[google-appengine] Re: GAE Instance Startup Similarities

2013-02-15 Thread gafal
This morning 9.00 am brussels time it happens again!!

Instances are started but are not healthy. They cannot process any request
and they cannot be shut down!!!
Beside them are 2 healthy instances which are fro any obscure reason not
receiving any request.

I don't know what you are trying to achieve but we would be pleased to know
it.
Until you get them: Could you implement temporary work around: to serve
request only with healthy (instances that do respond to request) and warmed
up instances)?
PLEASE

The best part on this is still that in order to attempt to make the system
more responsive, we use F2 or F4.
Because of that, we pay more money to Google for a bad service!

That's one of the biggest faults of GAE.
Whenever there is a problem on the platform, the customer has to pay even
more.
The last days the instance scheduler had the problem and was restarting
instances like crazy.
Usually we don't have to pay extra "Frontend Instance hours" for our
application because of low traffic.
But in these days we do not only have downtimes but had to pay a lot of
"Frontend Instance hours"

That sucks!

I had originally set up an application as whatever-site.appspot.com
I have now changed this to whatever.appspot.com

most of the search engines have indexed whatever-site.appspot.com

Is there a way in the dashboard to point whatever-site.appspot.com to
whatever.appspot.com?

Thanks,

Same here.

Why is there no "system status" dashboard for admin infrastructure?
The dashboard seems to ignore things like deployment errors, problems
loading task queue pages in the admin console, etc. that seem to plague a
lot of us regularly. I know there's an issue for it someplace, just too
lazy to look it up right now ...

Another round of issues. Super high latency with HTTP 500s all over. Last 3

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Extremely high number of instances

2013-02-15 Thread Mos
Just for the record. It seems exactly the same issue that Google had
last August: http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8004

The conclusion after weeks(!) of discussion (from #8004):

Me

Thanks, but can you please be a bit more specific?
What does "The reliability team performed a maintenance operation, and
it seems that most application are back to a normal levels of loading
requests." mean?
- Could this happen from time to time again?
- The issue last for weeks! It costs us and other people a lot of
money. Why do we need to escalate such a critical issue with a 50+
mailing-thread and why isn't GAE able to monitor such bad behavior by
itself?

Google:
---
App Engine is a managed service, the reliability team is constantly
monitoring the overall platform health and performing maintenance
operation.

In this case this was apparently only impacting a small number of Java
applications and not the whole platform:
http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8004
- 20 developers starred this bug
- 5 developers provided an appid

Filing a production issue or contacting premier customer support are
the good ways to escalate such application specific issues.

Me:
-
> In this case this was apparently only impacting a small number of Java
> applications and not the whole platform:
> - 20 developers starred this bug

Please check the average starring of Java issues lately. 20 stars
seems to be significant and let extrapolate that a lot more
application may be affected.

Nevertheless I'm pleased this issue is resolved (at least for the
moment). I hope the reliability team would be able to monitor and fix
such issue much faster in the future (instead of let GAE applications
feel broken for weeks)

[google-appengine] Error Transaction Options - Python

2013-02-15 Thread Thiago Catoto
Hi guys,

We have a cronjob that runs just fine for about an year, since yesterday,
we got the following error message:

Failed to run tx_sync_payments() within transaction, error: *cross-group
transaction need to be explicitly specified, see TransactionOptions.Builder.
**withXG*

The code is like this:
===

def tx_sync_payments(self, payment_order_instance, eligible_payment_keys):
...
db.put(...)
...
db.delete(...)
...
===
In other function
===
.
.
.
try:
db.run_in_transaction(
self.tx_sync_payments,
payment_order_instance,
profile_epayments
)
except Exception, e:
return self.error('Failed to run tx_sync_payments() within transaction,
error: %s' % e)

===

please, can some one Help me?

I have tried to put the @db.transactional(xg=True) on the tx_sync_payments
and call it without the db.run_in_transaction, but same error.

Thanks.

[google-appengine] Email Bounce Callback - Looks broken

2013-02-15 Thread Amine Azariz
Hi,

I'm trying to use the new Bounce callback on e-mail (/_ah_bounce). I
activated the service in app.yaml and I've sent some e-mails to fake
addresses and to AWS SES simulated e-mails
(http://docs.aws.amazon.com/ses/latest/DeveloperGuide/mailbox-simulator.html)
but I have nothing in my callbacks for 24h..

Is there something that I've missed ?

Thanks

[google-appengine] G+ Hangout, Wed. Feb 20th, 4pm PST: more on Cloud Endpoints

2013-02-15 Thread Amy Unruh
hi all,

We're having a G+ hangout on Wed. Feb. 20th, at 4pm US/Pacific, with more
on Google Cloud Endpoints.

Following up the Feb. 13th GDL hangout (
https://developers.google.com/live/shows/76184973/), in this hangout we'll
showcase the Cloud Endpoints Proto Datastore library (
http://endpoints-proto-datastore.appspot.com/), which allows ProtoRPC
message classes to be directly tied to the models used to persist objects.
In addition, rather than interacting with ProtoRPC messages in our API
methods, we'll show how to directly interact with the entities that live in
the datastore.

Submit your questions here: http://goo.gl/FLw0j .

When the hangout starts, or if you missed it live, you can watch it here:
https://developers.google.com/live/shows/150149336/ .
If you're a Google+ user, you can RSVP to the event here:
 http://goo.gl/HEul8 to get a reminder.

You can also subscribe to calendar events for these hangouts here:
http://goo.gl/GGkgx , http://goo.gl/PILq0 .

We hope you can join us!

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Extremely high number of instances

We see the same thing.
Our app is flailing around spawning and killing instances like a meteor
flying over Russia.
Ok, maybe not exactly like a meteor. But it is spawning a lot of instances
and destroying our QoS again.

With the kind of issues AppEngine has - high prices, random bad
performance, limited features (no sockets, etc), no support, java instance
startup times, routing new requests to instances that haven't started yet,
incredibly small VMs - I think the humour is probably on Google's side
also. AppEngine must be a big joke to someone there!

You have a typo, either in your message or in your app.yaml.

Bounce notification happens on /_ah/bounce, not /_ah_bounce.

2013-02-15 Thread alex
Ryan,

I hope you actually meant your message to be a big joke. From the
point I'm standing at, there's no other platform that can beat App
Engine today in terms of completeness, easiness of development and
deployment, autoscailing feature, extra services/APIs and stuff like
Cloud Endpoints.

If you want a VM or a comparison to EC2, you should really do it with
GCE, not App Engine.

Hi Alex,

It was mostly in jest - AppEngine really is a great service. Just imagine
how much better it would be (especially for AppEngine-Java) if the sharp

[google-appengine] Our Google Cloud Storage account is stuck

2013-02-15 Thread Nickolas Daskalou
Hi,

We are unable to create any new objects in any buckets attached to our
Google Cloud Storage account.

One such bucket is: actor-images.celebritizer.com

We have tried sending feedback via the Google APIs Console and tried
submitting a ticket which has gone silent one week ago:

https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8775

Could someone from Google please look into this? We believe it is a
billing issue but are not certain. Somehow our account is "stuck" due
to trying to charge an expired credit card, we have updated the CC
info and it still does not fix anything.

Thanks,

Nick
