I consider this good reasoning.
FWIW: I didn't intend to recommend one software or advise against
another. But rather refute statements that I believe are wrong in order
to help making a better decision. I assumed that was one of the things
the original message intended to provoke.

You seem to be all set, but if you're looking for suggestions as to what
features your software should have, I recommend ranking a static export
high on your list of things to look out for. Not only will it make
deployment much easier, but it will also make archiving the whole thing
very easy.

Because GNOME.Asia Summit didn't use OSEM for the last couple of years.

What software are you talking about?
Frab? I don't have the impression that it's neither unmaintained nor not

[guadec-list] GUADEC is educational leave (Bildungsurlaub)

2016-08-01 Thread Tobias Mueller
Hey everyone.

As posted to www.guadec.org, if you are employed in Germany you might
be interested in knowing that GUADEC is a recognised educational leave
event (Bildungsurlaub).  Essentially, that means that you can get
additional (paid) leave. Details vary a bit and currently it only
applies to employees working in Hamburg, Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz, or
Saarland.

If you are interested, let us know.

As for the CfP system:
Do we know from the VoCCC how much a frab would make their and our lives
easier? Or do they expect it even?

>From what I can see from all the other CCC events the integration of the
list of talks with the video page is reasonably good. So you can see the
video from the talk in the schedule and vice versa.
I've seen it working for events ranging from a handful of talks (FifFkon),
to a few dozen (mrmcd), up to a few hundred (FOSDEM, CCCongress).
My feeling is that frab is pretty much the standard nowadays.
The main feature I see is that it exports static HTML which is good
for security and archival purposes.
That alone makes me suggest to use Frab in the future for collecting
submissions and managing the schedule.

[guadec-list] GUADEC Archive on guadec.org

2016-02-16 Thread Tobias Mueller
Hi.

I'm wondering whether it makes sense to link to previous editions of
GUADEC.

Currently, the navigation on http://guadec.org does not offer going to
older Web pages.

I have the feeling that it might make sense to include links so that
potential sponsors can see that the conference exists for a significant
time and what the older editions looked like.

Is there anybody willing to help on the Web page and include an
"Archive" section in the navigation?

We will probably need more help regarding content on the Web page.
I'm thinking of descriptions of the venue, the city, the country,
travel and accommodation options, and so on.  Any help is appreciated.

Cool! Thanks.

I spotted a few issues, still.
It seems that the Wordpress entries were written with absolute links
or that Wordpress can't handle a move of it's domain.
I observe that links in the blog posts,
i.e. on the front page https://2013.guadec.org/index.html but also
on individual posts, i.e.
https://2013.guadec.org/2013/07/30/welcome-to-guadec-2013/index.html,
are broken, because they point to www.guadec.org.

Example are the links to https://www.guadec.org/schedule/#day2 or
https://www.guadec.org/venue/

Maybe it's easier to let the wordpress live for now so that we can fix it
and once everything is good we get a static copy.

Unfortunately, the 2013 site has a problem with the schedule (as did the 2014
one).
Because of the wordpress and the fixed domain, i.e. www.guadec.org as opposed
to
2014.guadec.org, links were placed to www.guadec.org which, of course, break
after some time. I could fix that for the 2014 site, but I cannot find the

[guadec-list] GUADEC 2014 website archive

2014-12-14 Thread Tobias Mueller
Hi folks.

Currently, we are running a Wordpress instance for the old GUADEC Web sites.
I think we'd be better off making static copies of the Web sites now, before
things break and we need to forensically analyse the wordpress database.

I went ahead and created a static backup here:
https://github.com/muelli/guadec-2014

Could you check whether it contains everything?

If it's complete, I'd be glad seeing this static copy
being served for 2014.guadec.org rather than the current Wordpress.

Any opinions?

I'm wondering whether I can still have a BoF or not. There seems to be a
lot of free room according to https://live.gnome.org/GUADEC/2012/BOFs

I'd like to have a small, max 2hrs, Keysigning Session. The announcement

While we are unfortunately not very good at using OpenPGP, we luckily
don't need to prepare much. So there is no need to send your key to
anyone or do anything else, really. We just meet up, exchange key
material and convince ourselves about our identities.

[guadec-list] Speaker Sponsorship - Book Hotel myself?

2008-06-30 Thread Tobias Mueller

Hi Folks,

I requested Speaker Sponsorship a while ago and haven't heard anything
yet. Baris told me on IRC that everything will be alright, and I've
asked him to send me kind of a confirmation email with details on how to
proceed. He didn't yet and didn't respond to my mails.

Based on the comments on IRC and the fact, that I didn't receive any
negative answer, I assume that I receive speaker sponsorship. I knew
that I had book the flight myself, but my question is, whether I have to
book the hotel myself too (and get the refund later on)?
Actually I silently assumed, that I don't have to care about the Hotel
if I receive sponsorship, especially because I had to estimate flight
costs and not hotel costs on applying for sponsorship.

If I have to book the Hotel myself and get the refund later on, is it
okay to take any reasonable hotel for the GUADEC time (i.e. not a 5-star
hotel and just from monday till sunday)? Are there any other rules to obey?

Cheers,
