* * * * *http://www.goanet.org* * * * * Stage Play: ON THE HOLY TRAIL Staged By: The Mustard Seed Art Company Where: Kala Academy - Mini Open-air Auditorium When: Dec 20 21, 2007 @ 7pm Read a Review at: http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2007-December/066558.html Hey Joe, U still got it all wrong! Please read my posting properly. U see it is a fact, that only the Gauncar Chaddis are allowed to celebrate and control the Church Funds and administration, because of this Feudal Communidades Sytem. Example, in the village where I come from, only the Gaumkar Caldeiras beloging to the Vangor are allowed to participate and only the gauncar tribes cobtrol the finances et al. My family also Chaddo/chaddi, not descendent from this Gauncar Tribe is not allowed, to participate, even though I used to give huge contributions to Church and other charities, whilst I lived there! That is why I am saying that this Gauncari system of Communidades is the bane of division and apartheid in Goa rather than Caste alone. What I am saying is that: This Feudal Gauncari System and un reformed un democratic Communidaedes system is the root cause of goa's troubles. Sozmollai murre?? Mog assundhi! Nasci Caldeira. = --- JoeGoaUk [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Cansaulim, charddi 3 kings Feast Yes, the three Kings must be from Chardi caste (also knows as gaumcars). Now who are these chardi? No. There are chardis who are Poder and render by profession (bakers toddy tapers) yet they are proud to be chardi. Many chardis are even siphoning public funds (DSSS) Rs.1000 per month (remember my recent 1in3 Goan housesholds living in poverty?) Yet they are proud to be chardis. There are some chardis in the area who are goondas history sheeters, some even serving life sentence for murder. Yet they are chardis. Cansaulim Church is very notorious for such things- I mean Chardi only affair. Parish Priests (who themselves are mainly Chardis) come and go but never bothered to touch these issues. I am sure, Bishop house Altinho too is full of chardis AMKAM KITEAK PODDLAM? DANTUI MHOJE, VONNTTTUI MHOJE. The 3 Reis- 1 each come from Cansaulim, Arossim, Cuelim Usually, starts with Sons first, then grand sons and the cycle continues (kings age group between 5-10). [Goanet] Cansaulim, 3 kings Feast caste
* * * 2007 ANNUAL GOANETTERS MEET - GOA * * * WHERE: Foodland Cafe - Miramar Residency - Miramar, Goa WHEN: December 27, 2007 @ 4:30pm More info: http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2007-December/066098.html Cansaulim, charddi 3 kings Feast This topic was raised more than twice over the last 3/4 years. This time with little bit of a research in the area. (This has the reference to the ongoing discussion on goanet) Yes, the three Kings must be from Chardi caste (also knows as gaumcars). Now who are these chardi? Mainly, Saldanhas, Vaz, Gracias, Barettos etc of Cansaulim/Arossim/Cuelim Mind you there are Vaz in kunnbi community too in the area. Chardi necessarily mean landlords with large Portuguese houses ? On Good Friday, traditionally, life size Jesus Christ Image was taken out in a procession and this was only done by RED OPMUS confrad i.e. Chardi. A row broke out as to why only they and not us (blue Opmus) and since then the image of JC never taken out. This was about 40/50 years ago. See pics 1 King http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk4/139039932/ 2 kings http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk8/352906996/ Following are the prominent figures from the area: Cansaulim: Dr. Luis Proto Barbosa. Ex. Chief Minister of Goa His son too become a Rei in 1970s. The cycle did not complete as his only son (two daughters) , I understand is still a bachelor. Mathany Saldanha ex MLA, they never had a Rei as there are no kids I believe.. Former Sarpanchas Martha Saldanha, Nelson etc Cuelim: Dr. Tristao Braganza Cunha Arrossim: Info n/a. A Rei or a king in the house means very expensive affair (as expensive as wedding) The hand made kings crown (KROV) was costing around Rs.300 in 1970s which was big money then. At that time air travel to Bombay was costing only Rs.90 o/w. I think I must stop here before it become a boring reading. Legends associated with 3 Kings Feast ( 6th Jan. every year) -There was a Velsao Rei too but once the Reddo (He buffalo) on which the king rides (now they ride on a horse back, specially brought from Belgaum) went to drink water in the Pali-Tollem (see pics) .. http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=397562043size=o http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=1089194594size=l ..and the Rei got drowned so no Velsao Rei since then. (Velsao in a village next to Cansaulim which is more closer to the Cuelim Chapel hill where 3 king feast takes place see video) -No one stays at night at the chapel on the feast day. An aerial torch procession appears in the middle of the night and takes with it whoever found at night. (But this was proved to be false when one Parish priest along with a sacristao stayed there overnight, and this was about 15 years ago) -Why Hindus are also seen at the chapel on the feast day? O/L of Remedious (see pic)is one of the 9 Hindu sisters who were converted into Christianity. The other sisters are Milagres Saibinn Mapusa see pics, Mamai Saibinn etc http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk4/139039932/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk4/139039934/ Our Lady Remedious Cuelim http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk8/352906994/ -There is a tunnel at the chapel now doomed, a priest once went with a dog and he never retuned back but the dog did. 3 kings video http://youtube.com/watch?v=8puVKN_1iYY aerial veiw http://wikimapia.org/247126/ Thanks for your time.
