Baina SC struggled in the initial stages of the game as the players were seen losing possession too often and were punished in the seventh minute when Ramesh Heddri on intercepting a pass in the defensive third rounded off the keeper to give Benfica their first of the evening. Hardly had the joys settled down, Benfica scored their second in the 10th minute through Aaron Ferandnes. Benfica were way better than Baina SC, as the players showed unity on the pitch as they attacked in numbers and defended together whenever required thus making it difficult for Baina SC. It was a tale of two halves as the first half saw both the teams were engaged in a evenly contested first 45 minutes wherein both the sides were locked 1-1. It was Saligao Sporting who took the lead in the eighth minute through Ajay Divadkar who scored against the run of play. Milagres took time to settle in the game and restored parity at the half hour mark through Valito Mirada. The second half was totally dominated by Milagres SC as they scored at regular intervals. In the 51st minute they took the lead through Albino Pereira who later completed his brace with his second. Llyod Cardozo also joined Albino, netting a brace and Joalan Fernandes scored the sixth for the winning team. South: In another match at Ambelim ground, Cannut Fernandes scored a second half equaliser for St Sebastaio Sports Club to cancel out Alvito Moura’s first half goal netted for Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club. The match ended 1-1 draw as both teams had to share the spoils. Meanwhile at Dramapur ground, Sports & Welfare Club Zaino came from behind to hold Carmel Sports Club 3-3 in the salcete zone. Jade Colaco had give SWC Zaino a sixth minute lead but Paxton Gomes made it all square for Carmel SC in the 27th minute. Abhay Shetty then gave Carmel SC the lead just before the breather. Changing ends, Carmel SC further inflated the lead at the hour mark through Agnelo Colaco. But two goals cushions were never safe when SWC Zaino had showed great attacking prowess in the game. GOA PRO LEAGUE Panjim Footballers beat Corps of Signals Panjim Footballers registered a narrow 1-0 win over Corps of Signals in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday. Daryl Costa scored the lone goal of the match in the 85th minute after Corps of Signals’ Om Prakash received marching orders with a straight red after he hit an opposition player. Panjim now have eight points while Corps have 10 points as both teams played ten matches so far. The capital city side looked promising from the first whistle as they constantly raided the rival citadel with Cyril Dias and Clifton Fernandes –both coming close to scoring but they just failed to find the mark. Daryl also saw his effort being saved by the keeper as Panjim dominated the first session and didn’t give much chance for the opponents. The teams were tied goalless at the break. With both teams needing a win, the second half was sure to witness more of actions and the match saw an ugly scene as Corps were reduced to 10 man following Om Prakash’s unruly behaviour on the field. GFA THIRD DIV LEAGUE Sohan shines for Merces Club Merces Club proved their dominance with a 4-2 win against Kevnem Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Third Division League match played at Taleigao ground, on Wednesday. In an evenly contested first session, it was Merces Club, which took the lead in the 4th minute through Sohan Phadte. The striker used his pace and accuracy to get the first goal for his side when he beat the rival defender with a quick run before placing the ball past the onrushing keeper. Kevnem SC were at their back and soon levelled terms in the 19th minute when Bhanudas Gawas scored with a curling shot from the box. Merces SC kept on attacking and soon were up once again thanks to Sohan, who once close range effort had no answer from the rival keeper. But Kevnem side were stubborn to let Merces walk the first half with a goal advantage as they kept the rivals on their toes. The much needed equalising goal came at the half hour mark and Tajnath Khandolkar restored parity of Kevnem. GFA U-14 LEAGUE Salgaocar FC humble A A de Majora; Portais Sporting hold Fr Agnel YC Salgaocar Football Club showed no mercy towards A A de Majorda as they humbled them 7-0 in the Goa Football Association U-14 League match played at Cansaulim ground, on Tuesday. Salgaocar FC’s Hayden Fernandes scored the first goal in the fifth minute with a 30-yard strike after winning the ball in the rival half. The winners dominated the play and maintained maximum possession. Salgaocar FC doubled the account in the 12th minute through Joean Simoes after he was fed by Yash Pawar. At the half hour mark, the provider turned goal scorer as Yash guided in a Flann Crasto cross from the right flank to give his team a well-deserved three-goal cushion at the break. GFA THIRD DIV LEAGUE Aivao United trounce Agassaim YC Aivao United Football Club reigned supreme over Agassaim Youth Club in the Goa Football Association Third Division League match played at Taleigao ground, on Sunday. Shubham Shirwakar not only scored a hat-trick but his performance spoke volumes on the field as the striker displayed his abilities and brilliance –both –on and off the ball. GFA SECOND DIV LEAGUE Saligao Sporting, Sinquerim SC, Carmel SC soar high A strong second half performance helped Sinquerim Sports Club come from behind and score a 3-1 win over Cunchelim Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Second Division League match played at Sirsaim ground, on Sunday. Ganesh Poojar gave Cunchelim a dream start giving them the lead in the 20th minute. Once up by a goal, Cunchelim withdrew and played more in the defensive third thus holding Sinquerim SC and walking with a goal cushion at the break. Crossing over, Sinquerim SC came with renewed ideas and attacked in numbers. They were successful in breaking the deadlock at the hour mark through Harshad Gaonkar. GOA PRO LEAGUE Churchill Bros, Dempo SC win Churchill Brothers SC made light work of Salgaocar Football Club with a 6-1 win in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday. Clencio Pinto and Uttam Rai scored a brace each while Nickson Castanha and Gilbert Olivera scored a goal each for the winning side. Salgaocar FC netted through Devendra Murgaonkar. The Red Machines controlled the game from the first whistle but only could break the young Salgaocar defence at the hour mark through Nickson Castanha who smashed in yet another free kick for his side. Salgaocar dominated the play in the first 15 minutes. That was the only goal in the first half. Crossing over, Salgaocar continued from where they had left from and pressed the Green Brigade in their own half. In the 54th minute the Red Machines scored their second when Clencio capitalised in Uttam's deflected shot which came into his way as he showed pure class with only the keeper at his mercy. It was Vagator Parish who took the lead in the 37th minute through Shubham Gaonkar but their joys were short-lived at Assonora leveled terms just before the breather through Prajot Arabekar. The teams were tied 1-1 at the break. After resumption, Assonora United took the lead at the hour mark through Vishnu Parwar but Vagator were right at their back and knocked at the rival citadel with constant attacks. Ronit thrice came from behind to steal a point from their opponent. The initial stages of the game saw neither side go for glory as they played more of a midfield duel. However, Kevnem took the lead in the 24th minute through Tejnath Kandolkar, whose strike gave them a narrow 1-0 first half lead. Crossing over, Kevnem doubled the account in the 56th minute through Neetesh Kandolkar. GFA U-14 LEAGUE Easy wins for CAC Cansaulim, Rossman Cruz CAC Cansaulim eased past Betalbatim SC 3-0 in the Goa Football Association U-14 League match played at Cansaulim ground, on Thursday. CAC produced five minutes magic wherein they netted three goals at the half hour mark. Shane Barreto opened the scoring before Judah Sanches doubled the account in the 33rd minute and Om Honawarkar netted the third in the very next minute as the winners led 3-0 at the break. The strong Aivao side attacked from the word go and didn’t give any opportunity for their opponents to get into the game. The deserving goal came in the fourth minute as Omkar opened the scoring marking their dominance in the early stages of the game. Both the teams begin the first half with a slow approach as they tried to maintain possession on the field. While Pilerne SC played short passes, Sinquerim used their width for the attacks. GFA U-14 LEAGUE Goan FC win GFA U-14 Bardez zone Goan Football Club emerged winner of the Goa Football Association U-14 League registering a fluent 4-1 win over Dunes Sports Club at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday. In an evenly contested first session, Goan FC had to work hard in finding the breakthrough which they managed to get in the 13th minute through Rohan Mangaoknkar. But Dunes Sports Club weren’t the side to give up as they kept on pressing to get the leveller and successfully equalised in the 22nd minute through Aryan Vast. The teams were engaged in more of a midfield battle in the remaining half of the play. GOA PRO LEAGUE Churchill Brothers SC hold Vasco SC PANJIM: Churchill Brothers held Vasco Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday. Beneston Barretto gave Vasco Sports Club the lead in the 48th minute but Gilbert Oliveira converted from the spot for the Red Machines to make it all square in the 54th minute. Vasco’s Penn Orji was sent off late in the game. The two foreign acquisitions Henry Ezeh and Penn Orji changed the whole mood in the Vasco SC camp as they put up an impressive performance in the first half they caught the Red Machines by surprise. Port Towners maintained better ball possession and enjoyed better passing as compared to Churchill Brothers SC. Despite both teams failing to get on the score sheet in the first half, Vasco SC had numerous chances to open their account as Henry Ezeh missed a glorious chance when he was straight at goal only with the rival keeper, but the strikers shot was brilliantly blocked by the Red Machines keeper Sanju Thapa but yet the ball was rolling into the goal, but an alert Suraj cleared the ball off the line for Red Machines. In the second half, Churchill Brothers were the better side as the team came with renewed ideas and matched their opponents. However, they were dealt with an early blow when Beneston Barretto tapped in cross to give Vasco SC a much deserved lead. But the lead only sustained for few minutes as Churchill Brothers responded quickly with the leveller. Clencio Pinto on receiving the ball dribbled past one Vasco SC defender and upon entering the goal area took the shot at goal which brushed the defenders arm and referee made no hesitation to point towards the spot. The Compassion FC should have been many more goals up but lacked the finishing skills. In what looked like one sided affair, Sinquerim started the match on attacking note in the early minutes of the game but however, soon fell behind against Vagator team which played short passes and attacking game.
