I have both books.  They are very useful. And, yes, 19th Century 
Fashion in Detail do have beautiful, and often very close-up, 
photographs.  You will really enjoy them.

The Empire's New Clothes: A History of the Russian Fashion Industry,

Facing Beauty: Painted Women and Cosmetic Art (release date unclear)

War and Worship: Textiles from 3rd to 4th-Century AD Weapon Deposits in 
Denmark and Northern Germany

All of Fran's items are on my list as well, with the exception of The 
Empire's New Clothes and Facing Beauty.  There's a bunch more I'd like 
to have, but I won't bore you by transcribing my Wish List.  :-)
