I find the scale reasonable...if it is indeed 14/18".? You can still maintain detail with 'real patterns'; Small for me is 12" or below (which includes 'Barbie').? However I have see some doll house dolls (5/6" that have been wonderfully rendered.? These dolls usually involve some glue or clothing that is sewn on. There is a Smithsonian collection of character dolls of this sort that certainly capture the historical periods they represent (About 4") Now that is too small to do much but style/shape. The biggest problem even in the quarter scale is finding patterned fabric, lace and other trim that is consistent with the proportian of the doll and style.? 1/4 scale is SMALL, in my book. I've worked in approximately 1/3 scale, which gave me enough conniptions. I won't touch Barbie's size, so applaud anyone who is willing to. I think Eric the Red was modeled after a cartoon character (whose name escapes me), at the request of the buyer, so there you are. In person the Elizabeth isn't all that blond. But hey. The guy's an artist, not a historical costumer :) They're still worth seeing. Beautiful work. Umm, I did go and read the website. They are not THAT small, he does them one-quarter scale. So the average figure would be about 15-18 inches tall. (60"=5 feet, 72"=6 feet). I think Barbie is about 12 inches tall??? There certainly are some amazing things there, but not everything is perfect. For example, my dear husband about had an apoplexy at his "Eric the Red", and his coronation Elizabeth II looks really, really, REALLY blonde, which she doesn't in easily-Google-able color photos...
