[h-cost] Good News

2005-07-26 Thread Stephen Bergdahl
I have to brag!

It seem that I won this weeks $100 Shopping Spree at Fabric.Com. Still
in shock and now I have to figure out what to spend it on. I've got a
dozen ideas all screaming at me. Do I remake, "The Baby Blue Cavalier"
(Remember the first one Regina?) or make some new Renn Faire clothes in
real silk and cotton velvet. Or they have some real red silk for a drop
dead Byzantine and use up all those pearls that my bead freak Mother
keeps giving me, not that I'm complaining. There is the Celery and
Violet Bengaline that would make a great 1770's suit embrodierd in
Ribbons ala Bjarne. And let's not even look at the wools, I need a new
1840's great coat in a LOUD plaid. They have orange and pink velvet for
some thing Teddy might wear. AND AND AND

Yes I know Bjarne.

A polyester suit is a bad idea. Even if I was just going to wear it
indoors. But those colors are just so wonderful. I am leaning more
towards a new Elizabethain. In silk and cotton velvet, seeing I will be
selling at a number of faires next year I should have something spiffy
to wear.

Actually Bjarne I sell Enchanted Frogs and Period Toys. Here is our web
site I just got it up and running.

http://home.earthlink.net/~ribbit-tat/Start_Page.html

I wish you luck selling your embroiderys they are lovely and well worth
the price. Now for those of you interested I placed the order with
Fabric.com. I got for my prize:

5 Yards of Burn Orange Cotton Velvet
Yard of Dark Olive Cotton Velvet
Yard of Emerald Silk Dupion
3 Yards Sage Green Linen
Yard of Silk Dupion in a Check of Pink, Mint Green, and Yellow

The orange and the greens are going to be my new merchant costume for
selling at faires. Haven't decided if I am going to trim the Orange in
the silk or the velvet. Whichever doesn't become trim will be the hat.
The Sage Green is for the doublet lining. And the Check is for a new
1840's vest for Sutter's Fort. That should turn a few heads.

Hi Steven,
What are you selling at these faires? Is it your embroidery?
I have had succes to sell 4 embroideries lately for ladies purses, and
it is only for people i know on some embroidery lists. I plan to make
many more and take with me when i go to the gustavians, hopefully i
will be able to sell some to the ladies there.
Embroidery is what i do best, and i have as a matter of fact ben
thinking about giving up the costumes, and only make embroidery. But
then again it is rather drastic to say that i wont make any more
costumes, deep inside of me, i know that i will be making more :-)
There is a shop here in Denmark where they sell beautifull taffetas,
and in colours that are to die for. But unfortunately they are very
expensive, it is a shop that sells silks for all the people who goes
to party's with our queen, and therefore their collektion is huge, and
prices high.
Is there a place where we can see your light blue cavalier style? I
would love to see it.

[h-cost] Help with OT Costume

2008-09-11 Thread Stephen Bergdahl

Help!

I have been invited to a Halloween party, and I am trying to figure out
what to wear. I have 10 yards of BRIGHT green/yellow silk brocade with
a small Chinese letter on it, that I have been wanting to use for year,
but it is not period, unless you consisted the 1980's a period.

I love this stuff it flows, and where I am going is going to be very low
light, so the bright will work in my favor. The other trouble is I am a
tall ex-jock in shape. Wide shoulders and a waist to match, most of it
up front.

So I don't have any ideas, it does not have to be historical, but I
don't mind if it is. Help My brain hurts from trying to come up
with ideas.

Don't work, except at home. But I went out to a party that night. I
was very happy with my Halloween costume. Had most of the pieces but
for the robe, which is a table cloth from a Thrift shop. Sorry it's a
big photo, but the design is in the details. I went a Samhin, Celtic God
of Death, and yes, I know there was no such God in real life, but it was
FUN!

I also have to brag my wife made me a Fair Isle hat in black, gray and
orange for my Birthday. It's just great! Here are some photos, she
came up with the design herself. I am so proud it her and it.
