Re: [h-cost] Pennsic Get Together
That would be fun! Hmm..need to nail down a time.. I will be there from middle Saturday on. Monday may be the best for me. Tuesday, members of my camp are involved in a vigil. Not IN our camp, but I do want to be available if they need me, Wednesday is Midnight Madness, and Thursday is EK Court. Friday is iffy, as I am not sure yet if I am going home Friday or Saturday. Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday during the day appears to work. I do need to check the class schedule, though, both to double check the one time I am teaching, or the classes I want to take. Last year I didn't get to any classes, and sorely missed it. Dianne/Laurensa Silverlock ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
Re: [h-cost] What costume things did you learn in the 60s?
One Christmas, I got a big box of handmade clothes for my Barbie Doll. My mother, who was a professional seamstress, took all those Barbie clothes patterns and duplicated the same fabrics and colors. I loved that the old Barbie clothes had tiny snaps and itty-bitty zippers. They were made just like real clothes (this is before knits). I always felt that after the clothes were on the doll, with all the extra bulk at the waist, that she looked more normal. So many people got upset at her figure, but failed to take into consideration that she would be bulked up by the clothes. Once clingy knits became available, the ratio between hips-bust and waist became more obvious. -Original Message- From: h-costume-boun...@indra.com [mailto:h-costume-boun...@indra.com] On Behalf Of annbw...@aol.com Sent: Thursday, July 09, 2009 7:04 AM To: h-cost...@indra.com Subject: Re: [h-cost] What costume things did you learn in the 60s? Re: [h-cost] Costume College
I'm wearing 1750s gent's suit for the Gala 1880s ballgown for the Friday nite do. This is my 1st time at CoCo. Do people dress up during the day? I hadnt planned on it, because it's pretty crowded in classroom full of farthingales. --cin I'll be there, but I still don't know how I'm going to dress for Saturday night. (Not going to the Gala) but it won't be till after dinner. It's always just too warm and close for me to dress up during the day, and it's hard to sit in a class in a farthingale. :) I have the new Elizabethan to show off, though, so we'll see! Re: [h-cost] Costume College
It all depends on the people. Yes, there will be some people dressed during the day. Some don't attend classes, or just a few and just hang out to chat and take photos in the pretty garden area between the two buildings (main building and the Tower). Those who are in classes are asked not to wear anything large, so I've seen small bustles, but no major hoops. Most are wearing regular street clothes, or costumes that are easy to wear. You will want to wear layers, like a sweater or light jacket, because you never know if your classroom is one that will be hot, or really cold from the a/c and number of people in them. And Sunday Undies is a chance to show off your undergarments, and some will wear a light covering, like a kimono, over their period undies. There is some dressing up during the day, but as you thought, no farthingales or the like because of the limited space in classrooms. I attended a basic knitting class with Alice (of Alice in Wonderland fame) two years ago. Of course, wearing your undies to Sunday breakfast is one of the events. By the by, my spell checker suggests farthing ales for farthingales! -- Kathleen ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

My mom's friend made me some Barbie clothes, I'd forgotten that! They were wonderful. One was a green sheath dress that I loved. Unfortunately, my Barbies all went to the Goodwill when I was in high school. [h-cost] Costume College
I'll be there. With Maggie. I was thinking of setting up a meet. Anyone interested? The Red Carpet is open to anyone who wants their photo taken, bearing in mind that lots of folks might want to take you photo, if you go in. I am currently on the Costumers' Guild West BOD and I know there are no restrictions on who can use it. I plan, if that new corset can just HAPPEN, to wear my 1892 ball gown. I am all for another opportunity to show it off, but that corset's got to go. :) Regina in L.A. ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
