Re: [h-cost] Eyelets with a buttonholer?
Wow, I've never heard of an eyelet plate before!!! I've found a video on in and it looks great! My sewing machine has a pre-programmed eyelet, but it's too small and weak. It seems only Pfaff and Husqvarna have these plates... does Janome have it, too??? I have a 6600P. It seems only Pfaff and Husqvarna have these plates... does Janome have it, too??? I have a 6600P. They were commonly available for older zig-zag machines. I've seen Elna eyelet plates (they're little clamp-on rectangles that cover the feed dogs), and I think for the older Singers. I would kill for the eyelet plate to match my Pfaff 332; it's really sophisticated. The great thing about an eyelet plate is you use an awl to stretch a hole in your fabric, push the hole over the plate, and the eyelet stitching is just there to hold the eyelet open, not to provide structure. It's incredibly sturdy. andy ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

[h-cost] Plaid taffeta:
Hi everyone! No this isn't a repeat of an old post, I am getting back to those of you who were interested in knowing more about the taffeta I was asking for information on about how to go abouts selling it on ebay. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you but I recently started the spring semester at school and have no had time to take pics of the fabric or anything until recently. I tried to send this email last week only there was an error in sending and did no go through so it had to wait til today. I have some pics to post of the fabric but I think trying to send all of them at once is what ultimately caused the error, since I have a dial up connection and probably was taking too long. Instead, I am going to submit the pictures for each fabric as individual posts. Again, this is really gorgeous stuff and it's ashame to have it just stored away without being used and feel certain someone made need it more urgently. I've never had the fortune of coming across plaid taffeta like this before which is why I stock piled it in the first place. The 60 inch width is perfect for costuming too and I had planned to make some pretty gowns for myself but since we started renovating where my sewing room is I haven't done any projects at all and do not foresee the end of the renovation anywhere near. Enjoy the pictures and if you are interested in any of it please email me back. I purchased it for $8 per yard originally over a year ago but am selling it for $6 so that I can just clear the space some, mostly so it won't go to waste. Take care:) -Justine J. ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
[h-cost] Pink Plaid taffeta:
Here is what the pink on pink plaid taffeta looks like, this I have two rather large cuts of, one is abotu 8 yards and the other is 21 1/5 yards total. They were measured but I never wrote down what each was so with the exception of the 21 1/5 that I know is the right measurement, I am estimating for the time being. ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
[h-cost] Dark gray/silver plaid taffeta:
This is very gorgeous fabric with a dark grayish/silver back ground and deep red plaid running through it. It was hard to try and capture the true colours of this fabric with my camera, although I came pretty close. It's hard to see it in the photographs but the fabric catches the light in a sort of mauve sheen which is absolutely breathtaking. ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
[h-cost] White/gold plaid taffeta:
This is the prettiest taffeta and the largest amount. I believe I currently have about 30 yards of this rolled on a tube in more than one cut, and I think I might keep some for myself but there is more than I will ever need. ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

As was mentioned, Wal-Mart's dollar table. Wal-Mart is presently going through the process of eliminating 90 - 95% of their fabric departments across the nation. The first to go is the dollar table. You might find the fabric moved to the $2.00 section. If you have a fabric department at your local Wal-Mart you might want to get together people to write or email them to try and make your Store continue to carry fabric. Apparently the Wal-Mart thinks that people don't sew anymore, of coarse the ones making the decision to remove fabric live on the east and west coast and have no clue about the Central and sewing. :P Management at the three WMs here has informed their employees that work in the fabric department to not mention anything about the phasing out of the fabric. Stepping off soapbox Perhaps you might look here http://www.fabricandart.com/HTML_files/Fabrics/fabric.html Have not dealt with them You might want to check out Taiwanese cotton fabrics as I think they are more likely to have the metallic thread running throgh the fabric. -Original Message- This isn't very historical, but I know somebody on this list knows where to find EVERYTHING - does anyone know a source for that very light-weight Indian cotton used for summer blouses, etc? Not much going on there It was never meant to be an active list in its own right, just a place where h-cost people could post photos of stuff to sell or trade from their own stashes, given that this list doesn't allow photos. Think of it as an auxiliary to h-cost. It's handy that way, for those of us who aren't interested in joining a more active garb/fabric-sales group. (I've noticed those mostly attract posts from people who make costume for the re-enactor market as a side business and routinely advertise their wares.) It did used to have more frequent postings, but the membership of h-cost has probably turned over somewhat since that time, and I'm guessing a lot of people now active on h-cost haven't known about it till now. Even so, 50 of us are still signed up as members of swapsell, so if something is posted, that's a sizable number of people who will see it. --Robin ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
