Re: [google-appengine] Can't integrate GCS to existing AppEngine project

2013-08-30 Thread Denis Sigov
Vinny,

Ultimately, as you adviced, I went to APIs console, selected my project
(created by integrating GAE app), and switched to ON Cloud Storage (it was
OFF). Now Cloud Storage buckets are creating fine.

Answers for your questions:

 When you tried another project, was that a project created by the New
 Project button on the Google Cloud Console, or by integrating an App
 Engine application into the console?

By New Project button from Cloud Console. Now, I've tried to enable
billing for that project and everything works fine.

Can you try this: Go to the cloud console and create a new project. Set up
 billing on that project. Then go to Cloud Storage and try to set up a
 bucket.

Done. New project with billing enabled works fine.

Thanks a lot for your help!

 the App. Remove the HashKey entry from your Admin panel deployment.
 The second was a simple one, make sure the app in question is not being
 deployed at the OU level independant of the domain. e.g Removed at Domain

 still deployed at the OU.

[google-appengine] zopfli compression?

2013-08-30 Thread stephanos
Hi there,

I recently read about Google's Zopfli https://code.google.com/p/zopfli/ (~5%
better compression of asset files). I was wondering how I can combine this
with App Engine.

I suppose Zopfli is not currently used for compression of App Engine static
files, is it?
Is it possible to compress files with Zopfli and let App Engine serve the
.gz files directly?

Regards

Re: [google-appengine] Can't integrate GCS to existing AppEngine project

2013-08-30 Thread David Hardwick
We had a small stumble with Google Cloud Storage too, recently, but not
calling from App Engine but from Compute. We tried to make a call to it
but it returned that we were over quota on our first call. We could upload
files from the web interface, so we were confused. Turns out that the JSON
version of the API we were using is v1/experimental, and they start you off
at 0 quota!

Something to keep in mind if you are using the Cloud Storage from outside
of app engine and you turn on that Google Cloud Storage service in the
console and then you turn on that Google Cloud Storage JSON API service
right below it.

Rock on,
  Hardwick

We put in a request for quota and will wait a week (requesting more quota
can take up to a week to be reviewed/approved...and make sure you give
formulaic reasons behind the numbers you request). If we don't get
approved, we'll do the XML approach.

[google-appengine] operating on too many entity groups in a single transaction.

2013-08-30 Thread nermin . brgulja
Hello Group,

I have googled for this error and as far as I can see, the Appengine
Datastore does not support more than 5 Groups in a transaction (at least in
a XG Transaction).
OK ... but how do I get the the following issue done:

*1. I am using OpenSeccionInView Pattern. See my code below:*

@Override
public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response,
FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException {

//1. Create new EntityManager for this call
EntityManager em = factory.createEntityManager();
ThreadLocalEntityManager.set(em);//==(1) Create EM

em.getTransaction().begin();//==(2) Begin Transaction
try {
chain.doFilter(request, response);
em.getTransaction().commit();//==(3) Commit Transaction

} catch (ConstraintViolationException cve) {
//This exception is thrown on Constraint Violation JSR303
if(em.getTransaction().isActive()) {
//This is usually never called
em.getTransaction().rollback();
}
} catch (Exception e) {
if(em.getTransaction().isActive()) {
em.getTransaction().rollback();
}
e.printStackTrace();
} finally {
if(em.isOpen()) {
em.close();//==(4) Close EM
}
}
}

*2. I have Entities called JobCategory that stays in OneToMany relation
with itself and OneToMany Relation with Job Entity
(JPA is used with DataNucleus)
*@Entity
public class JobCategory {

@OneToMany(mappedBy = mainCategory, cascade = CascadeType.ALL)
@OrderBy(i18nKey ASC)
private ListJobCategory subCategories = new ArrayListJobCategory();

@ManyToOne
private JobCategory mainCategory;

@OneToMany(mappedBy = jobCategory)
@OrderBy(creationDate DESC)
private ListJob jobs = new ArrayListJob();
...

/**
 * Method will return All JobCategories that are available in the
database
 */
public static ListJobCategory findAllJobCategories() {
EntityManager em = ThreadLocalEntityManager.get();
Query query = em.createQuery(SELECT e FROM  +
JobCategory.class.getSimpleName() +  e  ORDER BY e.i18nKey);
return (ListJobCategory) query.getResultList();
}
...
}

*My Question:*
I woudl like to load all JobCategories (there are more than 10 main
JobCategories with 5-6 Subcategories each), but as mentioned the DB does
not support more than 5 Groups per transaction.
The OSIV-Pattern, as shown in my code above and explained here:
https://community.jboss.org/wiki/OpenSessionInView?_sscc=t ... opens one
transaction for every DB-call which lets me get max 5 Grouped-Entities!?

How do I get *all JobCategories* loaded properly!?
I assume that there is something wrong with my OSIV-Pattern since it allows
only one transaction per call. But this is exactly what the JBOSS example
did!?

Thank you in advance for your help!!

[google-appengine] javax.validation 1.1 and GAE/J

2013-08-30 Thread Raphael André Bauer
Hi,

I recently tried to use hibernate-validation 5.0.1.Final on the
AppEngine, but ran in some severe security issues. To be precise - the
security issues came because of the el-api provided by
org.glassfish.web javax.el version 2.2.4. wants to access some internals
blacklisted by GAE.

The old version of hibernate-validation 4.3.1.Final works. But it
only implements javax.validation 1.0 while 5.0.1.Final implements
javax.validation 1.1.

Okay. Simple question at the end - did anyone get hibernate-validation
5.0.1.Final to run on the AppEngine successfully? Any hints would be
well appreciated.

Thanks!

[google-appengine] Guice 3 on the appengine - possible performance hint

2013-08-30 Thread Raphael André Bauer
Hi,

we recently debugged a performance issue with Guice 3 running on the
App Engine. I don't want to go into the details, but it turned out
that our app on GAE is faster (both initial startup + warmup requests)
when Guice is ran in Stage.PRODUCTION than in Stage.DEVELOPMENT (the
default stage when you do not set a stage explicitly).

We actually expected that Stage.DEVELOPMENT would be faster because
a lot of binding is then done on-demand. But this was wrong - at least
for our applications.

So - if you are using Guice you can try to start your injector in
Stage.PRODUCTION.

Please also share any insights you may have on this.

Thanks,

Raphael

Re: [google-appengine] Testing Modules with development server: modules and dispatcher not started

2013-08-30 Thread Rafael
In the java appengine version they haven't implemented the dispatch.xml
configuration to work on dev servers. That means myself having to test a
rather complex app directly production and adding hundreds of bugs per
second.

I have been informed that the maximum we can do at this point is to star
this issue:

For java i've hacked a simple proof of concept that emulates that feature,
but it's not even close to how we should be developing. It's annoying to
debug on java now.

Great, I see you removed all the blank lines. It looks much neater now!

Also, did the error message change? Does it cite a different line number
where it encountered the error? If not, try this: remove all the handler
statements except for the root handler (url: /), and try re-uploading the
application. If it succeeds, then add in another handler statement, then
re-upload. Rinse and repeat until you hit the handler that's causing the
error.
