What you said about Panaji is true, the situation in Margao is worst and Mapca
is second to it, In Margao in particular now adays its difficult even to get a
parking for your motorbike, and if its a car you have to park it atleast one Km
away and walk the distance to the market, on the other hand thieves peacefully
get your Car Stereo and any valuables inside the car because these are not paid
parkings, even Motorbikes are vadalized, Margao and Mapuca must have paid
parkings with security to keep watch over parked vehicles.
Goa Govt. must take necessary action to solve this problem ASAP.

Selma,

Planning laws in Panjim now make it compulsory for all new commercial
structures to have underground parking. There are also plans to build
multi-storeyed pay parking structures in atleast three palces in the
heart of Panjim(Market, Municipal Garden and CCP headquarters). The
parking facility at the market should be ready and functional any day
now.

If you visit Panjim you will be pleasantly surprised to find an army of
fluorescent-jersey clad traffic wardens (all women!), ruthlessly
clamping the wheels of all illegally parked cars. People have now
resorted to staying in their cars while illegally stationed to avoid
fines.

This is not to say that it has become easier to find parking in Panjim
nowadays. With approximately a thousand new vehicles being bought every
month, these measures are barely sufficient, and I don't know if
similar steps are being taken in other urban centres.

Dear Dr Pinto,
It is my prime objective on Goanet to be ridiculously
nice to anyone with the title of Doctor. This I do
because at any time I could be in need of medical
assistance which I hope to get for free from all the
Goan doctors scattered across the globe. If they
happen to be Phd type doctors, they should mention it
so that I can instantly stop being nice to them.

So in light of the above, I agree entirely with what
you say. On a more serious note, I do agree with what
you say, infact that was going to be my other
suggestion except for the fact that the Goan male
species is a very lazy specimen. He desperately needs
his Scooty, Bajaj or Honda suzuki (depending on how
old and virile he is), to help him carry his sardine,
bangra or showto (depending on how old and rich he is)
from the bazar.

Dear all,
Todays Navhind carries the CCP's solution to the parking problem in Panaji.
The mayor Tony Rodrigues announced the green signal for three underground
parking lots in the city one along AB road, another along MG road and the
third one on 18th June Road. Which buildings would be razed/ parks would be
dug up have not been notified. One can be sure however whatever is done will
elicit storms of protest :-)). Selma's common sense suggestions of demolish
and build would affront the heritage activists and are more suited to
American towns. A more practical approach for Panaji would be the European
model -to create pay and park facilities outside Panaji and have electric
shuttles busing in people into pedestrianised areas in the conserved areas
of the city.Difficult? I presumed organising the first IFFI would have been
tougher.
On a brighter note the underground parking for the Panjim Market has been
commisioned from Sept 1 and the Reserve battalion of the Goa Police are
being deployed on all the main streets of the city to prevent double
parking, halting etc
