Kevin: It was my '93 at Pub 44. Did you know that a guy had a heart attack and died at Pub 44 at @ 8:30 PM the night that both of us were there. Sorry I missed you but I too experienced cell anemia. I also was a very busy guy for being on holiday!! I only saw your '94.. no others. I got home last night, I had to go ride in the mountains again on the way home. Sorry we didn't hook up...another time. Steve: Good meeting you at the track, flat and all. My riding partner had a tire repair plug kit and a little 12 volt compressor. We plugged it , blew it up and rode it till it was bald! I had to buy a new tire on the way home in Wytheville, VA. I am definitely going to schedule 2 weeks in October next year but I think I will probably spend both weeks in the mountains riding and give Daytona a miss. It was fun but it did not do anything for my testosterone like the twisties in the mountains. Greg had his 93 GTS on the same dyno at Mid Ohio and the paperwork from the test that he showed me had his bike at 102 HP. It should be noted that his motor was hurt by the guy on the dyno. I am using 36L side bags. I seriously considered the bigger side bags but it made my bike look like my sister-in-law from the back!!! I am very pleased with the Givi set-up. I had mine installed by 2 Givi factory guys and it took them 3 hours. They said the GTS is a B*@#% to install but they did a fine job and the fit and quality are there. Yes I know about the Krausers, but I already have a Maxia topcase my sister in law just gave me another one that belonged to my brother, so that's what it'll be if you don't advise otherwise. later, Roberto Roberto, I don't have the Maxia's but I do have a 460 as my top case--these are, according to GIVI's specs, about an inch wider than the Maxia. The Maxia's achieve the additional space from the more square shape. The Maxia is only about 1/2 inch wider than the 360's I currently use as side bags, so I say go for the Maxias! Their look is closer to the Krauser but better IMHO, (too bad about the looks of the wingrack...) FL Kev __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! RE: Wanted: GTS around Denver, CO; misc questions about ergos and hard
I know where there is a 93 in Ohio w/ 12,000 miles in decent shape for $6,000.00 Contact me off line for more info at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I have been seriously considering buying it to put in the garage next to my other 93 GTS but I think I'll take a pass on it. You could have it trucked to Denver for @ $500.00 or fly to Cleveland, buy it and ride it back to Denver. Current market value is @ $7K. Once you ride the GTS you will catch the GTS bug. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Anton Tropashko Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2000 3:08 PM To: Multiple recipients of list Subject:Wanted: GTS around Denver, CO; misc questions about ergos and hard Hello there. If anyone was thinking about selling a GTS and lives around Denver, Colorado please let me know (my phone is 650 2162108). I'll be in that area over the weekend (stuck with the tickets: will be driving around looking at the scenery like the rest of the Flintstones otherwise). The guy who originally intended to sell me his GTS has pulled the offer out and the only GTS sold in Nothern California that I know about is offered for $8k Another one in Ohio is also ~$8k. I'm looking for something preferably under $6.5k. Is this reasonable? Someone on the VFR list has suggested that he has bought one for around $5k and that's the fair market value if there is such a thing. Did anyone on this list lose their front tire often? (I have very little info about actual GTS usage so pardon my ignorance). What's the scoop with the GTS reliability? Are most of the parts still available from Yamaha? A lot of people has suggested for me to stop fooling around and buy an ST-1100 instead, but I'm 28 and, probably, will be miserable on ST. For those of you who have Givi saddlebags on your GTS, do they leak in heavy rain? Do Yamaha hardbags leak in heavy rain? What are the problems people usually have with Givi and Yamaha bags? Did anyone have any problems with Givi racks or with GTS frame after installing a Givi rack? I hever had a problem with my givi topbag on my VFR, but I'm worrying about sides if I'm ever to have them. Also, those of you around 5'9", how do you like the riding position on GTS? Did anyone on this list have accumulated around 100,000 miles or more on GTS? Thank you. Anton "getting-touring-oriented" Tropashko
RE: Oil and Bags
Givi requires a hidden hole in the fender that is not visible unless you lay on your back and look up. Also just read the posting about the guy that was selling his Krauser bags. I don't have any but I did not realize that you had to drill holes in the side covers. I won't like that. I would like to know of other brands that you could mount without drilling holes. Or is that possible? Ken Swartz

RE: Windshield question to the List
Try using Pledge spray wax (furniture polish) . My local glass professional uses only this and claims that the wax fills in the small scratches and brings the surface up to a clear finish. The only thing I'm not as happy with is it seems to get fine scratches fairly easily. You don't notice them until the sun hits just right though. I have a great setup for cleaning too. Carry a natural sponge and a cloth diaper (also may be used for "pucker factor" tight turn cleanup...) which is about as non-abrasive as one can get. They sell a polish that might work to remove the scratches. Cost was about $120 or so as I recall. RE: heli bars, numb fingers, and tire profile
I just took delivery of a new set last week. I have not installed them yet but in regard to quality of finish, very nice. Grant: Thanks for the information. I am pleased to say that my bike has been performing perfectly. No problems with the ABS or surging. There has been 30+ HU failures noted by those on the list. This is a very high failure rate when the amount of GTS's on the road is taken into account. There have been many many postings on this list about ABS failures. Joe Loss was kind enough, on behalf of all GTS owners, to put a letter together on this topic and send it to Yamaha for their opinion. Their initial response was that nothing would/could be done. But then just prior to Christmas Yamaha gave us all a present, they will "fix" and/or replace the unit, if it has failed at no cost to the owner. How do you know if your ABS is working? First, there are for more rear brake failures than front. The suggestion has been made that you test your ABS. Try locking up the rear brake when stopping. If you feel a pulsation on the rear brake pedal and you don't leave a continuos skid mark, you should be OK. The front can be tested in the same manner, but of course, it is a little riskier.
