Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Corrupt yaml data is causing consumers of appstream data (such as
gnome-software or fwupd) to get stuck in a spin and consume CPU and
  battery.

  [Test Case]

   * Introduce corrupt data into /var/lib/app-info/yaml/
   * Execute sudo /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/fwupd/fwupd -v
   * Check CPU usage calms down after initialization

  [Regression Potential]

   * This patch has been backported from a newer stable release upstream.
   * Due to the nature of backporting, it doesn't directly apply to Ubuntu and
will need some adjustments made.
   * Regressions would occur in gnome-software not displaying software or fwupd
not running properly.

  [Other Info]

  Original bug report:

fwupd process has been consuming 100% of my CPU for several days now
(IBM Thinkpad x250 running fully updated 16.04).

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1616943] Re: Can't auth against U1 in g-s

2016-08-30 Thread Robert Ancell
Reason for breakage: snapd removed non-root support in:

commit 8f981ca652e9bffe587254c5c55177965eb3fcfd
Author: John R. Lenton
Date: Wed Aug 3 21:35:23 2016 +0100

daemon: stop using group membership as succedaneous of running
things with sudo

This broke gnome-software, which is running as non-root...

The long term solution is to create a new D-Bus service that allows non-
root users to get a Macaroon from snapd and uses Polkit to authorize.
This is being added to snapd-glib.

As a short term solution, we really need to revert this change in
Xenial...

Status in livecd-rootfs source package in Xenial:

Bug description:
I am unable to fully provision a xenial instance using box
  ubuntu/xenial64 (virtualbox, 20160403.0.0)
because the synced folders are never mounted.

VAGRANT_LOG=DEBUG vagrant init --debug indicates that there was an error
mounting the filesystem
  mount: unknown filesystem type 'vboxsf'

  I am using
  VirtualBox 5.0.16 r105871
  vagrant 1.8.1

While init/provision fails, the instance is brought up. I can get into
it and see it runs. It doesn't appear that Virtualbox Guest Additions
is installed. I can see that my installation of VB does have
  VBoxGuestAdditions.iso and is readable.

  X-CPC-Real-Bug: bug 1605795

  Test procedure for proposed fix:

  1. Launch the ubuntu vagrant box (xenial, yakkety)
  2. SSH into the box with `vagrant ssh`
  3. Check if default synced folder is mounted with `mount` or `df`, it should
be
  4. Check name of VM in virtualbox, it should be randomized

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1598183] Re: Operation not permitted while writing to symlinked fuse locations

Title:
Operation not permitted while writing to symlinked fuse locations

Status in gvfs:
  Confirmed
Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in gvfs source package in Xenial:
  New

Bug description:
  Affected releases:
Ubuntu from 14.10+ (14.04 was working fine)

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Setup a gvfs mount (I used smb and sftp shares configured via nautilus).
  2. Create a symlink to the fuse-mounted location e.g.
  cd ~/Desktop; ln -sf
/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=10.0.20.6,share=share1/symlinktest
  3. Navigate with nautilus to the symlinked location, open a file available
there with e.g. gedit or libreofficeand try to save it.

  Expected result:
  File is saved.

  Actual result:
An enigmatic error message is displayed
(Cannot handle "file:" locations in write mode - for gedit, or "General
input/output error while accessing " for libreoffice).

  The problems started with commit
  548ba46c2ba51c4ec5b0dd8442b476f3a2a7000b fuse: Don't g_file_append_to
unless O_APPEND is given. Reverting it makes the issue disappear.

I have rebuild gvfs enabling debugging (#define DEBUG_ENABLED 1) and here is
what I got in ~/vfs.debug:
  # accessing via symlink
  vfs_open: /smb-share:server=10.0.20.6,share=share1/grouptest/symlinktest/test
  open_common: flags=52
  vfs_open: -> Operation not supported
  # accessing via /run/user/(...)
  vfs_open: /smb-share:server=10.0.20.6,share=share1/grouptest/symlinktest/test
  open_common: flags=110
  setup_input_stream: have stream
  setup_input_stream: doing read
  vfs_open: -> Success

For reasons beyond my understanding the flags are different while
accessing the file via the default gvfs-mountpoint causing the
execusion to skip the modified section of client/gvfsdfusedaemon.c
  (returning -ENOTSUP).

I am attaching the full vfs.debug created.

Title:
  [SRU] 2.14

Status in Snappy:
  New
Status in snapd package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in snapd source package in Xenial:
  New

Bug description:
This is a new version of snapd.

The changelog for 2.14 is available here
  https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.14/debian/changelog, the raw
  git changelog is available here:
  https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.14 (note that the debian
changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so
there is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The snappy team released a new 2.14 micro release that we want SRU
into xenial. The new process described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used and we have done
integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on classic and
  unit tests.

The following automatic tests are run:
  - travis unit tests https://travis-ci.org/snapcore/snapd/branches (check for
2.14 here)
  - travis/spread based integration/system tests:
https://travis-ci.org/snapcore/snapd/branches (check for 2.14 here under
"spread")
  - jenkins autopkgtests
http://162.213.35.179:8080/job/snappy-by-tag-autopkgtest/13/
  - jenkins integration tests:
http://162.213.35.179:8080/job/snappy-by-tag-integration-test/16/

The following additional tests were performed:
  """
  - adt-buildvm-ubuntu-cloud
  - customize the resulting image: "sudo apt install snapd && sudo snap install
hello-world && hello-world.env && sudo snap remove hello-world" (ensures the
base image has the old debs and the daemon has some state)
  - adt-run --source snapd_2.14.dsc --- adt-virt-qemu
adt-xenial-amd64-cloud.img: PASS
  """
This included the upgrade from 2.0.13 as part of the autopkgtest run. There
are also various snaps installed/removed (including installing and running
ubuntu-calculator-app in xvfb) and run as part of the auto pkg test, including
reboots to ensure that the system keeps working over reboots.

After installing the new snapd it was ensured that apt is unaffected by doing:
  """
  - sudo apt install -y hello && sudo apt remove -y hello
  """

After installing the new snapd gnome-software was used:
  """
  - install "http" (snap) and remove it again
  """
  All worked as expected.

  Please backport:
  commit 0f5d050ceaa31b2229102211d60c149f920df3aa
  Author: Sebastian Ott
  Date: Tue Jul 12 19:57:57 2016 +0200

s390/cio: allow to reset channel measurement block

Prior to commit 1bc6664bdfb949bc69a08113801e7d6acbf6bc3f a call to
enable_cmf for a device for which channel measurement was already
enabled resulted in a reset of the measurement data.

What looked like bugs at the time (a 2nd allocation was triggered
but failed, reset was called regardless of previous failures, and
errors have not been reported to userspace) was actually something
at least one userspace tool depended on. Restore that behavior in
  a sane way.
