Re: [Gvsig_english] performance issue with gvSIG desktop 1.12

2012-10-19 Thread Klaus Schaefer
Hello Francisco,

now that I recognize your quick and very professional work, let me ask a
related question

I recognize that the view window always gets refreshed, even when the action
does not change anything in the view, e.g. opening the attribute table and
even closing it. Specifically when having a lot of images in the background,
that always takes up a lot of time... Why are we doing this? (This is
behaviour in 1.11 as well).

I understand, of course, that when I change the view, size it or drag it,
this is necessary. But in relation to the mentioned actions I feel it is
totally unnecessary. Do you see a chance to optimize the screen refreshing
in 1.12 (and/or 2.0x)?

Thanks again for your quick response and action you have shown. I appreciate
it very much!!!

Klaus

Re: [Gvsig_english] performance issue with gvSIG desktop 1.12

2012-10-19 Thread Francisco José Peñarrubia
Hi Klaus.

Yes, I have seen this behaviour before. I agree, it is enoying, and it
should be fixed.
It would be good if you can open a ticket in redMine and write the worst
cases at least (for example, I hate when I open layer properties and
this cause a unnecesary refresh).

Maybe in 2.0 this doesn't happen, I don't know. But it would be good to
test right now, because making changes AFTER a final release is out, can
be done but it means more work to package.

Cheers.

Fran.

Re: [Gvsig_english] performance issue with gvSIG desktop 1.12

2012-10-16 Thread Klaus Schaefer
OK, let me add a few more findings after several tests:

1) gvSIG 1.12
I created a new project. I loaded all my 180 raster grafics into that
project. That lasted 1min only! I resized the view so that ALL images are
visible. I saved the project. I closed gvSIG. I started gvSIG and opened the
project. It took 18 (!!!) minutes until everything was loaded, showing the
behaviour I initially described in this thread (reloading every raster slice
each time over and over again until everthing was finally loaded).

2) gvSIG 1.11
I reduced my initial project to have the 180 raster grafics only. I resized
the view so that ALL images are visible. I saved the project as a new
project. I closed gvSIG. I started gvSIG and opened the project. It took 1
minute and 15 seconds (!!!) until everything was loaded!

I believe something is wrong with raster memory-management in version 1.12.
Maybe it's a small configuration issue only, but it has a huge performance
impact. I would love the developers to have a look into this. Currently I
continue with 1.11, as per my impression 1.12 is not really stable yet in
other areas as well (see separate report of mine about 1.12 issues I faced).

Best regards
klaus

2012-10-16 Thread Francisco José Peñarrubia
Hi Klaus.

This one is on my TO-DO list, but I will need some time

On the other hand, I can't find your report about more 1.12 issues. Please,
could you remind me this report?.

Thanks for your tests, and keep going!.

Fran.

Re: [Gvsig_english] performance issue with gvSIG desktop 1.12

2012-10-16 Thread Klaus Schaefer
Hello Francisco,

thank you very much for looking into this! The other issues were described
in the thread:

http://osgeo-org.1560.n6.nabble.com/severe-issues-with-gvSIG-desktop-1-12-td5007402.html

Even though I could not reproduce the main error, to me there is some
uncertainty of NavTable and gvSIG language configuration. I have to
apologise that I did not test much further as I have other tasks assigned as
well ...

and I was pretty quick running into these kind of issues.

Thanks a lot and best regards
Klaus
