[Goanet] SPECIAL STATUS TO GOA?
DEAR READERS IN GOANET. ALL OF US KNOW THAT ALINA WAS A NOVICE IN POLITICS WHEN SHE WAS INDUCTED IN BJP GOVERNMENT. IT WAS A SYMPATHY SHOWN BY PARRIKAR AFTER THE DEATH OF HER HUSBAND MATANHY SALDANHA. NOW IS THAT PARSEKAR IS TRYING TO FOOL THE GOANS BY TELLING THAT STATUS MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE? ALINA IS DEFYING HIM AS SHE HAS SUPPORT FROM PARRIKAR AND THAT SHE IS HUNDRED PER CENT SURE THAT SHE WILL NOT BE SHUFFLED OUT OF THE PARSEKAR CABINET AS LONG AS PARRIKAR IS IN HER SIDE. KUDOS TO ALINA FOR KEEPING HER HUSBAND PROMISE. GOANS ARE WITH ALINA FOR THE STATUS OF GOA. stephen dias = Can Alina force the CM to take the Special Status fight to the PM? published by Target Goa 04, Jan 2015 After the Chief Minister's blithe announcement that Special Status would not be possible for Goa and that he would look into laws that could save our land and culture, Alina Saldanha addressed the media along with committee members of the group founded by her late husband Matanhy - Goa’s Movement for Special Status (GMFSS). She said that she would pursue the matter with the new CM and would also hold meetings with the legal committee of the GMFSS between January 6 and 16. Then she said, she would speak to the Defence Minister and ask him to arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister. Our sympathies go out to Alina Saldanha. She had taken up the issue of Special Status for Goa from the get-go, when she was assimilated into the state cabinet. She, like so many others, had unwavering faith in Manohar Parrikar getting the Centre to grant Special Status to Goa. It should have been easy, because Goa is not asking for a monetary special status where the Centre shells out extra funds to the State. The special status Alina and most of us are talking about, is some drastic curtailment of uncontrolled land purchases by land sharks. Also a limit on the influx of migrants both rich and poor, that is altering the demography and *g* *oemkarponn*of this State. Certain activities must be controlled or stopped to stop the influx of migrants. Will she and those demanding special status be able to stop the construction boom in the State? That's a tall ask, given how, the same business houses that control the mining and industry and hospitality segments, also make up the Builders Lobby. Will they give up an opportunity to further swell their profits? Just as mining gave rise to huge employment, so too does construction. They sell luxury real estate to the wealthy migrants which are built by poor migrants. As Alina says, Goa has outlived her carrying capacity and has reached saturation point. “I am an Indian, but then I am entitled to decent human living conditions, and this can be done by achieving special status for Goa in the face of the increasing influx in the state,” she said. GMFSS members said the CM is talking out of ignorance of legal matters. A special status resolution was passed in the State Assembly on April 15, 2013. The members sought to scotch calls for Alina's resignation from the State Cabinet, by saying that the movement could go forward only if she could pursue special status as a member of the State Cabinet. Target Goa is afraid that if Alina steps on Parsekar's corns, she might find herself shuffled out of the cabinet. *ALINA SALDANHA fighting the good fight for special status* - See more at: http://www.targetgoa.com/goabuzzdet.php?bzid=6595&&id=3#sthash.tjLnyb5n.dpuf
[Goanet] Special Status to Goa
Now that the Government is changed, I request the New Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar, Mr. Mathany Saldanha and the ruling MLA's to please pursue the long standing demand of Special Status to Goa, for Preserving its Land, Environment, Culture and Prized Identity. The earlier Government kept on fooling us, and I do hope the New Government now goes into action, for the same. Arwin Mesquita, UAE. [Goanet] Special status to Goa
While special status to Goa will solve some of the problems, dont think it is a panacea to all evils. The law has to be carefully crafted otherwise it will be easily subverted in the following ways. 1) A goan can own land on paper and still lease it / rent it to outside parties. 2) A Goan can start polluting business, five star hotels, or mega projects. The key is --- the laws for land use have to be strictly enforced. RP 2021 has to be enforced so that irrespective of who the owner is, land is not used for concrete jungles. Neverthless, special status would be useful and could make things a bit more difficult than what they are, for the looters. regards, Samir
