centuries alien to the culture of mismanagement like 'garbage every where'
will opt to remain in Goa?

So that Lambert Mascarenhas' eyes are fully opened-UP at his ripe old age,
somebody should dump a load of garbage in front of his gate at La Marvel
Colony, Dona Paula and keep it there for a week so that he suffocates, like
his Goa, which he helped to liberate, suffocates.
