[h-cost] Sing-along-with-Mitch

2010-08-02 Thread penny1a
Generation Gap Tonight at the dinner table, Mom, my husband, and I were
talking about Mitch Miller's death and our memories of his TV show,
"Sing-along-with-Mitch." We were just a chattering. Our 27 y.o. son, Andy,
was dead silent. I asked Andy, "You have no idea who we are talking about."
He nodded his head. So here it is for the younger generation.

A L-OO-N-G time ago, people only had one TV with 3 stations (if they
were lucky) and the entire family sat down and TV watched together after
dinner. The time was 1961-1966 and a show came on called
"Sing-along-with-Mitch." Mitch was an big band leader and the songs were
Americana. The song words appeared on the screen with a bouncing ball. The
entire family sang the songs with the show. Think of early karaoke.

Video all from one show:

My costume notes: Costume designer for the show wwas by Sal Anthony. Mitch
Miller was very noted for his VanDyke beard.

Here is a video from Sing-along-with-Mitch that features 1960s versions of
1900s, 1910s, & 1920s costumes:

&feature=related The 1910s men's costumes in George Burns number are pretty
good.

Re: [h-cost] Gray Line Linen

2010-08-02 Thread cw15147-hcost01
I just had that exact experience. I need some fabric fast, and their website
doesn't have rush delivery as an option, so I called. I had a VERY frustrating
time just getting the person on the phone to take down my name and address.
Someone else called me back the next day, and that conversation went way
smoother.

[h-cost] Fashion Photography Competition

2010-08-02 Thread Carol Kocian

Hi all,

I just noticed this morning they re-enabled the comments for the
fashion photo contest. They were disabled for a few weeks, maybe
because of administrators on vacation. Also five more entries have
been added, again I assume they were in on time but not approved
until now.

Please have a look and leave your comments!

Re: [h-cost] h-costume Digest, Vol 9, Issue 225

2010-08-02 Thread Deanna McLaughlin
I didn't understand why a green horse would win a prize --
but then it clicked. The horse is green because it's the princess
and the frog. There's eyes on the horse's headgear.

Your knight costume looked much too professional to win, apparently.
Great job!

the only costume sewing I've done this year is for my daughter's 4H costume.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/21642...@n06/4833605329/

She fit the costume and made the armor and accessories and cut out all the
silver fabric applique. I had to iron it on because she melted the first
one, and I sewed the seams just to save needles and/or a trip to the repair
shop. (she's a rather careless seamstress)

Sadly (for us), the girl behind her won the class
