 have the GWT patch merged with the Emma trunk, but they responded with
*won't fix*. I looked at the Google patch, but it does not seem relevant to

Re: preview in case of iframe

thanks, I figured as much. The two documents are independent DOM structures
and while the preview is "global", it is only global within one DOM
structure.

I got what I want w/o preview, using *addDomHandler.

**as long as you have the handle to components in both frames, this works
quite fine.*

Our problems disappeared when we expanded the permgen allocation with

Re: preview in case of iframe

2012-07-02 Thread gpike
  The document inside you iFrame is a completely separate document and can
be from a different domain as well so won't get any events just like you
don't get events from other browser tabs. However you could communicate
across the boundary by defining your own api's. What I mean is you can add
Javascript methods to the containing document and call them from the child
using top..

  What I've done in the past is create 2 entry points (and
modules), essentially two GWT apps, one for the parent window and the
other for the child window. Using JSNI expose a well know method name on
the parent that can be called. It can be a pain but we had an app that
could be hosted in another app using a iFrame and could have hot key
support for both passing key events to the parent. By the way this only
works when both apps are from the same domain.

Good Luck,

Gordon Pike

Help debug GWT Designer in eclipse

2012-07-02 Thread Carlos Silva
Hi,

I'm using Gentoo and I have eclipse version 4.2 along with swt 4.2 and
libwebkit-gtk installed. Everything looks good with respect to system
libraries and whatnot. Still, eclipse refuses to load up the designer
saying that it needs xulrunner version bla bla bla. On version 3.7 I had an
option to enable WebKit as renderer but now I don't.

I'm looking for help to diagnose the problem and try to understand if it's
a system configuration (or libraries installed) problem or some kind of
bug/"feature" of GWT Designer for Eclipse 4.2.

Thanks in advance,
Carlos Silva

Not yet, but you can compile once without closure compiler to see whats
going on during compile and then compile it again with closure compiler and
check the generated files to see size differences:

- war/.html
- war//deferredjs//.cache.js (one of these files is the left over
fragment..it should be the one with the highest number that does not match
any split point number)

Also when you use -XfragmentMerge for the new code split algorithm it seems
like the compile report shows 0 bytes for left over fragment which is
clearly wrong (at least in our case here). So don't jump up and be happy if
you see 0 bytes for left over ;-)

Using gwt to change java files

2012-07-02 Thread mehdi benchoufi
I am really new to gwt but I have already posted a question and I
don't really understand.

I am working on a project that had already been developed. This
project uses get and the javascript comes from java files. I wanted to
make some changes on one of these java files. SO I was told I needed
to download get. This is what I did.

But my php and html files are processed with MAMP.

So now, how do I change the java files ? Where do I put my php and
html files to run it on my local server MAMP ? Am I supposed to take
the only java files, opening a "WebApp" (as indicated in the get doc),
runn it (with an ant build command ?), retrieving some files and put
those in my MAMP workspace ?

(I have read the gwt, but I didn't really understand it. I apologize
by advance if my question seems too simple)

Thanks, Mehdi

Storing/retrieving shared objects in a database

2012-07-02 Thread Peter
Hi guys,

Basically, as the title says, I would like to store a shared object in a
MySQL database and retrieve it at a later time. So I wrote a simple shared
class Test:

public class Test implements Serializable {
private int statusId;
public Test() {
}
public Test(int statusId) {
this.statusId = statusId;
}
}

Now I have an rpc that stores an instance of the Test class into a
single-column table (the MySQL type is BLOB). This is the rpc
implementation:

public void storeTest(Test test) {
try {
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection(MySQLConnection.DB_URL,
MySQLConnection.DB_USER, MySQLConnection.DB_PWD);
PreparedStatement statement = conn.prepareStatement("insert
into test_table (test_object) values (?)");
statement.setObject(1, test);
statement.executeUpdate();
} catch (SQLException e) {
} catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
}
}

For retrieval, I have another rpc as follows (server side code again):

public Test getTest() {
Test t = new Test();
try {
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection(MySQLConnection.DB_URL,
MySQLConnection.DB_USER, MySQLConnection.DB_PWD);
PreparedStatement statement = conn.prepareStatement("select
test_object from test_table");
ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery();
resultSet.next();
t = (Test) resultSet.getObject(1);
} catch (SQLException e) {
} catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
}
return t;
}

The storeTest(Test test) method runs fine (at least I think it does) - no
errors are returned and the record is inserted into the MySQL table.
However, the method getTest() fails during the conversion *t = (Test)
resultSet.getObject(1)*. Now I've done some digging and apparently the
object returned by resultSet.getObject(1) is an instance of a class called *
[B*, which seems to be a JNI byte array which can't be converted into Test.

It is unclear to me why this happens. I would expect that the BLOB column
contains all the necessary info to rebuild the Test object. I'm pretty sure
I'm missing something fundamental here, but can't quite figure it out.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks

GWT 2.5, -compileReport and closure compiler

2012-07-02 Thread Stefano Ciccarelli
I've noticed that if I enable the closure compiler the -compileReport flag
is totaly ignored and the soycReport in the extra folder is missing.

Someone has a workaround?

That's basically what happens yes.

See http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/issues/detail?id=6726#c5
Basically: onbeforeunload (which calls mayStop of the activities) exists so
that you can tell the user there are unsaved changes and he can cancel the
navigation to save them before navigating away again.
With a PlaceChangeRequestEvent you could easily tell an onbeforeunload from
an internal navigation (the target place is 'null'), but that isn't exposed
to activities (mayStop). I suppose you could workaround this using a
PlaceChangeRequestEvent.Handler (or Window.ClosingHandler) and shared state
(considering mayStop methods are called first, they would store a flag in
the shared state, and the PlaceChangeRequestEvent.Handler would setWarning
if the target –place is 'null' –resp. the Window.ClosingHandler would
setMessage– when the shared state indicates unsaved changes; but of course,
you should also handle the case where the mayStop methods are called
*last*); and you'd save data in your activities' onStop(), which are not
called onbeforeunload.

Strategy for saving data project

2012-07-02 Thread Thomas Lefort
Hi,

I was relying on mayStop to save my user's project when they leave the
activity but it seems to work in some cases only, ie when navigating from
one activity to another but not when leaving the application or closing the
browser... I don't know if it is normal? may be there is "not enough time"
to send the last message with all the project's data?

If it is then I need a whole new strategy to make sure data is saved when
the user leaves. I would be interested in knowing of any suggestion to
solve the issue.
I have planned to save on every change made, but it is quite heavy as there
are many frequent updates possible (just moving the map would trigger a
save). An optimisation to this would be a combination of a flag for
tracking changes and a timer to make periodic saves, eg every minute or so,
when the project has changed.
Anyway if anyone has recommendations on how to do this I would be very
happy hearing them.

Thanks,

Thomas

Yes, thanks Jens. In the end I did what you suggested and overrode the
doGetSerializationPolicy
to make sure it pointed to the right path. It does work fine indeed.
