Re: second list fluff

2000-03-22 Thread baglien

Well BOB,

I for one enjoy the fluff; it's the only reason I stay subscribed to this mailing
list. If the only reason that I was interested in this list was for resolving
problems with my bike, I would subscribe only during those times that I needed
help. There are only so many maintenance related topics that we can cover
here, and I tend to believe that they have all be discussed. On the other hand,
we can always have another riding event or discuss enjoyable areas to ride.

I believe that this whole thread was started because a couple of riders were
discussing riding around Loveland pass... while
I live in North Georgia, I still find this of interest because I am planning
a trip there this summer.

Never undersell the content, if it doesn't interest you, delete the message.

Now fluff about fluff has been filling this list, on and off, for the past 6
month. Lets drop it.

Fluff!!! 1985 Yamaha FZ750!!

2000-03-22 Thread Hawkins, Kevin L, SITS

I good friend of mine has a 1985 Yamaha FZ750 that is in MINT condition. If
I want it, it's mine.for a price! Does anyone on this list have any
comments or experiences with this model? From what I understand it was the
first "Genesis" five valve motor produced by Yamaha and it was a thriller.
Comments?

Re: Fluff!!! 1985 Yamaha FZ750!!

2000-03-22 Thread Darren . Kinoshita

I had an '86 model and loved that bike ! I had even considered getting
one again but not now with a project bike in hand. Mine was good
handling and quick the longer wheelbase made it easier to get off the
line than the GSXR 750's and I used to be able to stay ahead of the
Ninja 900's (of that time frame) from light to light as long as I
holeshotted them I never went to an actual dragstrip but it was
definitely one of the funnest bikes I ever owned. They are eligible for
vintage racing now from what I heard but the GSXR 750 was a lighter and
better handling bike on roadcourses and you might not stand much of a
chance against them there. Although Eddie Lawson did win at Daytona on
one so it does have a winning heritage but not much of one. The OW's
came out shortly after and were also promptly smoked by the RC30
Honda's. The FZ750 was a good fun bike which didn't hurt to ride for 2
hours at time and had good performance for a bike not as hardcore as a
GSXR. I'll never forget mine even though there is always newer faster
better. Feel free to email me off list if you like.

Suggestion, Create a second list

I know of what you speak. There have been times when I've been
frustrated by the banter on here, generating the volume of mail.
But it's worse on other lists. The Vmax list broke into two
lists, and that's caused more problems than it's solved. Now
some belong to one list, some bleong to the other, and some
belong to both so we can see everything. Why? People wind up
posting tech info/questions to BOTH lists. To not be on one list
would be to miss some tech stuff. And then there's the extra
duplication of messages: Some prople post the same question to
both lists, so you wind up seeing the message threads twice.

Considering how little traffic we're getting these days, I'm
happy to have one list, stay in digest mode, and scroll through
one message a day.

They are great. I use 'em. The one listed doesn't seek to have the
entire kit though. The kit has tubing and a fluid catch-tank.

They're gone. I just called, it seems someone placed an order for
200 of them. Wiped out their stock. Oh well.

GTS Death Valley ride pics

2000-03-22 Thread Kelly Cash

Hi all- I have 55MB of pictures from the Death Valley trip
last weekend. I need a place to post 'em. Each shot is around
700k - 900k. They're 1600x1200, fine quality. (I'm not yet
adept enough with gimp to change the compression to make the
filesize smaller)

There's also a 6MB .AVI (which can be viewed with Quicktime)
of the motley crew singing "Happy Birthday" to Maxine.
(fortunately for all, it's a movie only, no sound)

Please let me know where to send 'em,

Re: GTS interchange parts list?

2000-03-22 Thread dreuning

If you need a front wheel, rear wheel, front arm parts, or that oil-window cover,
check out the sidecar builders.
These original parts are not found on mine GTS, so they must be somewhere.

They were all good but as I remeber the tarriff '87 ? 700 cc model with

Not too much interchangable with the FZR 1000. Rear caliper, same rear
pads, rear swing arm, counter and rear sprockets, rear rim but w/o abs
pickup. Cylinder block, cases and trans, radiator maybe. Crank is different
as is the head, and cams. Compressions is lower but I don''t know if its
due to the pistons, head and or head gasket. I got a salvage bike for this
purpose but may restore it. Stan

Re: second list fluff

2000-03-22 Thread RSRBOB

Sven,
To each his own. I have not seen you on the list at all in quite awhile. I do
agree we are limited to the breadth of topics GTS related, but when two guys
are arguing the value a trip only one intends to take... such as happened
recently.. to me, it is useless, and inappropriate. I support the list
and resources it represents, and, if you were heading to a locale, certainly,
I personally see nothing wrong with posting a "Hey, I am heading to Timbuktu,
anyone know any good roads?" type post. Again, we all have our opinions. It
seems the general content of the list has deteriorated so badly, I question
its value to me at all.
It is good to see you are still around.
Take care,
RSRBOB

Just a little note of caution. Don't let the gas filler cover fly
open too often, it will eventually break the hinge pin on the
left side. Found out the hard way.

If anyone is interested in a set of RKA soft bags, color matched
red, used one year and in excellent shape - $75 let me know
off list.

PS - I don't mind fluff either.
