Hi Waleed,

I won't be able to get the room for 3/31, but I can secure it for 4/6.
Will this work? Please let me know.

2010-03-12 Thread Waleed Abdulla
Thanks Albert. I thought that might be what you were referring to. It's a
different case, though. I do need to serve the app from the naked domain (
exmaple.com) without redirecting it to www.example.com. As far as I can
tell, it's not possible now. So I'm doing a dirty hack of serving the page
from a dedicated server which pulls it's data from the app engine. I really
want to not have to do that, though. I hope that feature gets added soon.

[google-appengine] Re: DNS providers that support wildcard CNAME's?

2010-03-11 Thread Albert
Hi Waleed!

I don't think I did anything special really. I decided to take a look
into my configurations, and I realized that I really didn't do
anything at all. I set that app about a year ago, and I haven't
touched it since, so I had to look into my configurations again. And
after some testing, I think my Domain Name Provider (name.com)
automatically redirects traffic from "example.com" to
"www.example.com". So I think that's the reason why it works. I don't
have anything configured for my base domain name. This effect may not
be the same across different Domain Name providers.

By the way, I don't have any of my domain names pointing to any IP
Address.

I have no problem since it's fine with me if the same app is served
through "www" and base domain.

If I'm not mistaken, you probably want to serve one app on the "www"
and another on the base domain. In that case, I don't know yet how to
make that work.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy!

Albert,
How did you get that working?

When I try to map domains to my app through the Google Apps admin
section, it allows me to add as many subdomains as I want, but it won't let
me add an empty sub domain. Also, what IP address did you set your base
domain (example.com) to point to in your DNS settings at your domain name
provider?

I've used DNSMadeEasy as well in the past and it worked well for me. Their
site doesn't give you that feeling of confidence, but I never had any issues
with them.

Related question: Anyone know if the new wildcard domain mappings allow me
to use naked domains? As in, serve my app from example.com rather than
www.example.com ? Has anyone tried that?

Hi Ross,

I've been happy with DNSMadeEasy for a couple years now. Lots of
control and options, and very fast updates. I've already tested the
wild card mappings and they work great, although I'm not using them
for any kind of production purpose yet. I've never had any
availability issues either, although I don't run any large scale sites
through them yet.

I'm including both affiliate and non-affiliate links here because I
know some people just HATE affiliate programs for some reason. It
certainly won't bother me if you prefer not to use the affiliate link.

Affiliate Link: http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/u/39701
Non-affiliate Link: http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/

Regards,
Noah
