Re: [Hampshire] [ADMIN] January Meeting
Hello everyone, Just a two-day reminder for the next meeting. Normal place (Southampton Uni, Building 59) but starting at 1pm this time. We have a good line-up this month; We will have a Raspberry PI to play with; I will be giving a demonstration on how to analyse high-speed interface signals with minimal equipment. Chris will be available to talk about the website, and John might be coaxed into demoing the network security game he posted about a few days ago. See you there! Well, Merry Christmas everyone! Hope everyone had a good time. Just a quick heads-up for the January meeting. It will be held on the 12th at our usual place. Southampton Uni, Building 59. We'll be trying a slightly different format this time. We will start at 1pm and end at 4pm. We're trying this because I've noticed that there is not a huge turnout until about 12 anyway. I will have a Raspberry PI (and screen this time) available for people to play with. I can also demonstrate how to analyse some of the signals output by the Pi; Especially those that are too fast for a normal volt-meter to capture. If anyone wants to give a talk, let me know. [Hampshire] [ADMIN] January Meeting
Hi, Seasonal greeting to everyone! For the new year meeting on 16th of January I have a special new year guest! I have been in contact contact with Daniel James: director of 64 Studio Ltd, a company that produces a 64–bit GNU/Linux distribution designed specifically for creative users, and does custom development work for OEMs with multimedia products. He worked on LinuxUser Developer magazine for around seven years, serving as editor from autumn 2005 until early 2007. Over the last few years, his media work has expanded to include a long–held interest in sound recording, with several music and voice–over projects completed at his own studio. He also contributes regular articles on music recording and related technology to Linux Format and Sound on Sound magazines. He will talk about his work with digital media on Linux and I already have a copy of his latest book Crafting Digital Media ready for review. I have quite a few Python books for review along with the first wave of O'Reilly book. If I get time to complete it properly I'll also give my desktop virtualisation talk I previously offered. If you would like to give a talk or have a talk request please let me or any committee member know. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the new year! -- Adam Trickett Chairman, Hampshire Linux Users Group http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -- Please post to: Hampshire@mailman.lug.org.uk Web Interface: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hampshire LUG URL: http://www.hantslug.org.uk --

Hi, This is your final reminder of this month's meeting. WHEN: 17 January 2009, 10:00am - 4:30pm WHERE: Southampton University Seminar Room 1 TALKS: 12:00 Digital Photography on Linux by Tony Whitmore 13:00 A look ahead to Ubuntu 9.04 by Alan Pope If you plan on attending, ideally you need to send your name to Damian Brasher before the meeting starts, otherwise you may find it hard to get in. If you want to use the campus wireless Internet you must send you MAC address that you will be using to Damian Brasher by 16:30 today - in which case you need a time machine... We need people to volunteer for the Meeting and Greeting table which is important: http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?GreetingPeople which is probably more important now that the new building is complete and has a nice security guard on the front door. There are lots of requested talks on the Wiki and quite a few offered talks but not many people have actually come forward with talks. I know it takes effort to do but I believe that a few talks at each meeting do add a lot to the meetings. If anyone is keen to give a talk please let me or any other committee member know. To the people who have given talks in the past, my thanks, I know it's cheeky but are any of your happy to repeat any of them? Look forward to seeing people tomorrow! http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?17January2009 -- Adam Trickett Chairman, Hampshire Linux Users Group http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -- Please post to: Hampshire@mailman.lug.org.uk Web Interface: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hampshire LUG URL: http://www.hantslug.org.uk --
