[h-cost] OT: Does anyone know of an Indian grocery in Palo Alto CA or thereabouts?

2009-02-01 Thread Lavolta Press
A relative used to buy my husband and me really great bags of bulk
spices, bulk tea, dohkla mixes, etc. at an Indian grocery near where he
lived (out of state). He has passed away and well, now we're wondering
if there is an Indian grocery in Palo Alto or between there and San
Francisco. My husband works in Palo Alto and could shop on the way home
(but given the length of his commute does not want to drive further
south). We don't know of an Indian grocery in San Francisco and anyway,
by the time you get there and park, shopping in the city is not really
very convenient.

Any info appreciated.

Don't know about Palo Alto or northwards. There's an Indian grocery in
Sunnyvale at Lawrence & El Camino (just north/west of Lawrence).

There is a place called Namaste Grocery (I think that's the name) in the
little strip mall on the corner of El Camino and Ralston Ave. in Belmont.
On Willow Road, in Menlo Park, there is a little place I think called
Polynesian Market, or Tropical Market. It has a lot of spices, at good
prices. It is just west of the highway, so is best to get to it by going
east on Willow and just before the overpass, go right.
And on Hillsdale Blvd. again just west of the highway, is another place
whose name completely escapes me, but it is on the right side as you are
traveling east, in the block before the overpass. It is technically a middle
eastern market, but has loads of interesting spices, etc.

Thanks for the data. Middle Eastern is always good too.
